Garchomp (BW2 Revamp) [GP 1/2]

Lavos

Banned deucer.
As much as I love spamming Protect, I have to admit shrang's right. Garchomp has so many more good moves at its disposal - why scout around Genesect when you can roast it on the switch with Fire Blast? Heck, you could even run Sandstorm to fuck with weather teams. Dual Chop hits Dragonite on the switch too.
Genesect isn't going to switch into Garchomp before it knows what kind of set Chomp is running. CB EQ is a OHKO. Fire Fang kills. Fire Blast kills. No Genesect user in their right mind will be hard switching into Chomp.

Feel free to slash in Dragon Tail and Fire Blast, two other good moves that I neglected to mention. The last moveslot is really up to whatever move suits the team best. And don't hate on Protect, Genesect never sees it coming. The smart ones U-Turn expecting a switch, the dumb ones Ice Beam expecting you to be as bad as they are. Either way, they're in for a beating. Protect is good on almost anything, I don't see why Chomp should be any exception.

Protect is good

It's not like Garchomp is strapped for moveslots, (Aqua Tail will rarely see use) and like Lavos pointed out, you get to check mate Genesect (and scout what other choice users will use like Keldeo or Latios). Do, it really wants leftovers if Protect is being used, free healing incredible.

Protect is good when it's not being used at the expense of better moves. It's perfectly usable, yes, but there are probably 4 or 5 more useful moves in that slot.

This all looks fine, I'll approve as soon as you replace Protect with a more useful move (Dragon Tail, Roar, Toxic, Hyper Beam) or just remove it on the support set. Oh, and change the nature to Impish. We don't want to gimping defenses on a support set.

yeah you need to change the nature on the support set, but i wouldn't remove protect immediately. stay tuned on that one...

I guess that along with an Impish nature, there should also be another EV spread on the Support set? Simply changing the nature just seems extremely inefficient to me.. I did some quick calcs and a spread of 176 HP / 240 Def / 92 Spe Impish cuts its power by around a third, but increases its physical bulk by almost 40%.

It still KOes things like Scizor, Genesect and Terrakion but even in Rain, Aqua Tail hardly achieve a 2HKO on Gliscor any longer.

That EV spread is terribly inefficient. What is this supposed to outspeed? Jolly Breloom right?

Go 280 for Adamant Luke, Timid Heatran, +Smeargle, Jolly Breloom, etc.

EVs 101.. Any defensive set Maxes HP first. Jolly nature is best here, because speed is a higher base stat than defense on Garchomp. Your current spread is 401 HP / 314 Def / 263 Speed. Change the EVs to 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 Spe, Jolly. Now you have 420 HP / 275 Def / 280 Speed.. Probably take physical hits much the same, special hits better.. and outspeed a few more things.

Change the EVs to 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 Spe, Jolly.
Hmm.. I agree that this spread looks much better than the current one. Although it doesn't change anything against most Pokemon using Outrage, Draco Meteor, or Ice Beam, this spread allows to 100% survive HP Ice from Scarf Heatran (the other has a mere 18.75% chance to OHKO). If QC is fine with it, I'd like to take over this spread.

Double post to let you know that this is finally written. Man was more work than I thought in first place, mainly because I had to remove any Genesect mentions =_="

Just one more thing: Since QC condoned the EV change, I just implemented it. Thanks.

Migh be worth mentioning that Garchomp DOESN'T OHKO all the weather starters; Hippowdon and physically defensive Politoed can stomach a few hits, but may barely make it out alive from a 2HKO.

I actually didn't take these two into account as from what I've experienced, they're seen very rarely. I just forgot to mention "common" within the text though, I admit.. However, once Pkmn0078 is done with his am check, I'll edit them into the text, just to make things clearer.

Choice Band Garchomp has the absurd ability to OHKO any weather inducer by only using Outrage. Only 252 HP EV Tyranitar has a small chance to survive, so a bit of prior damage is needed to KO it 100%
CB Outrage vs 252/0 Tyranitar = 67%-78%

hardly a small chance to survive by any criteria. in fact,

CB Outrage vs 4/0 Tyranitar = 79%-93% (ohko'd after SR 41% of the time)

even uninvested Tyranitar has a large chance to survive AFTER stealth rock

Where is Stone Edge on the third slash of Choice Scarf Garchomp? As a matter of fact I think it should be the first slash. Having Stone Edge is extremely helpful for killing +1 Volcarona, Thunderus-T, and Tornadus-T without using Outrage (one of the main reasons to use scarf chomps is to outspeed scarf Landorus and thundy-t). It would also be useful for Gyarados, but he has really fell off the map as of late. also you should talk about what exactly Garchomp revenges with choice scarf, especially with its selected coverage.

[Overview]

Ladies and Ggentlemen, let us welcome back our old friend, who has always walksed on the edge between OU and Ubers: Garchomp! Along with a defining Evasion Clause change–now —banning Sand Veil from OU—Garchomp dropped off his gamaze-breaking sandevasion game, leaving him back with only with his Rough Skin ability. However, don't think Sand Veil wais the only reason Garchomp is such a strong Pokemonhas constantly been banned; great Dragon / Ground dual- typeing coupled with viablenear perfect base stats give Garchomp a lot ofmany merits. With only his STAB moves, Garchomp has almost perfect coverage, being only resisted by Bronzong and Skarmory, neither of which both are seen rarelyoften. Resisting Stealth Rock as well as fitttaking inadvantage of almost any weather condition are just a few more of his many abilities.

While 130 base Attack might seem just average nowadays, especially with other dompared toinant threats such as Dragonite and Salamence above that threshold, it is just enough for Garchomp fireing off almost unresisted Dragon-type moves at the opponent, includto hit very hard, giving one of the strongest Outrages. Although it faces real hard competition aroundwith his Dragon-type brethren —Dragonite, Salamence, Haxorus, Latios, and Hydreigon, —Garchomp can stand his ground bydue to his unique trabilities that sets him apart from the rest, including the abilitiesy to set up Stealth Rock and an immunity to Electric-type moves, blocking Thunder Wave and Volt Switch completely. Despite he hasving just two weaknesses, Dragon-type and Ice-type moves are seen on many teams, givcreating some problems with opposing Dragon-types that hold a Choice Scarfed Dragons unless it weields one himself as well as against Mamoswine, which his teammates should be able to work around.

move 3: Fire Fang / Aqua Tail
move 4: Dragon Claw / Dual Chop

[SET COMMENTS]

What to dodo you if you don't have the time to set up or you just don't want to? Slap on a Choice Band on him and you are all set to hit hard right off the bat. With an instant Attack boost, Garchomp's attacks already reach destructive power levels. Outrage will at least 2HKO the entire OU metagame, as lo barring as it is not a Steel-types, but with Earthquake he gets allpatching up the coverage he will need most of the timmissing holes in coverage. Although Earthquake is a risky pickmove for any Choice Pokemon, Garchomp still makes too good use of it, mainly due to STAB and its irreplaceable coverage abilities. Fire Fang opengives Garchomp a way througho beat Pokemon such as Scizor, Ferrothorn and Forretress, which laugh at Outrage and take justonly neutral damage from Earthquake.

