WELL Smogon won't lemme currently c/p everything, but I can link to the files where the data is stored - can't c/p changes since last month right now. Also,
This will likely be the very last usage-based tier change--with Gen VI coming in October, the consensus of the Smogon higher-ups was that it was about time to let the metagames settle into their final states. There may still be suspect tests, but (as far as I know) the tiers won't update any more based on usage. - Antar
Oh, and sorry FireMage I did it for you because you're working and idk when you'll get home and someone else might've stolen it by then! SO I DID IT WITH YOU IN MIND. ;_;
Anyway guys, discuss! Even though the stats are late news, etc.

These stats were definitely a bit odd, though overall based on my experiences on the ladder this last month, they look really accurate.

It is a bit odd to me that you have certain Pokemon, such as Armaldo, Gardevoir, Miltank, and Exeggutor, really high up there in usage, while others, such as Jynx, Scolipede, Seismitoad, and Carracosta, all sit pretty low down in comparison. Armaldo and co. aren't awful by any means, but I do find it interesting where they sit.

To be honest, with the trends of the ladder, I could see Choice Specs Exeggutor being a pretty huge threat there. Looking at the top 10 Pokemon in usage, the only one that wouldn't mind taking a Specs Leaf Storm /that/ much would be Sub Bulk Up Braviary, and even then:

252 SpAtk Choice Specs Exeggutor (+SpAtk) Leaf Storm vs 252 HP/192 SpDef Braviary (+SpDef) : 41.58% - 49.01% (3 hits to KO)

Of course, it can Roost off the damage, but then you can switch into an appropriate check on the Roost and force it out, while it still takes a little bit of damage from Stealth Rock + Leaf Storm.

On the note of Braviary, I'm really glad to see it higher up in usage this month. Sub Bulk Up is just such a good set. Something disheartening though is that it drops down from #9 to #20 when going from normal stats to 1850 stats. On top of that, it doesn't really look like people are using Sub Bulk Up much anyways:

Roost 36.897% | Bulk Up 30.612% | Substitute 23.617%

It's a great Pokemon all around though, and to me, all of its sets are still really effective in this metagame. Sub Bulk Up is just the best one.

these stats are terrible ngl. gardy should definitely not even be close to number 5 and should definitely be a lot lower (at least lower than jynx). jynx and scoli should easily be top two as they are the two biggest threats in the meta. carracosta and metang are so much lower than thy should be. one is possibly one of the most troublesome sweepers to deal with while the other is a great srer especially in this meta but i guess ladder knows best??? tauros also needs a lot more usage because it absolutely wrecks with like all of its sets. armaldo is just loved by the ladder which explains its high usage although it never succeeds in anything. also the drop of mushy is annoying because it is still as great of a mon as it was and should be in top ten pls ( mushhhy =[ ) but yeah these stats just really piss me off so hopefully theyll be better next month =)

also from the RU stats Golurk BARELY avoided becoming RU just by .02% so we are keeping him.

I don't get all this Gardevoir hate. Remember this is a ladder, and it is used for continuous battling, Gardevoir is much safer to use as a Psychic-type than Jynx. The ladder is full of crazy stuff, and Jynx's ice typing/fraity can end the ladder streak in surprising ways. Its also pretty damn decent as a choice user/calm mind sweeper cause it can actually switch in on attacks. Competively, for like tournaments, Jynx, is the better mon for obvious reasons (no tournament players run crappy random sets.... mostly), and continuity isnt much of a problem. For laddering purposes, Gardevoir gets the job done. Now Jynx is better for the hyper-offensive ladder teams due to its coverage, but...
hyperoffense..................12.97054%
The more bulky teams become, the greater chance Jynx will fail you.
And, of course, now that Mandibuzz is in the tier, all this knowledge is wasted cause that bitch shut Gardevoir down.

Garde's T-Bolt deals solid damage to Mandibuzz imho.

