art-of-tennis's art thread

Hey guys, I don't know how many of you remember me or not, but I've sorta had a dead thread for quite awhile. Instead of just necro'ing it again, I decided to make a new one. I thought that was fair, since I changed my name anyways. This is newest to oldest in order, btw.

This is a painting study I did on my new tablet pc. It took probably 30-40 hours. I painted it a LOT bigger than this, that's how it's so detailed.

I'm the guy in this photo btw. :D I kinda rushed me in this photo, and worked on the girl the most... funny thing is I don't even speak to this person anymore. >.> It was a birthday present at the time.

Bighorned sheep painting I did awhile back... this was my first furry animal painting...

Sorta my first digital painting.... as before I knew about hard brushes lol.

I made this pencil drawing for my dad's father's day present. This is a drawing of my dead grandfather.

I uhhh have a couple more on my other computer that I'll post soon, but want to see how these are accepted first, as my last art thread was ignored.

What's the time difference between the oldest pic and the newest pic? I would love to know how long it takes for art skills to become this phenomenal!

fuk, rey and ivy stole my words.

Only reason I don't believe it's a photo is because I noticed the part between nostrils and where the feathers start. It looks drawn, otherwise that could go for a photo. Excellent picture.

@Fatecrashers- I've been painting since January of this year.

If anyone in all seriousness DOESN'T believe that I painted the bird, here's a zoomed in screenshot of my workspace.

There you can see some brushstrokes.

Here's another painting that I did. It has more of a looser strokestyle.

Ever paint over the top of a photo?
No, I don't. I might sometimes put the photo over top of my painting layer and play with the layer opacity to see my mistakes, but I still don't trace them. I don't generally do that though, and if I do, it's when I'm just doing finishing touches. That portrait of me and that girl was the only one I did that at all with. (and it was mainly just to fix her teeth, because she sorta has a complex over them lol)

Btw, I'm doing some perspective work today.

Just a regular sailboat in a lock-type environment. Still a WIP. I never thought that that technical illustration class I took would be useful to me... I suppose I was wrong. Feel free to comment on it, I'm terrible with perspective, so I really would love some pointers.

Hmmm, in your sailboat picture the receding lines seem OK to me but there's definitely something wonky about the horizontal lines. I suppose you would've rushed over those and intend to fix them up later.

Lol yeah. I don't really intend to use those lines for anything, they were just to plan out some grass patterns. I didn't end up using them though, so I just painted over them. It might be awhile until I post it guys, because it's still a major wip, and I like my stuff to look finished. Thanks for the comment though, Fatecrashers.

I'm not entirely convinced these aren't just smudged / painted over photos but the drawing is nice.

Holy mother of god I love your studies, especially the eagle thing...
Thanks. I tend to do quite a few studies lol. I need to just start drawing people more though...

holy mother of catfish there are good
Thanks.

"Are those photographs?" basically sums up my thoughts here.

Now I really don't have any WIP shots farther than these, because I try my best to keep my photobucket relatively clean, but I'd like to think these will be enough to prove myself. Honestly, why the heck would I smudge pictures to make it look like I can draw well? I have better things to do in my life than try to fake myself to appear to be a good artist in some pokemon forum. The reason I have these WIPs btw, is because I go on #digitalmedia on DA. If you don't believe me, ask Hen. She goes there too sometimes.

Regardless, if you guys still don't believe me I really don't care. I know that I made them, so that's what matters to me.

Of course you have better things to do than to post fake pictures at this forum. Kevin Garrett rated this thread 5 stars so I don't think you should take his question seriously as an allegation. I don't see a need to be defensive here, all these "Are these photos?"-type questions are and should be taken as compliments as to what a top-quality artist you are. Some artists are abstract, others go for cartoonish caricatures, you've evidently mastered the style of realism.

I suppose I shouldn't be so defensive, the only reason I'm being as such though, is because I got quite a similar reaction when I posted the bird on ConceptArt for critique. Trust me though, I have still got a lot to learn. Anyone can copy a photo if they take enough time on it. :P

dude telling you "are these pictures" like me, Ivysaur, Exarius and KG said is a damn compliment. Its like saying "wow man your drawings are so good they can easily pass as pictures, excellent job!. Really, theres no reason to get so defensive when what we are doing is praising your job.

Don't get me wrong, I knew you guys weren't serious. It's people like stellar that say I smudged it that get me defensive. I do take it as a compliment, so don't think that I don't. I just would hate to have some people out there think I'm a fake. :nerd:

EDIT: Well I couldn't really tell KG was kidding at first, but when he rated my thread I knew he was.

Why do you not have an artist badge yet?

This is a fucking outrage, gentlemen. He deserves the thing for these pictures that can only be described as "Akin to the Van Gogh of the 21st Century."

Epic work, sir.
