<p>With an impressive Special Attack stat, an even more impressive movepool, Levitate, and an incredible typing, Hydreigon is Pokemon that tends to force switches, and is therefore an excellent user of the move Substitute. Notable targets that will likely switch out of Hydreigon include: Rotom-W, Ferrothorn, Forretress, Skarmory, Haxorus, and others. Substitute allows Hydreigon to scout for switch-ins, easing prediction. Substitute also blocks status moves, and prevents the dragon from being revenge-killed easily. Hydreigon can then utilize its 383 Special Attack stat to hit the opposing team really hard. Dragon Pulse is decently strong, and it dents a lot of Pokemon, although it does paltry damage to targets such as Tyranitar, Blissey, and Steel-types. This is where Focus Blast comes in; it does a massive 75% minimum to 252 HP / 252 SpD Sassy Tyranitar, 2HKOes Specially Defensive Heatran, and has perfect coverage alongside Hydreigon's Dragon-type STAB move. Fire Blast is used as the last move in order to hit other Steel-type Pokemon such as Jirachi, Ferrothorn and Scizor, much harder than Focus Blast would; it also has the added bonus of hitting Virizion super effectively.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>The EV spread is pretty straight foward. It allows Hydreigon to have the highest damage output while still letting it reach 295 Speed, outspeeding Adamant Haxorus and neutral base 95s; the EV spread also lets Hydreigon Speed Tie with positive base 85 Speed Pokemon. Hydreigon's movepool is really extensive, so it does have other viable moves. Flamethrower can be used over Fire Blast for its perfect accuracy, but because Hydreigon is not running Life Orb or Choice Specs, the move is significantly weaker. Dark Pulse is Hydreigon's secondary STAB, and it's an acceptable option if you wish to hit Jellicent, Mew, and Reuniclus harder. Earth Power and Surf are other options that also have good coverage with Hydreigon's Dragon-type STAB, although they provide less coverage than Focus Blast does, so they're not recommended. If you feel that it is needed, a Timid nature can also be used. It grants Hydreigon the ability to outspeed positive base 90s, such as Jolly Lucario and Jolly Gliscor, as well as letting it outspeed neutral base 100s. However, the drop in power is noticeable. Lastly, a bulkier EV spread of 64 HP / 252 SpA / 192 Spe can be used if you want more bulk while retaining the ability to outspeed neutral base 90s.</p>

<p>Since this set causes a lot of switches, entry hazards are appreciated. Therefore, Forretress is a good teammate, as it resists Hydreigon's Bug-, Ice-, and Dragon-type weaknesses, and can set up any hazard the user wants. Conkeldurr, Breloom, and other physical heavy hitters are also good teammates, as they can fend off special walls such as Blissey and Gastrodon that are annoying for Hydreigon to face. Hydreigon can return the favor by hitting physical walls, such as Gliscor and Skarmory, for heavy damage.</p>

Yea, great set, Blue Star. I would mention that specially defensive Jirachi under Rain is also hard to take out without Earth Power. You can also probably mention under Counters & Teammates that Hydreigon appreciates Toxic Spikes support to have a chance at taking out Gastrodon and Jellicent (I doubt Toxic Spikes would help against Chansey / Blissey), or I guess Hydreigon can be paired up with Virizion / other Fighting-types to take those special walls out.

finally a new set for hydreigon
but why fire blast is considerd over dark pulse? if you will use dark pulse over it you will be walled by skarmory, sp.defensive jirachi and more steel types, and you can hit mew and jellicent with your STAB dragon pulse, while jellicent has scald and mew has [assuming its defensive] not much....so yea

outside of that, i really want to test it =D

I would just mention entry hazard support in general - something powerful like this behind a Sub is going to have the opponent scrambling for a solution in general! Repeated switches also have the possibility of weakening many Pokemon that would wall Hydreigon otherwise (a full set of Spikes will be crippling in this case).

Awesome set, but why not max Speed? I know the HP EVs help with Conkeldurrs Mach Punch, but after a Substitute, this sort of becomes irrelevant. Max Speed lets you outrun and OHKO the common Adamant Haxorus.

The HP EVs seem arbitrary. You lose out on Hydreigon Speed ties and checking Adamant Haxorus for what is being explained as 'more bulk'. What do they help him survive? And are these things significant enough to ignore the aforementioned disadvantages?

If you look in the choce specs AC (who has the same evs), it says that it helps him survive a mach punch from conk but it should proply be max speed because the mach punch is usluss with sub being used.

It'd make sense to want to avoid the KO from a +1 Mach Punch if you're trying to revenge Conkeldurr, but he still has a good enough chance to survive without those EVs (76.3% - 90.5%), and Dragon Pulse doesn't do enough damage to justify the cause (48.8% - 57.5%). Hydreigon really shouldn't be throwing away his Speed stat, odd as it is.

i think you should just have fire blast in the final slot, and then simply mention flamethrower as an option in AC if you prefer accuracy over power. fire blast's power is mucchhhh more important for this set imo, especially because you arent running life orb or anything.

lol i don't care about who uses what first, IFM used the surf variant so i started using the fire blast variant. it doesn't need max speed though, just give it enough speed to outspeed timid rotom-w, it sets up on it everytime and the extra speed isn't needed, the extra bulk also helps it survive under sub versus some other NVE attacks.

Timid Rotom-W outpaces Modest Hydreigon by 3 points, if you want to use Modest Rotom-W as the benchmark Modest Hydreigon needs 160 speed EVs to outrun it.