252 SpA Expert Belt Gardevoir Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Mandibuzz: 180-214 (42.55 - 50.59%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

There's no point in running Shadow Ball + Focus Blast coverage with Garde since Jynx can do it too and is better at it, and as such, T-Bolt + Signal Beam is way to go if you are really adamant about using Offensive Gardevoir instead of Jynx, and you can run whatever floats your boat in the fourth slot, from a support move to HP Ground. Garde can also run a good defensive set unlike Jynx.

Jynx even has Ice Beam to dispatch of Mandibuzz. Mandibuzz is good, but can't safely switch into either.

Musharna at #19 is what really disappoints me. Even with Scolipede, Jynx, and everything new being able to get around her, she is still an absolutely amazing pivot wall sweeper thing. She still comfortably walls half the tier and has Baton Pass in order to gain momentum against anything that can switch in (including Mandibuzz but that isnt relevant for this thread). Musharna is a staple on every single one of my good teams because of the vast amount of things she can do.

Weezing all the way down at #38 also makes me sad, hes such a cool mon. His attacking movepool is quite diverse (Fire, electric, poison), and he has great bulk to tank most physical hits in the tier (best Golurk counter imo). Weezing as a bulky special attacker is a lot of fun, because people like to switch bulky Waters in jsut to get smashed by Tbolt. GG NU.

I'm not sure why Lovely Kiss is only at 67%, it's one of the defining moves of Jynx's sets =/

Armaldo | #4 in NU | Usage: 12.74307%
lol

Gardevoir | #5 in NU | Usage: 11.84788%
Gardevoir isn't bad with Jynx around, as it can use support stuff that Jynx can't, however Jynx is a lot better lol this should definitely be lower.

I'd imagine that Lovely Kiss is low because of ScarfJynx. Though I always use lk on it, I can see it being dropped in favour of trick or focus blast on certain teams. Generally you choose two of those 3 moves, and i like trick + lk, but trick + focus blast is viable too. It isn't enough to account for all of it, but at least there are a few viable sets without lk!

also on scarf - trick/lovely kiss, ice beam, psyshock, and energy ball is also kinda viable although it looks really stupid but it works if youre weak to opposing jynx and scarf costa or toad (scarf jynx = only jynx ;])

Gardevoir is ok I guess because it's kind of a "jack of all trades" kind of Pokemon. Still packs a lot of power, decent speed, pretty good support movepool, and ok bulk. However I don't understand why it's #5, when Jynx is objectively better with offensive sets (amazing dual STAB in this metagame, Lovely Kiss, excellent speed, Nasty Plot instead of Calm Mind, and an immunity to a common type), and Musharna is better as a bulky pivot (Baton Pass is excellent for building momentum even if you don't pass anything). The majority of people use Leftovers on Gardevoir, but the move usage is kind of all over the place (except for Psychic being on almost every Gardevoir as expected). I just really don't know what people see in it, but unfortunately like Armaldo, the majority of people using it are random people on the ladder who don't ever post. If you use it, feel free to chime in on what exactly you use it for.

Carracosta being #41 NU / #40 1850 is absolutely disgraceful, it's a versatile offensive Pokemon that forces a ton of switches, and pairs well with common Pokemon that can take advantage of its weaknesses (Scolipede pairs excellently, since it resists everything that costa is weak to with the exception of Ground, and then can set up Spikes which help Carracosta even more).

I still don't see the appeal of Eelektross (and to an extent Ampharos) in this metagame. Eelektross really has a hard time effectively using its bulk because of its dearth of resistances (only resists Electric, Steel, Flying, with a Ground immunity) and low speed. Sure, it can tank a hit, but against offensive teams it gets 2hko'd by almost all major threats before it gets a chance to attack. Sure, if you can get it in on something that can't touch it, like a CB Golurk locked into EQ or something, then it can do some damage, and yeah it can rip up slower teams. I'd rather use Specs Eggy for that though, since at least with Specs Eggy I know that something is going to either die or get severely crippled.

