Note from the Editor: It sure has been a while since an issue of The Modern Grunt has come out. In the 5 days the new group for The Modern Grunt has been open, I have amassed enough material for a new issue of The Modern Grunt. I'd like to give a special thank you to some users who helped make this possible. First, BattleStar, who got me started with Issue #13 of The Modern Grunt and helped the whole way for the revitalization of The Modern Grunt. Second, Smaug and Golden Piloswine, who each provided great articles. Lastly, Metal Bagon for offering to head Trivia and TheChortler for making a question.

Black 2 and White 2 coverage
Introduction
It's finally upon us! Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 have been released. Information is coming so quick it is overwhelming for many, including myself. Formes, move tutors, a Dream World area, in-game Dream World Pokémon, and more are shaking up the metagame, and The Modern Grunt is going to keep you informed. At the end, an article written in the last issue of TMG that was written when the games had barely been revealed a week will have the speculation in said article proved or disproved.
Kyurem Formes
Kyurem got two new formes in Black 2, fusions of itself and Zekrom [B2]/Reshiram [W2].
Overview - Black Kyurem is the cover legendary of Black 2 and boasts the highest Attack stat in the game, barring Deoxys-A. It also got Fusion Bolt, which has great coverage, stopping its would-be nemesis, Skarmory. It also got a new signature move, Freeze Shock. It is exclusive to Black 2, unobtainable in White 2. The "official" abbreviation is Kyurem-B. Lastly, its Outrage is the most powerful in the entire game.
Forme Change - WARNING: PLOT SPOILERS
Typing - Dragon / Ice
This typing is very much a mixed bag for Black Kyurem. Its Ice-type leaves it weak to Stealth Rock, yet also gives it a nice Ice-type STAB. Its Dragon-type is great for it both offensively and defensively.
Base Stats - 125 HP / 170 Atk / 100 Def / 120 SpA / 90 SpD / 95 Spe
At first glance, the major attraction is, rightfully, its base 170 Attack stat. Base 170 Attack is more than enough to KO nearly the entire OU metagame, barring Ferrothorn. Drifting away, from the high Attack stat, you will notice its 125/100/90 defenses. Its defenses make it bulkier than many walls in OU. Lastly, its base Speed is at 95, which, while somewhat disappointing, is more than good enough. It can even go mixed with a high base 120 Special Attack.
vs. regular Kyurem: 125 HP / 130 Atk / 90 Def / 130 SpA / 90 SpD / 95 Spe
Ability - Teravolt
This can be useful for anything with Volt Absorb, which neuters Fusion Bolt.
Notable Moves -
Physical - Outrage, Fusion Bolt, Dragon Claw, Dragon Tail, Freeze Shock
Special - Draco Meteor, Ice Beam, Focus Blast
Support - Roost, Substitute
Sets -
Black Kyurem has been auto-banned from OU. This means that it is exclusive to the Uber tier.

