Sharpedo

[Overview]

- Cool Shark is cool
- Base 125 Attack means this isn't a walkover either
- Base 95 Speed may look mediore, but thanks to Speed Boost, it can now outspeed Pokemon it usually couldn't, such as the Lati twins and Thundurus
- Good Offensive Typing, only a few Pokemon resist the Water / Dark combo
- Coverage in moves such as EQ, Ice Fang, and Ice Beam
- However, 70 / 40 / 40 defenses means this is really frail, and even a strong resisted hit can OHKO it, which means this will most likely take up the Focus Sash on your team
- However, don't underestimate the Shark, its actually really good

[SET]
name: Jaws
move 1: Waterfall
move 2: Crunch
move 3: Ice Fang / Earthquake
move 4: Protect
item: Focus Sash / Life Orb
ability: Speed Boost
nature: Adamant
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- Speed Boost + good coverage = good Pokemon
- Waterfall is great in nailing Pokemon such as Volcarona, Terrakion, and Ninetails for SE damage
- Crunch retains good neutral coverage, hitting Pokemon such as the Lati twins, Cress, and Musharna hard as well
- Ice Fang ensures that Pokemon such as Hydregion and Virizion don't utterly wall Sharpedo, as well as hitting Pokemon such as Garchomp, Dragonite, and Salamence harder
- However, Earthquake can be used to hit Pokemon such as Metagross and Toxicroak, harder
- Protect ensures it can get at least 1 Speed Boost, as well as saving it from damage

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

- EVs are super easy to understand
- Adamant nature is used to capitilize that base 125 Attack stat, as well as Speed tying with Yanmega
- At+2 it outspeeds all of the common scarfers and and at +3 it outspeeds Tornadus under Tailwind.
- However, if one wants more Speed fast, as well as outspeeding Yanmega, a Jolly Nature is usable
- Focus Sash is great on such as frail Pokemon, making it take one hit before going down
- However, Life Orb can be used to gain even more power from Sharpedo's attacks
- Ammonguss makes the pefect partner, taking Electric, Grass, Fighting type attacks, using Spore to cripple a threatening Pokemon (usually something with priority) and having a Grass-type STAB that can take care of Water-type Pokemon
- Pokemon such as Latios, Zapdos, and Thundurus make great partners, as they have great defensive(lol, defensive synergy for a frail Pokemon) and offensive synergy between them.
- Poitoed can be used to give Waterfall a huge boost in power, though it racks up a Electric and Grass type weakness

- Dark Gem
- Water Gem

[Checks and Counters]

- Ferrothorn resists both STABs, and can either use Power Whip or Leech Seed to beat Sharpedo
- Hydregion and Virizion also resist both STABs, and both can use their powerful attacks to beat Sharpedo
- Toxicroak can switch into a Waterfall, resists Crunch, and use Drain Punch to OHKO it.
- Conkeldurr, TechiTop, and other Pokemon with priority can take care of Sharpedo with their priority attacks.
- Hell, even Scizor can beat it using Bullet Punch, thats how frail this is
- Pokemon with Intimidate, such as Gyarados, Hitmontop, and Salamence, weaken Sharpedo, can all can KO Sharpedo with powerful STAB attacks (yes, even a STAB Waterfall from Gyarados will 2HKO it)
- Sabelye's Priority Will-O-Wisps are very annoying, crippling the shark for the match
- Speaking of Priority, Thundurus's priority T-Waves also Cripple Sharpedo, though it can't switch in to any attack

Water Gem and Chople should me mentioned in OO. Water Gem improves Sharpedo's Waterfall for more KOs, while Chople protects it from popular fighting types.

Like anything with Priority threatens Sharpedo, more specifically things like Technitop(Intimitop has like a 10% chance) and Conkeldurr can OHKO with Mach Punch. Mention at +2 it outspeeds all of the common scarfers and and at +3 it outspeeds Tornadus under Tailwind. With Rain support Waterfall packs a huge punch. Sableye can be annoying to burn it as well. Good analysis!

edit: Chople truly means nothing for sharpedo taking fighting-type hits except mach punches

252 Atk Conkeldurr Drain Punch vs 4 HP/0 Def Chople Berry Sharpedo: 102.74% - 121.23%
100% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Terrakion Close Combat vs 4 HP/0 Def Chople Berry Sharpedo: 154.11% - 181.51%
100% chance to OHKO
Yea, using Chople is a waste, only thing it saves you from is Mach Punch from Conkelldurr and Scarfty's Drain Punch, but they can take a Waterfall and still KO you

Yea, defensive berries are a waste

Edit, already mentioned Priority Bio, will mention the other stuff though, thanks

Mixed EV spread?

Something like this can work:
236 Atk / 196 SpA / 76 Spe with a Lonely or Mild Nature

76 Spe EVs give 125 Speed to outrun Scarf Tyranitar after a Speed Boost, and will outrun Modest Ludicolo in the rain after 2.

The rest is added into Attack and Special Attack, mostly with focus on the attack. I haven't really done any damage calculations for this, so the balance between Attack and Special Attack EVs may be changed to get a specific KO on something.

No need for the bump, just figuring out the mixed EVs, guess i'll remove Zen Headbutt

i'd make sure to note that without earthquake you're basically walled by toxicroak on the physical set because of dry skin taking your waterfalls and crunch being not very effective

trick room should definitely be mentioned as a counter

Ok, I'll keep that in mind (C&C has Toxicroak, and SC has EQ hitting Toxi harder)

Added TR, guess I'm a dummy

Uhh the Mixed set, the only reason you have for it to go mixed is Crunch and EQ. It learns Dark pulse from the Dream World and EQ isn't really all much reason to separate EVs to invest in attack. Perhaps just make it a full special set imo

edit: oh right because of Hydro Pump being an Egg move. Well you can just mention Hydro Pump in AC of the special set and mention the mixed spread so you can use Crunch with it.

The rest of this analysis is spot on with everything else, good work!

A few things:

First of all, you should include some calcs in order to show Sharpedo's power. Second of all, Breloom destroys any LO Set with Mach Punch (those with Focus Sashes can take Mach Punch and KO with Ice Fang or Ice Beam). If you are in need of a different batch of coverage, Aerial Ace could be used, but its 60 base power may not cut it.
