You see, there is a stigma which many atheists attach with religion which is that religion is totally bad, but the fact of the matter is that insulting a demographic which is almost as diverse as the entire human race will just make you look like a fool. There are a whole lot of ignorant, hateful atheists, a whole lot of intelligent, open-minded Christians, peaceful and friendly Muslims, and so on.
When you say "I hate religion" you really mean to say "I dislike and oppose many practices which are often associated with religion." Things like ignorance, logical fallacy, sectarian violence and enforced inequalities are such things which religion is often branded with, but they can also be found in high numbers of non-religious individuals.
Being an atheist does not make you a good person.
Being a Christian does not make you a good person.
Being a Jew does not make you a good person.
Being a good person is about treating your fellow human beings with dignity, respect, open-mindedness and kindness.
I do not hate Christianity or any other religion, and I think you're a pretty low form of life if you hate billions of people around the world who you have never met and gotten to know. I know that people can be good people with or without religion; many of my closest friends are religious. I make jokes about religion because I fear what may happen to society if we forbid ourselves to laugh at certain things, and also because I think religious jokes can be funny. I also do it because if I think people are going to get offended by it, they deserve to get offended by it.
I really don't care what you are.
I just care who you are.