SubRoost (credit to Rayquaza_)
Kyurem-B @ Leftovers
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Substitute
- Roost
- Fusion Bolt
- Dragon Claw
Substitute + Roost is a great combo to keep Kyurem-Z healthy. Fusion Bolt and Dragon Claw have great coverage together, and both are very reliable moves.
Choice
Kyurem-B @ Choice Band / Choice Scarf
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA) / Jolly Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Outrage
- Fusion Bolt
- Dragon Claw
- Freeze Shock
It either hits hard or revenge kills. Outrage and Fusion Bolt are obvious STABs, while Dragon Claw is more reliable than Outrage. Freeze Shock is basically filler, but has uses, including nuking Ferrothorn.
Mixed
Kyurem-B @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 16 HP / 116 Atk / 252 SpA / 124 Spe
Rash Nature (+SpA, -SpD)
- Fusion Bolt
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam
- Outrage
With 170/120 offenses, Kyurem-Z can run a great mixed set, powering through most walls with ease. Outrage and Draco Meteor are Dragon-type STABs, powering through anything that does not resist them. Ice Beam KOs most Ground- and Steel-types with ease. Fusion Bolt provides great coverage in and of itself, especially on Kyogre. The Attack EVs allow Kyurem-Z to always 2HKO standard Chansey with Outrage. The Speed EVs allow Kyurem-Z to outspeed standard Lugia. Max SpA is for powering up Draco Meteor and Ice Beam, while the filler is placed in HP.
Overview - White Kyurem is the cover legendary of White 2 and boasts the highest Special Attack stat in the game, barring Deoxys-A. It gets Fusion Flare, which demolishes most Steel-types. It is exclusive to White 2. The "official" abbreviation is Kyurem-W. Its Draco Meteor is the most powerful in the game.
Forme Change - WARNING: PLOT SPOILERS
Typing - Dragon / Ice
Unlike Black Kyurem, White Kyurem appreciates the Ice-typing giving it STAB on Ice Beam. It is a poor defensive typing, but a great offensive one.
Base Stats - 125 HP / 120 Atk / 90 Def / 170 SpA / 100 SpD / 95 Spe
The thing that pops out from this stat spread is a base Special Attack of 170. This allows White Kyurem to power through almost every Pokémon in the game. Its bulk and Speed are also acceptable, and its Attack is more than enough to go mixed. However, mixed is less desirable than on Black Kyurem, as its special attacks are more than enough, and the only real physical moves one would use are Outrage and Stone Edge, which is not worth a mixed set.
Ability - Turboblaze
[B]With Turboblaze, even Heatran doesn't resist its Dragon + Ice + Fire coverage.
Notable Moves - There are none for physical, White Kyurem doesn't use physical moves. Same with support.
Special: Draco Meteor, Fusion Flare, Ice Beam, Focus Blast
Sets - White Kyurem was also auto-banned to Ubers, like Black Kyurem, so it is only usable there.
Game information has been gathered from Serebii.net and the Smogon Black 2/White 2 Orange Islands thread.
Legendary Pokémon
- The games got a revamped regional Pokédex. This new Dex includes a record 300 Pokémon, with many from previous regions.
- Many Pokémon got new level-up movesets.
- The Musketeer trio has been displaced, with Cobalion first appearing on Route 6, later found to be captured on Route 13, Virizion on Route 11, and Terrakion on Route 22.
- Zekrom and Reshiram are found in Dragonspiral Tower after completing the game by bringing the stone obtained after battling N in the ruins of his castle and bringing said stone to Dragonspiral Tower.
- Kyurem is found in Giant Chasm. It leaves behind the DNA Link item after being captured, which allows Kyurem to fuse with Reshiram and Zekrom to become its Black/White formes.
- Latias (B2) and Latios (W2) are found in the Dreamyard. They leave behind the Soul Dew item after being captured.
- The lake trio is found post-game after visiting the Heart Cave on Route 20. Uxie is found in front of the Nacrene Museum, Mesprit on top of Celestial Tower, and Azelf on Route 23.
- The Regi trio is found within the game. Regirock must first be captured in the Underground Ruins, beneath Clay Road. There is a puzzle to be solved, and Regirock is available only during day and night. The Steel Key (B2) and the Iceberg Key (W2) allow for Registeel and Regice, respectively, to be found. These keys may be shared through Unova Link. Regigigas is found at the bottom of Twist Mountain if the three Regis are brought together.
- The Lunar Wing is found in the Stranger House near Yamaji Town. Taking the Lunar Wing to Marvelous Bridge will make Cresselia appear for capture.
- Heatran is found in Rebirth Cave after finding the Magma Stone on Route 18.
Miscellaneous Pokémon
- Black 2 has a Weak Armor Mandibuzz on Route 4, White 2 a Defiant Braviary.
- A Flame Body Volcarona is found in Relic Castle.
- A Crustle is found by Seaside Cave. The Achroma Machine is required to battle it.
- A Damp Jellicent is found on Undella Bay.
- A Shiny Haxorus is found in the Nature Sanctuary.
- Fennel gives an Anticipation Eevee in Castelia City.
- A Serene Grace Deerling is found on Route 6.
- After defeating Banjirou in the Black Skyscraper/White Tree Hollow, he will give the player a Shiny Gible (BS) or a Shiny Dratini (WFH).
- A Pokémon Breeder will give you a Happiny egg in Nacrene City.
- In Twist Mountain Cave, a man will give you one random fossil each day. The fossils are Helix (Omanyte), Dome (Kabuto), Old Amber (Aerodactyl), Root (Lileep), Claw (Anorith), Skull (Cranidos), and Armor (Shieldon). They can be revived by Lenora in Nacrene City.
- Magikarp can be bought from a man for 500 Poké Dollars on Marvelous Bridge.
- Lenora will give one of the Cover Fossil (Tirtouga) or the Plume Fossil (Archen) in Nacrene City.
- Swarms are back in the game. They are found on Route 1 (Farfetch'd), Route 3 (Volbeat [B2] and Illumise [W2]), Route 5 (Natu), Route 6 (Plusle [B2] and Minun [W2]), Route 7 (Furret), Route 8 (Quagsire), Route 9 (Swalot), Route 11 (Masquerain), Route 12 (Doduo), Route 13 (Swellow), Route 15 (Fearow), Route 16 (Pineco), Route 18 (Hoppip), Route 20 (Sudowoodo [B2] and Mr. Mime [W2]), and Route 22 (Ariados [B2] and Ledian [W2]), as well as in the Dreamyard (Hypno), Resort Desert (Hippowdon), Abundant Shrine (Slowpoke), and Rebirth Mountain (Cacturne).
- N's previous Pokémon are found on Route 2 (Purrloin) and in Pinwheel Forest (Pidove, Timburr, and Tympole), Chargestone Cave (Boldore, Joltik, Ferroseed, and Klink), the Desert Resort (Sandile, Darumaka, Scraggy, and Sigilyph), and Driftveil City (Zorua).

