Limited movepool, but Choice Band Explosion should take out something, provided you predict correctly. Crunch provides more reliable power than Night Slash, but the latter might grab you a critical hit. Pursuit is cool for KOing Psychics when they switch out. It works great if you have a lot of special attackers on your team, since they can run riot when Grumpig and Hypno are out of the way. Poison Jab is mostly for Fighting-types and is a OHKO on some of the weaker ones, like Hitmonlee. The final slot is for covering Steel-types, who wall Explosion and both STAB moves. Rock Smash is your best chance to "hurt" Probopass and Bastiodon, but only 2HKOs Aggron and Mawile if it drops their Defense on the switch. Fire Blast doesn't do much to the Rock/Steel-types, but it does 2HKO Mawile and OHKO Steel Wormadam. It is also Skuntank's only way to hurt Toxicroak, outside of Explosion. You can drop Fire Blast or Rock Smash if you want both Pursuit and Poison Jab, but bear in mind you will be helpless against Steel-types.
Screech to attempt to cause a switch, Pursuit when they run. Rock Smash is a better option than Hidden Power Fighting here, since it 2HKOs all the Rock/Steel-types after a Screech. If you don't care about covering Steel-types, you can go with Poison Jab to hit Fighters, or Toxic to spread some status around. Other OptionsNight Slash can replace Crunch if you fancy your chances of scoring a critical hit. Hidden Power Fighting 2HKOs Aggron, but is of little use against anything else. Taunt can be useful to prevent incoming Pokémon setting up, such as Aggron using Substitute or Thunder Wave. Memento is usually inferior to Explosion, but it might let a team mate set up more easily. EVs260 beats neutral natured base 80 Speed Pokémon. You can use Jolly and aim for 290 to out run the base 95 Speed group, assuming they don't have a boosting nature. Max Attack with the remaining in HP. OpinionWhile he does have a little more Attack and a lot more HP, Skuntank is entirely outclassed by his Dark/Poison counterpart, Drapion. This is mostly due to his barren movepool, which is what seems to let him down most. Aftermath is pretty cool for taking out Reversal/Flail Pokémon and Explosion should kill anything not resistant to it. Skuntank can be somewhat useful in UU competition, but it usually requires him to die in the process. CountersRock/Steel-types are reasonably safe, "fearing" only Choice Band Rock Smash which won't even 2HKO in most cases. Aggron's massive Defense makes him the best choice, although Probopass and Bastiodon can also fare well. Intimidate Mawile works pretty well if Skuntank doesn't have Fire Blast. Toxicroak can easily switch in on Crunch and Poison Jab and has Cross Chop to finish off Skuntank. Sandslash and Quagsire can survive three CB Crunches and KO with Earthquake. Quagsire also has the option of using Damp, making Skuntank unable to explode on him, although Water Absorb is the more common trait. Not content with outclassing Skuntank, Drapion also makes an excellent counter for him. |