Generally, Fire Fang is the preferred move without weather and any weather conditions not callnot named Rrain, whereasich Aqua Tail gets a significant boost in, allowing Garchomp to hit most Steel-types harder, including both Skarmory and Bronzong but it also, not to mention 2HKOesing Gliscor. OnFor the last slot, a secondary Dragon-type move is recommended not to stuso that Garchomp doesn't always have to lock in otself into Outrage to early. While Dragon Claw is the more safecure pick, Dual Chop has the same bBase Power, but splits into 2 strikes at the cost of a small accuracy drop.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Choice Band Garchomp has the absurd ability to deal with mostOHKO every weather inducers. Tyranitar can't take an by only Earthquake, physically defensive Ninetales andng Outrage. Only 252/0 Pol HP EV Tyranitoed are both OHKOed by Outrage. How has ever, physicn a smally defensiv chance Politoed is only in 2HKO rang survive, so is 252/0 Hippowdon. Physich cally defensive Hippowdon is the only weather inducer, that has a chance of not being 2HKOedn be rectified by Stealth Rock. Dual Chop's 2 strikes help in dealing with Substitute Dragonite and SubCM, some Pokemonset-up sweepers; without it, Garchomp normally has a hard time with them once they set up their Subsitute.

Before Garchomp can pull offunleash Outrage's full potential, Steel-types and faster Dragon-types are in need tomust be removed in first place. Skarmory especially is quite a nuisance, as it is just barely 2HKOed by Fire Fang in neutral weather and by Rain boosted Aqua TailGarchomp's coverage move of choice. Both Magneton and Magnezone make good partners for Garchomp as a DragMag combo, in order to remove not just this special threat for Garchomp. Ferrothorn, Forretress and a Choice locked Scizor are easily dealt that way. Any otherbut other Steel-types as well. The few Steel-types that could cause problems will have a hard day facing Dugtrio, including Heatran, Jirachi as well as opposing Mangezone and Magnetonit misses out on are hit for super effective by Earthquake. Another offensive option is Mamoswine, which has a high base Attack stat and great dual STAB moves, being able to potentially dealing with Dragon-types that threatend Garchomp threat singlehandedly. Defensively, Heatran and Jirachi canare a full stop to most Dragon-type and Ice-type moves, often aimed at Garchomp.

move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Fire Fang

ability: Rough Skin

evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Garchomp can utilize Swords Dance rather easiffectively, thanks to his goodecent amount of resistances and immunities. Just bring him in on a move of one of said movthose types, set up a Swords Dance, and start sweeping. Dual STAB isOutrage and Earthquake are pretty much all ithe needs becausince with a +2 boost under his belt, everything on his way will be plain overran by OutrageOutrage demolishes most Pokemon, including physically defensive Hippowdon and physically defensive Gyarados, even factoring in Intimidate for the latter. Still, Fire Fang is needed to deal with Skarmory, Ferrothorn, and Forretress. Scizor is OHKOed by Earthquake factoring Stealth Rock damage after a Swords Dance. Fire Fang should always be used over Fire Blast, as it does overall mo, so you don't need to use Fire damage after a booFang against it.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With Swords Dance, Garchomp has already has enough power, so he can useforfeit a power-boosting item for one that helps take certaing hits better. ThankfulFortunately, he only has two weaknesses, both of which both can be reduced a bit by using a Yache Berry or Haban Berry, respectively. The former allows Garchomp to take any unSTABed Ice-type moves, bu that alacks STAB and to survivinge a Life Orb Ice Shard from Mamoswine 100% of the time at full health. Except for Life OrbOther than Choice Specs Latios and Hydreigon, there's no Dragon-type at all that is able to KO Garchomp from full health when usingit holds a Haban Berry. ItHaban Berry lets Garchomp survive an Outrage from Life Orb Salamence, Dragonite, and opposing Choice Band Garchomp, but as well aso a Draco Meteor from Life Orb Latias and Choice Scarf Latios. Kyurem-B still has a 43.75% chance to OHKO with an Outrage, thoughwever. Dragon Claw can be used instead of Outrage not to geso that Garchomp is not locked into aone move,; however, it is weaker and will miss a few OHKOes it would catchget with Outrage, most importantly on Deoxys-D, Gliscor, Celebi, and Hippowdon.

Again, Garchomp feels very comfortable ion DragMag teams, where it can get some free switch-ins from Magneton's andor Magnezone's Volt Switch. GenerallyAlso, Steel-types work very well with Dragon-type Pokemon in general. Jirachi and Scizor perform a similaruch a role on a teamwhen paired with Garchomp, both having accessble to use U-Turn, giving Garchomp more chances to switch in more safely. Jirachi can even pass a Wish so Garchomp can get multiple chances to attempt a sweep. Even though Garchomp can wreck almost anything, he still doesn't like to get burned by a Scald or Will-O-Wisp from faster Pokemon, such as Choice Scarf Rotom-W and Starmie. Gastrodon works as a solid counter to these moves, and doesn't care much about burn. In case of an unexpected status ailment on Garchom, Heal Bell and Aromatherapyccurs, cleric support can be used to cure annoying Toxic damage and burnit. Vaporeon has the ability to fulfill many of these roles, having access to Heal Bell to curinge status, passingthe ability to Wish pass, and provide allows soft free switch-ins, akin to U-turn, by using Baton Pass.

move 4: Earthquake
item: Leftovers / Salac Berry

[SET COMMENTS]

Garchomp doesn't hide, he retreats tactically behind a Substitute. This retreat allows him to set up more easierly or attack right away if needed, depending on the situation. Managing to pull off a Swords Dance at the right motiment transforms this set into a deadly late -game cleaner as long as the opponent cadoesn't have any Pokemon that resist Outrage any longerlive and / or if he has more than one Pokemon being ableft tohat outspeeds Garchomp. With only his STAB moves available, he might, Garchomp does lose out on some coverage but gains the ability to set up and thus end up with significantly more power, often powering through most Steel-types even withat are take neutral damage from Earthquake, including Scizor, Ferrothorn and Forretress, all of which are easily 2HKOed when sittingby at +2 attackEarthquake.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Both Leftovers and Salac Berry havare usable coverage with Substitute, the former allowing it to regain some health over the time to set up more ofSubstitutes and the for simply receivingmer giving it the equivalent of a Choice Scarf effecboost without being stulocked in anyto one move. ButHowever, since powerful speed is a real bigweepers that boost their Speed are common in OU, there are a lot ofmany faster Pokemon runningthat often hold a Choice Scarf or havuse access to priority move. This includes Latios and Terrakion for the former and Scizor, Breloom, Dragonite, Mamoswine, and Lucario for the laddtter, making them all a threat to Garchomp without an active Substitute, even when getting the s a Speed boost. Although a Life Orb will rack up residual damage realquickly fast, it still increases the power fromof Garchomp's moves. The only notable change, however, is that at +2 attack, Skarmory can be 2HKOe'd by Outrage. Anything except it is at leastll other Pokemon in 2HKO range anyeither ways.

Without any Fire -type move and in worst case, if not being able to set up, Garchomp badesperately needs support to remove Skarmory and Bronzong from the opponent's team. Besides Magnezone and Magneton, there are a number of other Pokemon, running nicely on his side that can do the job, namely Thundurus-T, Rotom-W, Heatran and even Infernape.