Route 6 has Poison Touch Muk, Analytic Watchog, Simple Woobat, and Regenerator Foongus. Route 7 has Rattled Cubchoo. Route 9 has Prankster Liepard and Soundproof Bouffalant. Route 13 has Flare Boost Drifloon, Keen Eye Skorupi, and Regenerator Amoonguss. Route 18 has Regenerator Corsola and Big Pecks Chatot. Route 22 has Rain Dish Pelipper, Regenerator Amoonguss, and Reckless Mienfoo. Route 23 has Infiltrator Seviper. Sangi Ranch has Sap Sipper Marill and Scrappy Herdier. Pokémon Dream Radar

Pokémon Dream Radar is a Nintendo 3DS application. It allows for capture of Telepathy Dialga/Palkia, Regenerator Ho-Oh, Multiscale Lugia, the Therian formes of the Kami trio, and much more. Evolution stones and the previously unobtainable Sacred Ash and mulches appear within the game. The gameplay consists of clouds as areas and a beam that requires charging up and focusing on the target to catch the Pokémon. The main attraction is the Kami trio's Therian formes, which are available after completing the Miracle Stage:
Overview - The Therian forme of Tornadus has more Defense, Special Defense, and Speed, though not much more in the defenses department. Its ability is Regenerator, and its movepool is the same as Tornadus-I's (Incarnate Forme). Furthermore, with the use of the Reflecting Mirror key item, one can change it back to its Incarnate forme with Defiant, the Incarnate's forme Dream World ability. The abbreviation for the forme is Tornadus-T. It is only available from the
Forme Change - WARNING: SPOILERS
Typing - Flying
Its typing is the exact same as Tornadus's, pure Flying. This typing gives it a devastating STAB Hurricane, but also provides a debilitating Stealth Rock weakness.
Base Stats - 79 HP / 100 Atk / 80 Def / 110 SpA / 90 SpD / 121 Spe
The first thing that pops out is its blistering 121 base Speed. This allows it to outspeed most of the metagame, including Alakazam, a base 120. 79/80/90 defenses may not seem that great, but they are a great improvement from Tornadus-I's 79/79/80. Its Attack is surprisingly usable as well.
Ability - Regenerator
Did someone beg to GameFreak for this? I don't know, but they gave Regenerator to a Stealth Rock weak Pokémon. This is an absolutely amazing ability, and Tornadus didn't use Prankster for much anyway.
Notable Moves -
Physical: Superpower, U-turn
Special: Hurricane, Focus Blast, Hidden Power
Support: Rain Dance
Sets

