Arena
ASB Tournament Arena
Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokemon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokemon battling arena. In the center of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Pokeball center). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about fifteen feet wide and creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is eighty feet wide, one hundred feet long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it's an outdoor arena with a large water source and packed dirt. Pokemon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying Pokemon, who cannot leave the arena and cannot fly higher than sixty feet). This prevents Pokemon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokemon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

A couple of points and clarifications that will be of use going forward
- By virtue of Galladiator not providing a choice in the PM we are running with dogfish's choice of Switch=KO, and thank the good lord for it.
- Two substitutions means two total substitutions per mon, not two verses each opponent.
- In the event of a double KO the person who is ordering second for the upcoming round will be requited to send out the replacement first.
- df, your Defeatist description was outdated and is not entirely more hamstringing. I have updated accordingly in this thread. E: Trace was old too but this is not as bad for you..

That should cover it all I think, send me some PMs and we can get this started. Of course good luck to you both.

Turn Order
Both participants PM me their starting 3 Pokemon.

In a blinding flash 6 fully grown and fully prepared Pokemon have hit the field. I guess all that is left is to decide which trainer gets the dubious honour of ordering first. Heads and Galadiator is up while tails means dogfish44 needs to make the first move..

Triples. No doubt one of the most challenging formats in all of ASB and what is sure to be the turning point of many of these Team Tournament matches. This particular match gives Galladiator and dogfish the dubious honours of holding up the Triples end of the bargain for their repective teams. Alright, enough of the set up.. lets kick this one off.

As soon as Galladiator's chosen strongest hit the field a couple of their abilities come into immediate effect. Irwin his pet Feraligatr sets his Sheer Force to on while Sarah the Gardevoir decides now is a good time to Trace a bit of a Motor Drive from Short Fuse. Yep, I'd call a complete immunity to the opposing trainer's main STAB a solid plan. The entire of Galladiator's team then turns their attentions to who I'm sure they perceive as the weak link. Unfortunately for them Rawks has litterally milenia of experience to draw upon and Digs his way underground before anyone can lay a scratch on him. Apparently the good folks of the Jacks of Peril didn't consider this option and their focussed fire is a complete bust and they all miss horribly. Meanwhile dogfish's two electric types line up their most susceptible target and pepper Irwin with Thunderbolts. Finally Rawks emerges, no doubt laughing all the way into a critical hit on Irwin with his Dig attack. That just rubs salt into the wounds I bet.

It seems these Jacks may be not of Peril but more of failing to learn from their mistakes as action 2 is all but a carbon copy of the first. Rawks once again digs underground while all three opponents waste a bunch of energy epic failing. In the mean time a couple more electric assaults from Short Fuse and Nimbus see Irwin all the way off the field and secure the first KO for dogfish. It does seem that one trainer at least thought his actions through as Rawks knew that by the time he came out of the ground the second time Irwin would be long gone so instead he crashes into Roman for a little damage.

It looks like someone certainly took advantage of the whole ordering second thing, so lets see if dogfish can back up such good work by making sure not to leave himself quite as open to being made such a fool of.

As quick as Irwin was taken out (and it was pretty quick) he is replaced by Jean the floating ghost light thing. However a quick scan of her opponents leaves Jean feeling like she may end up of little use here. Rawks and Short Fuse take advantage of their unmatched speed by unleashing a barrage of Rock Slide against everyone on the enemy side of the field. Jeez its almost like dogfish came prepared for triples or something. Wouldn't you know it that all of the rocks find their mark, laying a particular hurt on Jean but also hitting Sarah so hard that she flinches and is of no use whatsoever. Nimbus decides a change in the weather is in order and the cloud dragon calls forth its favourite: rain. Roman was a big fan of that move and decides to clap the Cyclohm into an Encore. To round us out Jean is determined to show me up for my earlier comment in firing a rather accurate blue wisp of flame at Short Fuse that leaves the Electivire burned for the duration of this match up. Unfortunately that small residual damage proves to be the only scratch Galladiator lays this action and the HP gap between the two sides is becoming worryingly wider.

Both the Archeops and Electivire decide that since the move worked so well last time they might as well Rock Slide all over again. This time it isn't quite as accurate though and both Jean and Sarah only take one hit rather than the two they felt previously. Of course the fates have a hate on them and these single hits do cause both of them to flinch. Yep, that means that Sarah did both jack and shit this round. At least the burn made Short Fuse's rocks a little less powerful. Nimbus is stuck dancing around to no gain but at least Roman ends the round on a somewhat higher note for the Jacks of Peril by landing a rather forceful Thunderpunch on Rawks and finally doing some useful damage. Of course he does find both himself and his team depleted of almost half their life force. Woops.