[SET COMMENTS]

Instead of simply powering through the opponent's team with absurd power, Garchomp can hold a Choice Scarf turn Garchomp intoand become an effective revenge killer. Outrage is his mainthe move he uses the most once certain threatSteel-types and faster Choice Scarf users are removed. STAB Earthquake is used to hit most Steel-types hard, while o. In the third slot, heGarchomp can pick between either Fire Fang orand Aqua Tail. TNote that the laddtter should only really be used in Ron rain teams however, as it hits Skarmory and Bronzong asquite hard as possiblewith a rain boost. With pretty much perfect move coverage alongin those first three moveslots, Garchomp can run any move it wants on the last slot. Dragon Claw is recommended though, asince it gives him an additional Dragon-type STAB move without being forced to beat does not locked into it him intoo early in the battle.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With a Choice Scarf attached, Garchomp will noticeably lacks the immediate power, that Swords Dance and Choice Band variants offer, thus making it a badinferior pick for a Wwallbreaker. In return hHowever, Choice Shcarf Garchomp belongs tois also one of the fastest Pokemon in the game bar Choice Scarf Latios and, Choice Scarf Terrakion, and Chlorophyll boosted Venusaur in sun.

Typical pPartners that remove Steel-types are needed again, to get so that Garchomp can spam Outrage without working. Dugtrio in combination with Scizor or Jirachiry. Magneton and Magnezone again help Garchomp out as they can dragtrap and KO most of Steel-types. Dugtrio combined with Jirachi or Scizor can lurem out and KO the removeaining ones them easily.at Magneton and Magnezone again help Garchomp out as they can take out Skarmory safelycannot beat. Breloom and Mamoswine can threaten faster Choice Scarf users with their priority moves, so pairing them with Garchomp means he won't gethave to worry revenge killed by them anymore.

[SET COMMENTS]

Not only does Garchomp can not just hit hard, he can also set up Stealth Rock for the team in a successful manner. The main reason is that ithe can also handle most Rapid Spinn users the opponent might run. DualGarchomp's STABs can hit most of them very hard, Fire Blast will not justhits the remaining Steel-types hard, OHKOing Forretress, physically defensive Skarmory, and Scizor with Life Orb, but also hits as well as 2HKOing Ferrothorn and Scizor hard. Sspecially Ddefensive Skarmory will be 2HKOed as well. Swords Dance also works oin the last slot to letgive Garchomp get a second purpose, being able to set up Stealth Rock but also working as a set -up sweeper for the team.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Life Orb is the preferred item for Garchomp for the additional power; however, Focus Sash can also be used on, making Garchomp, making it a fantastic lead, considering he is one of the fastest viable Stealth Rock users in the tier,OU aside ofrom Terrakion and Aerodactyl. Thanks to Rough Skin, Garchomp is even able to break Terrakion's Focus Sash, ensuring an easy OHKO with Earthquake. Rapid Spinners, such as bulky Starmie, Forretress, Tentacruel, and even Donphan are almost no problemn-issues for this set, being able tos Garchomp can KO most of them easily, allowing it to keep up Stealth Rock on the field. This again reduces the actual need ofor a spinblocker on the same team.

Deoxys-D works very finewekk with Garchomp, as it can setting up Spikes, for urthe team,r increasing residual damage inflicted on the opponent's team. Thankfully, Stealth Rock Garchomp works very independently in contrast to his other sets, as it follows his own strategysupports its teammates, not the other way around. This allows theGarchomp's team to be more flexible than usual.

[SET COMMENTS]

Garchomp has great natural bulk and thus can work in a more supportive way for thehis team. Stealth Rock is again, what Garchomp is mainly aimsused for. In high contrast to anyGarchomp's other sets, this one forgoes Outrage completely, as it doesn't hit nearly as hard as any other variant. Instead, Dragon Claw works bettis preferred, having goodthe same great neutral coverage on its own, butwithout the lock-in. Dragon Tail can also be used to phase throughshuffle the opponent's team, which rackings up residual damage. Earthquake hits most Steel-types effectively, and any ohard, with the remaining ones dealt will be hurtth by either Fire Blast. Again, Aqua Tail should only really be used in Ron rain, but will teams, hitting Gliscor and Skarmory prettvery hard under ithen. Protect can be used to scout for the movesets of opponent'ssing Pokemon and movesets importantly find out what they might have to hit Garchomp effectively. Also, it helps to check for Choice Items and whatdetermine which move the opponent decides to stuck intowill use, giving Garchomp the chance to catch a break and let a teammate take certathe incoming hits better.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With a Jolly nature and 60 Speed EVs, Garchomp is fast enough to outspeed neutral base 90's, such as Adamant Lucario but, as well also Timid Heatran and Jolly Breloom. HP gotis maxed tso Garchomp can take hit from both sides of an array of hits, withe spectrum the brest way possible, rinvest got moved into Defense. The given spreadDefense EVs allows Garchomp to survive +2 Life Orb Breloom's Mach Punch, and Choice Band Terrakion's Close Combat and even Jollys well as having a decent chance to survive Life Orb Jolly Mamoswine's Ice Shard has just a 37.5% chance to OHKO from full health. Unboosted Hidden Power Ice from Pokemon, such as Jirachi, Heatran, Alakazam and Jolteon also fail to OHKO Garchomp. However, even with that much investment in its bulk, Garchomp still can't deal that well withtake most Outrages, Draco Meteors, and Ice Beam users.

This set works in almost any weather. In Ssandstorm, it increases passive damage on the opponent's team. Dragon Tail should be used on such teams in first place to maximize the potential passive damage. It is evenalso possible to use Rocky Helmet here to just increase passive damage even more. In Ssun and in Rrain, either Fire Blast orand Aqua Tail, respectively, get pseudo STAB, making them significantly strongmore powerful than they would otherwise to be.

[Other Options]

Dragon Tail can be used on any set that has a secondary Dragon-type moves other than Outrage slashed instead of Dragon Claw. Bulldoze receives STAB from Garchomp and allows himGarchomp to slow down Pokemon that are generally faster or have a Choice ScarfPokemon on the switch and eiforce the foe out or attack again or simply switchem. Stone Edge and Rock Slide are still some options it hashave great coverage with Earthquake, but there's no Pokemon that it can hit thats much bettharder than any other move listened on the setsGarchomp has at its disposal, not to mention their imperfect accuracy is off of levels.

A Classic Chain<add space>Chomp set with Draco Meteor and Fire Blast can work but lack general poweis inferior in comparisonpower to boosted Outrage and Fire Fang, mainly because of the big difference ofbetween Gachomp's Attack and Special Attack. Mixed variants should use a HastyNaive nature to keep his good bulk againstretain Garchomp's ability to take common priority moves. A passive damageToxic stalling setacker with Protect, Toxic, and a Rocky Helmet can being used in Ssandstorm can frustrate some play to wear down opposing Pokemon and be a general nuisance, but that it pretty muchGarchomp is usually better of straight-up attacking. RestTalk canwill surprise most opponents, getting rid of status and withding Garchomp's natural bulk, he c of status and increaseing his staying power slightly.. <something about how RestTalk is difficult to pull off>

[Checks and Counters]

Skarmory and Bronzong are the only Pokemon that ever happen to be seen in OU that resist both of Garchomp's STAB moves. More annoyingly, bBoth are known to bealso effective physical walls, makonly having a Fire-type move coverage almost mto worry about boosted Fire Fang andatory Aqua Tail. Choice Scarf Dragon-types such as Salamence, Haxorus, and Kyurem-B is faster than outrun all variany sets of Garchomp has except when runningbarring if he holds a Choice Scarf byof himself. Also, Kyurem-B's Outrage will definitely hurt a lot so prober Team support is neededs own and have powerful Dragon-type STAB moves with which to hitake care of him. Heatran, Jirachi and Scizor can take Outrage somewhat ok, allowChoice Scarf Latios is also notable for outspeeding to hit back hard with their STAB movesGarchomp even if he holds a Choice Scarf.

