Competitive Use: Boosts the defensive capabilities of the ever-bulky eviolite Duskull while also giving it an unforgettable niche in being able to cast a priority and trapping curse upon the foe.
Change Nature Power from Shadow Sneak to Shadow Ball. Starting from XY, Nature Power always summons a special move. Plus, the Shadow Sneak priority does not carry over onto Nature Power

EDIT: change the summoner (the one with the surge) to a fully evolved pokemon.

PP is still deducted, and the moves can still be selected. Think of this as putting the field into a temporary state of lockdown, where nothing can be changed except for the terrain.
Effect 2: Pokemon have 25% less evasion.
Attack: Rhydon, Conkeldurr, Magneton, Magnezone, Probopass, Forretress, Excadrill, Machamp
Seed: Cement seed
Seed effect: Defense +1
Justification: Rock moves are inaccurate. Hence a terrain that makes them more accurate. Nothing much to say here. I mainly designed this for Rhydon, which loves accurate Megahorns and Stone Edges.

Moves that target the opponent's side of the field: Spikes, Stealth Rock, Sticky Web, Toxic Spikes
Moves that target the user's side of the field: Aurora Veil, Light Screen, Lucky Chant, Mist, Reflect, Safeguard, Tailwind
Non-weather/terrain moves that target the entire field: Fairy Lock, Gravity, Haze, Ion Deluge, Magic Room, Trick Room, Water Sport, Wonder Room
Moves that have a secondary effect that targets part of the field: Brick Break/Psychic Fangs (Damage is dealt but screens are not removed), Rapid Spin(Damage is dealt but hazards are not removed), Defog(Evasion is dropped but hazards/screens are not removed)

Nice suggestions however z terrain moves only boost a stat by one stage and only one pokemon may get the surge ability (I suggest Rhyperior that's more viable.

Competitive Use: Allows some slower water-types to go at jet speed against most non-grounded foes. Not only as that, Terrains and Weathers are stackable, so if you are up to having Pelipper + Wailord + Samurott (See below), you have a pretty scarry team, even if monotype. Wailord can take some hits due to high HP so it is a reliable setter (Or rather, semi due to no recovery).
Special: Samurott has it's HA substituted by Surge Samurai (Under Aquatic Terrain (Or any winning water terrain) atk and sp. atk are doubled). If possible Golisopod too, but if only one is allowed leave it for Samurott

Competitive Use: First things first I don't think Burning the foe at the ending of every turn is as effective as having a free chip damage effect. If foe doesn't change the terrain (And if it doesn't receive any damage by other means) it will have lost 60% of it's max HP. Considering we're talking about okay partners , including Magmortar (see below), and Magcargo also has okay defensive stats, and Recover. Also Stealth Rock.
Special: Magmortar gains Magma Diver. This boosts the mon's Speed and Sp. Atk by 1.5% under Fiery Terrain


Other changes:
- Meganium gains Grass Pelt as HA
- Electivire gains Shock Surfer. This boosts the mon's Speed and Atk by 1.5% under Electric Terrain

Made the other changes, but if possible I'd like to keep both Rhydon and Rhyperior since I thought we'd be giving the ability to the whole line. Kinda like BW Vulpix having Drought.
 
Sorry, that's the rule. When we get to Stage 3 though, you can give Rhydon an ability that interacts with Stony Terrain though (like Grass Pelt or Surge Surfer).

This is just in general, but for terrains that affect moves, please state whether the effect happens if the USER of the affected move is grounded or if the TARGET of the affected move is grounded. For instance, Electric Terrain gives a 50% boost to Electric damage dealt by grounded Pokemon, while Misty Terrain gives a 50% reduction to Dragon damage taken by grounded Pokemon. For instance, my Asphalt Terrain gives a 33% boost to accuracy (equivalent to a 25% drop in evasion) to moves that target grounded Pokemon.

Competitive Use: Since Dark-types are associated with trickery, this terrain is all about raising the stakes. While a increased critical rate may not seem like much at first, it makes Focus Energy sets and Pokémon that use moves like Night Slash and Psycho Cut very deadly. The Dark-type buff also gives their moves more offensive pressure, since their strongest widespread STAB moves (Knock Off and Dark Pulse) aren't very powerful.

Competitive Use: Hoo boy. Rock-types have always had to deal with the frankly crap defensive nature of their typing, in much the same way that Ice-types have - purely because it's such a brilliant attacking type. However, this field allows you to ameliorate some of the deleterious effects of this, both for Rock-types and for Pokémon who might otherwise struggle with obnoxious weaknesses - Sunny Day, for instance, would render Scizor neutral against Fire-type moves. This is an excellent defensive terrain and one I think in keeping with Rock as a typing.

