I don't have a problem with explicit lyrics, I just find them a lot of the time idiotic. I have no problems with growls or harsh vocals, I just don't like Lamb of God. Sorry dude.

If you want to check out S.O.D., the Stormtroopers of Death, get Speak English or Die. Avoid their album after that.

system isn't really that explicit. I guess they might say the f-word a few too many times for the average person who just listens to fm radio all day, but I think the reason why most of the people in this thread who don't like System of a Down is because of general hatred of nu metal.

Have you guys heard cigaro and violent pornography by these guys now that shit is explicit if you ask me.
And dont apologize just cause you dont like a band :) haha
And I love meshuggah They are the only band I can hear for a long period of time with harsh vocals. And I was just giving my opinion, not trying to convince anyone to listen to either of the bands.
Will cheak out that album and let ya know how it goes...

That's not necessarily true. I like some nu metal bands but even then SoD fails to impress me.

Brave New World is actually my favourite Iron Maiden album =/
I will admit though that that's just me and the early stuff still is the best. Dance of Death does have one or two gems though (PASCHENDALE!!!)
And Hallowed Be Thy Name is an amazing song

Brave New World has some hidden gems on there. "Dream of Mirrors" and the opening song "The Wicker Man" are probably my favorites. There's a mix of a lot of average/boring long songs however. "Paschendale" is an amazing song by the way.

I'm going to point out right now that I think that most metalcore/deathcore/post-hardcore is the gayest music this side of rock and roll.

I've been listening mostly to Emperor, System of a Down, Hevein, Slayer, Marty Friedman, and Skindred (although their status as "metal is somewhat debatable) but am relatively open. Basically, very little -core and no doom. Doom metal really just doesn't interest me that much.

The Nomad is the best song on the album, just for the second solo.

Also, just listened to their new album, pretty cool imo. "Starblind" and "When The Wild Wind Blows" are my favourite songs right now.

Brave New World is just old Iron Maiden with worse talent and songwriting. There are no hidden gems, just lesser old Maiden songs.

I need more good Death Metal. As much as I love Adramelech, Behemoth, Bolt Thrower, Dismember, Immolation, and Rellik, they're wearing thin and I need more bands because, honestly, for a genre I love so much only having six bands is absolutely disgusting.

On a related note, I need more Black Metal that is closer to Dissection than Emperor.

hey guys, are there any good thrash, progressive, speed, folk bands out there?

don't try to refer me to the metal archives, i've been there, tried the random band thing, with little success.

^Thrash Metal. I don't care much for progressive metal. Speed Metal is always debated on if it is a genre. My assumption would just be heavy metal songs that are fast-paced.

Skyclad. Check out Prince of the Poverty Line.

I've given out thrash recs like three times in this thread and so have other people, so.

As far as Prog metal though I suggest Nevermore (who are fairly thrashy, especially on their first two albums).

Man you should not recommend an album like The System Has Failed even with a disclaimer if you want to be taken seriously...

Anyone who knows a lot about Therion? I downloaded their top three rym rated albums a while ago, and of those I found Theli > Vovin >> Lemuria - is the Secret of the Runes album more like Vovin or more like Lemuria?

EDIT: "Favre also will have $3.5 million in incentives added to his contract, based on postseason success, the Star Tribune reported, potentially boosting his 2010 salary to $20 million." unholy fucking christ

I've listened to it and it's mediocre at best. The only songs that stood out for me were The Talisman and Starblind and even then, they weren't that good. The many long/boring songs ruin the album imo