Defensive Gliscor is really annoying, being able to switch easily ina great check to Garchomp's Choice locked, as it is immune to Earthquake, forcing himGarchomp to switch. Mamoswine can cover this problem easily with his ridiculously powerful Ice-type moves but Rotom-W also works well to full stop most Glisor. In Rain if it holds a Choice item. However, Garchomp can hit it really hard with Aqua Tail and Vaporeon doesn't even care at all, negating Toxic with he must watch out for Hydration ability. Speaking of Mamoswine, he not juin-boost makes a good partner but is also one of Garchomp's worst problemsAqua Tail. With just an Adamant nature, an Ice Shard can almost OHKO from full health, which again makes Rotom-W one ofMamoswine OHKOes Garchomp's best partners. Garchomp generally has only two weaknesses whicith its low in quantity but immenexcellent typing; however, moves of these in quality:types are very common. Garchomp will die to almost any Outrage, Draco Meteor, Ice Beam, Blizzard and even several, or Hidden Power Ice. Steel-types luckyliy can take hits from both of this types, so one of them should always stand at Garchomp's side.

Fire Fang is the preferred move in any weather not named rain, which Aqua Tail gets a significant boost in, allowing Garchomp to hit Steel-types harder, including both Skarmory and Bronzong, not to mention 2HKOing Gliscor. For the last slot, a secondary Dragon-type move is recommended so that Garchomp doesn't always have to lock itself into Outrage. While Dragon Claw is the safer pick, Dual Chop has the same Base Power, but split into 2 strikes at the cost of a small accuracy drop.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Choice Band Garchomp has the absurd ability to OHKO every weather inducer by only using Outrage. Only 252 HP EV Tyranitar has even a small chance to survive, which can be rectified by Stealth Rock. Dual Chop's 2 strikes help in dealing with Substitute set-up sweepers; without it, Garchomp has a hard time with them once they set up their Subsitute.

Before Garchomp can unleash Outrage's full potential, Steel-types and faster Dragon-types are must be removed. Skarmory especially is quite a nuisance, as it is just barely 2HKOed by Garchomp's coverage move of choice. Both Magneton and Magnezone make good partners for Garchomp as a DragMag combo in order to remove not just this threat but other Steel-types as well. The few Steel-types that it misses out on are hit for super effective by Earthquake. Another offensive option is Mamoswine, which has a high base Attack stat and great STAB moves, being able to deal with Dragon-types that threaten Garchomp easily. Defensively, Heatran and Jirachi are a full stop to most Dragon- and Ice-type moves often aimed at Garchomp.

[SET]

move 2: Outrage / Dragon Claw
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Fire Fang

nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Garchomp can utilize Swords Dance rather effectively thanks to his decent amount of resistances and immunities. Just bring him in on a move of one of those types, set up a Swords Dance, and start sweeping. Outrage and Earthquake are pretty much all he needs because +2 Outrage demolishes most Pokemon, including physically defensive Hippowdon and Gyarados, even factoring in Intimidate for the latter. Still, Fire Fang is needed to deal with Skarmory, Ferrothorn, and Forretress. Scizor is OHKOed by Earthquake factoring Stealth Rock damage after a Swords Dance, so you don't need to use Fire Fang against it.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With Swords Dance, Garchomp already has enough power, so he can forfeit a power-boosting item for one that helps take certain hits better. Fortunately, he only has two weaknesses, both of which can be reduced by using a Yache or Haban Berry, respectively. The former allows Garchomp to take any Ice-type move that lacks STAB and to survive a Life Orb Ice Shard from Mamoswine 100% of the time at full health. Other than Choice Specs Latios and Hydreigon, there's no Dragon-type that is able to KO Garchomp from full health when it holds a Haban Berry. Haban Berry lets Garchomp survive an Outrage from Life Orb Salamence, Dragonite, and opposing Choice Band Garchomp, as well as a Draco Meteor from Life Orb Latias and Choice Scarf Latios. Kyurem-B still has a 43.75% chance to OHKO with an Outrage, however. Dragon Claw can be used instead of Outrage so that Garchomp is not locked into one move; however, it is weaker and will miss a few OHKOs it would get with Outrage, most importantly on Deoxys-D, Gliscor, Celebi, and Hippowdon.

Again, Garchomp feels very comfortable on DragMag teams, where it can get some free switch-ins from Magneton's or Magnezone's Volt Switch. Also, Steel-types work very well with Dragon-type Pokemon in general. Jirachi and Scizor perform such a role when paired with Garchomp, both able to use U-Turn, giving Garchomp more chances to switch in safely. In case an unexpected status ailment occurs, cleric support can be used to cure it. Vaporeon has the ability to fulfill many of these roles, having access to Heal Bell to cure status, the ability to Wish pass, and provide a free switch-in, akin to U-turn, by using Baton Pass.

move 2: Swords Dance
move 3: Outrage / Dragon Claw
move 4: Earthquake

[SET COMMENTS]

Garchomp doesn't hide, he retreats tactically behind a Substitute. This retreat allows him to set up more easily or attack right away if needed, depending on the situation. Managing to pull off a Swords Dance at the right time transforms this set into a deadly late-game cleaner as long as the opponent doesn't have any Pokemon that resist Outrage alive and / or more than one Pokemon left that outspeeds Garchomp. With only his STAB moves, Garchomp does lose out on some coverage but gains the ability to set up and thus end up with significantly more power, often powering through most Steel-types that are take neutral damage from Earthquake, including Scizor, Ferrothorn and Forretress, all of which are easily 2HKOed by a +2 Earthquake.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Both Leftovers and Salac Berry are usable with Substitute, the former allowing it to regain some health over time to set up more Substitutes and the former giving it the equivalent of a Choice Scarf boost without being locked into one move. However, since powerful sweepers that boost their Speed are common in OU, there are many faster Pokemon that often hold a Choice Scarf or use a priority move. This includes Latios and Terrakion for the former and Scizor, Breloom, Dragonite, Mamoswine, and Lucario for the latter, making them all a threat to Garchomp without an active Substitute, even with a Speed boost. Although Life Orb will rack up residual damage quickly, it still increases the power of Garchomp's moves. The only notable change, however, is that at +2 attack, Skarmory can be 2HKO'd by Outrage. All other Pokemon in 2HKO range either way.