Tornadus-T @ Choice Specs / Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature (+Spe, -SpD) / Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- Hidden Power Ice / Rain Dance
- U-turn / Rain Dance
This is the only set that Tornadus-T should be running. While it may at first seem inferior to Tornadus-I, with a lower Special Attack stat, in reality the added Speed and still stellar base 110 Special Attack stat make it outclass its Incarnate forme. STAB Hurricane hits like a truck, plowing through anything that does not resist it. Superpower is the main option for the second slot, providing a reliable option against Tyranitar and demolishing the blobs. Hidden Power Ice hits the 4x weak Dragon-types hard, as Hurricane does more to the ones it is 2x super effective against. U-turn is great for maintaining momentum and scouting, but if running Life Orb, Rain Dance is also a great option so that Tornadus-T can smash opposing weather inducers with Hurricane. It should be noted that one that the best moveset for Life Orb variants is Hurricane / Superpower / Rain Dance / U-turn, as otherwise one is better off with Choice Specs.
Overview - The Therian forme of Thundurus has more Special Attack at the cost of decreased Speed and Attack. With the Reflecting Mirror, one can change it to Tornadus-I with its hidden ability of Defiant. Its ability is Volt Absorb, and it retains Thundurus-I's movepool. The appropriate abbreviation is Thundurus-T.
Forme Change - WARNING: SPOILERS
Typing - Electric / Flying
This is the same as Thundurus-I's, providing a powerful STAB Thunder and a debilitating Stealth Rock weakness.
Base Stats - 79 / 105 / 70 / 145 / 80 / 101
These stats are really a mixed bag for Thundurus-T. On one hand, its Special Attack is bumped up to an extremely high 145, and its Attack is decent at 105, but it really misses the extra base Speed. However, it still outspeeds the base 100s, so it's not all bad. However, it is now open to Terrakion, Keldeo, and Latios, all of which can OHKO it with their respective STABs.
Ability - Volt Absorb
GameFreak figured they had to give an awesome ability to Thundurus-T as well, and they produced. Volt Absorb gives it ample switch-in opportunities to the multitude of Electric-type attacks in the tier, allowing Thundurus-T to heal off some of the damage from Stealth Rock, which is huge.

EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature (+Spe, -SpD)
- Thunderbolt / Thunder
- Superpower
- Hidden Power Ice
- Volt Switch / U-turn
Thundurus-T is the best revenge killer in the tier at the moment. It has a nice immunity to Electric-type moves and can outspeed all of the base 100 boosters, including the new and fearsome Dragon Dance + Outrage Salamence and Quiver Dance Volcarona. Thunderbolt is the main STAB for when not on rain teams, but when on rain teams, Thunder is far preferable, smashing through many of the tier's top threats. Superpower is once again the main option for the blobs and Tyranitar. Hidden Power Ice hits Dragon- and Grass-types, allowing Thundurus-T to revenge kill +1 Salamence. Volt Switch is the superior option in the last slot for STAB, but U-turn is also useful for not having any immunities.
Thundurus-T @ Life Orb / Leftovers

