Greetings, everyone. I'm TheMaskedNitpicker, or TMN for short. I've been playing Pokémon since Red and Blue came out in the U.S., playing competitively since Ruby/Sapphire, and joined Smogon near the release of Diamond and Pearl. At that time I played both single and double battles regularly.
Over the course of the 4th generation, I slowly migrated to playing only double battles, which i found far more interesting. I eventually wrote a guide for those who are new to double battles, which you can find
here. Right now I'm working on a suggested ruleset for Smogon's official double battle metagames, which I hope will be well-received by the site admins.
I prefer battling PBR-style, where each player sees the six Pokémon on the other player's team and then chooses four to battle with. I feel this allows each player to customize their team to the opponent, which helps to reduce the my-team-beats-your-team, Rock-Paper-Scissors problem that can pop up in a high-variety metagame like doubles. I also prefer to play games best two out of three to help reduce the luck factor.
I play with Item Clause and Sleep Clause. I don't play with legends or pseudo-legends (Dragonite, Tyranitar, Salamence, Metagross, or Garchomp), but I'm currently accepting challenges from players with pseudo-legends.
That's me in a nutshell. Thanks for joining the group! Also, a big thanks to Quantum for starting this thread!