Without any Fire-type move, Garchomp desperately needs support to remove Skarmory and Bronzong. Besides Magnezone and Magneton, there are a number of other Pokemon that can do the job, namely Thundurus-T, Rotom-W, Heatran and Infernape.

move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Fire Fang / Aqua Tail
move 4: Dragon Claw

evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Instead of simply powering through the opponent's team with absurd power, Garchomp can hold a Choice Scarf and become an effective revenge killer. Outrage is the move he uses the most once Steel-types and faster Choice Scarf users are removed. STAB Earthquake is used to hit most Steel-types hard. In the third slot, Garchomp can pick between Fire Fang and Aqua Tail. Note that the latter should only be used on rain teams, as it hits Skarmory and Bronzong quite hard with a rain boost. With pretty much perfect coverage in the first three moveslots, Garchomp can run any move it wants on the last slot. Dragon Claw is recommended though, as it gives him a Dragon-type STAB move that does not lock him into it.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With a Choice Scarf attached, Garchomp lacks the immediate power that Swords Dance and Choice Band variants offer, thus making it a inferior pick for a wallbreaker. However, Choice Scarf Garchomp is also one of the fastest Pokemon in the game bar Choice Scarf Latios, Choice Scarf Terrakion, and Venusaur in sun.

Partners that remove Steel-types are needed again so that Garchomp can spam Outrage without worry. Magneton and Magnezone again help Garchomp out as they can trap and KO most Steel-types. Dugtrio combined with Jirachi or Scizor can lure out and KO the remaining ones that Magneton and Magnezone cannot beat. Breloom and Mamoswine threaten faster Choice Scarf users with their priority moves, so pairing them with Garchomp means he won't have to worry revenge killed by them.

[SET]

move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Fire Blast / Swords Dance
item: Life Orb / Focus Sash
nature: Naive / Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Not only does Garchomp hit hard, he can also set up Stealth Rock in a successful manner. The main reason is that he can also handle most Rapid Spin users the opponent might run. Garchomp's STABs hit most of them very hard, Fire Blast hits the remaining Steel-types hard, OHKOing Forretress, physically defensive Skarmory, and Scizor with Life Orb as well as 2HKOing Ferrothorn and specially defensive Skarmory. Swords Dance also works in the last slot to give Garchomp a second use as a set-up sweeper.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Life Orb is the preferred item for Garchomp for the additional power; however, Focus Sash can also be used, making Garchomp a fantastic lead considering he is the fastest viable Stealth Rock user in OU aside from Terrakion and Aerodactyl. Thanks to Rough Skin, Garchomp is even able to break Terrakion's Focus Sash, ensuring an easy OHKO with Earthquake. Rapid Spinners, such as bulky Starmie, Forretress, Tentacruel, and Donphan are non-issues for this set, as Garchomp can KO most of them easily, allowing it to keep Stealth Rock on the field. This reduces the need for a spinblocker.

Deoxys-D works very wekk with Garchomp, as it can set up Spikes, further increasing residual damage inflicted on the opponent's team. Stealth Rock Garchomp works very independently in contrast to his other sets, as it supports its teammates, not the other way around. This allows Garchomp's team to be more flexible than usual.

[SET]
name: Support
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Dragon Claw / Dragon Tail
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Fire Blast / Aqua Tail / Protect
item: Leftovers
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Garchomp has great natural bulk and thus can work in a more supportive way for his team. Stealth Rock is again what Garchomp is mainly used for. In high contrast to Garchomp's other sets, this one forgoes Outrage completely, as it doesn't hit nearly as hard. Instead, Dragon Claw is preferred, having the same great neutral coverage without the lock-in. Dragon Tail can also be used to shuffle the opponent's team, which racks up residual damage. Earthquake hits most Steel-types hard, with the remaining ones dealt with by Fire Blast. Again, Aqua Tail should only be used on rain teams, hitting Gliscor and Skarmory very hard under it. Protect can be used to scout the movesets of opposing Pokemon and most importantly find out what they might have to hit Garchomp effectively. Also, it helps determine which move the opponent will use, giving Garchomp the chance to catch a break and let a teammate take the incoming hit.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With a Jolly nature and 60 Speed EVs, Garchomp is fast enough to outspeed neutral base 90s, such as Adamant Lucario, as well as Timid Heatran and Jolly Breloom. HP is maxed so Garchomp can take an array of hits, with the rest invested in Defense. The Defense EVs allow Garchomp to survive +2 Life Orb Breloom's Mach Punch and Choice Band Terrakion's Close Combat as well as having a decent chance to survive Life Orb Jolly Mamoswine's Ice Shard. Hidden Power Ice from Pokemon such as Jirachi, Heatran, Alakazam and Jolteon also fail to OHKO Garchomp. However, even with that much investment in its bulk, Garchomp still can't take most Outrages, Draco Meteors, and Ice Beams.

This set works in almost any weather. In sand, it increases passive damage on the opponent's team. Dragon Tail should be used on such teams to maximize the potential passive damage. It is also possible to use Rocky Helmet to increase passive damage even more. In sun and rain, Fire Blast and Aqua Tail, respectively, get pseudo STAB, making them significantly more powerful than they would otherwise be.

[Other Options]

Dragon Tail can be used on any set that has a secondary Dragon-type move other than Outrage slashed instead of Dragon Claw. Bulldoze receives STAB and allows Garchomp to slow down faster Pokemon on the switch and force the foe out or attack them. Stone Edge and Rock Slide are have great coverage with Earthquake, but there's no Pokemon that it hits much harder than any other move Garchomp has at its disposal, not to mention their imperfect accuracy.

A Classic Chain<add space>Chomp set with Draco Meteor and Fire Blast can work but is inferior in power to boosted Outrage and Fire Fang, mainly because of the big difference between Gachomp's Attack and Special Attack. Mixed variants should use a Naive nature to retain Garchomp's ability to take common priority moves. A Toxic stalling set with Protect, Toxic, and Rocky Helmet can be used in sand to wear down opposing Pokemon and be a general nuisance, but Garchomp is usually better of straight-up attacking. RestTalk will surprise most opponents, ridding Garchomp of status and increasing his staying power. <something about how RestTalk is difficult to pull off>

[Checks and Counters]

Skarmory and Bronzong are the only Pokemon seen in OU that resist both of Garchomp's STAB moves. Both are also effective physical walls, only having to worry about boosted Fire Fang and Aqua Tail. Choice Scarf Dragon-types such as Salamence, Haxorus, and Kyurem-B outrun all variants of Garchomp barring if he holds a Choice Scarf of his own and have powerful Dragon-type STAB moves with which to hit him. Choice Scarf Latios is also notable for outspeeding Garchomp even if he holds a Choice Scarf.

Defensive Gliscor is a great check to Garchomp, as it is immune to Earthquake, forcing Garchomp to switch if it holds a Choice item. However, it must watch out for rain-boosted Aqua Tail. With an Adamant nature, an Ice Shard from Mamoswine OHKOes Garchomp. Garchomp has only two weaknesses with its excellent typing; however, moves of these types are very common. Garchomp will die to almost any Outrage, Draco Meteor, Ice Beam, Blizzard, or Hidden Power Ice.

Your prose was kind of, idk, off throughout. Also, you included partners to deal with threats to Garchomp in C&C. It's supposed to be about how to beat Garchomp, not about how you can beat threats to Garchomp. That's what AC is for. There was also a ton of fluff and things that didn't really make sense. Keep that in mind for next time.