I agree with Annoyer and Raseri. (I even liked their posts :toast:) The stats are wack, with lol Armaldo at #4 when it should probably be around in the 50's. Other mons like Carracosta and Metang are also way too low. :koko:

I've been saying this for a while, but I do not understand why Musharna lost as much usage as it did. It's still just as good as its always been, with Scolipede obviously being unable to switch into a Psychic as well as being unable to stay alive all that long to be able to Megahorn it(Which doesn't even KO) The more offensive sets don't last nearly as long as the bulkier sets (Sash or LO) and the bulky Spiker doesn't hit Musharna as hard. Baton Pass is also really good on Musharna, I've been using it on all my Mushy sets be it CM Pass, Twave Pass, or Hypnosis Pass, and it's really good for gaining momentum. With Skuntank being the only real Dark-type used (outside of SHIFTRY while mandibuzz come penes) and it using a good amount of Special Defense EVs for Jynx, Signal Beam isn't as useful anymore. Musharna rules, use it more.

Regarding Armaldo, I would say that a lot of that usage reflects from the overall level of competence in the NU ladder. Seeing as most players there aren't very competitive and are at best average, this level of play usually falls under the philosophy of Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin being among the best form of support there is for a single Pokemon despite that not usually being the case. This makes Armaldo at a first glance seem better than it really is when the only situation of which it will get a Rapid Spin off is when spinblockers are present is by going a fully offensive route with Swords Dance if it wants any hopes of breaking through them. All of the Ghost types are also capable of getting off a reasonably strong hit on Armaldo before it can manage to get past them as well, which means that is isn't too difficult to pick off Armaldo if it has killed off that Ghost-type and it'll either get revenge killed by something reasonably powerful or forced out. Factoring its Stealth Rock weakness and abysmal Speed, oftentimes making it too slow to actually get off a good spin most of the time. As a Stealth Rock user, it's not even that great because it loses to almost off of the opposing setters 1v1 as well and has a general lack of useful resistances in comparison to them. I agree that the usage statistics are definitely overselling its value.

The low usage of Carracosta strikes me as well. Carracosta is still one of the deadliest setup sweepers today and is the main reason of Choice Scarf Jynx's recent rise of popularity. It's also able to force a lot of switches, break though several defensive cores, and sports nice synergy with Pokemon with crippling weaknesses and vice-versa as you stated. I guess this has a lot to do with people constant trying to use Carracosta as a utility check rather than an outright sweeper, as evidenced by the bashing in the past.

As for Eelektross, I think that's where you're going a little wrong on since it seems to me that you're trying to use that as a utility check rather than a wall-breaker that provides momentum. You shouldn't really focus on switching it in to threats so much unless you can take advantage of them by virtue of its typing and ability. Sure Choice Specs Exeggutor hits immediately harder right off the bat, but Eelektross isn't as easily taken advantage of should you mis-predict at the wrong time due to Eelektross' ability to beat most Electric- immune Pokemon 1v1, making it much safer for Eelektross to utilize its STAB and coverage moves. Eelektross also pairs incredibly well with offensive threats that appreciates the momentum it provides, which includes a lot of other offensive Pokemon that can reliably threaten special walls that it cannot touch or activating Guts/free switch of any kind.

Speaking of Jynx....

<TIBot> Ice Beam 98.374% | Psychic 71.283% | Lovely Kiss 67.399% | Nasty Plot 38.248% | Substitute 35.266% | Focus Blast 27.052% | Trick 20.926% | Energy Ball 12.627% | Shadow Ball 11.674% | Other 17.153%
Lovely Kiss being used less than 70% of the time is quite a depressing feat. Being able to cripple something in the form of sleep is something that most teams are hard-pressed to prepare for as that's an essential OHKO on a possible member, especially considering the offensive nature of the metagame. This is why it is generally considered to be Jynx's best move, despite the possibility of missing which isn't at all sufficient of an argument to oppose the move. I understand that Choice Scarf Jynx is used approximately all of the time that Lovely Kiss is not used, but it should be taken account that not ALL Choice Scarf Jynx aren't using Lovely Kiss; it's actually a potent move on Choice Scarf Jynx for the same reason it is on pretty much every other set since it can help Jynx cripple its counters.

