Victim Of The Week [VoTW #27 - Zygarde / Zygarde-Complete]

Not open for further replies.
Vif-Argent's Porygon2.

Noved pretty much sums it all up. You need some really hot tech like z low kick to have a fighting chance against p2, that or flinch it to death. It's simply too good, and has a much better matchup vs pretty much every other submission as well, whilst still being a top mon in the metagame

raw sexual energy mon is quite underrated. It may not be as reliable as Porygon2, which has Recover, but it is a lot more fun, which counts for something. I also love the fact that unlike Porygon2 that simply forces it out, you can Pursuit trap it for 61.2 - 72.1% unless it uses Low Kick (only 14% now) or Dark Pulse, which does piss weak damage to Muk >:]

Congratulations to Vif-Argent for winning VoTW 19 (Greninja) with your submission of Porygon2! Your post will be logged into the archive.
Victim of the week #20 - Glalie

Up next is the shivering snowball of death. Now we all know exactly what Glalie does. Substitute / Protect / Sheer Cold / Freeze Dry. Protect turn one, sub turn two if you're faster, protect, sub again if the sub was broken, protect, etc while gaining boosts from moody along the way, paving an eventual sweep. Extremely predictable yet menacing to deal with and requires good luck on both your side to beat it, and your opponent's side to get some good boosts. So, How do you stop Glalie?
Submissions are open and will be closed in four days from now. Best of luck everyone!

M-Glalie is weak to both of Ken's STABs and Blaziken always outspeed it with Speed Boost as Moody won't always guarantee a boost in Speed.

Ultimate Glalie stopper. Immune to Sheer Cold because of awesome gen 7 mechanics changes, and Shell Armor means Frost Breath will never crit. Water Absorb is the better option for dealing with bulky waters. That being said, all that's left to do is sing so badly that floating ice ball won't be able to live for more than 3 turns (but Lapras itself can't stand it's own singing, so be careful).

Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 HP / 60 SpD / 196 Spe
Timid Nature
- Perish Song
- Protect
- Substitute / Will-O-Wisp / Disable / Pain Split
- Sludge Bomb / Hex

Shadow Tag + Perish Song is a deadly combination, it's fantastic for removing Glalie as well as stupid things like stall cores. The choice of moves is really up to you, Substitute is usually the best so you can just Perish>Protect>Sub>switch, but you have other options. Wisp is sometimes necessary to even get the Perish Song off on some threats (including Glalie running Earthquake), Disable is great for when they've used their best move against your Protect, and Pain Split can get you some health back after getting hit on the Perish Song turn. Sludge Bomb is the standard offensive move, but Hex can be used with Wisp (or Hypnosis if you like that) to hurt something bad. Icy Wind is also a cool option but I left that out on this set.

+2 0 SpA Glalie Freeze-Dry vs. 252 HP / 60 SpD Mega Gengar: 66-78 (39.5 - 46.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Quiver Dance

While it may not be as bullet proof as the use of perish song, Volc's ability to hit Glalie through substitute with Bug Buzz in combination with QD and Substitute makes it a very solid answer to the annoying ice ball.
Opted for the Swarm set to cover scenarios where Volcarona is on low health giving it almost a 50/50 chance to OHKO un-boosted Glalie(the standard 172 Hp / 84 SpD) on the spot.
Z-Bug Buzz/Swarm with one single boost of Quiver Dance allow Volcarona to blast through a lot of its checks like Mega-Mence , Zard-X to name a few.

Lucario @ Lucarionite

The premise here is very simple and straightforward. One stat Glalie can grab is evasion. Mega Lucario is coveted with Adaptability and the special anti-troll move Aura Sphere that dunks on even a +6 evasion Glalie, unlike some other sweepers. Use Nasty Plot on predicted Protect turns, and proceed to fire away.

252 SpA Adaptability Lucario-Mega Aura Sphere vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Glalie: 228-272 (121.9 - 145.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Cloyster is a solid Glalie killer by virtue of it's ice typing Cloyster gets an immunity to Sheer Cold, along with a neutrality to freeze dry. That doesn't matter a ton when Cloyster threatens Glalie with a multi-hit rock blast, breaking through it's sub. Not to mention the fact that Cloyster can easily set up a shell smash against glalie (of course there always is the chance of missing if glalie gets +2 evasion). If Glalie survives a rock blast Cloyster can follow up with an ice shard to KO.

Calcs:
Offensive:
252+ Atk Cloyster Rock Blast (5 hits) vs. 172 HP / 0 Def Glalie: 160-190 (90.3 - 107.3%) -- approx. 18.8% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Cloyster Ice Shard vs. 172 HP / 0 Def Glalie: 18-22 (10.1 - 12.4%) -- possibly the worst move ever

Defensive:

Shock Wave never misses. Flash Cannon hits harder when Evasion is not a factor.
The EV spread gives you the highest possible Lefties number at level 50 and maximizes special bulk to tank Freeze-Dry better.
4 Speed EVs for the mirror match.

Nobody runs this much offensive investment on their Moody Glalie, so the calcs would be even better in practice.
+0 252 SpA Glalie Freeze-Dry vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Magnezone: 17-21 (9.6 - 11.8%) -- possibly the worst move ever
+2 252 SpA Glalie Freeze-Dry vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Magnezone: 33-40 (18.6 - 22.5%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Magnezone Shock Wave vs. 172 HP / 84 SpD Glalie: 46-55 (25.9 - 31%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
0 SpA Magnezone Flash Cannon vs. 172 HP / 84 SpD Glalie: 122-146 (68.9 - 82.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

You can consider Magnet Rise for the uncommon Earthquake Glalie, but that would come at the cost of valuable coverage or Substitute.

PS: All the entries with slashed move and/or item choices should be disqualified by default. Rule number one clearly states...

I think the precedence has been well set that slashes are perfectly fine in submissions, seeing as more than half of the winners in Battle Spot's VOTW have slashes in their importable set. This thread is made to be a project where players can find out ways to counter specific mons in the Battle Spot meta, and adding the slashes give said player ideas on ways to fit these mons onto their team. Saying that slashes makes the importable invalid makes it seem as if one thinks this thread is only a competition, which should not be true because this is a "Project" not some odd sort or tournament.

It's still importable lol, it's not like people are putting 3 slash options on each move to make two completely different sets or anything. There's nothing wrong with being a bit versatile and adding other options, so long as it doesn't completely change the nom

I'm going with cant say's Gengar this week.

Unless Glalie gets a speed boost before Perish Song goes off, there's not much that it can do before going down. We had a lot of good submissions this week, but most of them rely on hitting moves, and you know how that can be a pain when Glalie gets its thing going.

To be a 100% counter to Glalie, you have to be immune to Sheer Cold, as well as not caring about evasion boosts. Pretty cool-Antimeta mon.

Voting for cant say's Gengar.

Mega Gengar works great against Glalie thanks to Perish Song + Shadow Tag. After all, who needs to hit moves when you can stall out Glalie?

I'd vote for Lapras but the problem is that glalie can just switch out after the perish song and it isn't quite trapped. Gengar does it way better though sheer cold is always a problem (I've had games where it has hit my gengar on turn 1 but it I'd take a 70 percent chance to win over a free switch out for glalie anyday of the week).

I couldn't have put it any better myself
