So there is a line of thinking that says a lot of "Christians" throughout the ages have done bad things, manytimes in God's name, therefore Christianity is just a ruse to justify one group dominating another.

What do you guys think about that? The answer is kind of obvious to me, those people are mislead and don't really represent God, but how would you explain this to your friends?

you could say something like the crusaders used God's name, and the church, to justify their taking of the "holy land" because they were hypocritical and misled? an example?

The higher ranked/recognised Templar's and crusaders used religion as a ruse to start wars, wars for profit, and to take over Jerusalem, for riches and glory,
War is frowned upon in the bible, yet in old times religion was a scapegoat for wars,
So really a representative of God is someone who doesn't fued, and argue over small or large things, but rather someone who fights to do the RIGHT things by God.