Just my 2 cents here. I agree with everyone about Musharna, and it doesn't make much sense to dismiss it just because of a Pokemon that can't even switch in.

First off, I agree with the obvious: Armaldo sux, Musharna is way lower than it should be, Gardevoir's way higher than it should be, etc.

One thing I noticed that's MUCH lower than it should be is Kangaskhan. Kanga's one of the best mons in NU right now, with dat (Scrappy) Fake Out + Sucker Punch combo making it pretty much the best revenge killer in the entire meta. It's an absolute terror to offensive teams, and has great bulk to boot. And it's sitting all the way down at #25? Lower than troll cat Liepard, for crying out loud. Shame on you, NU ladder, just... shame on you. :(

Joining the Musharna bandwagon, even though it's no longer the best and most dominant Pokemon in the tier, Musharna is still really good. I guess Scolipede and Jynx give it a little of a hard time, but it's still a great tank, taking hits and hitting hard. BP Musharna is also fantastic, I run Musharna's cookie cutter CM set it's always run, with BP instead of Heal Bell, and aside from still being a bitch to take down, passing CM boosts to things like Special Samurott is just fantastic.

Regarding Armaldo, the best to describe how it performs in NU is the "Sandslash/Claydol of NU". Armaldo is quite literally the worst Rapid Spinner in NU, and although it's not the worst Pokemon in its tier like Sandslash and Claydol are, it sucks at Rapid Spinning and 99% of the time it won't be able to pull off that spin. It will lose to pretty much all of the spinblockers and has a horrid defensive typing in general, Torkoal and Wartortle are much better, being able to actually check shit while the latter has guaranteed spins with Foresight. Yeah Wartortle and Torkoal have their flaws but I'd say Armaldo is easily the worst of the lot, which obviously means like in any tier that the ladder uses it way more for some reason.

Kangaskhan and Carracosta should be Top 10 easily, they're fantastic in this metagame (they ain't S-Rank for no reason!).

Idg why people use Gardevoir when it's so badly outclassed by Jynx and Musharna, not to mention Scolipede shits on it and Primeape and Sawk deal with it easily anyways.

Yeah, Gardy unfortunately has the short end of the stick on just about everything now that Jynx is around too. It doesn't have good enough bulk to really perform well as a bulky Psychic-type like Mushy, it isn't fast enough to compete with the most dangerous threats in the game... While it does have the sheer power to break through defensive Pokemon and the movepool to lure stuff like Skuntank, it's really taken a huge hit now that the metagame is so much faster than it, and it doesn't have the bulk to reasonably be useful. This happened to several other Pokemon that have dropped in usefulness too imo, like Braviary and Zangoose. Certainly, both are still good and merit a place on a well-built team, but just don't have the proper speed to be as useful as they were before. They probably shouldn't be as high as they are in these usage stats.

I'm glad Eggy's getting a lot of love. I love an offensive Substitute set, which has a ton of opportunities in this meta and it's really nice to be able to sub up on something like Golurk or Alomomola and then nail the Scolipede or Jynx or whatever that comes in afterwards. You can also stack Sleep Powder on there to give you a free shot at sleeping incoming Skuntanks, or even HP Ground or Nature Power if you feel like it. Also, not really sure how Miltank is still clinging to top 15 status. I don't really think that either are that particularly good in this metagame; while Miltank is a fuckload of usefulness, it feels hard to fit into teams without being a dead weight in most games. Fast Miltank is weak, and slow Miltank is really susceptible to stuff like Golurk or Gurdurr or even Primeape, all of whom are excellent Pokemon in this current metagame imo.

I really think standard Scarf Jynx should be Psy(shock/chic) / Ice Beam / Trick / Lovely Kiss unless you are particularly weak to something that merits Focus Blast or Energy Ball. LK is just too fckn good to pass up even on Scarf Jynx, especially since it means offensive teams can put two Pokemon out of commission instead of just one.

