3rd Gen Retail Cart RNGing
Hi you. If you're reading this guide, you are probaply wanting to learn 3rd gen retail cart abuse. Im not the best tutor, but I am pretty experienced in 3rd gen RNGing. Im trying to tell everything as simply as I can. This guide should be good for beginners and little more experienced one. This guide is all about how to do this on retail cart! If you want to correct anything, just leave me a VM!
What you will need?
- GBA or DS. In my opinion GBA is better to use when RNGing, but DS can also be used. 2 GBAs are useful for trading.
- Emerald, Ruby, or Sapphire, depending what you are going to do. This guide doesn't have probaply anything related to FR/LG cart, because it is much harder. FireRed and LeafGreen can be useful to get pokes for Emerald, but it's not necessary.
- EonTimer. You pretty much want to use it, because otherwise it's not gonna be fun.
- RNG Reporter for searching spreads and other cool stuff.
- Excel 2007 is needed for R/S ID/SID Abuse and Emerald Egg PID, but it isn't mandatory.
- Patience and time. 3rd gen RNG abuse isn't done in five minutes like 5th gen. It may take over 10 hours to just get one pokemon.
- Good IV calculator like MetalKid's.
Im not trying to scare you away with all those requirements. With enough patience you can get your own cool Seismic Toss Chanseys and other cool stuff.
What you want to obtain?
Because all the time it takes to RNG in 3rd gen, you probaply don't want to RNG pokes you can get easier in 4th/5th gen. These are the pokes you should RNG in 3rd Gen and why. I don't include stuff that usually requires emulator.
- Shiny in 3rd gen | Counter
- DynamicPunch
- Double-Edge | Counter

- Lvl 45 in R/S

- Seismic Toss | DynamicPunch | Counter

- SelfDestruct
- Double-Edge | Body Slam
- Recover | Hydro Pump | Rapid Spin at lvl 5 with Pomeg Glitch
- Tri Attack | Agility at lvl 5 with Pomeg Glitch
- Outside Poke Ball
You can try to get something else, but these are what you most likely should get first. If you think something else should be listed, just VM me.
How to begin?
Like every else RNG Project you should start by picking your target pokemon, preferably from list above, but if you have your own project you can do it also. When you have chosen your pokemon with exclusive moves, make sure you actually have parents/capturers or what ever you need to get it. It isn't fun to notice after breeding other parent you can't get other one.