Competitive Use: Flying-types and Levitators now don't have to worry about BoltBeam quite as much. Drifblim on its own can utilize a physical Acrobactics set, and can Baton Pass to teammates. (Well, until the inevitable Baton Pass ban in OU) This also fixes the problem of Air Slash being piss-ass weak (at least somewhat).

Competitive Use: Ice types are more often than not overshadowed due to their poor defensive typing. Now, Icy Terrain gives them the power boost they need, as well as an extra freeze chance to help them in their cause (yay?). If it seems overpowered, freeze chances are generally quite low anyway (usually around 10%).

Competitive Use: Stealth Rocks are great. What's the only thing better than Stealth Rock? Double Stealth Rock! Can you even imagine switching in your Pokemon only to take double the usual damage? Rip 4x rock weak Pokemon, they die instantly on the switch in. Rock power boost is nice but double Stealth Rocks is really where it's at.

However, if you used Ancient Power, it would have a 20% chance instead of a 10% chance to boost all of your stats. This works for both you and your opponent. It's a special kind of metal, alright?)

Competitive Use: Provides a much needed power boost for bug types, as well as an a new method of speed control for bug types and other non grounded pokemon. Leavanny gains a small niche as the terrain lets it outspeed much of the metagame and either revenge kill with it's powerful bug STAB or set-up and sweep (If only it got U-Turn...). The terrain also provides benefits to slower flying types by giving them a leg up on grounded opponents, and anybody with a Webbed Seed can use it to partially negate the speed drop.

Competitive Use: Serves more as an anti-terrain, canceling and superseding all other terrains. Many of the users are pure-normal types that can now use the STAB's more freely, and Drampa serves as a wallbreaker/Trick Room sweeper that doesn't have to worry about enemy terrain or weather combos. The seed also provides a rarely-seen boost that many pokemon can make use of.

Competitive Use: Used as a pseudo-trapping terrain, allowing ground types to prevent opponents from switching and hit them with their STAB, as well as a way to support Electric-weak teammates. Rhyperior becomes a risky counter to the many Ground-weak foes, as despite it's power, it has low special defence and gets trapped by it's own terrain.
You know, there's still one thing left to consider in regards to terrains: Secret Power. It has a different effect and animation depending on the terrain (e.g., paralysis / Thunder Shock for Electric Terrain). I mean, nobody uses it, but that doesn't mean it should be neglected entirely.
Camouflage is also a thing, but that's a lot more obvious (simply the type of the terrain).

Competitive Use: Intended to be a sabotage terrain, primarily against physical attackers. Might not be most useful for its own type, considering Ice-types are generally frail (and therefore don't benefit much from weakened Earthquake or opposing contact moves inducing recoil), but the same can be said about Misty Terrain (what's a Dragon resistance to something immune to Dragon?). It does, however, provide handy support for bulky mons, particularly specially oriented ones. Even some physically oriented walls are relatively safe (e.g., Chansey only takes 25 HP recoil from Seismic Toss). Zygarde also benefits well in that it has high HP and its main STAB is non-contact and not a quake move.

Competitive Use: Passimian is not very viable as is, so why not give it an actual niche? If it runs Frenetic Seed, it gets an effective Choice Band boost on the first switch-in, letting it hit as hard as it can with Close Combat and Iron Head (or it could just run Choice Scarf to patch up its Speed). Along with the boost, the terrain also works as an effective Taunt, toying with stall and setup-oriented attackers.

But anyway, the field itself augments the sweeping potential of Bug-types by powering up their STAB and neutering Leftovers and Sash/Sturdy.

Competitive Use: With Fairy-types and Misty Terrain roaming around, Dragons have become a fair bit more obscure as of late. This terrain turns them into powerhouses that don't have to worry about Levitate (if they have Earthquake), Flash Fire (if they run Fire coverage), Magic Bounce (if they use Stealth Rock or some other status move), Disguise, Unaware, or anything like that. Druddigon in particular benefits as if it had Mold Breaker (which it does normally), with the added bonus of stronger Dragon Claw (because that's its most reliable STAB). Supports MegaZard-X nicely by strengthening its Dragon Claw and making Heatran less of a problem.
I don't post much on Smogon, mostly just watch, but I've already had some terrain ideas and decided to share.
Also, if someone has already used a name, can I use it or not? I had a Muddy terrain idea too, though mine is probably worse.

