RU Metang has to be the biggest joke in history. Well, at least we don't have to um and ah about whether it gets an NU analysis any more... until 3 months later when Molk gets bored of it.

Well, I'm going to sorely miss Magmortar and the excellent analysis that was written for it; it was my favorite way of dealing with the increasingly annoying Amoonguss and Tangela. On the bright side, it gives Emboar a lot more opportunity to shin as a mixed or special attacker now, and I think it's going to get a lot more usage because of it.

I don't really care about Cryogonal going because I never used it, but this is really going to hit stall teams hard. The only good spinners left are Armaldo and maybe Torkoal, and both of them get wrecked by the new entry Golurk, who can both set up Stealth Rock and block spinners... something tells me Golurk's going to be very popular, and that spinners are going to become obsolete within the metagame. Should be interesting.

Quagsire leaving was a little unexpected, but this should really benefit setup sweepers that were cock-blocked by it before, so I don't really have any problems with it going. Have to run at least one Grass move on a team to deal with effectively was kind of annoying. As far as I'm concerned, good riddance.

in all seriousness though. Im REALLY excited to give golurk a try, it seems really boss in this metagame, especially when tangela usage is going down to make room for shroom. It can also support the team by setting rocks!

@erisia, pinsir could actually break though quagsire rather easily due to mold breaker. But RU quag means klang is just getting that much better :D

Cryogo moving up is a weird thing. As much as I hated facing that thing, now I'm scared hazard teams are going to be everywhere. (kadabra I'm gonna love you more than ever)

Magmortar going up makes me happy, so many new defensive cores will become viable with his departure and many special walls like lickilicky will become near flawless against unboosted moves.

As for quag I'm pretty sad, he forged a big part of the metagame with his only presence (for the best). I'll miss his stupid face and his crazy walling capacities.

Golurk just adds to the decline of spinning in NU, but a decent subpuncher is a cool add to the tier.

Honestly RU hasn't nearly got the player base to be taking tier changing stats from. Two or three people spamming one Pokemon got it to move up just shows what a joke the situation is. Not saying I have the answer but this just proves how easily manipulated the RU stats are, and if a Pokemon suddenly comes into fashion with one or two people using it a lot it will be enough usage to move up to RU. It's a really bad situation to be in.

It's interesting to see that now that SD Samurott totally dominated the tier, two big BIG counters (Alomomola and Amoonguss) gets a super boost! It'd be fun, but we'll see at least 4-5 mons move up tier, and as usual, we won't get anything back. (Amoonguss, Alomomola, Zangoose, Ditto, and Cinccino all have a great chance of moving up) Still, we have a deep pool of usable mons, and I think NU would still be great!

IDK, spamming Wartortle a la Molk will make sure that nothing will ever spin on Golurk, etc. For those who say Metang (or anything else) usage will drop back when Molk abandons it, but usually the tiers have a significant impact in its usage. This is especially true for mons a bit more viable than Metang. Randoms will try to go use Metang in its most viable tier, see it's RU, and use it in RU instead of NU. Usage-based manipulation is a major fault with the current tiering system we have now, and I don't even know if there's a way we can address it for the time being. Obviously Metang doesn't have -that- much of an impact, but if another group of individuals decided to shift the metagame to their liking more then there's not very much we can do about it. At its very root, this is essentially the same as normal laddering, and even if we have a ~feeling~ that people are intentionally doing it to disrupt the metagame, it's very difficult to punish for intent. But yeah, it bothers me too.

It had 6365 battles this month, and all that is needed in that case is to make it get 3.41% usage is only around 450 uses. In that case, if Molk and 4 other people used Metang (IDK how many people were participating, but it was at least Molk and TropiOUs iirc), it would only take 3 Metang inclusive battles a day from each of the five to make it to exactly 450 uses of Metang (they could even end up battling each other on the ladder). The fact that someone else out there in RU who doesn't know about this may use Metang slightly helps in this case. In a tier like OU, it is much harder to achieve this since there are so many battles, or even in UU since it requires twice as many battles (and it is unlikely someone will be on every day). It is also very likely that Molk had a lot more than just 3 battles a day.

Thus, the best way to prevent something like this is to have more interest in a lesser-played tier like RU (or LC, though that is a singular tier with no shifts). If more people play in that particular tier, then the stats contain more battles that use more viable Pokemon.

Also, I agree with Armarillo's point exactly about the randoms part. For example, Garbodor hasn't changed at all, and it shot up in usage a lot. This happened only this month practically, and this month it also got a new analysis that recognized it as a viable Pokemon rather than a piece of garbage (literally). Gligar all of a sudden is a lot more common in UU than last tier shift, as it barely made it in UU last time (highly related events). Also, Pokemon Online (the beta, really crowded server) shows this even more. Since a lot of people check on here for an analysis and tiering, it screws over the stats there sometimes. Swampert, for example, dropped into UU on there earlier than on this server, and then it dropped to LU (PO's version of RU) because it was about 90th place or something in UU there until it was UU on here (and then it was back in UU). Other Pokemon Online shenanigans include Escavalier almost being NU, but it went up to UU before that, Buoffalant only having 2.91% usage in NU right now, Toxicroak having slightly over 1% in UU, Munchlax almost never being used in NU at one point before it moved up, Virizion dropping to LU for a while, etc.

I'm no expert but that is my theory. I'm thinking Metang is staying in RU for one more month, if only because people see it and like it because it is a steel type, but it will probably settle down after a while.

Smogon tiers update for usage every 3 months, so Metang will stay there for 3 months at least.

I think it was close to 600 or so. A lot of the usage is really affected by the Pokemon used on current ladder as well as RMTs, since quite a few people look there every day. Emboar was not nearly as popular as it is now until CBB popularized it with his team, and Golem was untouched until Amarillo posted his and pointed out how effective it is. Metang is going to remain RU for three months since tier shifts occur once every three months to encourage stabilization, but unless someone else goes out of their way to keep it there it's going to drop back to NU come October.

It was like 5 of us that spammed metang for at least 20 battles, most of the battles were Molk's and only like 100 were mine.I must say I was impressed by Molk's dedication to my silly idea as much as everyone else today/yesterday depending on your timezone. And manipulating usage in OU is not that hard actually, in a good day you can get about 1000 easily if someone has that dedication, UU is slightly tricker but at least 100 a day can be achieved easily with proper spam team building.

Thing is that Wartortle already loses to Golurk regardless of spread assumming any kind of prior damage and that Golurk is health.