Emerald breeding (IVs)
Don't go here if you haven't read post above.
For PID Abuse, check Hozu's guide
When you have done that, you can keep reading.
First, open up RNG Reporter. Stay in main window. Your method will be Breeding (Emerald No Splits). Choose your spread using IV filters. Lowest possible frame to hit is ~930, but because you would need button mashing for that, you should get frame between 2000 and 100000. For breeding it isn't worth going for higher frames, because you can find almost anything between them. And remember, even 100000 is 27 minutes of wait. So divide your frame by 3600 to get about time in minutes. (RNG Reporter does this for you already but...)
When you have found your frame, see those A's and B's? Thats your parent inherited IVs. So if your spread would be 27/A/A/7/B/12, Parent A, parent you first put in Day-Care, would inherit it's Attack and Defence, and Parent B would inherit it's Special Defence. For good spreads, you most likely need to RNG or breed your parents. If you want to RNG some good dittos, check Emerald capture.
When you have your parents, place them to Day-Care IN RIGHT ORDER, and ride with your bike until you get an egg. Save in front of the egg. Check if it has right gender/ability/nature. If it does, turn your game off, and open EonTimer. Open tab "Gen III". The one thing that might seem weird is Lag number. It's pretty much like calibrated delay in 4th gen. EonTimer adjusts it for you, when you enter your frame hit. First timer is when you Soft Reset. You can put it anyway you want, but 0-3 is preferred.
What you input to boxes?
Lag: Nothing, unless you know your lag from earlier.
First Timer: Between 0-3, what feels comfortable for you.
Target Frame: What is your target frame from RNG Reporter
Frame Hit: What frame did you hit, if it wasn't your target frame? If it's not close (+-3 frames) input it here. Then remember to hit Update, so your lag changes.
You are finally ready to start the actual RNG part!
First you need to start EonTimer. Reset your game when first timer hits 0. After that just button mash A till you get where old man says "Take good care of it." Then wait until your timer hits 0. Try to press A always at same time, so you would be more consistent. Then hatch your egg. Remember to have Magma Body/Lava Armor ability pokemon in your party to halve step amount needed. Check your pokemons IVs with Rare Candys or some other method. Check your frame hit with RNG Reporter, and update your EonTimer to get closer to your target. When you hit right IVs, you've done it!
Simple 8 steps to do Emerald RNG abuse.
- Start EonTimer
- Reset your game when first timer hits 0
- Button mash till old man says "Take good care of it."
- Hit A exactly when timer hits 0
- Hatch the egg.
- Check IVs and find what frame did you hit.
- Update EonTimer if needed.
- Repeat steps 1-7
With enough patience, you will be able to do it, but there is one thing, that can annoy you badly.
Emerald breeding methods. You can hit non-split spread, split spread or alternate. There is NO way to control method. Sometimes it gets over when you wait sometime and save again, or leave egg to old man and go do something else. This works usually just for split spreads. But don't worry, non-splits are most common!
Tips:
To check IVs, just check max stats for lvl 5. If they match, you might have hitted your frame. Now go to Battle Frontiers IV man, and check if gives you the 31 IVs. If don't, just Soft Reset OR check the frame you did hit.
Ruby/Sapphire breeding (PID/IVs)
I am not experienced with R/S breeding, so some info might be wrong. Please forgive me :)
Okay, first I have to warn you. R/S breeding is lot harder than in Emerald, because you need to hit 2 frames to get your target. First frame is hit when egg gets generated after 255 steps after setting your parents in Day-Care. Second frame is hit when you take the egg. But with this, you can also abuse the PID of the egg. And with TID abusing possible in retail cart you can easily breed shiny stuff when you learn this. And remember, you need Ruby/Sapphire with dead internal battery! (game has message "your internal battery has run dry" before you can start) Also remember you need to know your ID/SID if your going for shiny.
Find your spread in RNG Reporter (Time Finder->3rd Generation Time Finder and open tab Ruby/Sapphire shiny egg). Find you spread, by setting nature you want, gender you want, ability you want and shininess (prepare to wait for longer time if your going for shiny) if you want it. Frame held and Pickup frame can be from 2000 to 50000. I wouldn't suggest waiting for longer time. Put all parents IVs to 31 and click "show inheritance" and you know what IVs your parents need to have. Again you should also search with normal spreads, but if you don't find anything you can try your luck with alternate or splits spreads. Remember to put compatibility to "The two seem to get along very well"
When you have found your spread, get two spindas that are different gender, and from different games if you can. Deposit spindas to Day-Care and use Max Repel. It wears off after 250 steps, so after it wears off take 4 more steps and save. Then check your Egg Held Frame from RNG Reporter and put that to EonTimers Target Frame. When second timer hits 0, move last step. If you have egg, save in front of it. Check if it has right gender and ability. Then open Spinda Painter, and check your hatched Spindas PID. If its last half matches your target PID, you hit you Egg Held Frame. If you didn't, check what frame you did hit by putting Pickup frame min and max to your target, and Egg Held frames min and max to what you think you have hitted (+- 50 is probaply good). Update your EonTimer and try again. Now turn your game off without saving. Do it again with right parents for your project. You have calibrated now and you don't need Spindas anymore for this frame. With right parents remember to change compatibility to what it really is.
Put your Egg Pickup frame to EonTimers target frame. Soft Reset when first timer hits 0, and take egg when second timer hits 0. Now IVs and first half of the PID are set. Hatch your egg and find your frame by making Frame Held min and max to your target and Pickup frame min and max around +-50. Now you should also have your both parents exact IVs known. Try to find what frame you hit and update EonTimer. If your egg hatches shiny if you were aiming for it, you hit your frame. If you can't find what frame you did hit, check split spreads and alternate spreads. You should be able to hit your frame soon.
Gift Pokemon RNG Abuse for Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire
List of gift pokemons:

