My thoughts: With Smeargle, Kabutops, and Sandslash all having enormous rises, NU is in great danger of being a tier where the only spinners are Stealth Rock Weak, NFE, or Spinda (people who want to play it better pray at least one of the Hitmon's falls when it's created). A lot of the big risers make sense, especially Ferroseed, Munchlax, and Magneton. However, LOL Ampharos and Flareon.

Moving on, the biggest drops were:

Code:
[B]Snover       -44      (47 -> 91)
Gorebyss     -41      (31 -> 72)
Umbreon      -39      (21 -> 60)
Electivire   -29      (15 -> 44)[/B]
Mandibuzz    -29      (36 -> 65)
Lanturn      -23      (55 -> 78)
Tangela      -21      (43 -> 64)
[B]Quagsire     -20      (25 -> 45)[/B]
Feraligatr   -19      (50 -> 69)
Drapion      -17      (30 -> 47)
Weezing      -17      (44 -> 61)
Scyther      -16      (40 -> 56)
Swellow      -16      (60 -> 76)
[B]Gligar       -15      (20 -> 35)[/B]
Poliwrath    -15      (38 -> 53)
[B]Sharpedo     -14      (04 -> 18)[/B]
Eelektross   -14      (79 -> 93)
Druddigon    -13      (87 -> 100)
Regice       -10      (80 -> 90)
My thoughts: The fun just keeps on coming for the eventual NU. Losing out on a good chunk of their potential spinners and now having to deal with two Smashpassers (even in NU Huntail is outclassed) and a perma-Hail equipped Stallrein. UMBREON IS NOW LESS USED THAN FLAREON; FLAREON IS THE MOST USED EEVEELUTION IN RU. Also, Mandibuzz's drop saddens me a little bit (I love that Vulture, even if staying alive and being annoying is all it's good at), but this may mean it now can be used in NU as well, so that's always a plus.

...also, the fact that Hitmonlee and Glaceon stayed exactly 54 and 99 respectively amuses me to no end.

Snover and Gorebyss needs to be higher, Heck Gorebyss should be UU.

Tangela will get a rise in Usage once Mega and Honchkorw are banned.

Sharpedo, Gligar, Quagsire did fall but should hopefully stay RU since they're all quite usable.

Hey what, Magmortar actually secretly climbed up into the top 40 ranks? Now I don't know whether to be happy or sad. I'm glad people are realizing how powerful he is, but he was something like my secret weapon. NOTHING switches safely into that 'mon, heh.

Anyone try Raticate? Guts and Facade should do damage. Combine that it has Crunch to deal with Cress.

I want to use Magmar so bad since it is faster than Magmortar but ya.

Nah, I don't think you're really missing anything TBH. Shitty base 83 speed, and there's a lot of other Fire-types that do Choice items better (namely, Moltres, Entei, etc.) That means it's walled to no ends by all most bulky waters and all dedicated special walls (e.i. Munchlax) unless you run SubPunch.. in which case even PIKACHU does the job just as well... and that's saying something

SubPunch with Fire Blast and Thunderbolt: I don't see anything wrong with that. As long as it gets in unharmed on something that can't threaten it such as Ferroseed setting Spikes or Sceptile using Leaf Storm it can lure out Water, Normal or Rock type walls and either eliminate them or severely dent them. But I personally prefer Golurk as a SubPuncher because it is easier to switch in and it packs a huge punch, whereas Magmortar relies on super effective hits to do damage.

Yeah if I ever encounter a Fire-type Pokemon, its usually big boy Entei. Magmorat though, I've hardly ever encountered....and when I did it was usually teamed with an Electivire....so yeah self-explanatory..

From the stats thread, it looks like Aerodactyl, Charizard, Sawsbuck, Sigilyph, Spiritomb, Victreebel, and Xatu are coming down to RU for sure. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter. Personally, I'm wondering if Sigilyph's Stored/Cosmic Power Flame Orb set might work better down in RU. There aren't as many hard hitters, though a tier full of powerful bugs might not be the best place to sport such a gaping rock weakness. Xatu I believe I've seen discussed already. Magic Bounce seems like it's going to be fun.

It also appears we are due to bid farewell to at least Blastoise, Rhyperior, and Umbreon. The first two obviously will be missed, though I think it really does say something about the bug-dominance of this tier when something bug-weak which, as I said earlier, is used slightly less than Flareon in RU is moving up to UU. Kinda seems similar to how I felt when Wobbuffet went BL.

@Magmortar discussion: While I have personally never used Magmortar, I can kinda see some reasoning behind it. It has Thunderbolt like No Luck Involved said, which gives it something over other fire types, and in addition it has much higher Special Attack than Entei and is only half as stealth rock weak as Moltres. Besides it's not like it's really close to the usage of those other two. Entei is still about 4x more common than it and Moltres is still about 2x. It makes a good number three fire type though, especially since the only other ones in the top 100 are Flareon, Emboar, Rapidash, and Torkoal.

