A Clash between weathers (OU Warstory)

Preface

Sup guys. After making a cool sand team, I decided to climb up the ladder again. Then, I faced a sun team. When I see one of those, I usually get happy because it's always easy to win against them. However, this one was from a great player called Kinglypuff, who is peaked really high on the ladder. I never understood how someone can get so high using Ninetales, because I always fail when using it, but he seems to have done a great job with that team. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. Let's go!

Blue Star's team

Battle between Blue Star and Kinglypuff started!

Ok, he has a Ninetales, a Deoxys-S, a Hitmontop, a Volcarona, a Sawsbuck and a Venusaur. Against Tyranitar, Ninetales is completely hopeless, meaning that he will probably change his lead. After examining and taking a print of his team (like I always do before battles), I expected he would lead with Hitmontop. However, I might be wrong and he may start with Ninetales anyways. In my team, the pokémon who has better matchups against those is Rotom-W, since he can burn Hitmontop and Hydro Pump Ninetles, so I'll start with it.

Kinglypuff sent out Kapoera! (Hitmontop)
Blue Star sent out Rotom-W
The foe's Kapoera intimidates Rotom-W!
Rotom-W's Attack fell!

100%

Hehe, the plan worked. However, I think now he's going to send Ninetales, because he probably expects I'm going to use Will-O-Wisp. For this reason, I can send Tyranitar. My Tyranitar is a Choice Banded version, which almost no one uses nowadays but it's very useful because it can OHKO a lot of stuff with Pursuit, including Ninetales and Politoed. If I'm correct, he will send Ninetales, who will die to Pursuit.

Not good. He sends in Sawsbuck, who can kill Tyranitar with Horn Leech / Jump Kick. If he does that, I'll lose the Sandstorm effect, which I need. I will play safely now and send Skarmory, who takes 25% max from Jump Kick and takes useless damage from Horn Leech.

Start of turn 2
Kinglypuff called Haydaim back!
Kinglypuff sent out Feunard! (Ninetales)

The foe's Feunard is floating on a balloon!
The foe's Feunard's Drought intensified the sun's rays!
Blue Star called Tyranitar back!
Blue Star sent out Skarmory!

100%
100% + Air Balloon

Oh god. Now I completely lost the momentum. Ok, he has 3 possibilities here: A) use a Fire attack to kill off Skarmory; B) use Will-O-Wisp to burn a Tyranitar switch-in; or C) use Energy Ball to hit the Tyranitar / Rotom-W switch-in Super Effectively. After thinking, I decided that Chansey takes minimal damge from A) / C) and doesn't care about burning, so she is the best switch-in for now.

Start of turn 3
Blue Star called Skarmory back!
Blue Star sent out Chansey!

The foe's Feunard used Will-O-Wisp!
Chansey was burned!

The sunlight is strong!
Chansey is hurt by its burn!

87% (Burned)
100% + Air Balloon

Will-O-Wisp, eh. Ok, so I'm going to cripple Ninetales (or the switch-in) with Thunder Wave, because Ninetales can't even scratch Chansey and nothing on his team has a safe switch-in for a Thunder Wave.

Start of turn 4
The foe's Feunard used Will-O-Wisp!
Chansey is already burnt.

Chansey used Thunder Wave!
The foe's Feunard is paralyzed! It may be unable to move!

The sunlight is strong!
Chansey is hurt by its burn!

75% (Burned)
100% + Air Balloon (Paralyzed)

I think now he expected a Tyranitar switch-in and, thus, tried to burn it. Ok, so I know that this Ninetales cannot touch me, so I'll just get Stealth Rocks on, even knowing that Hitmontop is going to come and just spin them.

Start of turn 5
Chansey used Stealth Rock!
Pointed stones float in the air around Kinglypuff's team!

Chansey is already burnt.

The sunlight is strong!
Chansey is hurt by its burn!

62% (Burned)
100% + Air Balloon (Paralyzed)

Still on the Will-O-Wisp spam? I see. Now that he got rocks on his field, he's probably going to send in Hitmontop, who has a better matchup with Chansey or he'll probably predict a Tyranitar switch-in again and just Will-O-Wisp again. I don't think he's going to attack, so I'll just send Xatu, who is immune to Will-O-Wisp and completely pisses Hitmontop off.

Start of turn 6
Blue Star called Chansey back!
Blue Star sent out Xatu!

The foe's Feunard used Will-O-Wisp!
The attack of the foe's Feunard missed!

The sunlight is strong!

100%
100% + Air Balloon (Paralyzed)

He didn't switch, but he tried to burn me again. He is forced to attack or switch now. I'll just U-turn now because if he stays in, he's going to use Flamethrower and I can send Tyranitar. If he switches, I can send something with a good matchup against the switch-in, so that's it.

Start of turn 7
Kinglypuff called Feunard back!
Kinglypuff sent out Deoxys-Vit! (Deoxys-S)

Deoxys-S eh. This is complicated. I'll send Tyranitar to set my sandstorm and, then, switch again due to the risk of Superpower.

So, as I said, he can still Superpower Tyranitar to its doom, so I'll switch now. Let me see. For my experience, Deoxys-S usually has Stealth Rock, Spikes, Magic Coat/Taunt and Superpower/Ice Beam. So I'll just send Skarmory, who doesn't take too much from Ice Beam and even less from Superpower.

