RU CCAT 2 [Stage 5]

Rarelyused CCAT
hosted by ShakeItUp

Hello. I believe that this is probably about my 10th post in RU DST, so forgive me if I'm a noob and royally manage to screw this up. Anyway, we're going to be doing what all the cool people are doing and doing a Community-Create-A-Team (CCAT DUH). We will vote on various underrated sets until we create a team that will truly rock the metagame and SHAKE IT UP!

Rules [shamelessly stolen from Pocket ;) ]

Stage 1: We are going to start by picking which forgotten Pokemon (and set) we are going to be basing the team around. This does NOT mean the Pokemon has to be the late game sweeper, it means the team will be built around that Pokemon, whatever role it plays. This thread is for nominating Pokemon to be added to a poll (Pokemon that you think fit the description of a "forgotten" Pokemon). After a couple of days (probably around one-two days, until enough Pokemon are in the poll (around 10)), I will select which Pokemon are going to be in the poll that will be posted after we decide on a list of Pokemon. This means you have to convince me, and others, that your Pokemon is worth being put in the vote.

Note: A "Forgotten Wonder" is something is less used then the average RU Pokemon / set, but is still powerful enough to be used in the RU metagame. So no Caterpies, Magikarp, Beldum, etc. Thanks.

Stage 2: We select one Pokemon that works well around the selected one.

Stage 3: We select what style of team we want to make. This will likely include something along the lines of Offense, Balanced, Stall, and possibly more.

Stage 4: We select Pokemon that work well around our Pokemon and fit the team style and test it.

Note: Only the first Pokemon has to be an underrated threat; the rest can be anything that supports it.

Stage 5: We fine-tune the team based on our experiences in test-driving the team on the ladder!

So there you go. The time period of the nomination stage will vary a bit depending on how many Pokemon are nominated. So, get to work! Also, please explain your nominations [think of it this way: If I just posted RU CCAT and said, "EVERYONE, GO NOMINATE!" you would probably all have to go to the OU / Dream World CCAT pages and look stuff up, or just look at me like I'm crazy. Bottom line: explanations save face and time (and subsequently money as well)].

Original CCAT (hosted by zdrup15) (you should all try to be like them :] ) (DON'T USE THIS AS AN EXCUSE TO NOT EXPLAIN YOUR NOMINATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! see above if you don't understand the joke)

Team Checklist
-
Offense:

ShakeItUp showcases the power of Dual Screen offense brilliantly. He uses underrated threats such as Linoone and Swords Dance Drapion in order to make the team function even better than it would otherwise.

Texas showscases the power of Smeargle in tandem with OTR Cofagrigugs, a strategy that has become prevalent in the metagame. He also uses underrated threats such as Sawsbuck and Medicham, both being able to destroy the opposition quite easily.

Molk's Trick Room team is the prime example of how dominant a Trick Room team can be. Using extremely powerful Pokemon such as CB Aggron and CB Druddigon, the team can tear through the opposition quite easily. Slowking is key as well, being able to sponge hits, hit hard, and support with Trick Room.

Balanced

SilentVerse's Dancing Free

SilentVerse manages to create an extremely consistent and powerful balanced team, covering almost all of the metagame's threats. This team is a prime example of what underrated Pokemon can do, using a Pokemon seen as extremely worthless in Butterfree to great success.

Dittocrow showcases a truly balanced team, using walls that can take on almost the entire metagame. He tops things off with 2 sweepers that can tear up the metagame in Sceptile and GATR TIME.

Stall

Oglemi shows off the power of stall in the RU metagame, having walls that can take on almost all of the tier. Using sturdy defensive cores, as well as an underrated threat in CB Spiritomb, Oglemi shows that stall is a dominant strategy as well.

And now, LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They will end when the fat lady sings (I will inform you of who that is later...cliffhanger ;] )

Guess I'll start things off with the best Pokemon ever (GATR TIME is pretty close though)

Linoone @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Gluttony
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly nature
-Belly Drum
-ExtremeSpeed
-Shadow Claw
-Rock Smash

The bomb.com . Linoone can sweep teams quite easily, being able to reach a massive 947 Attack in turn and outspeed a large part of the metagame. All Ghost-types outside of Scarf Rotom or Scarf Haunter are massacred, and Entei can be killed with ExtremeSpeed before Linoone gets hit. Rock Smash destroys Steel-types such as aGGron and Probopass, and does decent damage to things such as Klinklang. This thing can set up pretty easily against walls, and can often sweep in the blink of an eye.