Keen to press the teams already heavy advantage Rawks continues to pound on the poor helpless chandelier with a barrage of rocks. He changes it up somewhat this time with a Stone Edge that hits accurately and firmly. Before the fire type can be of any real use whatsoever Short Fuse makes the most of the weather to deliver a perfectly accurate Thunder to know Chandelure out of this battle. The crit there was totally unnecessary but also a good illustration of the fates of these two battlers. Sarah is wary of Rawks repeating his feat from last round and Disables his Rock Slides, too bad he already found another weapon to use. Nimbus rounds out the last of his forced dancing as Roman proves to be possibly the only of Galladiator’s Pokemon actually interested in damaging the opponents. Unfortunately he chose the healthy and physically defensive Nimbus when Rawks and his potentially crippling trait were ripe for the picking.

Sarah surprisingly finds herself able to act first on the second action but at least she chose the obvious target. She knocks Rawks around a bit with a Psychic attack but also seems a little worried as to why exactly she was allowed to act out of speed order. Free from the Encore Nimbus chimes in with a Heal Bell to rid Short Fuse of his burn. Roman then leaps into a somewhat impressive display of combat prowess but once again we are left wondering about why he would use such a move with other options about. Especially as it leaves him wide open defensively. Rawks and Short Fuse finish us off by making it clear why they were waiting until now to act. Both unleash super versions of some of their pet attacks and the combined might of the two powerhouse attacks are enough to see Roman from the field and all but sew this one up for dogfish. Let’s see if Galladiator can at least use his final two Pokemon to gain some mercy Kos and salvage some pride.

RAIN (2 rounds)

After that killer of a round for dogfish he now begins to feel the downside. Due to the hefty combinations they had to use to remove Roman from the battle both Rawk and Short Fuse need to rest to begin this round and open up by doing absolutely nothing. Sarah takes the opportunity to once again Trace Motor Drive from the Electivire to maintain her immunity to df’s main attacking options. One has to think smart moves like this may sort of be too little and too late. Gary is fresh on the field but clearly he has been watching the sheer destructive power of the ancient bird Pokemon as he conjured up a blue flame to Burn and severely weaken the Archeops for what is left of this fight. Nimbus then decides it is his turn to show off with a combination, and its actually quite a nifty one. The Twisting Gust he summons is able to harness his STAB and hit both opponents for nice damage for quite a small energy cost. I might have to remember that one.

In the latter part of the round Galadiator’s defensive maneuvers begin to pay off. Thanks to the burn most of the sting is gone from Rawk’s U-Turn and Sarah is completely immune to Short Fuse’s Thunder meaning she takes very little overall damage for the round. While Nimbus cools down Sarah and Gary pound on Rawks with some powerful attacks and he finally feels the weight of his crippling ability. It took far longer that it should have to activate that trait and it looks to have been Galadiator’s downfall.

RAIN (1 round)

Tired but far from counting himself out, Rawk launches one last attack to add to his already impressive list of feats from this match. The Quick Acrobatics may not do massive damage but it certainl adds to the growing bruises on Sarah. With her newfound Motor Driven speed the Gardevior is able to act next and all but takes Rawk out with a Psychic barrage. She feels the wrath right back when Short Fuse and Nimbus hit her with a Beam and a Pulse respectively. Gary then lines up Rawk once again and knocks the ancient bird out with a frankly unnecissarily strong attack. Nevertheless Galladaitor is finally able to secure his first KO of this extremely one sided match.

Sarah then turns her attention to Nimbus and launches a Shadow Ball that does some paltry damage to the dragon. Short Fuse shows off his coverage with another Signal Beam at Sarah and while the move is Super Effecitve, the damage is minimal. Surely fearing the end is near, Gary just allows himself to burst into a spontaneous Petal Dance, the first leg of which flails into Nimbus. The sky dragon now unleashes a combination very similar to his previous but this is most definitely the larger version. The Twisted Hurricane sends Sarah whirling back into her Pokeball and well out of this match while it also does some very high damage to Gary as it taps into one of his few weaknesses. At the end of the round the Rain also ceases, but dark clouds remain over Galladiator and his team (figuratively of course).

Poor Gary is left all alone and about the feel the brunt of everything. The newly arrived Teresa starts it off with a display of Acrobatics while Short Fuse plays a little energy conservation and goes with a slightly power powered Rock Tomb. Unforunately Nimbus misses out on the fun for now as he has to rest from the prior combo. He does take the whack from Gary's continued Petal Dance though.

Short Fuse now goes with a slightly more powerful Rock Slide while Nimbus shoots some Power Gems. Gary finally finishes his dance, this time hitting Short Fuse and leaving himself confused with as he calms down. This all matters for naught though as Teresa launches off some Super Acrobatics and secures this frankly crushing defeat for dogfish44!