Naive Nature (+Spe, -SpDTimid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt / Thunder
- Hidden Power Ice
- Focus Blast / Superpower / Substitute
Remember Nasty Plot Thundurus-I ripping things apart? Now imagine that with 20 extra base Special Attack with a bit less Speed and you have Nasty Plot Thundurus-T. Nasty Plot allows Thundurus-T to boost its Special Attack to a fearsome 778, enough to OHKO most of the OU tier. Thunderbolt is the main STAB, Thunder in rain, both plowing through anything that does not resist them. Hidden Power Ice smashes the Dragon- and Grass-types that resist its Electric-type STAB. Focus Blast hits Tyranitar, the blobs, and Ferrothorn. However, Superpower can be used to deal with the blobs quickly and efficiently without risking being KOed from a miss, but sadly fails to OHKO Ferrothorn. Substitute is also an option to avoid priority and revenge kills, although one must give up Superpower to do so.
Thundurus-T @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -SpA)
- Taunt
- Thunder Wave
- U-turn
- Thunderbolt
This set (original idea by Katakiri) is made to disrupt rain teams on sun teams with Taunt and Thunder Wave. If Thundurus-I drops down, this is outclassed, but, at least for now, this is what there is. Taunt deals with defensive Pokémon, while Thunder Wave deals offensive Pokémon. U-turn is in the last slot over Volt Switch to be able to switch-in Ninetales every time without having to worry about immunities. Thunderbolt is in the last slot just as a reliable STAB.
Thundurus-T @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- U-turn
- Thunderbolt / Thunder
- Hidden Power Ice
This is a different version of the Scarf set (I forget the user who created it, I remembered seeing it in a thread, claim it and I'll give you credit for it) based around always getting off the momentum from U-turn or Volt Switch. With both, one gets the best of both worlds, power and reliability. Volt Switch has an immunity courtesy of the omnipresent Ground-types, while U-turn has no immunity. Volt Switch, however, has much more power with STAB. Thunderbolt (or on rain teams, Thunder) is the reliable STAB option, while Hidden Power Ice provides the best possible coverage with the Electric-type STAB. No Naive nature because U-turn doesn't do much damage anyway with only 4 EVs invested. The 4 EVs are still invested in Attack simply because they are just filler.
Thundurus-T @ Life Orb / Choice Specs
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature (+Spe, -SpD)
- Thunderbolt / Thunder
- Hidden Power Ice
- Superpower
- Volt Switch / U-turn
Instead of relying on setup or being locked into a move with a Choice item, this set is a simple all-out attacker. The first two moves are obvious, the first a reliable STAB with a slash for the superior rain option and the second great coverage on Dragon- and Grass-types that resist the first move. Superpower demolishes the blobs, Tyranitar, and Ferrothorn. Volt Switch is the main option for more power, but U-turn is also an option for reliability.
Thundurus-T @ Life Orb
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature (+Spe, -SpD) / Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Agility
- Thunderbolt / Thunder
- Hidden Power Ice
- Superpower / Substitute
This set is extremely underrated, as it can be extremely potent with the entry hazards and Rapid Spin support. Agility boosts its 101 Speed to extremely high levels, from which it can sweep. The second and third slots are as standard as standard comes. Superpower hits the blobs, Tyranitar, and Ferrothorn, but Substitute is also great for preventing priority revenge kills from the likes of Mamoswine and Scizor.
Overview - The Therian forme of Landorus has more Attack at the cost of Special Attack and Speed. Its ability is Intimidate. With the Reflecting Mirror, one can change Landorus-T to its Incarnate forme with its Dream World ability, Sheer Force. It retains Landorus-I's movepoolThe abbreviation for its Therian forme is Landorus-T.
Forme Change - WARNING: SPOILERS
Typing - Ground / Flying
This typing is the same as Landorus-I's, providing STAB on Earthquake with a resistance to Fighting-type attacks and an immunity to Ground-type attacks.
Base Stats - 89 HP / 145 Atk / 90 Def / 105 SpA / 80 SpD / 91 Spe
These stats are interesting, to say the least. On one hand, it has an extremely high base 145 Attack, but on the other, 91 Speed is slow. Landorus-T struggles to compete with its Incarnate counterpart because of this lowered Speed. While the other Therian formes got great stats to work with, Landorus-T was kind of dealt the hard end.
Ability - Intimidate
Intimidate is of course a great ability, allowing Landorus-T to check the likes of Terrakion, but is honestly inferior to Sand Force on Landorus-I. To give an idea of what power it loses from Sand Power, a Jolly Sand Force-boosted Earthquake from Landorus-I does more damage than an Adamant Earthquake from Landorus-T. Intimidate is a great ability, but without Roost to abuse the lowered Attack from the opponent it really suffers, and sorely misses Sand Force. However, this does allow it to function outside of sand, which is a great thing.
Notable Moves -
Physical: Earthquake, Stone Edge, U-turn
Special: Hidden Power
Support: Stealth Rock

- Stone Edge
- Superpower
- U-Turn
This is only for non-sand teams really, as in sand Landorus-I beats it with more Speed and power. Earthquake is a powerful STAB, and Stone Edge pairs well with it. Superpower smashes past Ferrothorn and other Steel-types. U-turn allows one to keep momentum.
Landorus-T @ Leftovers (EVs courtesy of CrackinSkulls)
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 164 HP / 252 Atk / 94 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Stealth Rock

Landorus-T has a niche in having Intimidate, Stealth Rock, and a lot of physical power. Stealth Rock is a great support move, and the last three moves are standard.

