Not sure what the big ruckus about Stealth Rock is. Pokemon with Levitate are legal, and the majority of them do not have a Stealth Rock weakness.

Gengar
Weezing
Flygon
Lunatone
Solrock
Claydol
Latias
Latios
Mismagius
Bronzong
Rotom-N
Rotom-A
Uxie
Mesprit
Azelf
Cresselia
Eelektross
Cryogonal
Hydreigon

Plenty of Pokemon there, and only like four of them (Cryogonal, Rotom-S, Rotom-F, and Rotom-H but maybe more idk) are weak to Stealth Rock. Calm down and play the game. Theorymon bans aren't going to do anything for anyone.

I completely forgot about the Rotoms. Now I don't have to worry about my Choice Scarf user. I was thinking Zapdos but Rotom-W's OU set may actually be useful here because of Rotom's overall better bulk and typing.

Anyone considered Azelf as a Mixed Attacker ? It has the stats to make use of it, the elemental punches, Thunderbolt and Flamethrower, and then there's still Psyshock. It could basically work like Infernape used to in DPP OU, since there's no perma weather to nerf it like it did with ape.

I was thinking Zapdos but Rotom-W's OU set may actually be useful here because of Rotom's overall better bulk and typing.

Rotom-A does not have better bulk than Zapdos, at least not without investment.

Rotom-A Physical Bulk = 304*313 = 95152
Rotom-A Special Bulk = 304*313 = 95152

Zapdos Physical Bulk = 384*269 = 103296
Zapdos Special Bulk = 384*279 = 107136

Rotom-W may win in typing, but Electric/Flying is hardly a bad defensive typing. Rotom-W's biggest advantage as a scarfer imo is its dual STABs, as Zapdos has no decent Flying STAB.

Seriously, how does Zapdos not even learn Air Slash?

PHEW. I've probably made some mistakes but... Hope it helps? This list features not only the Pokemon legal in Sky Battles sorted by National Pokedex order, but also shows its type, an image of the Pokemon, its base stats and abilities, and whether or not it can have Stealth Rock/Rapid Spin/Magic Bounce. It also provides a direct link to the Pokemon's BW analysis to quickly and conveniently look at the Pokemon's sets to see what will fit best for your team. I've also added some Teambuilding resources at the bottom. If there's anything else people would like, I'd be happy to add it - within reason, of course.

The advantage it has is it's typing. Sorry I worded that wrongly, I know Rotom-W's HP sucks when compared to Zapdos but being only weak to grass is an advantage since I don't think they'll be too common in this tier (then again there's Giga Drain on Gengar) while Zapdos is weak to Ice and rock and a lot of pokes are going to be carrying those in this meta. Zapdos does have its advantages though, speed, better special attack, etc. It's biggest downfall is that it has to rely on electric stab, volt switch and coverage - heat wave and hp ice maybe, while Rotom can use Hydro Pump in addition to tbolt, hp ice and volt switch. Same movesets, different stats and typing. Depends on your team I guess.

Ikr. It's BS. One of Zapdos' alternate language names is Thor (I think) so it technically should be able to learn Hurricane. :p

Nice list Shiruba. o.O didn't realize the Johto lineup was that small.

The Johto lineup had Pokemon like Murkrow/Midreavus and Gligar in it to make it a bit bigger, originally, but considering that we have their evolved forms/a better Prankster user, I didn't think they'd be really important to include?

[I like how small the Johto list is, though... LESS WORK FOR ME]

&& In French its name is Elekthor. I sort of freaked out when I read that in my game, too.
"This Rare Candy... I like it! Another!"
Articuno is Artikodin and Moltres is Sulfura, if I recall correctly.

Update: I'll be showing their stats and abilities so you can see them right away and determine their potential. However, I will not do this all at once; it's a lengthy process. As such, I'll be doing them in batches by generation.
Put this in the OP stat!

Awesome work!

I wish Golurk was allowed. Not only him, but what about non-Flyers and non-Levitators that can learn Fly? IMO they should be allowed.

