Gen 3 [RMT] One of my most successful teams =)

Been testing out this team on Shoddy and it works great even though it is a 3rd gen team. Of course, I dont win every time due to stealth rocks, toxic spikes, bullet punch...u get the point. Even being so disadvantage, this team that i am about to introduce you guys too definitely has the potential to beat many 4th gen teams. Please help me by pointing out my weak points and suggest on where i can possibly improve. thanks guys =) ok lets get started. BTW, this is my first RMT so ill try to make it as least boring as possible lol.

Gengar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 44 HP/110 Def/170 Spd/186 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Taunt
- Destiny Bond
- Ice Punch

I love this lead Gengar. He helped me out through so many situations before. Taunt is there to stop the infamous lead spiker skarmory. This doesnt really work well in 4th gen tho since theres a lot of stealth rocker like azelf =/. I used to run will-o-wisp on this guy but i find taunt more useful since ninjask is pretty popular in 3rd gen. Ice punch is there for the choice banded salamence starts, zapdos starts, and aerodactyl starts. Thunderbolt is useful for the infamous bolt beam combo. Destiny bond is really useful for taking down any unexpected pokemon that my opponent sends out to finish a weaken'd Gengar. I gave my Gengar enough Def EV and HP EV to MAYBE survive and choice banded salamence hidden power flying hit, which is the strongest starting hit ill be taking. I am not fast enough to out speed it so yea i need the Def...

Gyarados (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 86 HP/248 Atk/176 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Return

First let me start off by saying that the reason i have return on Gyarados instead of HP flying is because in my actual game, i am too lazy to breed HP flying. I know this pretty much gets owned by gengars but its not like im going to stay in anyways. The 86 HP EVs gives me maximum leftover recovery. The 176 speed EVs allows me to barely outspeed raikou after one dragon dance, which is probably the biggest threat in OU (except for jolteon but i couldnt out speed it even with 252 speed EVs and one dragon dance anyways if it was running on a +Speed nature). Taunt is for those annoying status people like blissey. After i land a taunt, i start dragon dancing and even after one dragon dance, Gyarados becomes a freaking beast. Its intimidate ability lets me switch in on a lot of physical attackers and get a free dragon dance while they switch out to a Gyarados counter. However, sometimes I just taunt instead of dragon dance cuz theres always the chance a jolteon will come out and own me and at least it wouldnt be able to sub/bpass and do all those annoying things that jolteons do.

Scizor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Swarm
EVs: 252 HP/48 Def/208 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Sword Dance
- Agility
- Baton Pass
- Silver Wind

Yay my baton passer. I love this guy as a baton passer. Personally, I think scizor is one of the best baton passers there is due to his relatively good typing (screw fire =/) and his sexy defense. He is one of the few baton passers that resists normal <3. Anyways, i havent met any none fire type that took this guy down in one hit. I switch him in on anyone who is not so good against a physical sweeper. When my opponent switch out, i agaility and by that time, it is usually too late for whoever comes in to stop me from getting a quick baton pass. Most of the time, the "scizor counters" that come in arnt really "scizor killers" but more defensive walls. This is good cuz then i can get in a free sword dance too and possible another sword dance before i have to pass. Silver wind is there for an attacking move against taunters and pseudo-hazers such as swampert and skarmory. I cant really do much to them so i might as well scratch them before i get roar'd/whirlwinded away. I use to have celebi here to pass sword dance but i realized that agility is a necesity to my two recievers (tyranitar and breloom).

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/188 SAtk/68 Spe
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, - Spe)

Tyraniboah! This guy is so unbelievably sexy. I usually switch this guy in on a blissey who is softboiling. Due to tyranitar's massive move pool and its many different versions, its hard to tell what kind of tyranitar i have. Most blisseys i vs'd stayed in and tried to thunderwave me, thinking it is a DDtar. However, their annoying thunderwaves will be met with a sub. Whatever switches in will meet a focus punch that will dent a lot of things that doesnt resist it. Depending on the switch, i can focus punch again or choose from thunderbolt and crunch since my sub is still up. This guy gets owned by swamperts tho =/ but thats alright cuz i have breloom to F those annoying things. This set is pretty standard so nothing much to say here. Trust me...this guy is a beast.

Regice @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Psych Up
- Thunderbolt
- Rest

My special wall and my ice person. I love psych up on this guy to catch sweepcunes who get cocky with around 3 calm minds and decides to stay in expecting a thunderbolt. Ice beam and thunderbolt for the infamous boltbeam combo and rest is there to keep this thing alive. I use to have sleep talk on this guy but i exchanged it for Psych Up since this guy can survive pretty long anyways. Nothing much more to say...