I'm going to suggest a formerly common Pokemon when it first appeared that quickly dropped out of sight, and is yet incredibly deadly with a bit of support. Fitting that most people "forget" he's even RU.

Aerodactyl @ Life Orb
Ability: Rock Head
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly nature
-Hone Claws
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake
-Double-Edge

Aerodactyl can be quite an effective sweeper when played properly thanks to Hone Claws, along with is powerful attacks, great coverage, and excellent Speed. Hone Claws boosts not only Aerodactyl's Attack, but also the accuracy of Stone Edge, which becomes both incredibly strong and incredibly reliable after a boost. After a Hone Claws, Earthquake can 2HKO Steelix after Stealth Rock, and can pummel most of the tier as well. With Claydol and Gligar gone from RU, Double-Edge becomes the best move in the fourth slot, hitting Pokemon such as Torterra harder than any other move, as well as being a very "safe" attacking option. Although it has little use in terms of coverage, it gets neutral coverage against most Pokemon in the tier. Life Orb is the item of choice to boost Aero's power, but Leftovers is also quite viable.

252 +1 Atk Life Orb Aerodactyl Stone Edge vs 252 HP/252 Def Tangrowth: 41.83% - 49.26%
3 hits to KO (with Leftovers)

252 +4 Atk Life Orb Aerodactyl Stone Edge vs 252 HP/252 Def Tangrowth: 83.91% - 98.76%
2 hits to KO (with Leftovers) [Double the above]

After Stealth Rocks you have a 70& chance of 2HKOing one of the best physical walls in the tier from max health. Add in some prior damage and the opponent is in for a world of hurt.

252 +1 Atk Life Orb Aerodactyl Double-Edge vs 252 HP/0 Def Hitmonchan: 87.83% - 103.29%

Always KO's Hitmonchan thinking they can spin your rocks after SR.

252 +1 Atk Life Orb Aerodactyl Aqua Tail vs 252 HP/0 Def Sandslash: 85.88% - 101.13%

Takes out Sandslash too, basically removing opposing spinners as threats. If its max/max Sandslash it takes 252 +1 Atk Life Orb Aerodactyl Aqua Tail vs 252 HP/252 Def Sandslash: 63.28% - 74.58%, meaning it can't have taken just about any prior damage without being in KO range after Rocks.

Golurk @ Choice Band
252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant
Iron Fist
- Earthquake
- Shadow Punch
- Stone Edge
- Hammer Arm

Golurk ohkos pretty much everything. It has great bulk too and can counter Hitmonchan which I hear a lot of people use. It has some good resistances too. Great pokemon.

Awesome wallbreaker. It can muscle through physical walls such as Cofagrigus, Uxie, and Mandibuzz. Shadow Punch, while having the lowest Base Power of any of the moves on this set, is boosted by both STAB and Iron Fist and strikes many walls super effectively; it cleanly 2HKOes Uxie and Dusknoir, two of RU's bulkiest Pokemon. Earthquake is Golurk's secondary STAB move that takes down Pokemon such as Steelix and Qwilfish, although you dont want to let Moltres and co. have too many free switch-ins. Fortunately Stone Edge remedies this, and Hammer Arm destroys Clefable, as well as being a secondary option to hit Rock- and Steel-types.

Gonna nominate a personal favorite, something considered broken in OU by some at the start of the generation, Whimsicott!

Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
-Substitute
-Leech Seed
-Encore
-Taunt

The bane of set-up sweepers, and the reason why every team should have a Grass-type/Magic Guard 'mon. Seen as the most obnoxious Pokemon ever at the start of Gen V, Whimsicott has fallen from it's former glory. I've always been a fan of SubSeeders, and Whimsicott is by far the best of them. I'd love to see a team built around the trolly ram cotton-ball thing (whatever you want to call it)

whos the fat lady. is it snorlax. nah, its etern-shot
Tangrowth (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Sleep Powder
- Leaf Storm
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Fire]
immune to leech seed and stuff. forces a switch, encores me into hp fire, taunts a move that wouldn't work on me since its behind a sub and sleep powder doesn't affect it! texas a bitch

Cofagrigus (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Mummy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Rest
Because fuck all the NP+TR Cofags.
No, seriously. It's fucking everywhere.

And due some force from the universe, I am forced to explain.
CM Cofag (that shortened name will never sound normal to me) will set up with insane ease and unlike Uxie, can actually be threatening with a Ghost STAB and base 95 Sp Atk. This is even better now due the things that usually stop this, Honchkrow and when weakened Sharpedo, being banned.
Taunt is a very big issue, but everything will always have a flaw. And Taunt is pretty much it for this guy, who can pull a last pokemon sweep at any time.

Sawsbuck (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sap Sipper
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Baton Pass
- Frustration
- Horn Leech

Offensive grass switch in, solid switch into rotom (immume/resists stabs), powerful attacker, amazing team player. Switches into leech seeds, sleep powders, etc and gets +1 attack, and you can scout the opponent's switch in with baton pass while giving a teammate +1 attack. It has enough speed and power to sweep endgame given proper support, or it can be a role player. An ideal mon to build a team around as it provides tons of openings for teammates and itself.

Absol @ Life Orb
Ability: Super Luck
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Superpower

With Honchkrow and Sharpedo out of the tier, RU lost two of its strongest Dark-type attackers, leaving Absol, Spiritomb, and Drapion to pretty much fill the void they left. Absol's ridiculous Attack and good Speed is extremely reminiscent of Honchkrow, letting it play almost exactly the same way as the SubRoost set, but with one major change: Swords Dance > Roost. With a Swords Dance under its belt, and a Substitute in place, Absol can outright OHKO every Pokemon in the tier bar maybe defensive Hariyama, other bulky Fighting-types, Tangrowth, and Quagsire.

Absol should also be able to see plenty of opportunities to set up a Substitute and work from there, especially on Pokemon that would normally go for the status rather than switch out in fear of Absol, such as Will-O-Wisp from Rotom, Spiritomb, and Cofag, or on the omnipresent Uxie.

Basically the perfect sweeper to base a team around.

Meganium (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 104 Def / 136 SDef / 16 Spd
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Dragon Tail
- Leech Seed
- GrassWhistle
- Giga Drain

really annoying to play against. meganium is truly phenomenal. it has the ability to incapacitate a pkmn and then force a large number of switches using dragon tail and leech seed. using them together may seem odd, but they have plenty of utility, and its great to have two options to hit your opponents counter on the switch with. dragon tail + grasswhistle means your opponents pokemon is all but screwed to never wake up unless they have a cleric. leech seed allows meganium to help against any last PKMN sweepers, which you can just phaze midgame. meganium has the ability to come in on stuff like omastar, tank the ice beam and be back @ high health. not only does it check most water-types, it can take on most rock pkmns and make lilligants and moltres think twice about switching in.

you should pair this boy with hazards, and hes good at preventing opportunities for spinners to come in. cryogonal will try to take advantage of meganium, and will look to spin against it. if you dragon tail cryogonal on the switch, provided sr is up, the next time its coming in, it will be at below 20%.

Regice @ Life Orb / Choice Specs
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 168 HP / 252 SAtk / 84 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ground] / Hidden Power [Grass]

Regice has a pretty cool offensive movepool and Special Attack, and also great bulk. It can often come in on several common Pokemon quite easily and get in an attack, which will hurt coming off a 100 base Special Attack stat. Ice Beam and Thunderbolt provide BoltBeam coverage, while Focus Blast hits Magneton and Hidden Power hits Lanturn, providing perfect coverage. The Speed EVs let Regice outspeed Clefable.

Crawdaunt @ Life Orb / Leftovers
Trait: Adaptability
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant / Jolly
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Superpower / Substitute

Ok, this is thing is the epitome of power, I can't think of a single wall that can actually wall thing thing, meaning the opponent will be forced to rely on outspeeding Crawdaunt. This set needs a decent amount of support to get going however such as paralysis support.