EVs: 74 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe
Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SpD) / Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)

- Hidden Power Ice / Gravity
Substitute is great for avoiding revenge kills from faster Pokémon. The only other move that seems questionable is Gravity, which makes Stone Edge more accurate.

Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spd
Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SpD)

Rock Polish boosts Landorus-T's Speed to acceptable levels for sweeping/wallbreaking.
Landorus-I @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Rock Polish / Calm Mind
- Earth Power
- Psychic
- Hidden Power Ice / Superpower
Since Landorus-T can change itself to the hitherto-unreleased Sheer Force Landorus-I via the Reflecting Mirror, here is a set that abuses Landorus-I's base 115 Special Attack and Sheer Force. Rock Polish is for more Speed, while Calm Mind is for more power. Earth Power is a reliable Sheer Force-boosted STAB. Psychic, also Sheer Force-boosted, hits Fighting-types. The last slot is mainly for coverage, Hidden Power Ice for Dragon-types and Superpower for Steel-types as well as the blobs.

Assist Mode lowers some trainers' levels and is exclusive to White 2, though it is able to be shared via local wireless. Challenge Mode bumps up some trainers' levels and is exclusive to Black, also able to be shared via local wireless. The sharing can happen between both games, so Challenge Mode can be shared with White 2 and Assist Mode with Black 2. Way to troll us GameFreak!
A new Wi-Fi/local wireless/C-Gear/InfaRed feature called Join Avenue allows players to go to each other's avenues and create shops each time they visit. The players can then visit the other player's and their own Join Avenue's shops to get the goods at said shops. They sell specialized items with rare effects. These include increasing egg hatching speed, increasing happiness, increasing the amount of EVs given, and more.
The Pokémon World Tournament is a tournament with multiple different modes for battling past gym leaders, champions, and other major characters. More information can be found

Another 3DS app called Pokédex 3D Pro will be launched on July 14, coinciding with the release of Meloetta (a coincidence). It will cost 1500 yen and will feature all 649 Pokémon + formes without having to unlock them. A free download of all of the Pokémon for the original Pokédex 3D was released, allowing for the unlock of all 646 Pokémon + formes (not the Therian Kami trio formes, also lacks Keldeo, Meloetta-A, Meloetta-P, and Genesect.
Speculation Proved/Disproved
I wrote an article in Issue #13 when Black 2 & White 2 had just been revealed. It had speculation with likelihoods. This section has that speculation, with the outcomes in bold. Enjoy!
-Black Kyurem will be Ice / Electric and White Kyurem will be Ice / Fire.
Likelihood: Maybe. It seems as though Game Freak would keep the Dragon-type shared among the original trio.
Outcome: The typing was Dragon / Ice. The Dragon-type being kept in the likelihood was, in fact, correct.
-The games will connect to Hoenn via the Mistralton City airport.
Likelihood: Maybe. It seems as though it has been too short of a time to do so though, but it would be interesting if N flew out to Hoenn. This is also supported by the red and blue crystal-type tints in the logos. However, this could also mean fire and electric for Reshiram and Zekrom, but it looks more like crystals to me.
Outcome: No. This was a long-shot in the first place, though.
-The Kyurem formes will have triple typing.
Likelihood: No. It's not in Black & White, there is no coding for it, and the games must be compatible with Black & White.
Outcome: No. It was something that would never happen. The outcome was expected.
-There will be move tutors.
Likelihood: Almost definite. It's been that way for the past few generations, and I don't see Game Freak breaking that tradition.
Outcome: Yes.
-Meloetta will be catchable in-game.
Likelihood: Maybe. It would be breaking tradition for this to happen, but the games themselves are breaking a tradition. However, there is a movie coming out with Meloetta and Keldeo in it, which could mean they will be released by event.
Outcome: No, it will be released via event.
-Secret bases will reappear.
Likelihood: Maybe. If the games go back to Hoenn, they will, and maybe they will appear in general.
Outcome: No.
-Dream World abilities will be released.
Likelihood: Game Freak does what they want.
Outcome: Yes, GameFreak delivered well on this.
-Battle Frontier
Likelihood: Most likely. They did it before, they might do it again.
Outcome: No, but the World Tournament is similar in that it has BP and Pokémon always at Lv. 50.
-Gym Leader rematch and Wi-Fi Plaza
Likelihood: Near definite.
Outcome: The rematches came (with previous generation ones), but there is no Wi-Fi Plazza.
-Return of Team Rocket / Aqua / Magma
Likelihood: Who knows?
Outcome: No, Team Plasma stayed, though it split into Old and New, instead of just being one team.
-3D enhancement
Likelihood: Maybe. It could be true, it could not be.
Outcome: No. GameFreak decided not to and/or didn't have enough time to.

