Togetic (QC 3/3) [GP 2/2]

credit to soulgayzer for skeleton

[Overview]
 • Nasty Plot and Baton Pass.
 • Not the best typing ever.
 • Easy to 2HKO with Stealth Rock.
 • Rely on Eviolite to be bulky, so it is easy to wear down.
 • Unlike Volbeat, Togetic has a slow Baton Pass that allows to bring its teammates safely. CM Pass Musharna and Mr. Mime also gives Togetic competition.
 • Unlike other Baton Pass users, Togetic is able to remove its recipient's counter with its huge movepool.
 • Quite bulky on the special side.

[SET]
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Roost
move 4: Hyper Voice / Fire Blast
item: Eviolite
ability: Serene Grace
nature: Calm
evs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Nasty Plot to boost Togetic's Special Attack and potentially pass the boost to a teammate.
 • Baton Pass lets Togetic pass boosts and can also bring momentum on your side.
 • Roost to recover health.
 • Hyper Voice is Togetic's most reliable STAB as Tri Attack is illegal with Nasty Plot, leaves it walled by Ghost-types though.
 • Fire Blast is strong, and while it is not STAB, it lets Togetic hit Ghost-types while nailing Metang quite hard. It can also help to remove the recipient's counter.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • Physically defensive spread 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpDef with a Bold nature.
 • Steel-types such as Metang and Probopass.
 • Special Attacker that will enjoy getting the Nasty Plot boost from Togetic, such as Samurott, Charizard, and Serperior.
 • Seismitoad works well with Togetic as it is immune to Electric-type attacks while Togetic resists Grass-type attacks and can set up a Nasty Plot on the Grass-types that force Seismitoad out. Seismitoad can also be a receiver.

[Other Options]
 • Shadow Ball, Grass Knot, and Signal Beam.
 • Togetic can easily ditch Baton Pass and Nasty Plot to use support moves such as Encore, Heal Bell, Magic Coat, Toxic, and Thunder Wave if your team doesn't need it to pass Nasty Plot.
 • Yawn, Wish, and Tailwind.
 • Ancientpower, Silver Wind, Ominous Wind
 • Hustle.
 • ?????

[Checks and Counters]
 • Electric-types such as Eelektross, Rotom-Spin, and Electabuzz.
 • Rock-types such as Golem, Carracosta, and Regirock.
 • Phazers such as Bastiodon, and Misdreavus with Perish Song.
 • Taunt users such as Misdreavus, Mandibuzz, and Serperior.
 • Piloswine.
 • Strong physical attacker such as Sawk can easily beat Togetic.
 • Status.

[Overview]

Togetic has access to two moves that give it a niche in NU: Nasty Plot and Baton Pass. While Pokemon like Volbeat, Mr. Mime, and Musharna give Togetic fierce competition as a Baton Passer of Special Attack boosts, there are a few reasons to use Togetic over them. Unlike Volbeat, Togetic has a slow Baton Pass that allows it to bring in its teammates safely, without them taking damage. Togetic is also quite specially bulky, so it can take repeated hits while recovering them off with Roost. Other Baton Pass users have trouble dealing with their recipient's counters, but Togetic can deal with them relatively easily thanks to its large movepool. Togetic's typing isn't great, as it gives weaknesses to common types such as Ice and Rock. The weakness to Rock also makes it fairly easy to 2HKO after the damage from Stealth Rock. Togetic relies on Eviolite for its bulk, so it is easy to wear down.

[SET]
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Roost
move 4: Hyper Voice / Fire Blast
item: Eviolite
ability: Serene Grace
nature: Calm
evs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Nasty Plot boosts Togetic's mediocre Special Attack and can potentially be passed on to a teammate to give them an opportunity to sweep or do some big damage to the opposing team. Baton Pass lets Togetic pass Nasty Plot boosts, as well as giving your team some momentum and allowing Togetic to act as a useful pivot. Roost recovers health to increase Togetic's longevity, and also helps alleviate the lack of passive recovery from Leftovers. Hyper Voice is the most reliable STAB option, as Tri Attack is illegal with Nasty Plot. However, it leaves Togetic completely walled by Ghost-types. Fire Blast is a strong alternative, and while it is not STAB, it lets Togetic hit Ghost-types and Pokemon weak to Fire such as Metang and Exeggutor. It can also help in removing the Baton Pass recipient's counter.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