The moveset is fairly simple, Swords Dance is self explanatory, while Waterfall and Crunch are its STAB options. The last slot is preference really, Superpower hits Ferroseed for SE damage. Substitute prevents Crawdaunt from being statused. I guess you could also use Taunt to prevent Pokemon from statusing you in the first place too.

Double01

Hate it or love it the under dog's on top

Drapion (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sniper
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Taunt

Drapion is a beast in this new metagame. With all these ghosts running around Drapion can easily shut them down and set up on them. It can be played with a offensive or balanced team and its absorbing t spikes is always a plus on any team. Taunt can also help prevent mons from setting up hazards or boosts. Drapion is really boss. 'Nuff said.

Edit: Also to some OP are u allowed to put / on your movesets. Or do you have to have only one move and no /'s?

Sawsbuck @ Life Orb
Jolly / Sap Sipper
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Att / 252 Spe
- Swords Dance
- Frustration
- Horn Leach
- Nature Power

Sawsbuck is an incredibly underrated physical sweeper. Two immunities, brilliant coverage moves, quite impressive Speed and good Attack that can be doubled with Swords Dance. Its STAB moves are only resisted by Steel, and Nature Power is basically Earthquake (that doesnt trigger Sucker Punch).

move 2: Dragon Pulse
move 3: Fire Blast
move 4: Rest
item: Choice Specs
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Modest
EVs: 200 HP / 252 SpA / 56 Spe

Reason: Altaria is seen in RU as either a Offensive Dragon Dance set or a support set. However, the Special Attacking sets are not only good, but they have a great surprise factor, dispite being on-site. No one expects a Special Attacking set, so it drags out common checks to physical sets such as Tangrowth and Cofagrigus, which won't enjoy taking a Draco Meteor.

The two sets have very different roles, so it's up to the community which set to use. The first set utilizes Power Swap to allow constant use of Draco Meteor while giving the drawbacks to the opponent, which works even better since only dedicated special walls, such as Laturn, will continue to be dragged down by Power Swaps. It can also steal boosts away from Pokemon such as Lilligant after it uses Quiver Dance, making it a good stop to set up sweepers.

The second set plays different than the first set, using Choice Specs to abuse Draco Meteor, causing massive damage to just about any non Steel-type Pokemon. However, not even Steels are safe, as a predicted switch into a Fire Blast spells doom. Rest is a perfect move given Altaria's ability, Natural Cure, which allows Altaria to switch in and Rest on a predicted switch, recovering Altaria perfectly. All in all, Altaria is an underrated Pokemon, and these are two VERY underrated sets.

Here is my nomination:

@ Expert Belt

evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Rock Head

- Head Smash
- Heavy Slam
- Fire Punch
- Stealth Rock / Aqua Tail / EQ

For some strange reason noone uses Expert Belt Aggron and i couldn't help but wonder why? It catches a ton of opponents off guard, thinking you are choiced while you OHKO with your coverage move or your other STAB. Some examples include Ferroseed switching in on Head Smash and then getting killed by Fire Punch, same for Klinglang and Magneton, a bit weakened Rhydon, opposing Aggron, Sub Golurk and more.

The 2 first moves are givens. Head Smash is your spammable move, while Heavy Slam should be mainly used when predicting fighters switching in. The rest of the moves can be picked to much our taste, but i have found that Fire Punch is almost always mandatory. Stealth Rock is also a good option but gives away your cover immediately since no choiced Aggron carries it.

All in all a great mon, that gets many kills, tanks physical hits, sets up SR, and opens they way for other sweepers with its surprise factor!