Gift pokes for these games are easiest kinds of RNG abuse. You do not need to waste your time hatching egg or catching your target everytime with premier ball or anything else like that. You just need to update your EonTimer and you should get your target easily. And with R/S ID/SID abuse you can get good shiny Method 1 gifts. You should also remember that like in 4th gen, synchronize doesn't work on these.
What should also be noted is, that only way to get shiny 3rd gen starter without breeding is abusing your ID/SID in R/S. With Emerald you can't do it on retail cart.
IVs are generated when you accept your gift (aka last A press before you get your gift). Gift pokemons are always Method 1. You just need to select good frame, put that to EonTimers Target Frame and keep updating it.
Method 1 for R/S/E
Method 1 RNG can be quite annoying sometimes, because there is only one starting seed for both games (0 for Emerald, 5A0 for R/S) so waiting times can be several hours! So it may take several days to get your project done. But there aren't too many Method 1 pokes that get good exclusives. And in Ruby and Sapphire you can get good shiny legendaries with retail cart ID abuse. Remember, synchronize doesn't work with Method 1! Also remember, you need dead internal battery Ruby/Sapphire for this to work. Here's the small list what you should definitely RNG in 3rd Gen.

- Shiny in 3rd gen | Counter (This needs to be ID/SID Abused with an Emulator)

- Lvl 45 in R/S (Do ID/SID Abuse, because you need Ruby/Sapphire anyways)

- Seismic Toss | DynamicPunch | Counter (Method 1 Keckleons with Steven Scope) (Only if you want it in cool ball)