Got a new Sky Battle I had with Derwin of PokeMoshPitBeta, watch it on the Battle Videos GTS thing on the second floor of the Pokemon Center:
Video no.:19-79576-48039

[You can also watch it here]

Great battle! Brian [you, I'm guessing?] got a bit haxxed out with the Togekiss shenanigans, but that was still pretty great. Dodrio's a wrecking ball.

Just posting to say Sky battles have been coded as an playable tier on Nollan's Factory Pokemon Showdown Server. to play the metagame go to : http://nollansfactory.psim.us/ I hope all of you can enjoy Nollan hard work at coding to make this an official playable tier this tier is only OU sky battles at the moment,(sorry for the bold I just thought this was an important message.) ^_^

I've gotten a good amount of battles on Nollan's server for this meta, and I'm glad to say I'm not disappointed. Sky Battles is an interesting, multifarious tier with many available styles of teambuilding and a lot of cool Pokémon to choose from, despite its very restricted cast. The meta's very friendly to setup, with Thundurus-T, Togekiss, the Lati Twins, and the Pixies Azelf, Mesprit, and Uxie highlighting a strong cast of special attackers. Dual Screens is also amazing in this tier, with Bronzong and the Lati Twins supporting the team with ease. Some defensive mons also get a new lease on life, such as Rotom-Heat, who has a fantastic niche as being one of the only true counters to Thundurus-T available, easily tanking anything it can throw at it, even after a boost, and proceeding to let off a Toxic or set up some SubSplitting shenanigans. The walls are on display as well: Skarmory, Bronzong, Uxie, Zapdos, and the cosmic duck Cressalia are there to absorb most (if not all) attacks in their wake.

I'm a really big fan of this tier, and I hope more people try it out for themselves!

WELCOME BACK SMOGON WHOOOOOOOO!!!
Oh my god...what a hiatus this has been! I've seriously missed this site A LOT!

Okay now that we're back it's time for me to update! Here is what I have for now, I hope you all enjoy these ;)

I got one more with PokeMoshPitBeta but that won't be for a while, so I'll link it once it's up!

Considering the fact that Game Freak is making a pet system thingy that encourages annoying hax, I doubt that they will ban anything except like ubers or something, so you guys might want to create a seperate metagame where you can make your own banlist if it comes down to that. I personally think that Stealth Rock is not that OP, since most pokemon will be levitaters (to balance typing synergy) and that a lot of walls like landorus and skarmory won't be taking much damage from them. Basically, your walls should be resistant or neutral to rock either way, since Rock is a fantastic typing in the meta. Stealth Rock won't really hinder your hard-hitters, since fast hard-hitters don't give a shit about whether they are at 100% or 75% hp. That is the reason as to why I don't think Stealth Rock should be banned (and I doubt that Game Freak will ban it officially anyways)

Also, where do I find a bunch of people that actually want to play this metagame? I have asked a few peeps on main server that i know, and I haven't managed to find more than 2 battles :|

Maybe people just don't have a team/don't know how to make one? I made a team recently but i'm only okay at actually battling/have work and am thus not on, so I've yet to use it. Maybe this could be of assistance?