Closing Thoughts
Black 2 and White 2 brought a lot of new things to Pokémon, both in-game and competitively. A note to people not importing or using ROMs: release dates are October 7 in the US (also my birthday!) and October 13 in Europe. Oh and my overall score for the game is a 9.9 because of the trolling with Challenge Mode being Black 2 exclusive.

Scizor - Past, Present, and Future
Scizor: Past, Present, and Future
Scizor is, as of the most recent usage stats, the most-used Pokémon in standard OU. However, it was not always so popular in the past, as it had very little going for it, and was actually stuck in BL for two generations.
Past
When it was first introduced in GSC, Scizor was one of the most used Pokemon. However, as Fire-type attacks became more popular (to combat Pokemon of the new Steel-type), Scizor fell out of favor and dropped to UU, from where it was sent to the no-mans land known as BL, and was generally relegated to Baton Passing duties. It had no good STAB attacks and no real niche.
In RSE, Scizor didn't improve much. It could try to sweep with Swords Dance or Agility, but was generally overlooked in favor of other sweepers like Tyranitar. Its case was not helped by the fact that its best STAB move was Steel Wing. It could try to Baton Pass +2 in Attack, Defense, or Speed, but that was about it.
With the release of Diamond and Pearl, Scizor became a little more useful. After the physical/special split, Scizor could hunt down its enemies with a newly-physical pursuit, possibly boosted by its new ability, Technician. It also received reliable STABs in Iron Head, U-turn, and X-scissor, as well as the newly introduced Roost for recovery.
Then Platinum happened. Scizor received the move for which it is famous: Bullet Punch. This move, bolstered by Scizor's base 130 Attack and Technician, allowed the mantis to revenge kill some of the metagame's top threats, such as Tyranitar and Gengar. Superpower was also incredibly useful for things like Heatran and Magnezone. People gave this flightless bug a Choice Band and watched it soar all the way to the number one spot.
Editor's note: It later fell out of favor with the rise of Heatran, for more information.
Present
With the release of B/W, Scizor didn't change much, but the metagame did. Rotom-W became a Water-type, meaning that it and Scizor covered each others' weaknesses perfectly. The addition of Volt Switch to Rotom's arsenal allowed for the creation of deadly VoltTurn teams that seized momentum and kept it hostage. Scizor was also one of the few Pokemon capable of reliably revenge killing the monstrous Terrakion. The release of Drizzle Politoed made rain an ever-present factor in the metagame, a fact that Scizor and his new partner-in-crime both loved.
Future
Now, with the release of BW2, there are several new threats to Scizor. Keldeo, the newest musketeer (based on d'Artagnan) is a very fast, incredibly deadly threat. Its water typing ensures that Scizor's Bullet Punch does less than 32% damage, which makes revenge killing it very difficult. Another new threat is Thundurus-T, with a stellar base 145 Special Attack, base 101 speed, and a resistance to Bullet Punch. It seems, based on these and other new threats, that Scizor will not be keeping his throne as king of OU for long...

VGC Abolishment List
Sometimes when I show up to Pokémon's premier video game tournament, I am disgusted.

Maybe it's the attitude the staff has with guests, maybe it's the stupid rules that they have, but one way or the other the VGC is not perfect, and never will be. This is the "Unofficial VGC Abolishment List", coming to you right here, right now"
Abolishment #1: Single Elimination - Let's say I attended this so-called VGC'11 event in Washington D.C. Then let's just say the rule was single elimination. Then let's just say that I lost to some unfair hax the first round. You think this makes me happy.