Maybe I'm bandwagon-ing, but I agree with all this surprise about Gardevoir and Armaldo being so high up and Musharna, Jynx, and Misdreavus so low in comparison. Since everyone already posted about this, I don't feel the need to comment more on that. On a different subject, Haunter and Charizard being higher up than Jynx (10, 11, and 13 respectively for all those who don't want to look up) is a bit surprising. The 1850 stats show a surprisingly large drop in usage in comparison (Haunter being 18 and Charizard being 24, while Jynx rises to number 4), so perhaps it is merely the general ladder being a rather inadequate challenge (ignoring hax I guess). Now both of these Pokemon have good Speed, hitting and exceeding the base 95 benchmark. They also have a lot of good traits that help them make a niche in the current metagame (good STABs, Speed, decent power, and immunity to both Spikes). However, Haunter is undeniably frail and can't even be used as a reliable spinblocker (though a great pivot switch in those situations); it is also not quite fast enough to handle all the fast threats (and risks a Speed tie with Jynx and Primeape). Charizard can handle the new base 95 tier well (unless they are Scarfed), but it dislikes the rise of Carracosta and the occasional Scolipede with Aqua Tail/Rock Slide. Stealth Rocks aren't as great a problem thanks to Blaze. However, losing half its health does make it far more vulnerable to priority from the likes of Kangaskhan and Samurott. I AM horrified that 42% of people keep 4 HP on Charizard, but seeing as the moveset stats don't tell us the IVs, I will give the ladder the benefit of the doubt.

I want to know everyone's thoughts on Miltank being as high as number 12. Maybe it's me, but I don't see why it is so good in this metagame. While it is fast enough to set up Rocks before CB Sawk KOes it, you basically are better off doing what you would do with a slower SR setter and just switch to your Sawk counter (negating the main reason imo). As an offensive Normal-type, I prefer Kangaskhan as a Scrappy Pokemon, Sawsbuck as a Sap Sipper, and Tauros as a fast attacker. Likewise, I prefer Lickilicky as a Special wall and cleric. Perhaps it is the fact that it has 3 completely different abilities that can create mind-games to make your opponent more cautious, but I hardly feel that is worth it. But any thoughts on the cow?

I still don't see the appeal of Eelektross (and to an extent Ampharos) in this metagame. I'd rather use Specs Eggy for that though, since at least with Specs Eggy I know that something is going to either die or get severely crippled.

I've used Eelektross a lot lately, and based a lot on team matchup, it either wrecks or does jack all.

Against more balanced/defensively inclined teams, it's a serious threat. With awesome mixed attacking stats and great coverage, it's probably one of the hardest Pokemon to wall in the tier. This is the main reason to use it, in my opinion. If you just slap it onto an offensive team and expect it to work wonders, it probably won't; while it works fine on offensive teams, when it's one of the only Pokemon on your team that can take a hit or two, it's going to end up dying fast, and you should probably just use something else in that slot that either a. bulkier, b. better at keeping up offensive momentum, or c. both.

The problem is playing with it against offensive teams. It's really hard to find a free switch for Eelektross against offensive teams, especially when coming in on a revenge kill doesn't do much since you'll be outsped by whatever you come in on almost 100% of the time.

I do find Eelektross to be really effective right now. I do not, however, think that it's going to be able to perform consistently well in comparison to many other offensive threats in the tier.

I actually prefer Miltank over Sawsbuck as a Sap Sipper. Superior bulk, reliable recovery and a bit more speed edges Miltank over the deer Pokemon as a SS mon for me. Most people will expect the standard Thick Fat support/cleric 'mon and not a LO SS powerhouse so I've found it easy to get in SS boosts. Even without a boost, a LO, Double-Edge/Return coming from Miltank hurts a lot of 'mons.

Zangoose at 28 is a shame. Personally, I think he's the most underrated, underused Pokemon in the tier. Although frail, Zangoose is ultra strong once Toxic kicks in. Access to perfect coverage, priority and a solid speed stat make Zangoose an excellent late-game cleaner and something that should not be underestimated.

Regirock at 57 is depressing. It's titanic defenses and the ability to set-up Rocks and spread paralysis should warrant more usage. Even mons like Scolipede and Kangaskhan that have coverage moves to hit Regirock never OHKO and Regirock can fire back with a T-Wave.

