Gen 3 UU Battlefield: SuPsUp vs Mr Iggeh Warstory

So one night, I was on Netbattle, Bored as can be, and I was looking for a good battle. And none other than Mr Iggeh himself showed up! We fought a couple times, but usually I came out on top, due to whatever reasons. This Battle however, didn’t exactly go as planned as he had some dangerous pokemon I hadn’t thought to counter.

Team Iggeh:

Team Sup:

My comments will be in Bold.

As you can see, my team isn’t a super explosive team that tries to mash through the other team. This is one of my only teams, where i use spikes, strategy and Bulky Sweepers, to weaken my opponent enough to set up a Hitmonlee or MissyD Sweep. This battle was about trying to get the upperhand, slowly but safely. As well as having Pokemon give off a certain aura and making the opponent uneasy, and try to make them screw up with various mind games. And it goes something like this.

Rules:
Rule: Sleep Clause
Rule: Freeze Clause
Rule: Self-KO Clause
Rule: Apply PP Ups
Rule: Battle Timeout
Rule: Unrated

SuPsUp(UU) vs Mr Iggeh. Begin!
SuPsUp(UU) sent out Omastar (Lv.100 Omastar)!
Mr Iggeh sent out Rockman (Lv.100 Golem)!
vs

I start out with the upper hand, as golem is terrified of omastar. Omastar is a VERY dangerous sweeper, any other set is useless right....? Wrong! I use the Bulky Spiker with rest and toxic to whither down my opponents team, and make a sweep possible. I of course, set up spikes, as he will likely switch out.

Well, Ampharos is a very unpredictable Pokemon. I don’t know if its safe to send out Lanturn to wall it, because of the likely Focus Punch set. I decide the best course of action would be to go to Lanturn for now, if it substitutes I can go to Altaria, but I need to beware of HP ice...

Phew, apparently its either a rest talker, or thunderwave variant and has HP ice. Lanturn can wall this well :D. I can tell if its a rest talker, or Twaver depending on if it switches or not. If it stays in to paralyze, then it will also get paralyzed from my Twave, which i think is the best option. Most grounds would fear surf or ice beam, so I think Im safe from that.

So far so good! I paralyzed his spinner, well I think his spinner, he could bulk up and be really threatening if i make a mistake. So I figure, the best option is to go to omastar to set up spikes, and try to force a paralyzed hitmontop out. His stab is SE, but its physical, Omastars Def is near 400, it can take the weak Top hits.

Haha, JK, there was no quick claw or bright powder BS =p. That was a fun battle overall. This was not our closest battle, but the one with the most interesting Content in the middle.
End Battle! SuPsUp(UU) wins!
Score: 2 to 0

Well, there was a fun battle. It showed how a team with a theme, really helps out with basic strategy. It also shows the importance of every switch, and various mind games. Spikes made sandslash able to live long enough due to being able to KO Hitmontop before it was hurt so that it got a chance to Hurt Lunatone. Weakening Counters, and sweeping was the basic strategy of this game. Sandslash also forced him to sacrifice Hitmontop, his Mach puncher, who could have killed Lee.

SUPSUP PROPS:
· Omastar for getting spikes up.
· Lanturn for helping weaken a Lee Counter.
· MissyD for forcing two switches and saving the game.
· Sandslash for Killing 2 of Hitmonlees counters, and severely hurting the last one .
· Hitmonlee for being so hawt, and sweeping 4 pokemon.
IGGEH PROPS:
· Lunatone for setting up a game threatening sweep. As well as killing 2 of my pokemon. And putting my Pelipper Counter to Sleep.
· Pelipper for surprisingly hurting me and sweeping 2 more of my pokemon.
· Tentacruel for making good Calamari.
SLOPS:
· Letting me get 3 layers of spikes up from over prediction.
· Toxic missing.
· FlinchHax on Pelipper.
· Ampharos for letting Lee Set up.
· Altaria did nearly nothing. As well as Golem did nothing.

HOPE YOU LIKED IT!

And now, for the battle MVP....(drumroll)..

Sandslash @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 hp/ 160/ 96 Spd
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SAtk)
-Swords Dance
-Counter
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide

Even though Hitmonlee made more pokemon faint, it could only do so because of Sandslash. Sandslash Set up the SD on a CB slide, and took out Lees 2 counters, while bringing the last one into HP ghost KO range. GG. ( On my computer the sandslash's updated EV spread is 252 hp/72atk/148spd/36 Sdef)

Blech, I liked the first battle better :P

Hitmontop actually has no Mach Punch. And for slops Golem did nothing :(

I love what you did with the log and comments and stuff. Really nice warstory.

Thanks!

The reason i did this battle, is because i felt that the first one was too....Gimicky(Solrock having CM...Your nidoking:P...sleep powder missing), and we both misplayed a little more.....(The 'no' Endure among mistakes that i made as well...)