I couldn't come up with a better ability abuser, since they are either B rank (Gyarados), inflict burn themselves (Volcanion) or don't fit flavorwise. Swampert can also support its teammates against electric move users, wearing them down (after Swampert switches, I mean, since it's immune)

It also helps offensive teams by helping Fighting and Poison types beat Psychics, and negates Sticky Web and Intimidate.

Ironically enough, flying types may benefit the most, being able to fire off unmissable Hurricanes without fear of always being hit themselves.

Justification: Rock moves are inaccurate. Hence a terrain that makes them more accurate. Nothing much to say here. I mainly designed this for Rhydon, which loves accurate Megahorns and Stone Edges.

Competitive Use: Allows some slower water-types to go at jet speed against most non-grounded foes. Not only as that, Terrains and Weathers are stackable, so if you are up to having Pelipper + Wailord + Samurott (See below), you have a pretty scarry team, even if monotype. Wailord can take some hits due to high HP so it is a reliable setter (Or rather, semi due to no recovery).
Special: Samurott has it's HA substituted by Surge Samurai (Under Aquatic Terrain (Or any winning water terrain) atk and sp. atk are doubled). If possible Golisopod too, but if only one is allowed leave it for Samurott

Competitive Use: First things first I don't think Burning the foe at the ending of every turn is as effective as having a free binding effect. If foe doesn't change the terrain (And if it doesn't receive any damage by other means) it will have lost 60% of it's max HP. Considering we're talking about okay partners (Say, Volcarona by having the terrain Fire-Spin a wall that relies on WoW, then you set up with Volc and sweep), including Magmortar (see below), and Magcargo also has okay defensive stats, and Recover. Also Stealth Rock.
Special: Magmortar gains Magma Diver. This boosts the mon's Speed and Sp. Atk by 1.5% under Fiery Terrain

The Dark-type buff also gives their moves more offensive pressure, since their strongest widespread STAB moves (Knock Off and Dark Pulse) aren't very powerful.

Competitive Use: You know what's annoying? Flying-types switching into Earthquake. You know how we fix that? Well, Gravity Landorus-T. But, you know a better way to fix that? Seismic Terrain! With Seismic Terrain, Ground-types not named Zygarde no longer have to worry about Flying-types and Levitating Pokemon switching into to most of their moves, allowing Ground-types to forgo certain coverage if they want to (i.e. Garchomp no longer needs (Z-) Fire Fang to hit Celesteela or Skarmory, certain Pokemon don't need Rock coverage to not get walled by Flying-types anymore, etc). Hippowdon gets it to give it a clear niche over the other Sand setter, Tyranitar, by letting it set up something else. Also, it gets Stealth Rock and reliable recovery, meaning that it can act as a nice lead with Terrain Extender.

Competitive Use: What happens when there's no deviation from the norm? What happens if nothing changes, if nothing can change? Well, this terrain answers just that. Generic Terrain limits the wild changes that can occur on the battlefield by ignoring something that can really change the course of a battle: Hazards. Hazards do lie on the terrain, but the Generic Terrain simply conceals them and acts like nothing happens, allowing hazard weak Pokemon, like Flying and Bug-types, to run free. Screens re ignored, too, as we can't have you changing your defenses around here. Also, to never deviate from the norm, once the terrain is set, grounded Pokemon can no longer have their stats lowered. Being weaker than normal isn't exactly normal, is it? Mega Audino gains the ability to set this terrain as it literally needed ANY ability that is useful is singles, greatly boosting it's viability. Generic Surge also allows Audino to act as a pseudo-hazard remover, which many Pokemon appreciate.
I don't post much on Smogon, mostly just watch, but I've already had some terrain ideas and decided to share.
Also, if someone has already used a name, can I use it or not? I had a Muddy terrain idea too, though mine is probably worse.

Swampert can also support its teammates against electric move users, wearing them down (after Swampert switches, I mean, since it's immune)

It also helps offensive teams by helping Fighting and Poison types beat Psychics, and negates Sticky Web and Intimidate.

Competitive Use: Encourages frustratingly haxy and game breaking strategies including hail + snow cloak + bright powder in order to defeat the opposing team simply from recoil or to allow Pokemon such as Jynx to setup multiple calm minds and then sweep with the speed and special attack boosts. Also transforms formerly overlooked Mons such as Glaceon into powerful but still beatable sweepers.

sidenote: if this seems too overpowered it isn't. the setter, glaceon, has subpar speed even with the +1 Speed and it would be outsped and killed or weakened and then revenged by priority. this terrain was mainly made to troll/shit on balance but gets completely overrun by offense.