Breloom (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Effect Spores
EVs: 44 HP/252 Atk/212 Spd
Adament Nature (+Atk, - SAtk)
- Spore
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Leech Seed

The star of the team. Breloom has been and always will be my favorite pokemon. This guy is an absolute beast if i get an agility and sword dance from scizor. I used to have Blaziken here but my team just gets completely walled by swampert. Anyways, im sure every one of you has seen a Breloom before. Spore, sub, and, depending on who is in at the time, leech seed stall or focus punch rape. After a sword dance, Breloom OHKO a max Def and max HP skarmory (i get a lot of skarmory switch ins thinking they can take a focus punch and roar me away). This guy pretty much OHKO anyone who doesnt resist focus punch. 44 HP EVs give maximum leftover heal and the speed EVs allows me to outrun anyone in OU after agility. I cant imagine my team without this guy...

Hmm, what are some potential threats to your team?
The thing I see here is that I don't see scizor doing much for your team. You say the two main passes are breloom and t-tar, however, they both have focus punch as they're only physical attck. They can't sweep with a move like that! The other guy you can pass too, gyrados, already has a boosting move, so I think your team doesn't really need scizor, thus, you could replace him with something to counter some threats to your team.

hmm u know i never really realized that until u pointed it out...i just tried out a choice banded metagross and it works ok but i feel kinda incomplete without scizor lol...ionno i think i might need a special attacker or a physical wall instead of scizor. i cant really think of anyone tho that would work with this team

Also scizor rapes everything in this team bar gyarados. However you have an offensive gyarados, and after a few switch ins + SR and cumulative damage, gyarados will not be able to handle scizor either. So i would run this set.

There's no such things as Technican, Bullet Punch, Avalanche, or U-turn in ADV, guys.

Purposely ignoring crap such as Aipom, Volbeat, and other useless shit; I'd say Scizor is one of the worst users of Baton Pass in ADV. Unlike Ninjask it cannot boost its Speed without Agility, Celebi is unpredictable enough to pull it off while Jolteon and Zapdos have the ability to beat common phazers. Against teams with phazers you're never going to pass both Agility and Swords Dance. At least you're going to damage Suicune and Swampert after a Swords Dance but you're still coming short against Skarmory. I advice you squeeze in Magneton if you intend to keep your Scizor. In addition, Magneton will help you a lot against CBGross; a serious threat to your team. Scizor does shit and it's capable of 2HKOing Gyarados with Meteor Mash.. heck, with some basic prediction it will catch you on the switch with Rock Slide for a OHKO. Breloom can shut it down with Spore if it decides to stay in and take the Spore, but it will severely hurt its performance later.

I advice you to run some Special Attack on your Regice. Barring a critical hit there's no way Regice will beat a Suicune with Rest with your current EV spread. Due to Sandstorm you only need 124 EVs to 3HKO Suicune for sure with equally amount of boosts. You will struggle against variants carrying Roar, though, Gyarados can take advantage of the lack of Ice Beam and begin Dragon Dancing. Fyi a +1 Surf from the standard Bold Suicune in the analysis fails to 4HKO Gyarados.

I haven't really played ADV in a while now, so past the obvious I do not have much else to add. Another receiptant of an Agility could be pretty cool though. Assuming you decide to go with Magneton; without Skarmory a four-attack Metagross will be very effective. There's simply no reason to pass your boost to Breloom if your opponent got a, say, Celebi. You could also run SubDD- or CBTar to weaken Water types enough for Metagross to bring them down later. It's just an idea, but it's not like Blissey will wall anything on your team anyway and my suggestion of Magneton gets rid of Skarmory so the usefulness of Boah will be severely limited.

im not really scared of skarm or CB meta. my biggest problem i realized is a blaziken. he takes down 4 of my guys with easy if its a mix blaziken. my gyarados is probably the only guy that can counter it. What do u think i should switch scizor to?

ok wtf is with your post above?

Problems:
first off your team really can not do a thing to stop cb meta, i dont care if your not scared of it, it can switch in very easily against your team and you really only have 1 quality counter to stop it in gyarados. Scizor wont be able to stop it for long even with the very bulky defenses i see yours has. That non-Bulky gyarados wont be able to take hits for long either.

Your team also is very scared of ddmence, since after +1 the only things that can survive and actually pose a threat are regice/gyara, and its easy to time a ddmence sweep with gyara ~50% and regice sleeping, practically gg if that happens.

You wont see it all that often but subpunch/tbolt/ice punch gengar will wreck you alive if it gets a sub up, against say scizor or breloom, a rather easy task for gar to do vs those pokes.

I also dont like how skarm can abuse a bunch of your team. With 4 non flying/levitate pokes your team really dislikes spikes, and skarm can set up with ease vs your team. Dont say it cant by nailing each poke individually, if you play me i'll guarantee have 3 layers vs you with skarm in under 30 turns. Its easy vs scizor, loom when something else is sleeping, gyara once you learn i have drill peck etc.

Solutions:
I dont like the type coverage your team has, so im gunna try something different.

I dont think your team needs Scizor, the only poke that really likes the bpasses alot is gyara, which will still lose to zap/skarm, 2 very common pokes. So im going to say try replacing scizor with wish/reflect/psychic/thunder(bolt) jirachi. This will add support that your team is begging you to give. Gyara/rachi will work nicely together. This will also help vs pert being able to heal up your best pert counter in gyara, who will get worn down fast vs most perts in a normal game.

