All of you know that RBY leaves very little room for originality. Everybody believes that every team in RBY is:

Alakazam/Gengar/Exeggutor
Rhydon/Golem
Chansey
Snorlax/Zapdos/Starmie/Jynx/Dragonite/Tauros
Snorlax/Zapdos/Starmie/Jynx/Dragonite/Tauros

It's true that that's pretty much the standard team but that doesn't mean that there is no way to be creative and stray from the using the standard mons. If you're very familiar and experienced with the RBY metagame then there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to add some originality into your teams. Pokemon like Articuno, Hypno, and Cloyster (just to name a few) can work very well if used correctly.

Are there Pokemon that aren't commonly seen that work well? Have you made original teams that still function just as well as bog standard teams, or have you discovered new strategies? Feel free to post and discuss here.

well one of good inexpected sets of rby is SDZard. Wait until the enemy starmie/alakazam is down, then proceed to setup a SD.

Hey Loco, we've played quite a bit and you've probably seen how I fit Dragonite well into my team. He really works well on paralysis oriented teams.

I used Sandslash and Gyarados in a team for a while and it worked fine

In my usual team I have Sandslash and Cloyster

In RBY i used
Dugtrio
Fearow
Wigglytuff
Kingler
Venusaur
Rapidash
It owns lol, and in yellow on Giovanni I use a level 2 pidgey.

Dude gyrados with hyper beam and surf can wreck teams especially with the opposition t waved.

ive had a few pleasant surprised with Primeape in my RBY experience. sure he takes hits like a pin-dick but he can hit a few things pretty hard

I still remember a time when electric starters were common, and I started with a Nidoking lead. Raised a few eyebrows - especially when I used Body Slam instead of the Rock Slide that was standard back then.

Then again, I'm probably the only person that tries to get a Beedrill in every generation's squad somewhere.