Ugh, this freeze is certainly going to annoy me later when I try to wall Sawsbuck. But ok, let's move on. He has Ice Beam, so he probably don't have Superpower, so I'll just send Tyranitar, who takes minimal damage from Ice Beam and can Pursuit that speeder to death.

Blue Star: lol

Omg, it burned Xatu; that's not relevant, though. He sent a Volcarona, eh. I know what to do now. I'll send Garchomp now. Why? Because I can bluff a Stone Edge from 333 Speed and get a Substitute up. But the truth is that I'm actually slower than it because I run a set with a spread of 236 hp/236 def to set Substitutes easier against defensive foes and to survive Ice Shards from the likes of Mamoswine.

HELL YEAH. My foe was a smart player and didn't want to risk losing his sweeper to a Stone Edge. Now, I have a Sand Veil Garchomp that is bulkier than Swampert behind a Sub. Hehe. The only thing it can do now is to use Close Combat, which does 22%-26% to this spread, meaning that I can still keep my Substitute on with some luck. Now, I'm going to use Swords Dance.

Good game and well played, Kinglypuff! I almost always have no trouble in beating sun teams, but yours was amazing! This was sure an epic battle!

PROs
~Garchomp for being a boss.
~Tyranitar's PROdiction at turn 29.
~Kinglypuff for using underrated pokémon (Hitmontop, Sawsbuck).
~The match for being epic.

CONs
~Garchomp's sweep being stopped by a crit.
~Rotom-W dying without doing anything.
~Freeze on Skarmory

The battle appearing from the commentary to come down to some high damage rolls, a crit and freeze doesn't make it a good one imo. Your commentary was pretty lacking, very little explanation and a lot of hoping being done, which is a big turn-off.

It is clear that you put a lot of effort in however, you have nice formatting in general and the battle could've been worse in fairness, just you really emphasised all the things I see as bad with this warstory and didn't pull the hax back with a good commentary. If you had a better battle to go with I think you could do much better, so better luck next time.

I really enjoyed this warstory, Weather vs. weather isnt original but I do enjoy reading these types.
Like Benlisted said Commentary was lacking.
But your battle skills were quite fantastic if ask me, your prediction was also very keen.
P.s. Format looked great!

It was enjoyable, though my main critique would be for the author to watch his humility. LOOK AT ALL MY BRILLIANT PREDICTIONS!!!! THIS BATTLE WAS ONLY CLOSE BECAUSE OF HAX~~~~~!!!!! Doe not make for a good warstory. Give credit to your opponent where it's due.

If the opponent doesn't deserve any credit-- why are you warstorying it?

why does noone like this warstory...i find it pretty decent...
yeah the wow spam was kind annoying and a bit stupid, but generally i liked it and i enjoyed reading it...
well yeah the hax was meh, but which battle doesn't include a bit of hax...8/10

Great Warstory! Critical Shits I lol'ed at that :P I loved how Bulky that Garchomp was, might try it out one time!

this was pretty good i thought. not a stellar battle or a stellar commentary job but it was enjoyable nonetheless. 7/10 from me.

also i have a feeling the ninetales was choiced; am i stupid or right?

It was a good read, despite the average commentary. What bugged me though was him hitting minimum damage on Skarm on that second to last turn (1% more and he would have won). Also im not sure why he double edged which would have Koed Skarm leaving him free to Horn Leech Chansey to get his HP high enough (or just KO it with Jump Kick). Maybe the recoil would have been too much?

Also not to sound overly critical but you did have a rather large advantage over him with your own weather changer and Skarm + Chansey walling most of his team.

Florizarre, Feunard... Your opponent is French or Canadian, right? (And I use English nicknames for my Pokémon...)

Well, here is the lesson of the day: victories due to hax (especially high damage roll and CHs) don't look well in warstories. Instead of praying that this move or that move will KO thanks to damage roll (I've seen it a few times here), you can pick that move and then comment its effects: if what you expected hasn't happened, just get a backup plan; also, your comments reflected this tactic. However, great formatting.

Format: 8/10
Battle: 3/10
Commentary: 4/10
Overall: 4/10

@ginganinja: Indeed, his Sawsbuck should have Swords Danced again and then used Jump Kick against Skarmory on turn 35. I'm pretty sure he didn't want to gamble on Skarmory thawing (and then using Brave Bird, therefore winning faster).

Extra points for a Hitmontop being used: those guys are seriously one of the best counters to Excadrill. :D

6/10. Could've 7, but freezehax(and no, my username does not encourage it :|). It was the point of the entire story though...

Kinglypuff is an awesome player. I lost pretty badly to him with my "full sandstorm" team. Learned the hard way that Sawsbuck should not be underestimated.

Loved the warstory, got some cool ideas from it. 9/10.

yeah, Kinglypuff really is great. won some, lost some, but his sun team really is fantastic. That guy's Sawsbuck is absolutely lethal. It had a LOT of hax, but still, was quite a good battle

My guess is that he actually had Nature Power so either Double Edging (and hoping recoil would not kill him) or going to Horn Leach (hoping to avoid a low damage roll) was his best option

You do an awful lot of bitching for a guy that's using garchomp in sand.

Also...yeah, garchomp in sand. I wanted to stop reading the second I saw that.