EDIT: seconding ThePillsburyDoughBoy's suggestion, except that it should be Rock Slide. Rock Slide accomplishes the same KOs on those Pokemon but has much better accuracy. Garchomp is AMAZING to revenge kill +1 Volcarona. Choice Scarf Thundurus-T and standard Tornadus-T are also great Pokemon to be able to revenge kill. Garchomp is especially good at revenge killing the former because of its immunity to Thunder / Thunderbolt and Volt Switch.

EDIT2: oh and I removed Rough Skin because it's the only legal ability. You might want to keep it to emphasize that Sand Veil is illegal, but you already mention that in the overview, which everyone reads when they read an analysis.

Husky i think that you should expand the AC paragraphs a bit as they are somewhat lacking in content. For example i saw nowhere any mention of Ferrothorn as a partner, which not only takes on easily most Pokemon that try to revenge kill Garchomp, such as Starmie with Ice Beam, Mamoswine, Lati@s, Choice Scarf Jirachi, etc, but can setup both Spikes and SR to aid Garchomp in either sweeping or wallbreaking. Bronzong is another very good defensive partner to consider as it can check most faster Pokemon that threaten Garchomp and sets up SR.

Another example of a paragrpah lacking in content is the second part of the AC of the SubSD set which is only three lines long and says nothing about defensive teammates, or even offensive teammates that have same counters and can take some of the attacks that Garchomps detests.

In general i would advice you to try and be a little more specific, as you should be in the AC parts.

[Overview]

Ladies and Gentlemen, let us welcome back our old friend, who always walks on the edge between OU and Ubers: Garchomp! Along with a defining Evasion Clause change–now banning Sand Veil from OU–Garchomp dropped off his amazing sand game i don't really get what you're trying to say here, leaving him back with only with his Rough Skin ability. However, don't think Sand Veil was the only reason Garchomp is such a strong Pokemon for Garchomp's success; great Dragon / Ground dual-type coupled with viable base stats give Garchomp a lot of merits. With only his STAB moves, Garchomp has almost perfect STAB coverage, being with his STAB moves only resisted by the rarely seen Bronzong and Skarmory which both are seen rarely. Resisting Stealth Rock, as well as fitting in almost any weather condition 'working well under any weather condition' / 'fitting in almost any weather team' imo are just a few more of his abilities.

While base 130 base Attack seems just average nowadays, compared to Dragonite and Salamence, it is just enough for Garchomp fireing to fire off almost-unresisted Dragon-type moves at the opponent, including one of the strongest Outrages this entire sentence is fluffy / can be removed imo. Although it he faces real hard competition around from his Dragon brethren Dragonite, Salamence, Haxorus, Latios, and Hydreigon, Garchomp can stand his ground by thanks to his unique abilities that sets him apart, including the ability to set up Stealth Rock and an immunity to Electric-type moves, blocking Thunder Wave and Volt Switch completely. Despite Although he has just two weaknesses, Dragon-type and Ice-type moves are seen on any team, giving him some problems with Choice Scarf Dragons unless it he weilds wields one himself, as well as Mamoswinewhich his teammates should work around.

What to do if you don't have the time to set up or you just don't want to? Slap a Choice Band on him and you are set to go. With an instant Attack boost, Garchomp's attacks already will reach destructive levels. Outrage will at least 2HKO the entire OU metagame, as long as it is not a Steel-type, but with Earthquake he gets all the coverage he will need most of the time bar Steel-types—which is where Earthquake comes in. Although Earthquake is a risky pick for any Choice Pokemon, Garchomp still makes too good use of it, mainly due to STAB and coverage abilities huh?. Fire Fang opens Garchomp a way through lets Garchomp break through Pokemon such as Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Forretress, which laugh at Outrage and take just neutral damage from Earthquake; it is therefore the preferred move outside of rain.

Generally, Fire Fang is the preferred move without weather and any weather conditions not called Rain, whereas In rain, on the other hand, Aqua Tail gets a significant boost, allowing him to hit most Steel-types—including Skarmory and Bronzong—harder; including both Skarmory and Bronzong but it also 2HKOes Gliscor. In the last slot, a secondary Dragon-type move is recommended so as not to stuck lock into Outrage to early. While Dragon Claw is the more secure pick, Dual Chop what are its advantages - who specifically does it beat? has the same base Power, but splits in 2 strikes at the cost of a small accuracy drop lets Garchomp get past Substitute Dragonite and SubCM setup sweepers.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Choice Band Garchomp has the absurd weird word! handy / useful? ability to deal with most weather inducers. Tyranitar can't take any is dispatched of by Earthquake, while physically defensive Ninetales and 252/0 Politoed are both OHKOed by Outrage. However, both physically defensive Politoed and 252/0 Hippowdon is are only in 2HKO range sometimes survive(s) two Outrages? are only 2HKOed? i don't really get what you mean, so is 252/0 Hippowdon. Physically defensive Hippowdon is the only weather inducer, that has a chance of not being 2HKOed. Dual Chop's 2 strikes help dealing with Substitute Dragonite and SubCM, some Pokemon, Garchomp normally has a hard time with once they set up their Subsitute.

Before Garchomp can pull off unleash Outrage's full potential, Steel-types and faster Dragons are in will need to first be removed in first place. Skarmory especially is quite a nuisance, as it is barely 2HKOed by Fire Fang in neutral weather and by rain-boosted Aqua Tail. Both Magneton and Magnezone make good partners for Garchomp as a DragMag combo, in order to remove not just this special specific threat for Garchomp , but also Ferrothorn, Forretress and a Choice locked Scizor Choice-locked into (?) are easily dealt that way. Any other potentially problematic Steel-type that could cause problems will have a hard day facing Dugtrio; including examples include Heatran, Jirachi, as well as opposing Magnezone and Magneton. Another offensive option is Mamoswine, which has a high base Attack stat and great dual STAB moves, being able to potentially dealing with and Garchomp threat singlehandedly being able to singlehandedly deal with most of Garchomp's threats?. Defensively, Heatran and Jirachi can put a full stop to most Dragon-type and Ice-type moves, aimed at Garchomp.

Still, Fire Fang is needed to deal with Skarmory, Ferrothorn, and Forretress—but note that Scizor is OHKOed by +2 Earthquake factoring Stealth Rock damage after a Swords Dance after Stealth Rock. Fire Fang should always be used over Fire Blast, as it does overall more damage after a boost.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With Swords Dance, Garchomp has already enough power after a Swords Dance boost, so he can use an item that helps in taking hits better. Thankfully, he only has two weaknesses, which can both can be reduced a bit by using a Yache Berry or Haban Berry respectively. It while the latter lets Garchomp survive an Outrage from Life Orb Salamence, Life Orb Dragonite, and opposing Choice Band Garchomp, but also as well as a Draco Meteor from Life Orb Latias and Choice Scarf Latios. Kyurem-B still has a 43.75% chance to OHKO with an Outrage though. Draco Meteor from Life Orb Latios and Hydreigon still always OHKOes Garchomp, though, as does Outrage from Kyurem-B 43.75% of the time. Dragon Claw can be used instead of Outrage not to get to avoid being locked into a move; however, it is weaker and will miss out on a few OHKOes it would catch with Outrage, most importantly OHKOs on Deoxys-D, Gliscor, Celebi, and Hippowdon.