248 HP is used to leave Togetic with some health after switching into Stealth Rock 4 times. Specially defensive Togetic is the optimal spread, as it allows Togetic to check many special attackers, including Serperior, Charizard, and Samurott. A physically defensive spread using 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD can be run, using a Bold nature. This makes Togetic a good check against Pokemon like Primeape. Steel-types such as Metang and Probopass act as good partners, as they resist Ice and Rock, while Togetic is immune to Ground. Any special attacker that appreciates a Nasty Plot boost is a good partner. Examples include Charizard, Samurott, and Serperior. Serperior works particularly well as it has a fast Taunt to disable opposing Taunt users that would otherwise stop Togetic from setting up and passing boosts. Seismitoad works very well with Togetic as it is immune to Electric-type attacks and also deals with Rock-types very well. Togetic resists Grass-type moves and can set up Nasty Plots in the Grass-types that force Seismitoad out. Seismitoad can also receive Nasty Plot boosts to open up a potential sweep. Electric-types also appreciate Nasty Plot boosts, while resisting Electric-type attacks often aimed at Togetic and beating Mandibuzz, which is annoying to Togetic.

[Other Options]

Togetic has a very large movepool that it can make use of. Coverage moves include Shadow Ball, Grass Knot, and Signal Beam, each of which takes care of a specific group of threats. Togetic can choose not to use Nasty Plot and Baton Pass if it's not needed for your team, and use its wide range of support moves instead, such as Encore, Heal Bell, Magic Coat, Toxic, and Thunder Wave. It also gets Yawn, Wish, and Tailwind to act as a very useful support Pokemon. The combination of Yawn and Baton Pass can be used to gain momentum very easily, as the opponent will likely switch out after the use of Yawn, so you can Baton Pass for the switch advantage and easy momentum. Togetic has access to Light Screen and Reflect for a dual screens set, but running Light Clay over Eviolite takes away from its bulk too significantly, and not using Light Clay means it is outclassed by other dual screen users. You can choose to simply run a specially defensive walling set, with Tri Attack, Roost, and two support moves. Togetic can utilize the combination of Serene Grace and moves such as AncientPower, Silver Wind, and Ominous Wind to get +1 in every stat, but this tactic is unreliable and the moves themselves are very weak, so it's generally not worth using. Hustle can be used on a physical set, but Togetic is rather weak physically, so is better off supporting or attacking on the special side.

[Checks and Counters]

Phazers such as Bastiodon can stop Togetic from passing Nasty Plot boosts. Misdreavus with Perish Song can put Togetic on a timer, and force it to directly switch instead of using Baton Pass. Taunt users such as Misdreavus, Mandibuzz, and Serperior can shut down Togetic, stopping it from using any non-attacking moves. Mandibuzz commonly runs Taunt, Whirlwind, or both, so it is a big problem. It also doesn't take much even from a boosted Tri Attack or Fire Blast. Misdreavus can use both Taunt and Perish Song, as well as being immune to Tri Attack and bulky enough to take any coverage move Togetic may carry. Electric- and Rock-types, such as Eelektross, Golem, Carracosta, and Electabuzz, can deal with Togetic effectively thanks to their strong super effective STAB moves. Piloswine can take any attack, and use Ice Shard to prevent a Baton Pass or phaze with Roar. Piloswine can also do a lot of damage to Togetic with its strong Ice STAB moves. Strong physical attackers such as Sawk and Zangoose can easily beat Togetic through its mediocre physical defense.

You should probably explain why exactly Togetic is running a Specially Defensive spread since you only talk about what the alternative spread checks in AC.

You might add something about Togetic's access to dual screens to oo?

Or try a set such as:

[SET]
name: Support
move 1: Hyper Voice/ Fire Blast
move 2: Toxic/Thunder Wave/Heal Bell
move 3: Reflect
move 4: Light Screen
item: Eviolite/Light Clay
ability: Serene Grace
nature: Calm
evs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Running Light Clay restricts access to Eviolite which sacrifices extra bulk whilst setting up. Dual screens can be useful for setting up other pokemon such as Jynx or Braviary. Hyper Voice is the reliable stab option, Fire Blast can be preferred so that Togetic isn't walled by ghost types and for pokemon such as Exeggutor and Tangela; weak to fire and often physically defensive. Toxic and Thunder Wave speak for themselves, Toxic can be helpful to wear down walls like Torkoal and Thunder Wave can be helpful to allow your slower, bulkier pokemon to deal more damage, for example Gurdurr or Musharna!