Effect 1: Fire- and Water-type attacks only have 50% of their power
Effect 2: Every grounded non-Ice Pokémon has a 10% to be frozen at the end of each turn. Water-type Pokémon have a 20% chance. Fire-type Pokémon are immune to this effect

Competitive Use: Ice is a decently strong offensive type, but Water- and Fire-types have always been an issue, but now they're no longer that much threatening. Water-types in particular suffer from the Ice Age this Terrains brings, as they deal less damage with their STAB and risk being frozen for each turn they stay on the field. Abomasnow has been chosen as wielder of the Surge, since it can Mega Evolve immediately and become a incredible threat in Hail + this Terrain.

Seed Effect: Inverts stat changes of every Pokémon on the field
Competitive Use: Everyone knows how Contrary can turn a mediocre Pokémon into a fearsome beast (hello Serperior). Why not apply this effect to every Pokémon in battle ? This might seem OP at first, but two factors make this Terrain a double-edged sword : the fact that Liepard, the main setter, cannot abuse it itself (apart from maybe Swagger), and the fact that it's as easy for the opponent to take advantage of it as it is for you. However, it still powers up Knock Off and Sucker Punch to scary levels and can help other Pokémon, not necessarily Dark-types, snowball super easily.


Name: Seabed Terrain
Type: Water

Effect 1: The battlefield is considered as in rain and the weather cannot change while this Terrain is active.
Effect 2: Fire- and Flying-type attacks have their power reduced by 50%. This also applies to non-grounded Pokémon.
Attack: Every Water-type available living in the sea + Vaporeon + Primarina
Seed: Algae Seed
Seed Effect: +1 Special Defense
Competitive Use: It's like rain, but impossible to overwrite with weather. While the Terrain setter is mediocre (but still fitting flavor-wise), this can be of great help for rain teams, which are often bothered by stray Sun or Sand setters, ruining a sweep. Ludicolo in particular benefits from the situation, as it now resists Fire and is neutral to Flying. The Terrain seemed a bit underwhelming, so I decided to apply it to non-grounded Pokémon as well (you ARE underwater, after all)

Type: Fighting

Nature Power: Aura Sphere
Effect 1: Fighting-type attacks have infinite accuracy when used by grounded Pokémon
Effect 2: Psychic-type attacks used by grounded Pokémon bypass immunities
Attack: Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Hitmontop, Hariyama, Throh, Sawk, Mienshao, Medicham, Lucario, Blaziken, Infernape, Gallade, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Keldeo, Kommo-o
Seed: Chakra Seed
Seed Effect: Crit rate+2
Competitive Use: Even if this Terrain was more written considering flavor than actual competitive use, it gives Mienshao a small niche in infinite accuracy HJK. Giving that it also has U-Turn, it can pivot out to a teammate to abuse th Terrain. Psychic-types make for great partners since they can spam their STAB much more freely. In particular, Medicham, Gallade and their respective Mega Evolution are good abusers.

Effect 1: Ghost- and Dark-type attacks are powered up by 30%
Effect 2: Every attack without a secondary effect used by a grounded Pokémon now has a 10% chance to flinch
Attack: Banette, Mismagius, Dusknoir, Cofagrigus, Gengar, Spiritomb, Chandelure, Gourgeist, Trevenant, Palossand, A-Marowak, Sableye, Jellicent
Seed: Terror Seed
Seed Effect: Lowers Attack and Special Attack of one foe by one stage each
Competitive Use: Ghost are known for lacking strong offensive options, with the standard attack, Shadow Ball, sitting at a good-but-not-great 80 BP. Terror Terrain remedies to this fact, and effectively boosts the power of any Ghost-type attack. Plus, to add a bit of RNG roulette to the game, it makes attacks without a secondary effect have a chance to flinch, getting clutch turns in the match. Be wary though, as Dark-type attacks are powered up too, and no Ghost likes being Pursuited.

I'm pretty sure terrains cannot differ which side of the field set them and which didn't, so Kilgrave's Iron Terrain is sorta flawled. Correct me if I'm wrong tho.

Terrains are field effects, meaning that they apply to the battlefield rather than a certain team (unlike things such as Stealth Rocks and screens). I would assume that they would affect both teams the same way.