Managing to pull off a Swords Dance at the right moment transforms this set into a deadly late game cleaner as long as the opponent can't resist Outrage any longer or if he has more than one Pokemon being able to outspeed Garchomp. try something like this "Either of two conditions are required for a successful late-game clean-up / sweep: either remove all the opponent's Outrage sponges, or leave him with no more than one faster Pokemon"..? With only his STAB moves available, he Garchomp might lose some coverage, but he gets significantly more power in return. often powering through most Steel-types even with a neutral Earthquake A neutral Earthquake is often enough to let him power through most Steel-types, including Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Forretress, all of whom are easily 2HKOed when sitting at +2 attack at +2.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Both Leftovers and Salac Berry have usable coverage work well with Substitute, allowing to regain some health over the time to set up more often or simply receiving a Choice Scarf effect without being stuck in any move fairly obvious and hence unnecessary really - perhaps give specific examples where one or the other would work better?. But since speed is a real big term in OU, there are a lot of Pokemon running a Choice Scarf or have access to priority. This includes Latios and Terrakion for the former and Scizor, Breloom, Dragonite, Mamoswine, and Lucario for the ladder, making them all a threat to Garchomp without an active Substitute, even when getting the speed boost and so...? what point are you trying to make / what consequences does this have on garchomp? if it makes salac berry less viable, then say so outright; if your point was that you need teammates to cover for this, then move this to the below paragraph and name specific teammates Although a Life Orb will rack up residual damage really fast, it still increases the power from Garchomp's moves. The only notable change, however, is that at +2 attack, Skarmory can be 2HKOed by Outrage. Anything except it is at least in 2HKO range anyways. A Life Orb boost enables Garchomp to 2HKO Skarmory with +2 Outrage; however, be aware that residual damage will rack up quickly.

Without Lacking any Fire-type move and in worst case, if not being able to set up potentially being unable to set up, Garchomp badly needs support to remove opposing Skarmory and Bronzong from the opponent's team.
Instead of simply powering through the opponent's team with absurd power, a Choice Scarf Garchomp into an effective revenge killer. Choice Scarf Garchomp noticeably lacks the immediate wallbreaking power of his other variants, but is one of the fastest Pokemon in the game and is hence an effective revenge killer. Outrage is his main move once certain threats are removed, STAB Earthquake is used to hits most Steel-types hard, while on the third slot, he can pick between either Fire Fang or Aqua Tail for coverage. The ladder latter should only really be used in on rain teams, however, as where it hits Skarmory and Bronzong as hard as possible. With pretty much near-perfect move coverage along those moves, Garchomp can run any move on in the last slot. Dragon Claw is recommended though, since it gives him an additional STAB move without being forced to be locked into it too early in the battle for a consequence-free STAB move.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With a Choice Scarf attached, Garchomp will noticeably lack the immediate power, that Swords Dance and Choice Band variants offer, thus making it a bad pick for a Wallbreaker.
Garchomp can not just hit hard is no one-dimensional hard-hitter; he can also 'effectively' / 'successfully' here, if you must set up Stealth Rock for the team in a successful manner, The main reason is that it can also handle most Rapid Spinner the opponent might run as he can handle most spinners between its dual STAB and Fire Blast. Dual STABs can hit most of them very hard, Fire Blast will not just OHKO Forretress with Life Orb, but also hits Ferrothorn and Scizor hard. Specially Defensive Skarmory will be 2HKOed as well. The latter OHKOes Forretress with Life Orb, 2HKOes specially defensive Skarmory, and decimates Ferrothorn and Scizor. Swords Dance also works on in the last slot to let Garchomp get a second purpose, being able to set up Stealth Rock but also working as a set up sweeper for the team give Garchomp a secondary role as setup sweeper.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Focus Sash can be used on Garchomp, making it to make Garchomp a fantastic lead, considering as he is one of the fastest Stealth Rock users in the tier, aside ahead even of Terrakion and Aerodactyl. Thanks to Rough Skin, Garchomp is even able to break Terrakion's Focus Sash, ensuring an easy OHKO with Earthquake. Rapid Spinners, such as bulky Starmie, Forretress, Tentacruel, and even Donphan are almost no problem for this set, being able to KO most of them easily, allowing it to keep up Stealth Rock on the field. This again reduces the actual need of a spinblocker on the same team belongs in set comments imo.

Deoxys-D works very fine nicely with Garchomp, by setting up Spikes for the team, and increasing residual damage on the opponent's team. Thankfully Other than this, Stealth Rock Garchomp works very independently in contrast to his other sets, as it follows hisits you're referring to the specific variant (it) not the pokemon (he) own strategy. This allows the team to be more flexible than usual.

[SET]
name: Support
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Dragon Claw / Dragon Tail
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Fire Blast / Aqua Tail / Protect
item: Leftovers
ability: Rough Skin
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Garchomp has great natural bulk and thus can work in a more support-oriented way for the team. Stealth Rock is again, what Garchomp mainly aims for Garchomp's main aim. In contrast to any his other sets, this one forgoes Outrage completely, as it doesn't hit nearly as hard as any other variant. Instead, Dragon Claw works better, having good neutral coverage on its own as it has the same great standalone neutral coverage, but Dragon Tail can be used to phaze through the opponent's team, racking up residual damage. Earthquake hits most Steel-types effectively, and any other one will be hurt by either Fire Blast. Aqua Tail should only really be used in Rain, but will hit Gliscor and Skarmory pretty hard then. optional rephrase: 'The combination of Earthquake and Fire Blast destroys all Steel-types, but Aqua Tail can be used in rain to take out Gliscor and Skarmory.' Protect can be used to scout for the opponent's movesets and what they might have to hit Garchomp effectively. Also it helps to check for Choice Items and what the opponent decides to stuck into, giving Garchomp the chance to let a teammate take certain hits better. Alternatively, Protect lets Garchomp scout for super effective moves, and aids prediction around Choice users.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With a Jolly nature and 60 Speed EVs, Garchomp is fast enough to The given Speed investment lets Garchomp outspeed neutral base 90s, such as Adamant Lucario, but also as well as positive-natured Timid Heatran and Jolly Breloom. HP got maxed to take hit from both sides of the spectrum the best way possible, rest got moved into Defense. The given spread maximizes Garchomp's bulk, and specifically allows Garchomp him to survive +2 Life Orb Breloom's Mach Punch, and Choice Band Terrakion's Close Combat. and Even Jolly Life Orb Mamoswine's Ice Shard has just a 37.5% chance to OHKO from full health, while unboosted Hidden Power Ice from Pokemon, such as the likes of Jirachi, Heatran, Alakazam, and Jolteon also fail to OHKO Garchomp. However, even with that much investment in its bulk, Garchomp still can't deal that well with most Outrage, Draco Meteor, and Ice Beam users even this bulky Garchomp cannot sponge / should avoid Outrage, Draco Meteor, and Ice Beam.

This set works in almost any weather. In Sandstorm, it In particular, sandstorm increases passive damage on the opponent's team; Dragon Tail and even Rocky Helmet should therefore be used 'considered' if you want something less strong? on such teams in first place to maximize the potential passive damage. It is even possible to use Rocky Helmet here to just increase passive damage more. In sun and in rain, either Fire Blast or and Aqua Tail get pseudo-STAB respectively, making them significantly stronger than they use to be.