Hope this was useful.

I find odd this sentence in the Overview:

"Other Baton Pass users have trouble dealing with their recipient's counters, but Togetic can deal with them relatively simply thanks to its large movepool."

It may have a large movepool, however, the main attacking option in the set is just a Normal-type attack, so, you know, there isn't exactly great coverage thanks to Togetic's movepool when using just a Normal-type attack.

I would say that Dual Screen at best should get a small mention in OO with its other support options (may before/in place of Magic Coat). Without Eviolite, Togetic kind of loses its niche of great bulk. Without Light Clay, it becomes rather outclassed by other Dual Screeners such as Gardevoir and Ampharos since it really has no niche to distinguish itself. I also agree with Alonsoforever about the large movepool comment, when you only really list Hyper Voice and Fire Blast in the set and AC. If you want to make that claim, I would at least make note of some especially useful options in AC. Otherwise, I would change the sentence to something like "Togetic also distinguishes itself from similar Baton Pass users with its wide offensive movepool, which allows Togetic to customize it's offensive move to target specific Pokemon that would otherwise trouble its recipients." or a similar idea.

[Overview]
Mention Mr. Mime alongside Volbeat when talking about a slow Baton Pass, since it's not exactly slow either (uninvested base 90 still outpaces most defensive and many offensive Pokes).

[SET COMMENTS]
Add "mediocre" before "Special Attack" in the first sentence. The rest of the sentence makes it sound a bit too much like Baton Passing is just an afterthough, when in reality the goal is mostly to Baton Pass Nasty Plots while attacking is just something you do when you have to. Point out that Roost also helps alleviate Togetic's lack of passive recovery from Leftovers.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
Serperior might deserve a bigger mention as it can afford to run Taunt to deal with most other common Taunt users and phazers. Jynx can sleep something and appreciates the ability to run a coverage move or Substitute while still having extraordinary power. Electric-types such as Electrode and Electabuzz should get a mention, being able to come in on the Electric moves Togetic hates and being able to threaten Mandibuzz most notably.

[Other Options]
I guess you can mention that a special wall set with Tri Attack, Roost, and a choice of two support moves can be used if you don't wish to pass Nasty Plots.

[Checks and Counters]
Move the mention of its electric and ice weaknesses towards the end, right before the mention of physical attackers. The main reason you are using Togetic is to make use of Baton Pass, not be a wall. This should be emphasized in CC with Taunt and phazers being the top mentions to prevent that. I would remove status, as it doesn't particularly hinder Togetic more than any other Pokemon (actually, it's better that Togetic takes the status move rather than the recipient). Mandibuzz should get a huge mention, as it commonly runs one of Taunt or Whirlwind and doesn't take enough damage even from boosted Hyper Voices/Fire Blasts. Misdreavus should get the next significant mention, being immune to Hyper Voice, commonly carrying Taunt or Perish Song, and being bulky enough to take almost every common coverage move Togetic may carry. The reason Jynx and Piloswine are specifically mentioned out of all other Ice-types is because Jynx can prevent Togetic from Baton Passing due to Lovely Kiss/Trick, while Piloswine can tank any move, and use Ice Shard and/or even Roar to either prevent it from passing or erasing its boosts.

Watch out for those serial commas, 2/2!

Fire Blast is a strong alternative, and while it is not STAB, it lets Togetic hit Ghost-types and Fire-weak Pokemon such as Metang and Exeggutor.
i kept this as Pokemon weak to Fire as it conveys what I'm saying better. Some Pokemon may not be weak to the Fire type, but don't do well against Fire-types, and I would classify them as "Fire-weak".

[/quote]Misdreavus can use both Taunt and Perish Song, as well as immune to Tri Attack and bulky enough to take any coverage move Togetic may carry.[/quote]
this one just makes no sense lol reread it, im keeping 'being' between as and immune.

did the rest tho n_n thx this is done

You should say Pokemon that don't do well with Fire-types if that's what you meant.
About that, I think I typoed but the sentence still isn't right. It should be 'as well as is immune' but that's weird-sounding, so you can change that to 'and' if you wish.

ok yeah ill change that to and is immune when I get on a computer.
I did mean mons weak to fire moves, but I was saying that the correction you gave made it seem like I was talking about mons that just don't do well against fire.

Oh, lol. Nop, Fire-weak means mons weak to Fire and nothing else. That was because I felt it flowed better with that sentence.