OVER THE RAINBOW

Yo! Here's my half-arsed team I made for the Sky Battles tier! Note that I've never actually used it before, so the kinks are not ironed out - this is all theoretical stuff! Feel free to correct me or to suggest improvements for it as you see fit. My theme here is obviously rainbows - all of these Pokemon are ordered as they are according to a rainbow, and it even makes sense in the context of the tier's flavour. Sky battles. Geddit?
Hahaha yeah, I know I'm terrible. Anyway, onto my not so fabulous team!
Roja (Latias) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Roost
- Refresh
Here we have a combined tank/boosting sweeper[ish]/status absorber in the form of Latias. This Latias build is not meant to sweep right away; rather, it sets up when all of the opponent's checks [generally physical attackers] are gone or significantly weakened - then, it sets out to sweep. Calm Mind boosts her already great special stats to untouchable levels as the opposition fails to scratch her hide. Roost and Refresh allow her to boost through damage and laugh at attempts to stop her with toxic poison and other status, and Dragon Pulse is her STAB move of choice, with nothing immune to it and only two Pokemon in the tier resisting it, along with an acceptable 90 base power. Refresh can be exchanged for many things: Substitute can ease prediction and still can help it absorb status, but it cannot switch in to a status move if it lacks Refresh. Roar is great for phasing those that dare to set up alongside Latias, and Psyshock can be used to hit opponents on the physical side, as well as demolish Calm Minders.
Anaranjado (Rotom-Wash) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
With both of its STABs having great coverage and hitting like a monster in and outside of rain, it's no wonder this beast can do so well. Hydro Pump and Thunder are truly excellent, one having an unbelievable 240 base power when factoring in rain and STAB, while the latter will never miss, has an excellent 180 base power, as well as a 30% chance to paralyze. Volt Switch is great for keeping momentum on your side and does some nice damage in its own right, and Hidden Power Ice is a great choice for the dragons that resist Rotom's STAB attacks. The Choice Scarf allows Rotom to beat all of the unboosted metagame bar Ninjask and Crobat [which have no business staying in on Rotom], and allow it to function as an excellent revenge killer. It's also got respectable bulk in its own right, with its grass weakness being an uncommon attacking type in the tier - especially due to the abundance of flying types - so it can take a hit or two, though its crappy base 50 HP hurts it considerably in this regard. Trick can be used over Thunder if you want to cripple walls, though the amazing power, paralysis chance, and not being forced out in order to use an electric move will probably be missed. Choice Specs can also be used for downright incredible power, but this will cause Rotom to be worn out quickly by taking repeated attacks due to its decidedly average speed.
Amarillo (Zapdos) @ Damp Rock
Trait: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Roost
- Rain Dance
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Our first rain setter, and one that directly takes advantage of the rain it sets up, unlike the second. Zapdos can use its great base 125 Special Attack to its advantage here, firing off incredibly powerful Thunders, while smashing cheeky dragons or ground-types with its Hidden Power Ice. Roost is for added longevity - especially important given the fact that it is a rain setter, as well as weak to Stealth Rock.
Verde (Bronzong) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Stealth Rock
- Rain Dance
- Toxic
- Gyro Ball
The second rain setter, and one that is more defensively oriented. This guy takes normal and flying attacks - as well as most special ones - for days, as well as set up Stealth Rock. Toxic is also great for residual damage - especially on more bulky Pokemon or those that think they can just set up all over you. Rain Dance is mostly for the rest of the team, but it also helps Bronzong to stomach the fire attacks that may be thrown at it. Gyro Ball is so that Bronzong is not complete Taunt bait, and it can actually do some respectable damage, especially against faster foes. Leftovers could be replaced with a Damp Rock, but seeing as how Bronzong will have to switch into a lot of attacks and has no other method of recovery, I don't personally recommend it.
Azul (Gyarados) @ Choice Band
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Ice Fang
- Double-Edge
The hard-hitter, and backup physical tank if Bronzong is gone. Intimidate helps to cushion the blows from attackers, while max HP allows it to take more hits in general - max attack is to hit as hard as possible. The given set maximizes coverage and power, and will hit really hard even without the rain. It is, however, highly weak to the first member of the BoltBeam combo that is very potent in this tier, and Hidden Power Electric is very likely to become popular on many Pokemon to fry the flying types within - keep this in mind when playing with Gyarados.
Morado (Tornadus) @ Damp Rock
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Hasty Nature
- Rain Dance
- Hurricane
- Taunt
- U-turn
The final rain setter, this one uses his great ability in Prankster to avoid Taunts from fast foes, and is able to set up his rain first. Taunt also royally messes up possible leads like Skarmory and its supporting brethren, allowing Tornadus to not only set up relatively uninhibited [many such Pokemon are weak offensively], but also prevent a stray Thunder Wave or other status move from screwing over his teammates. The other two moves are fairly self-explanatory: Hurricane allows Tornadus to abuse his own rain with startling efficiency: STAB Hurricane coming off a base 125 Special Attack is no laughing matter. U-Turn allows Tornadus to escape its counters and tough situations in general if you'd like to save him for later - keep in mind that he won't be taking a hit anytime soon, however, with his rather middling bulk.
Note: I don't care if you change anything at all - movesets, nicknames, shininess [or lack of shininess], etc. I've always found asking people to do that to be a little... eh. Feel free to do what you like!

