imperfectluck sent me a PM asking me if it is feasible to calculate the percentage of teams that use the move Stealth Rock. While I haven't done this yet, I have done something else, that should help to answer this question.

Basically, I answered the question "considering the usages of Pokemon as well as the usages of moves, which moves are most likely to be included in a moveset?"

To be honest, I'm astonished as to the margin by which Earthquake is used much more than the other moves. I would have expected that EQ would be common, but not THIS common. :)

It would require doug calculating that as he gives us the stats, as the stats are now, X-act can't do that.
 
That's pretty awesome, confirms some stuff we already knew though, prevolance of BoltBeam and then HUGE amount of mons that use Earthquake. I'd be interested if it actually tells us something new, as it is all pretty obvious studd at the moment
 
Well you have to consider that Stealth Rock is only needed on one Pokemon per team, while Earthquake can be used on multiple Pokemon.
 
EQ usage should go down somewhat with Chomp gone, and pissbly due to Skymin/Rotom forms being immune to it.

Stealth Rock is used an awful lot, especially since you only need one per team. It's also interesting to note that SR has much higher usage than Rapd Spin (bigger learnbase and easier to use)

I dunno, Ground is still almost definitely the best attack type in the game. It's tied with fighting for most types hit super-effectively (5), and one of these types is Electric, which is ONLY hit super-effectively by Ground. It also has 1 immune type, as does fighting. But while fighting has 4 types that resist it, Ground only has 2. And neither of those types (Bug and Grass) are especially prevelant. Of the five OU bugs (Heracross, Scizor, Yanmega, Ninjask, and Forretress), 2 are immune due to their flying typing (making their bug typing irrelevant) and 2 have the Steel typing, neutralizing the resistance. Which means only really Heracross of the bugs Resists ground. As for grass, it's a similar situation; there are only 4 grass OU's (Roserade, Celebi, Breloom, and Skymin). One is immune already due to flying typing, one has a type that is also weak to it, leaving only 2 that resist it. 10 OU Pokemon are flying type, and thus immune, and an additional 5 have levitate (Bronzong (usually), Azelf, Cresselia, Gengar, and the Rotom Forms). So this means, of 52 OU Pokemon, only 18 have some sort of defense against Ground type. Additionally, 8 OU Pokemon are weak to it, and an additional 2 OU pokemon are double-weak to it. Earthquake is also the only 100% Accurate 100+ power attack in the game with no Drawback, and Earth Power is 100% accurate with 90 power and a potentially useful bonus.

Compare this to Fighting. ALSO resisted by Bug, also resisted by flying, which brings it to 9 with defense to it from the start (and the 2 flying/bug types are double resistors, which is almsot as good as being immune), but there are also 2 other resistant types, adding 9 more Pokemon who resist it. AND Ghosts are immune to it, adding 4 more. So 22 have defenses to it, compared to 18 with Ground (though almost 4 times as many are flat-out immune to ground). And it is only super effective against 7 OU Pokemon with 2 double-weaks. Additionally, it's most-used moves either have a fairly severe drawback (Superpower/Close Combat/Focus Punch), fairly bad accuracy (Focus Blast/Cross Chop), or fairly low Power (Brick Break, Low Kick against a lot of things, Mach Punch), with only Aura Sphere as a 100% accurate attack with 90 Power, though this is special and most Fighting types have significantly higher Attack than Special Attack (with the exception of Lucario).

So yeah, in short, expect Earthquake to stick around. It's easily the most reliable and consistantly powerful attacks in the game. If you don't believe me, just look at the UU ladder, which has none of the metagame changes mentioned, but still has EQ as the most used attack.

I would argue with "EQ is the best attack in the game".

According to my analysis, the best moves in the game (as in, would deal the largest amount of damage) are Fire Blast, Stone Edge and Ice Beam (I'm talking about Standard here).

EQ isn't bad, of course, but there are too many Pokemon that are immune to it.

This is why I'm a bit puzzled with Earthquake being used at least twice as much as these three moves.
 
Interesting, though a bit unsurprising EQ is the most popular move in everything except Ubers. Yet another great analysis, thanks!

9.11% is Explosion, which in my opinion indicates the fast offensive style of teams nowadays.
 
I'm actually surprised SR isn't used more. Assuming only one pokemon per team carries it, the move will be on 1/6 of all movesets if every team had stealth rock. That's 16,66(and so on)% if you didn't know, which is quite a lot more than ~10%.

By those numbers, about 3/5 teams have SR. More than half, though hardly "all".

if you are saying that stealth rock is less common in ubers than in standard, YOU ARE WRONG. looking at the statistics more pokemon use stealth rock in uber than in standard. it may not seem that way, but it is apparently true