[Other Options]

Dragon Tail can be used on any set that has a second Dragon-type moves slashed instead of Dragon Claw Dragon Tail can replace Dragon Claw on any set where the latter is secondary STAB. Bulldoze receives STAB from Garchomp and allows him Garchomp to slow down Pokemon that are generally faster or have a Choice Scarf faster Pokemon or Choice Scarf users on the switch and either attack again or simply switch something along the lines of 'potentially letting him fire off another attack' highlights the benefits of bulldoze best imo. Stone Edge and Rock Slide are still some options it has but there's no Pokemon that it can hit that much better than any other move listened on the sets, not to mention their accuracy is off of levels. Garchomp can also learn Stone Edge and Rock Slide, but these offer no additional coverage and have subpar accuracy.

A Classic is this meant to be capitalized a la 'classic' vs 'new' mixmence? if not, decap it ChainChomp set with Draco Meteor and Fire Blast can work vague, feels like filler, etc etc. works against what? because people commonly expect physical chomp, or something along those lines? but lacks general power in comparison to boosted Outrage and Fire Fang, mainly because of the difference of Gachomp's Attack and Special Attack 'due both to Garchomp's higher Attack stat and his ability to boost it' (optional change, might change your meaning slightly but idk if this was what you intended in the first place). Mixed variants should use a Hasty nature to keep his Garchomp's good bulk against common priority moves. A passive damage stacker with Protect, Toxic, and a Rocky Helmet being can be used in sandstorm to frustrate some players this last bit also feels fluffy tbh , but that it pretty much. RestTalk can surprise most opponents, getting rid of status and with Garchomp's natural bulk and newfound ability to get rid of status, he can increase his staying power slightly 'considerably' would be more convincing here, lol, but i'll leave that change entirely up to you!.

[Checks and Counters]

Skarmory and Bronzong are the only Pokemon that ever happen to be seen in OU that resist both of Garchomp's STAB moves. More annoyingly, both are known to be effective physical walls, making a Fire-type coverage move coverage almost mandatory. Choice Scarf Kyurem-B is faster than any set Garchomp has except when running a Choice Scarf by himself outspeeds all bar Choice Scarf Garchomp. Also, Kyurem-B's Outrage will definitely hurt a lot so prober Team support is needed to take care of him. out of place - you're writing this for people looking to counter garchomp, not garchomp users. with this in mind, remove the last sentence of this paragraph if it's referring to sponging kyu-b's outrage. even if it isn't, some reorganization might help make things clearer here - imo separating offensive checks/ counters (ie those that are faster, like kyu-b) and more defensive ones (skarmory, bronzong, these misc steels) into two distinct paragraphs would be a good place to start Heatran, Jirachi and Scizor can take Outrage somewhat ok, allowing to hit back hard with their STAB moves.

Defensive Gliscor is really annoying, being able to can switch easily into Garchomp's Choice-locked Earthquake, forcing him to switch. Mamoswine can cover this problem easily with his ridiculously powerful Ice-type moves but Rotom-W also works well to full stop most Glisor. In Rain, Garchomp can hit it really hard with Aqua Tail and Vaporeon doesn't even care at all, negating Toxic with her Hydration ability. again, this is targeted at people looking to counter garchomp! consider putting this mamoswine / rotom-w / vaporeon stuff under AC second para of one or both of the choice sets Speaking of Mamoswine, he not just makes a good partner but is also one of Garchomp's worst problems. With just an Adamant nature, Ice Shard can almost OHKO from full health, which again makes Rotom-W one of Garchomp's best partners. Garchomp generally has only two weaknesses which is low in quantity but immense in quality: Garchomp will die to almost any Outrage, Draco Meteor, Ice Beam, Blizzard and even several Hidden Power Ice. Steel-types luckyliy can take hits from both of this types, so one of them should always stand at Garchomp's side.

yeaaa checks and counters needs rewriting not gonna gp the rest of it - while you do have some good points there's also a lot of out-of-place information. i hope i helped give you a better idea of what we're looking for here (and how to organize it maybe), but you can also always check out some other onsite analyses and the stickied formatting guide
[gp]1/2[/gp]

gonna stamp this for now but feel free to pm me a rewritten checks and counters section if you want

Choice Scarf:

Fire Blast > Fire Fang. It hits everything you would use it on harder because of base power and lower SpDef on your targets. Yes, it is better even with a -SpA nature. You can do the calcs if you want. Fire Blast will 2HKO Skarmory and while it sucks being stuck on either one you want max output damage.

Dual Chop / Stone Edge > Dragon Claw. Dual Chop does Dragon Claw but better. Why? Garchomp's speed with Scarf let's it break Substitutes. Good against annoying jerkoffs like Gengar. Stone Edge deserves a slash for Volcarona. Yes, Volc is that big of a deal.

This analysis is pretty important. Could you please implement sirn's check so I can do mine and push this through? Thanks.

My deepest apologies that I had that less time to implement the GP check yet. Christmas preparations, work etc hold me busier than I expected in first place..

I'd like to ask sirndpt for re-checking this as I made a couple of changes out of the line, while working on your GP check. Please tell me, if there's something you're not fine with. I also will rewrite the Checks and Counters section entirely new so please refrain from it for now. I'll input the new version the upcoming days.

Thanks for all your patience and -once again- sorry for the delay and trouble I might caused of that.

I'd like to echo RL in saying that Fire Fang on ScarfChomp doesn't make much sense when Fire Blast hits nearly everything that it needs to hit (namely Skarmory and Ferrothorn) harder.

Sorry, but i've got a few last minute suggestions I want to push through QC.

Stone Edge is a great move on Garchomp because it lets you decimate Volcorona, and OHKO Tornadus-T / Thundurus-T without resorting to Outrage. Stone Edge is a stronger option than Aqua Tail on the Choice Scarf set, since I find that Aqua Tail really shines on the CB set and only if the rain is up. I agree with RL on Dual Chop VS Dragon Claw. Dual Chop is a better choice than Dragon Claw because of Dual Chop's ability the damage substitute users and the fact Scarf Garchomp is rarely using Dragon Claw anyway (from my experience anyway) so the accuracy drop isn't too troubling.

On the Fire Fang vs Fire Blast issue, I can agree with the fact that Fire Blast is slightly better, but i'm starting to doubt the effectiveness of running a Fire-type move on the Choice Scarf set. I don't know why we're mentioning Fire Blast's ability to 2HKO Skarmory, it's never going to happen against a half-decent player (there's a good chance they'll use that opportunity to set up on Choice locked Garchomp). It's only use over Fire Fang is getting %20~ more damage on Skarmory that switch in.

This is how the Choice Scarf should look like imo:

name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Outrage
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Stone Edge / Aqua Tail / Fire Blast
move 4: Dual Chop / Dragon Claw

The 1st, 2nd and 4th slot are non negotiable. Choice Scarf Garchomp should always have a secondary Dragon STAB move. The 3rd slot combines all 3 coverage moves, and orders them in importance.

I know its kind of a last minute thing Husky, but it would be great if you could incorporate these changes to your analysis. If you can't, QC can always edit the analyis via SCMS after it goes onsite.