Roost is banned as far as I know.

Roost is not banned...it's up in the air :/
where is OP at anyway?
I hope he doesn't still think Smogon is down...

Nice team Shiruba seems really solid with Rain being an excellent play style at this point. I don't really understand Gyarados' role on the team. I would suggest to change Gyarados' ability to Moxie and play a more speedy spread. Or change the set to Bulky DDos. This will allow for you to either keep your hard hitting sweeper or have a Bulky Pivot.

Sorry for not being super active on this thread as I would like. Once more information about this metagame is released, I am sure that activity will pick up.

@Roost: It is not banned simply due to the lack of information that is released and the precedence that I set with other issues.

Y'all jokers must be crazy
I think Intimidate is still pretty good considering mons like Aerodactyl with Stone Edge. But yeah, Moxie's better on CB. I prefer bulky dos however.

Yeah, Roost'll definitely suck for Zapdos if it's banned in the future.
Latias can just run Recover so w/e same thing really.

Gyarados is mainly to be able to switch in and take a bit of punishment with the aid of its bulk and Intimidate before doing some smashing, but I agree that Gyarados was the last Pokemon on the team and more just a 'whatever' inclusion when I realized that I didn't actually have anything physically defensive [and I actually clicked the suggested spread on PS! because Smogon was down]. Didn't really think about it having to switch in and out a lot as a CB user - will change to the bulky set, though the fast banded one with Moxie I can definitely see doing really well.

Actually, now that I think about it, if it sets up like that it'll be wasting rain turns, right? Makes more sense for it to attack off the bat...

But wait, don't Choice users have to switch frequently, nullifying the Moxie boost?
Waaah so confused.

I'll honestly don't think Stealth Rock will be banned as the description speaks of "floating" stones, which will more or less still be effective once in the sky. Also, are pokemon who's predecessors are flying or have the ability levitate allowed in sky battles, like Scizor. If Scyther can fly, he doesn't "unlearn" how to fly through evolving. Also, what if a pokemon with access to the ability levitate, like Bronzong, uses a different ability, like Heatproof. Does it become banned if the dominant ability isn't levitate?
If so, won't natural flyers have the upper hand since they might actually have a useful ability, not just one that allows them into sky battles (they don't have to dodge any ground moves in the sky xD).

Just theorymoning, but I see Scizor being a great way to deal with Aerodactyl and Archeops.

I like your decisions Qwilphish, but I think this is more of a better change for this new type of play.

Here is what I have come up with right now, remember this is unofficial until Pokemon X/Y is out or the developers release the information on how it REALLY will work.

Sky Battle ruleset
by Qwilphish & b2j135
Weather is banned as a whole (too overpowered at the moment)
Entry Hazards are banned (their pointless and SR really holds back A LOT of Pokemon)
ONLY part Flying type Pokemon
or Pokemon with the ability Levitate
are allow to play. (This is officially from X/Y itself)
Air Balloon holding Pokemon do not count. (For now)
Banned Moves:
Stealth Rock
Spikes
Toxic Spikes
Gravity
Smack Down
Skill Swap
Entrainment
Gastro Acid
Simple Beam
Worry Seed
*Sky Drop (not sure how this would work in the real game so it's here for now)
Rain Dance
Sandstorm
Sunny Day
Hail
Once again, THIS IS UNOFFICIAL and will probably change as Sky Battling becomes more popular or until official release. Let me know what you guys think. Also I will be uploading more Sky Battles on my channel this week, I'll link it here once there up.
Also I made this sweet art for the metagame, could you post this to your OP Qwilphish?
I'm sorry about bringing this up again and I sinserely appologise, but why are spikes and t-spikes are banned in your ruleset if nothing in the meta is affected by them? it makes no sense.
BTW, I don't think of this as an official ruleset. I agree with Quilphish about bans in this meta.