Speaking of T-Wave support, and echoing what others have said, Mushara should definitely get more usage. The damn thing is bulky as hell and can support your team with screens, paralysis and/or Heal Bell. Musharana is easily one of, if not the best pivot in the tier.

Everyone should stop using Alomomola I can't ladder properly.

Just comparing the normal and 1850 stats, personally for me the 1850 stats give me much more realistic interoperation of how the metagame is (and is more realistic towards what you'd expect to encounter) I mean I encountered next to no Armaldo. (But that's the ladder for you!)

Zangoose at 28 is a shame. Personally, I think he's the most underrated, underused Pokemon in the tier. Although frail, Zangoose is ultra strong once Toxic kicks in. The problem is with Zangoose, whilst yes it's a great mon - even late game It's still frail and the Toxic poison doesn't help it's situation. It oes sit at a good speed tier (although still outsped by Primeape, Jynx, Rotom-A)

Two mons that I've been finding incredibly useful are MANtine and Tauros.

I've been using the SubToxic set that FLCL posted in Next best thing and encourage you all to try it. It has a fairly easy time getting in, setting up the sub and proceed to either Toxic the switch in or begin attacking right off of the bat.

Tauros is an excellent mon, Both Intimidate and Sheer Force have merits. I'm using intimidate to further increase his ability to take Physical hits. I'm using a scarf variant and yes, at some times the power output seemed a little low - and found that I could have just used a band, but it still made up for it by outspeeding a good portion of the meta and excellently revenge killing some key threats.

And I wanted Ditto and Wartortle in PU. NU players foolishly continue to use them even after a million times that we've told them that they are horrible in NU. Wartortle fails to spin, eats an Explosion from Golem and gets taunted by Missy. That Gigalith rise also shouldn't have happened, it's outclassed by Carracosta, Golem and Regirock. Also STOP USING ARMALDO. Missy hard counters it, and if you're a spinner that is hard countered by an A-Rank spinblocker, then you have a problem. Why are Scolipede and Missy so low? They both deserve Top 10.

Wartortle is easily the most reliable spinner available (and probably the best by far); if you fail to spin with it then you are either playing a team with multiple Ghost-types or playing pretty badly. Criticisms of it were largely incorrect and it's far better than "lol weak and can't spin" that was attributed to it a long time ago. Armaldo was already discussed and I agree with you on Gigalith, but the whole tone of this post is really aggressive and doesn't contribute to the discussion beyond just yelling your opinions to the sky. Could you try to back up your opinions with reasoning and experience next time? Thanks, ya.

Honestly yeah the Wartortle hate is getting pretty overrated. It is actually the best spinner in NU (akin to his evolution's role in UU), because it has guaranteed spins and has the typing to have useful synergy with the Pokemon that would like hazards off the field, such as Rotom-S, Jynx, and Scolipede. On Gigalith, yeah it's outclassed but it can be used to a degree of effect, it's not completely terrible.

Wartortle is the best spinner, but it cannot even be closed to compared to Blastoise in UU. It definitely has a niche and works especially well on Stall, but the main problem (and the reason it gets so much hate) is because some people on the ladder tend to just slap it on any random team. Basically using the slot for a Pokemon that isn't required (Rotom-S, Jynx, and Scolipede doesn't really need Spin support, although it can be nice) and without the proper support or an actual need for it, it will tend to disappoint. Like I said, Wartortle is actually really nice on Stall for a few reasons: 1)Defensive teams tend to switch around a lot and with Scolipede providing quick easy Spikes (especially if your Stall is facing a Bulky Spiker), having a reliable way to remove entry hazards with its Foresight Spin is a godsend. 2)Stall inherently provides the perfect support for Wartortle to achieve--Wish and Heal Bell. 3)At the same time Wartortle also supports Stall with its ability to use Haze legally with Rapid Spin, unlike Tentacool.(Wartortle also has superior all around bulk and doesn't compound weaknesses with Spikers)
