Sometimes the competitive build of CAP pokemon can cause "flavor problems" - things that just don't make obvious sense within the spirit, tradition, or canon of the Pokemon game. The key word there is "OBVIOUS".
In this discussion, I would like us to be critical fanboys AND creative problem-solvers. Take any CAP pokemon and point out a flavor problem with it -- BUT, you must also devise a "solution" to that flavor problem. For example:
CAP Pokemon: Fidgit
Flavor Problem: Tailwind
Problem Explanation:
Tailwind is a move given exclusively to pokemon that can manipulate air currents. All ingame pokemon with Tailwind are Flying type and have wings -- with the exception of Suicune, who is the legendary embodiment of the North Wind. Fidgit is a Poison/Ground pokemon with no wings. In fact, it is the exact OPPOSITE of a flying pokemon -- it specializes in digging underground! It has no business learning a move that is associated with wind and flying.
Solution Explanation:
If we continue to rely on Tailwind as being implemented by a gust of wind helping teammates move faster -- then Fidgit (who has the ability to spin rapidly for digging and gets Rapid Spin) could hold his long arms and big hands outward and spin very quickly. This would create a gust of wind, like an electric fan.
During Fidgit's creation, there was a more creative solution proposed (I don't remember who proposed it), but it relies on stretching the implementation of Tailwind. Fidgit could use its multiple hands to lift its teammates and carry them along, thus increasing their speed. Personally, this is my preferred solution. It fits better with Fidgit's multi-handed design, and the whole "utility pokemon" concept in general.
Feel free to post your own problems and solutions (use the format above), or comment on the problem-solutions posted by others. Here are a few posting guidelines for this discussion:
- Flavor problems can be related to just about anything associated with a CAP pokemon. Moves, abilities, the name, typing, design -- anything really!
- When pointing out problems, do not simply say "It doesn't make sense." Explain WHY it doesn't make sense. For it to truly be a problem, it should violate some common assumption, tradition, or mechanics of the game of Pokemon. Any true Pokemon fanboy should be able to back up their criticisms with "proof".
- Do not post problems without posting a proposed solution. It's no fun to sit around and bitch about problems. Think creatively to find a solution.
- The utmost fanboy respect is given to those that come up with the most clever solutions to the hardest problems. Feel free to post praise for creative thinking!
