They say that more books have been written on chess than any other sport or activity. As a improving player who cannot afford grandmaster lessons, I gain most of my knowledge from chess books. My "collection" currently consists of:
- Chess: 5334 Problems, Combinations, and Games by Laszlo Polgar
- Nimzo-Indian with 4. Qc2 by Max Dlugy
- Chess Traps and Zaps I by Pandolfini
- Chess Thinking by Pandolfini
- The Amateurs Mind by Jeremy Silman
- Silman's Complete Endgame Course by Jeremy Silman
- How to Reassess Your Chess: 4th Edition by Jeremy Silman
- Modern Chess Openings: 15th Edition
- Play The Queen's Gambit by Chris Ward
- The Art of Learning by Josh Waitzken (Not a regular chess book)
Personally, I like Silman's work, as he is easy to learn from and his teachings are not basics. I've read more books from the library, but none were all to great. I was wondering if anyone had any great books that they would like to recommend, either for playing or teaching the game of chess.
