The rules for Nuzlocke are for the most part not set in stone, you can adjust them to fit almost level of difficulty you wish.


Not directly stated, but if you save and a Pokemon faints you may not reset to before the event.

Extra restrictions include:

• Level restrictions (staggered by gym) to prevent serious overlevelling
• Forcing teams to be evenly levelled (e.g. your highest level Pokemon must not be more than 5 levels higher than your 4th highest level Pokemon, other than at the very start before you have time to level up your 4th Pokemon.)
• Pokecenters may only be used to heal PP not health or status
• No recovery moves.

New rule agreed in #nuzlocke: if something refuses to be released it can be counted as a zombie and you must re-nickname it.

That can be forced, you just teach it a HM and don't give it to any others, no? Too easy to abuse imo, if you actually can't release it box till you get another user of the correct HM.

Actually, I don't think it works like that. It was enforced because my Poochyena refused to run away, and I couldn't do anything.

If it does not go because of a HM then it would be an easily abusable clause, high happiness... I don't know. Depends how common the refusal is I guess. It seems a fair enough rule to use, but probably should not be a standard one.

I noticed this and am currently doing my first Nuzlocke on Diamond and ran into an interesting situation in which i did not know what was legal or not. During my first trip in Eterna forest i had to escort the person with the chansey and then ran into my first wild battle in the forest as a double battle against a Buneary and a Budew, neither of which i have already obtained. So my question is, am I allowed to catch either of them, neither of them, both of them, does this negate catching any pokemon in the forest or do double battles just not count or can i catch one of them the next time i run into it (whichever i run into again first)?? I thought this was interesting and need an answer. Thanks.

I would say you can catch either one.

Also, I have an interesting amendment to the "only catch first mon on the route" rule. I am currently doing a playthrough on Leafgreen that I plan to go through all the way, including cheating to get the MysticTicket and AuroraTicket and beating the Elite Four with their rematch teams. However, I see a potential hurdle: the one-pokemon-per-route rule may prevent me from registering 70 pokemon caught in the Pokedex. My proposed amendment is: I may catch as many pokemon as I want per route BUT all pokemon caught on that route other than the first pokemon ENCOUNTERED may only be used for the purpose of filling the Pokedex. So no HM slavery either.