Ha Ha Ha. IT DOESN'T!!!!!

If single elimination makes a comeback for VGC'13, let's just say that the president of The Pokemon Company International is never going to be heard from again...
Editor's Note: News report - Kenji Okubo found missing!
Abolishment #2: Pokémon Restrictions: Any Pokémon team with two of Drizzle, Rain Dance, and Swift Swim is not allowed to compete. Same goes for two of Sand Force, Sand Stream, and Sand Rush. Drought is okay due to not many good Pokémon having Chlorophyll. Dark Void Smeargle is not aloud to compete. Last but not least ABSOLUTELY NO outside drinks ALLOWED!
Abolishment #3: Hiring inexperienced, unqualified, rude people who don't know shit from Shinola! For example, your opponent uses a Lv. 100 Genesect (which, as some of you may know, isn't available yet in any language), then you complain to the staff that some one hacked, and they let it slide (note the Genesect example was only a metaphor, no one to my knowledge has used a Genesect in the VGC, and no staff approved it). Bottom line: I think it's important to hire knowledgeable staff for your so-called "organized" events.
Abolishment #4: Taking Advantage: Some shops at the event sell rare Pokémon cards. This one shop in particular had a Persian card with a misprint (no HP number). It was $216! Way to fuck over the consumer... How much money do they think people bring to these things anyway? Next thing you know, you're washing dishes because you can't pay your hotel bill.
The VGC has other things wrong with it, but none are as important as these four. So there. BAM. Comment.

VGC Strategies
VGC Strategies
When I attended the VGC this year, I knew nothing of Smogon. I wondered things like "Who are all these people wearing Mighty Ducks shirts, pointing to this kid saying "OMG that Cybertron", asking me before a battle do you EV train?" I did EV train, but this one kid had a notebook he kept with him, the title was "Smogon PKMN Posts" I wondered, "What is Smogon?" Turns out this kid raped me. He used Latios, Metagross, and Rotom-W. The fourth was unseen. Anyway after going 4-4 at the VGC I decided to make stategies to counter each of the teams I encountered.
Read & React: Full of different typed Pokemon to create a mixed team. Usually comes with a slow Pokemon or two, to counter Trick Room. Then it will have a physical attacker/sweeper and a special attacker/sweeper. It also has a wall, and/or a status Pokemon that can provide useful moves like Helping Hand, Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave, etc. The best way to counter is to have the right Pokemon. No real easy way to take them out. Hax is a huge factor here.
Rain: Perhaps one of the most hated, and despised teams ever. Always have a Pokemon with Drizzle, Swift Swim, and Surf. Usual Pokemon: Politoed, Kingdra, Ludicolo, Thundurus, Jellicent. They might have an extra Pokemon that is'nt weakened by water to counter possible threats. The best way to counter is to have Cloud Nine, Air Lock, or another rain team. Grass types are good, but better be watchful of Ice Beam. Electric types are proabably your best bet. Using Sunny Day can also hurt your opponent's plans.
Sandstorm: Another despised team. They always lead with Tyranitar, and Excadrill. They have other Pokemon like Landorus whose Sand Force makes it a truly formidable Pokemon. Zapdos is also a possibility because it can use Discharge without worry of hurting an ally. Have Water types, Cloud Nine, Air Lock. A rain team would be nice to.
Sunny Day: Led by Ninetales, they have Fire types to strengthen their moves. Also expect Pokemon with Chlorophyll. Best way to counter is to have a Rain Team, Cloud Nine, Air Lock. If you use Rain Dance, thats helpful too.
Trick Room: Have slow Pokemon. Avoid using fast ones. That's it.
Tailwind: Stall it out. Or use Tailwind yourself.
Inexperienced Teams: Teams that you are 110% sure that the trainer is an idiot an showed up at the VGC with an un-EV trained team. Don't over think the battle or you will lose.
These are all of the teams you could possibly run into at the VGC. Cloud Nine and Air Lock must be used after the weather condition is on the field.
We look foward to more VGC from this up-and-coming writer!