I made it kind of better before, but i spilled Coke on my laptop, so i couldnt continue from that computer...so i just made it again on my desktop...

More people read it please!

Edit: Ill add the Golem in for slops.

Even though I battle in DP, I learned a lot about competitive battling through this. Thanks for posting the log! It was a fun read! ^^

Iggeh, why didnt you switch out hitmontop and sack someone else to get rid of the other +1 atk on Sandslash? that would force a switch imo.

Either way, it was a great battle.

Well, then i could have just Swords danced on the switch again. Putting me at +3 vs whatever comes in.

One of the best logs I've seen in a while. It's not everyday you get people posting epic warstory's like this in Ever Grande City.

Long, but awesome log.

Thanks for the awesome Feedback!

Im putting that Sandslash set on peer edit, with slight changes so we'll see how that goes.

What I saw was that he could do:
Switch out hitmontop (Sandslash at +1)
Switch to peliper to take earthquake ( to either make you fear surf to switch out or to switch back to himontop for nulled attack)

What I saw was that he could do:
Switch out hitmontop (Sandslash at +1)
Switch to peliper to take earthquake ( to either make you fear surf to switch out or to switch back to himontop for nulled attack)
Him predicting my Earthquake, is just as likely as me predicting his Switch, so i dont think that applies too much here. And even more likely, as he switches to pelipper, i would just Swords Dance, because it doubles my damage, making no difference if i attack or Swords Dance, and when Hitmontop comes in, ill have +2, instead +1, making it a worse situation for him.

Edit: Umby, can you at least read it =o?

Anything applies in a battle. Even the smallest of details.

The thing is, it doesn't apply on paper.
I completely agree, but what im saying is; I would have likely predicted that as well as its a common course of action if someone stat ups to switch around with intimidate. If i saw his game, and Swords danced again, it would put him in a worse situation than he was in before. I could have even killed Lunatone with Sandslash.

Edit: bleh, i still have spelling errors and commas everywhere...im trying to find them and fix, but point them out if you see them :D.

Not bad.

I guess I'd also add Ampharos for slops for not really doing anything proactive ._. All it did was let Top get paralyzed and let Lee sweep the entire team, even though there wasn't much else it could do against Lee except attack (or use Cotton Spore!! O_o o_O).

Nonetheless, it was nice to see Pelipper get some use in UU and actually inflict some casualties. Cheers.

Very nice commentary. I am very familiar and fond of the R/S/E metagame. Also, Sandslash is made of R/B/Y pure Ground ownage.

Err.... I did put Ampharos in slops.

Err.... I did put Ampharos in slops.
Oh, didn't catch that >_> Well, you only applied the flop to Lee, not to Top too <_<

If you ask me, Ampharos deserves a flop just for being used, since it can't do too much besides being a decent Beller >_> I'm assuming that it either was either a resttalker (which serves almost no purpose since waters run away anyway and grasses don't care about ampharos' attacks) or didn't use thunderwave for some reason. But, seeing as this isn't an RMT, you can ignore that whole rant.

Anyways, my bad for not seeing Ampharos was already in the slops.

Im going to have to disagree again, on a couple counts. Even though this isnt an RMT, I like making arguements. So in Iggeh's defense.....

Firstly, Ampharos makes a great option for a Staller. It has one weakness, being a glaring one, but only one, an amazing HP stat, and above average defenses. It alternatively, makes a really good screener/supporter and can live through any unboosted unstabbed Earthquake in UU with propper evs. I love the build Reflect/Counter/Thunderbolt/Hidden Power[Ice/Grass].

Secondly, Hitmonlee has a very good ability called "Limber". This ability blocks ALL paralysis from occuring, so even if it was carrying thunder wave, he would not use it.

See, that's the problem. Most EQs are either boosted or STABed or both (Sandslash, Gligar, and a bunch of CBers all come to mind). I agree that it's good for setting up screens. I forgot about that option. But the fact stands that Elec is a shit type. Even with good stats, it helps to have some useful resistances (unless your name is Blissey).

Secondly, Hitmonlee has a very good ability called "Limber". This ability blocks ALL paralysis from occuring, so even if it was carrying thunder wave, he would not use it. Well obviously you wouldn't use T-wave on Lee, as I said there wasn't much Ampharos could do against Lee besides attack. Going by your suggestions in defense of Ampharos, it would be nice if he had/used Reflect. In either case, Ampharos should make himself at home in the slop pit.

I agree, but its not just because he used ampharos, its because ampharos did...well shit all, lol. But on a side note, electric resists Flying and Steel. As well as ampharos can Survive 2 unboosted EQs from Gligar.

Ampharos is a special wall.

Blech I just noticed not falling for your first Endure cost me the match. Well, at least it would've given me more of a chance...

Well then you would have Sandslash issues later in the match though, cause Misdreavus can wall/set up on pelipper w/o CM boosts, than you have Golem/tenta/amph and a paralyzed Top=Sandslash sweep :D.