A Pokemon with a great base Speed of 130, Hone Claws, and STABs that are super-effective on the RU game's most prominent type? I can see Aerodactyl going places, though Cresselia can stop it with T-Wave.

Aww, Spiritomb is coming down to RU? Damn. At least we'll be able to use it, and with its' great 50/108/108 defenses, it'll be able to tank most hits. Its' support movepool is good too, with Pain Split, WOW, Hypnosis, and others. No weaknesses is also a plus too. :P

no weaknesses mean no resistances, too.

i would rather have a few weaknesses and a plethora or resitances than no weaknesses and no resistances on a defensive poke.

I'm a little lost about the tier rules, if a Pokemon has been OU or UU for 2 months straight, they move up right?

In that case it looks like Rhyperior, Blastoise, Venemoth and Sceptile are moving up.

RU and UU usage with modified stats for August
http://www.smogon.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3811274&postcount=23

June
| 16 | Rhyperior | 9216 | 9.8176 |
| 41 | Venomoth | 4064 | 4.3293 |
| 43 | Blastoise | 4016 | 4.2782 |
| 48 | Sceptile | 3458 | 3.6837 |

August
| 28 | Blastoise | 0 | 6.654% |
| 29 | Rhyperior | 0 | 6.561% |
| 46 | Venomoth | 0 | 3.730% |
| 48 | Sceptile | 0 | 3.469% |

I will miss Rhyperior and Blastoise, I won't miss Venemoth, I thought it was boarderlin Broken in the tier with Quiver dance Baton pass and Sleep powder combined with perfect coverage with Tinited Lens Bug Buzz and Psychic.

Sceptile was an "alright" pokemon, Didn't really see it as OU material, yeah it has Unburden but it's pretty fast already and it's not like people are using Speed Boost Yanmega and Sharpedo everywhere in UU but it edged out a UU spot.

Biggest surprise for me was the fall of Gorebyss, Why it's usage is so low Baffles me, with the correct set up, you can sweep a team that is unprepared for it.

June
UU = | 44 | Gorebyss | 3973 | 4.2324 |
RU = | 31 | Gorebyss | 2865 | 5.1570 |

August
UU = | 91 | Gorebyss | 0 | 1.622% |
RU = | 64 | Gorebyss | 0 | 2.960% |

It's not even RU, it's NU, poor Huntail can't shine in any tier now. I hope more people start using Gorebyss.

Other RU Pokemon that made UU cut off for the month of August
| 33 | Umbreon | 0 | 5.445% |
| 47 | Gallade | 0 | 3.565% |
| 49 | Uxie | 0 | 3.431% |

Magmortar is not about sweeping, it's about punching huge holes in your opponent's walls of choice. With a base speed of 83, you can forget about SPEED SPEED SPEED (seriously, speed is overrated imo) and just go Modest/Mild and wreck everyones shit with Fire Blast and Thunderbolt. I don't even find myself needing more than those two moves, except maybe HP Grass for the occasional Ground/Water type.

Admittedly, the most difficult part about using it is not its SR weakness, but getting it IN in the first place. It really doesn't have many switch-in opportunities, but teammates who sleep and encore opponents (which I use) can fix that. So like I said, as soon as Magmortar is in, the opponent has trouble finding a safe switch-in. It outspeeds the slow, defensive Pokes and has something to 2HKO every one of them, and sweepers can't switch into its powerful attacks at all, with Entei being the only exception I can think of right now. So give 'morty a fair chance before going "i saw it teamed up with electivire and figured hurp durp". It's slow, but really powerful.

no weaknesses mean no resistances, too.

i would rather have a few weaknesses and a plethora or resitances than no weaknesses and no resistances on a defensive poke.
3 nice immunities though... Normal, Fighting and Psychic. And don't underestimate Spiritomb, it was pretty potent in DPP UU.

My predictions about the incoming pokes:
Spiritomb: Goodbye Cofagrigus, we hardly knew ye.
Sawsbuck: I don't know, maybe a little bit of an impact
Xatu: With stall bring incredibly common, firing entry hazards back is just perfection for both sides.
Charizard: Probably giving offensive Moltres competition, so we'll be seeing them
Aerodactyl: Some will be leads, some will be offensive. defenitely making in impact regardless EDIT: Aerodactyl does NOT get Head Smash and BB. Read somehwere that it did. I guess I read wrong. Sorry guys :(
Sigilyph: Stall heavy tier + stall poke. 'Nuff said.
Victreebel: Outclassed by Sceptile and Leafeon without Sun being legal. Don't expect much from it.

Victreebel: Outclassed by Sceptile and Leafeon without Sun being legal. Don't expect much from it.
How does aero get head smash and brave bird?
