I see it I see it! I still check here occasionally but I'm trying to log in as little as possible because that usually results in way too much time wasted procrastinating reading totally random IS / a forum threads. how are you so free now anyway isn't it run-up-to-finals season?

anyway I willllllll reply more properly over the weekend - rofl @ the chemfail though! if nothing else, certainly makes me feel loads better about how much more well-read than I am the writers are asdf

Also I just noticed you haven't logged on since like 2 weeks ago.

So you might not even read this. But whatevs.

Psycho-pass was okay. Like everything, like I said before, was a very good repolishing of a lot of motifs and themes done a lot in media but it had some strong characters.

However the ending was a pretty downer. I felt that the death of Makishima came short of what I expected with respect to closure on his relationship with Akane, especially after killing her friend, and didn't really explore as to why Kougami was so goddamn obsessed with him (other than the whole "their destinies were interwined" and "he killed my friend" and on that subject, I thought his friendship with the enforcer would play a more prominent role than "oh he killed him, there's your motivation GO").

Finally, Sybiel's final conversation with Akane wasn't very strong nor did it bring any sort of closure. It was basically Akane trying to make some powerful statement saying that the system will grow obsolete in the future and someone will stop it and yet, she herself knows how much society and public order depends on the system, and will most likely live as a pawn for the rest of her days; it would have made a lot more sense if it came from someone like Kougami who lived beyond the bounds of society and law and doesn't compromise his ideals than her. I thought it was a pretty big cop out on the end of the writers who had run out of episodes.

Ironically, the final scene introduces the new inspector, coming around in a full circle from the beginning. Much like the two circles before them, with an inspector (1st Kougami, 2nd Ginoza) becoming Enforcers, the Sybiel system still reigned over the populace. I find it pretty fucking hilarious that the scene before that had Akane proclaiming that Sybiel will fall to someone, and yet, as the clock turns and as characters rise and fall, what is will probably remain the same.

Also oh my god they managed to mix up nmr, mass spec and IR (Rh shift in cm-1 with a spectrum that looks like mass spec?) in one chemical spectrum in this goddamn show. Making a mockery of CSI.

Also "chemical that converts proteins to plastics" my chemical mind just flipped from hearing that.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. watching this at 3 am is creepy. Esp that girl and her art. Eugh.

Also this anime is basically taking motifs from 1984 and the like done a lot before and doing them REALLY well. Not much originality but just a lot of polishing and twisting.
