I would be interested in hearing what everyone's favorite GBU mode is. My favorite would be Triple or Launcher (which are basically the same thing a lot of times because people forget they can launch items).

I have only been battling on the GBU about 4 months or so and I have never battled PO or thru the WI-FI battle finder boards.

I like the triple format because it seems a lot more forgiving than the other formats. Also I like using the slower, under used pokemon when I use a trick room team. I have even used wormadams.

I have started to do more rotation battles, but it is soooo hard to ever find anyone online for that mode. It is a little more intense too and sometimes after I get home from a long hard days work I don't want to be on the edge of my seat, I just want a mellow battle.

I guess another question I have is how do you determine how long to wait. A lot of times I do other things while I am waiting for battles like maybe load the dishwasher or fix a snack (go to the bathroom). Sometimes thought that will backfire because you see someone waiting for you and you have no idea how what someones rating is or how many wins they have.

Do the number of wins or rating affect your approach?

I prefer Triples because there are so many broken/new strategies one can use that would normally be restricted in Doubles.

I've tried Rotation before, but after losing to Aron more times I could count, I was like "fuck this". Then I played Triples, haha.

Lol, I love using Aron in rotations. Singles are more my style but rotation battles are nice and intense if I feel like I want to foresee the reaction of my opponent. @ Bald Accountant, I usually wait about 3 minutes for a battle, and if that doesn't work, I press B, it asks me if I want to quit, and it resumes searching. If that doesn't work after about 5 times, I exit wifi then reenter.

To give you a feel for where I stand, at first I bred all my pokemon mostly because I was afraid action replay would mess up my game, but now I use pokesav and it works very well. I work very hard and I don't have a lot of free time to play pokemon, so I don't feel guilty about cutting of hours and hours of breeding and EV training time by using pokesav.

As far as free vs rated match ups, I prefer free because:
1) It is easier to get matches
2) Usually the matches are more laid back, although I do get quite a few disconnects
3) The level of competition is a little lower and I am a relative noob.

That said, I have been playing a lot more rated matches just because I like the rush of battling better battlers.

I hate hax moves on GBU, but then again one persons hax is another persons good strategy.

I think a lot of people think trick room is too gimmicky or is hax. I get three types of disconnects:

1) Immediate disconnect when TR goes thru
2) Disconnect when I wipe out 1/2 team in second round
3) Disconnect right after match is lost

I don't mind #3 as much as I do the other 2, although in rating mode I do like to get credit for the win. At least in #3 you have the satisfaction of seeing a match all the way thru.

I enjoy free matchups more than the latter for the same reasons as you. Legal hacks are okay because you could get the same pokemon give or take a few months/weeks anyway. I'm okay with hax moves, but minimize is my public enemy #1 on random matchups. It takes absolutely no strategy to set up a bunch of minimizes and then baton pass them on the majority of the time.

I just like going all out with no strategy whatsoever or not much of one. I use cloystewr(not much anymore though), garchomp, ,metagross, cresselia, suicune, weavile, and some others. usually it gets me a win cause its an insane team thats made to handle all weaknesses.

Lol, I used to use Cloyster until I discovered that 90% of the people you defeat with it rage quit.

i find that about noobs named "ash" or "blade" who fall to my garchomp aka GODZILLA. lose without giving me a hit, they have like 1evel 12 oshawatt or something, then either ragequit or not cause there so confused. whats the point of going on the wifi matchup with level 10 pokemon if you know there are people with level 50 garchomps or something?

I know this is not a trick room site, but I love it when you use trick room and people use tail wind the round right after you use trick room. I could understand using it the first round before they know you are going slow. I could maybe understand using it after the second round in hopes of stalling out your trick romm and then outspeeding you on on the first regular speed turn.
Another thing I love is when people use their priority moves on pokemon who are low on HP but are doing the least damage to their team. For example a lot of time I use Togekiss to with Follow me to help guarantee I get Trick room going and I will use snorlax with Belly Drum to do my major damage and people will target Togekiss vs Snorlax. I am like whew I thought they were going to wipe out my Snorlax.
