The recipe for success is as simple as Bidoof: Sleep Powder on the first turn, Substitute the second, Leech Seed the third. Repeat steps two and three when needed. Substitute plus Leech Seed makes for an annoying combination that draws out the game more than Wobbuffet versus Wobbuffet. But if you have Spikes or Stealth Rock support, or both, switching out from Leech Seed can be death for your opponent; the indirect damage adds up very quickly. Use U-turn to deal damage to things like Blissey, Celebi, other grassers, and Weavile, and switch out to a counter, or Encore to make Pokémon feel happy and repeat their last used move (commonly a set-up move like Substitute or Earthquake) to let you set up instead, or Aerial Ace for a reliable attack versus Grass Pokémon without switching out. If you're using an attack, you can also use this EV spread to deal slightly more damage to things: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe. Other OptionsWorry Seed makes Jumpluff's opponents like Suicune fret about whether they got a zero on their IV test, and thus not be able to Rest. Stun Spore is great for double status, since Jumpluff usually forces switches. It can Aromatherapy, barely scraping by as a poor man's cleric. It can Swords Dance, but with those puffballs for arms, Jumpluff is not going to hurt you much. Reflect adds team support, and Jumpluff gets to live a little longer. EVsAlthough Jumpluff is a defensive Pokémon, it defies the usual logic of maximizing HP before anything else, and instead distributes the EVs it doesn't put towards Speed into its defenses. This makes Leech Seed restore a greater percentage of Jumpluff's health and helps it maintain the Substitute cycle. OpinionJumpluff, when not mass-harvested for their potent and hallucinogenic puff balls, can be a very annoying support Pokémon with Leech Seed, Encore, Sleep Powder, and Substitute—despite poor HP and defenses. Sceptile is a much better Pokémon in general, being faster and having actual attack stats. Jumpluff has superior support moves, though, with Sleep Powder and Encore. CountersMagic Guard Clefable completely counters Jumpluff when its teammate is sleeping; Spikes, Stealth Rock, and Leech Seed don't damage it, and thus, Clefable switches in freely. Clefable then Ice Beams Jumpluff back to the Ice Age. A Pokémon with Rest and Sleep Talk can soak up the Sleep Powder and attack back. Alternatively, a phazer like Skarmory can come in and Roar or Whirlwind you away. Faster Pokémon can simply Substitute against you, blocking Leech Seed and Sleep Powder. Beware of Jumpluff's Encore, though. |