Drifblim (M) @ Flying Gem
Trait: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 88 Def / 168 Spd
Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)
- Acrobatics
- Shadow Ball
- Destiny Bond
- Will-O-Wisp

Pretty beast set imo. Blocks Rapid Spin, cripples things with WoW, and can sweep with Acrobatics. Good team supporter/sweeper :p

Bouffalant @ Leftovers
Trait: Sap Sipper
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
Adamant nature
- Substitute
- Afro Charge
- Stone Edge / Megahorn
- Earthquake

AFROBULL. That is all.
Bouffalant finds it very easy to set up the Sub with stuff like Lilligant, Ferroseed and Tangrowth running around. Bouffalant is also pretty bulky, and hits really hard after the Sap Sipper +1 with STAB Head Charge. Sap Sipper also enables afrobull to switch into Spore and Sleep Powder. Sub eased prediction and block status, Stone Edge hits Rotom and Haunter, while EQ hits Normal resists. Megahorn can be used to hit Tangrowth though. The Speed EVs beat adamant Aggron. Bouffalant does have some flaws though, mainly low speed, making it a good poke to build around.

Wish I saw this earlier. Everyone else took good 'mons. But wait! I have something no one else has!

Scyther @ Lum Berry
Trait: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly nature
~ Swords Dance
~ Aerial Ace
~ Bug Bite
~ Brick Break

Boss NFE is boss. In all seriousness, Scyther has potential to wreck stuff. SD boosts its already great attack to even higher levels. It doesn't even care about priority baring Entei. It can take a mach punch from Hitmonchan thanks to its 4x resistance and hit back with an aerial ace, Kabutops either does pathetic damage with Aqua Jet or is outsped an OHKOed by a +2 brick break. CB Spiritomb is set-up fodder should it chooses sucker punch, and Shadow Sneak is a 3HKO, while Scyther can strike back with a 2HKO with bug bite.

Aerial Ace and Bug Bite are stabs, and provide good coverage. Brick Break lets us hit Steelix and Aggron hard. With hazard support, very few things can take it on. It outspeeds most everything non-scarfed thanks to 105 speed. The Lum Berry is so that it isn't shut down by WoW, Toxic, or Thunder wave. Isn't this reason enough to use it?

Bouffalant @ Leftovers
Trait: Sap Sipper
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
Adamant nature

- Afro Charge
- Stone Edge / Megahorn

I love him. So much. But if were gonna run sub, why wear us down further with head charge? Unless it grabs some Ko's or 2hkos I'd move for it to be return. and maybe with the sub set its more crucial to outspeed qwilfish, but I love abusing bouffalant's bulk far more than his little speed.

Here's my nomination.

Medicham (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Pure Power
EVs: 176 HP / 196 SDef / 136 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Bulk Up
- Hi Jump Kick
- Recover

This is a really cool set that I've been using lately. Bulk Up Medicham is completely unexpected, and can sweep most teams. It generally gets two to three kills a game when all the Ghosts are out of the way. It's similar to Bulk Up Gallade, but is different enough to be effective and not outclassed. Substitute lets you set up on a lot, as Lanturn's Scald will never break your Sub and Ferroseed can't break it after a Bulk Up either. The spread gives enough Speed to outspeed max Speed Omastar, with the HP EVs giving you a Leftovers number, and the rest is placed in Sp. Def so Lanturn can't break your Sub with Scald. This has a lot more power than Bulk Up Gallade, having a higher Attack stat as well as Hi Jump Kick. Recover is what really sets Medicham apart though, since it can heal up to attempt another sweep by forcing Clefable, Munchlax, Aggron, or many other things out. The set is obviously completely countered by Ghost-types, so a Pursuit user is required, while Toxic Spikes are also recommended to wear down Cofagrigus and Spiritomb.

Entei @ Choice Band
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Flare Blitz
- ExtremeSpeed
- Stone Edge

Inspired by the Entei pioneers who use Iron Head solely to deal slightly more damage to Regirock, SubCB is a truly revolutionary set. Thanks to Pressure, you can stall out Regirock's Stone Edge with Substitute, rendering it completely helpless, assuming Entei didn't take any previous damage (bring a spinner!) and Regirock is a mono-attacker with Stone Edge as its only move (pray!). Once Regirock is out of the way, use your Healing Wish supporter to bring Entei back to full HP so it can dominate. This set is very underrated and also easy to build a team around, since you'll need several Pokemon dedicated to supporting Entei, and several more dedicated to countering the stuff it would normally beat if you just gave it HP Grass.
