If you're like me, and invite people to PM you to rate their team, you get some requests to rate some BAAAD teams every once in a while. I mean teams where no amount of fixing things up will make it any better, teams where changing 2 members isn't enough. How do you go about this? I usually just say, I can tell you're new, I'll just poke you in the right direction, and hardly change anything- but I still wonder if it would have been better to uproot everything and go rate-crazy. Opinions, thoughts?

IMO, if it's really really piss poor that you have to change 3 or more members, then the best you can do it is just point them to the right direction; I'm not saying the team is so incredibly bad that it doesn't deserve a rate, just that changing so many members makes it "team building" not "team rating", if something like this comes up, give them a few tips and hints, and try to cover the major threats if you can and link them to the B101 forum, so they can hopefully return with a rate-able team.

Although I no longer explicitly state that I fulfill rate requests, everyone should know that they're free to ask me. Rating bad teams tends to be pretty awkward. Sometimes the teams in question aren't even too bad; they just lack any semblance of direction. Usually, I try to stick to the original team as closely as possible, suggesting no more than two replacements (that's already a bit much for me). If the team is just about impossible to fix, I'll pretty much just point out some teambuilding tips and advice for the future.

that's why I stopped taking requests. if there's a team I have something to say about, I say it. if the inspiration doesn't come, then all changes feel "forced" and the result is rating just to rate--obviously it's hard to be consistent without making some "forced changes" but I think it should be avoided when possible. that's why having a large contingent of "official raters" is good in my opinion. it means there are a lot of people viewing the rmt forum, meaning one of them is bound to have something to say without having to force it.