This isnt needed but giving gyara 234 or 236 (234 so +1 beats gar, 236 because +1 is over 352, a common line for pokes like raikou/starmie) to make it bulky and able to take more hits. Even a +def nature with alot of hp would not be a bad idea, try it before you just ignore this comment.

Taunt on gar in adv is kinda unecessary. Ninjask is very rare, and they're using ninjask, you probably dont have to worry too much. My personal favorite set on gar is double status, so i'll suggest that. Wisp/hyp/tbolt/ice punch is a very deadly extremely useful set if used correctly. Wisp+reflect together will wall most physicals on your opponents team, and with that regice you have, they will work together well.

Screw ingame gyara, just put hp fly on that gyara so you can hit celebi/venu, + be stronger then return. If you really want return, use double edge over taunt, but i dont really reccomend that personally, i like taunt on this team.

Personally i dont think ttar is a good fit on your team. Your team rather dislikes sand, especially since your 3 main offensive pokes (gyara/gar/loom) all dislike sand. Gyara/regice especially dislike sand and they really like their lefties, will be very useful to not have sand when you fight those swamperts. My suggestion would be to add either a flyer/levitator, or a spinner over him. Flygon quickly springs to mind, so i'll suggest that for now. After using a bunch of flygon sets, I like hp bug/eq/rock slide/fire blast the best by far. Just make sure to predict.

No problems with regice, consider sleep talk over psych up, its really just for raikou.

Loom is fine, i personally like mach punch > seed, but i have no problems with it.


I just spent way to much time analyzing this team, but i think i improved your team greatly.

Totally agree with Hey Oh, Scizor support does not help your team, and there are 36354925x better options for a steel tank. Yes, Jirachi is a great idea, with Wish and Reflect to support your offensive-oriented team. Skarmory could also work but then you have a big problem against powerfull rock attacks.
However things like DDTar or AgliGross can easly beat you after one set-up, Swampert can also work well in this team. Protect version go well with SandStorm.
Taunt in Gengar is not really useful. You should just attack the things that you will use taunt against. TBolt Skarmory (it will switch anyway) etc, really without set-up moves Taunt is not useful anyway. It can however be used againt Umbreons and HPBug/Silver Wind versions of Ninjask, but it is very situational. Will-o-Wisp is the move you should be used instead, given the problems you have with physical sweepers like Tyranitar, Metagross or Snorlax.
Regice usually has some SpA Evs and really a calm nature does not help him much. In any case SandStorm+no heal bell/aromatherapy means that he will fail very soon, especially to electric sweepers like Raikou/zapdos and hits from Sala/Gyara (unless you use a BulkyWater, preferably Swampert, to help with that). SleepTalk is recommended in your case over Psych Up, and another option is to use RestTalk Snorlax or even Wish version of Blissey that could help Gyara and Gengar.
Also, SubSeed is definitely more risky to use with SS, but the SS also means that your oponent will take more damage.
Definitely, Scizor+Breloom wont work. Skarmory will phaze you before you BP, and every BulkyWater will also be able to take a swords danced silver wind and phaze you. In addition, with no Sub, you will have the imminent danger of random fire moves in a lot of physical attackers. Weezing will also Haze you. Pokemon like Gyarados, Salamence and Gengar will sponge your SW and hit Breloom with super-effective moves.
Also say that defensive Evs wont usually help Gengar. You talked abaut taking a HPflying for Sala, when with more speed Evs you outspeed it. You can use 300/301/319/334/350. 298 is one of the most pity numbers for a speed stat as 598756843x Pokemon has 299, 300 or 301.
I recommend you to use the simulator Netbattle to play RSE.

Hey Oh and Crystal gave good advice already, but for the next time you go teambuilding I'd recommend to change some of your thought processes, for example:

1. You have Taunt on Gengar for "the infamous spiking Skarmory lead." First of all, Skarmory is not a good lead and would never stay in against Gengar because of the threat of Thunderbolt, the one move most Gengars carry.

2. You have defensive EVs on Gengar to "MAYBE" survive Salamence's attacks because you are slower. Why not put those EVs in Speed and Special Attack so you can go first against Salamences and OHKO them?

3. You're passing to Boah, a Pokemon that benefits from being slow so it can put its subs up and has no real way to abuse the Attack boosts since its only physical move is Focus Punch, which is very situational. If you're Baton Passing like that you want an all out attacker that can sweep teams with the boosts, there's none of that there. Agility passed Breloom could be dangerous but ultimately won't be enough.

You are also lacking some kind of phazer or hazer, but I can't find one that goes well with your team. Definitely Tyrano does not go well in you team because of the SS. Also Spikes can be a problem... You can for example use instead of Scizor and Boah, a Whising CM Jirachi and something like Hazing Weezing but you will still have the same problem with Spikes. Roar+Rapid Spin Donphan can go here, but it is usually better with Spikes support.