- Seismic Toss | Counter (You should go for shiny in R/S, because there are better spreads than in Emerald)
RNGing these pokemon is simple, but slow. They all have their own lag, and it can be hundreds of frames. You may need to adjust it to EonTimer. But otherwise it's fairly easy. Get your catching party ready, and go to your desired pokemon. Save in front of it (incase of Groudon/Kyogre, save one step before auto-move) and shut your game off.
Open up RNG Reporter. Stay in main window. For both games, select Method 1. For Emerald, leave your seed empty. For Ruby/Sapphire, your seed is 5A0, if your battery is dead. Search for good spread using RNG Reporters by IV Filters and selecting few viable natures. You should just do 28+ in all desired stats. Even then it may take tens of minutes waiting time. Once you have found your Target Frame, put that into EonTimers Target Frame. Now, in RNG Reporter right-click your target frame and select "Center to +/- X seconds and set as target frame." In place of X set good seconds range for you. If your target frame is over 40 minutes, you should just put it as 5.
Then you are ready to go. Start EonTimer, soft reset when first timer hits 0, then do your last input (moving to Kyogre/Groudon, A press for other) when second timer ends. Do your battle and try to catch your legend. If your going for shiny one, and it is not shiny, just throw Master Ball to save some time. Check your nature and what your IVs are (no need for exact ones) and input them to RNG Reporter. You should find what you may have hit, and IV Ranges should make it sure. If you do not find anything, make your search wider. When you find what you hit, enter it to EonTimers frame hit and Update. Your lag probaply goes up a lot. It's normal. Now just repeat and try to be really consistent.
Wild captures for E/R/S (Method 2/H-2)
Wild captures for Emerald. They are one of the easier 3rd Gen RNGs. With being able to synchronize with Method H-2, it has big margin for errors. With little luck you may hit your frame and get right encounter slot in your first try. In R/S, you don't have the change to use Synchronize, but with ID/SID abuse, you can get good shiny pokes from R/S. It is just little bit harder. Only pokemons that are required to capture instead of breeding, are Shedinja outside Poke Ball and Dittos. You might want to capture few dittos for your future breeding projects and other.
Firstly open up RNG Reporter, and select Method H-2. Search your spread with seed 0 on Emerald, and 5A0 in R/S. Remember, you can't use synchronize in R/S. Remember to have right Encounter Slot for Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire. There aren't many good spreads in low frame, but in Emerald with synchronize you can get some spreads there weren't before to appear. When you have found your spread, center +- 1 second and set IV filters to exactly your spread, and have right synchronizer. When you are looking for what frame to target, check what has right Encounter slots and try to find what has same spread nearly next to it.
Now get your catching party ready. You are going to need a catcher, synchronizer and sweet scenter. For items, just get Repels, Escape Rope and enough desired balls.
Now, you need to use Sweet Scent to get pokemon fight you. Sweet Scent takes several seconds to do, so you need to find what frame you are hitting to calibrate lag for your sweet scent. Just go to some place without synchronizer, reset your game and aim for let's say, frame 5000 with EonTimer. Press A at Sweet Scent Screen when second timer ends. Check what frame you did hit with Encounter slots and IVs. Put that to your Frame hit, update and in Lag section, you have your average sweet scent lag!
Now, just do it like normally and put that lag you found to lag. It's gonna change because normal lag, but you are now hitting closer on the first time.
Start EonTimer, Soft Reset when first timer ends. Use sweet scent when second timer ends. Search what frame you did hit with IVs and encounter slots, calibrate your timer and repeat. You should hit your frame soon.
Roamer RNG in Emerald
Okay, firstly, this is probaply one of most annoying things you can do in Pokemon. Other thing that can annoy you even more is, that if you are going for non-shiny and want to catch it in proper ball, it's gonna take really long time for even one try. And you can't do this in R/S, because there is roamer IV glitch. You can do shiny one in R/S, but IVs are failed. You should trade some catchers to Emerald before you beat E4, so you can try to catch it in right ball.
Few things to note:
1. IVs are set when your mom asks if it's blue or red.
2. You can't track Lati@s until you see it for first time.
3. Have some around 30 lvl with repel when you finish E4.
4. Always fly to Mauville and go east to Route 118 when you hunt for Lati@s.
5. Trade roamer from other game so you can see where it is with Pokedex!
Finding spread is simple part. Roamer's are generated like any other legend, with Method 1. You should pick good enough frame, because if you are wanting to do this, you shouldn't satisfy with some 25/x/15/25/15/28 Modest spread. Lati's don't receive anything special from 3rd gen, expect they can get more ribbons. Pick the best spread you can find, you are going to waste lots of time on this.
Just beat E4 and save upstairs. Use EonTimer like before. Just run downstairs and go through dialogue, and when your mom asks if it's Blue or Red, pick what you want. Thats when IVs are set. After that fly to Mauville and go east to Route 118 with Repel on. If you don't find it just repeat until you do. Check the IVs and nature of your roamer. Find match from RNG Reporters list and update EonTimer. Just keep doing this until you hit it.
Ruby/Sapphire ID/SID without the spreadsheet
Okay. Some of you may not have Excel like me, and still want to RNG Abuse their IDs in R/S. This is as simple as possible guide to abuse your IDs without spreadsheet.
- Search what spread you want shiny. (Remember to use seed 5A0)
- Get PID of that pokemon.
- Use Pandora's Box to get any random ID/SID combo.
- Plug them into RNG Reporter.
- Change to Method 1 if you don't already have it.
- Search with shiny only.
- Pick shiny frame of over 4000.
- Input that frame - 75 to EonTimer.
- Check next frame of that frame.
- Change first half of the PID of that Pokemon to decimal.
- Start EonTimer and start new game.
- Your IDs are generated when you finish talking to Birch. (Last A Press)
- If you hit that TID, you did it!
- If you didn't, change the TID you got to hexadecimal.
- Search +-50 frames for PID that starts with it.
- Put that frame to frame hit, and update EonTimer.
- Repeat steps 11 to 16 until you hit it.
- Enjoy your RNG'd ID.
