What up.

In the thread in Stark (Heavy Offense), there was a slight discussion going on about how well hyper offense fares in UU, and some examples etc. I really liked that discussion but unfortunately it wasn't too long lived, so I thought I would open a discussion here.

Now I have a few questions for you guys and I would really like to know your opinions on these.

-What would fair better in UU - Special, Physical or slightly Mixed Heavy Offense?
-Have you ever built a succesful Heavy Offense team?
-Do the recent tier changes (Yanmega BL, Roserade OU, Rhyperior and Alakazam UU) affect the way Offense is played/used in your opinion?
-What are the best sweepers in your opinion for such a playstyle?

Of course any discussion is welcome here as long as it relates to the topic at hand. I'll post a bit more later when the discussion is going.

Tbh, with the amount of priority running round UU, you're going to need some way to get around that, through immunities, or just bulk. Things like LO Milotic seem perfect for this type of role, due to the fact it can take a good few hits, and hit pretty hard, with STAB LO Hydro Pump. Gotta give the mention to Techtop/Azu and friends, who help out hugely, picking off threats.

I agree with keelhauled about priority, it can put a huge damper on you if you're not prepared. However, since most priority attacks are physical, Rhyperior still has a chance. Now that its UU, it has a little more potential as to what it can do in its own tier. We may see some rock polish abuse from it and huge usage in UU. IMO, Rhyperior is the best way to go hyper offensive, because of its massive attack and defense stats.

I havent built a heavy offense team, but I plan on it in the near future. I'm actually very excited that I can use Rhyperior in UU now!

Entry hazards are great for UU hyper offense, as these kind of teams force switches by nature, so damage will swiftly pile up by the residual damage and sheer power. The best candidate for entry hazard support in hyper offense is Omastar, as it learns all three entry hazards, and it has a high Special Attack stat so it can do some damage as well as give much needed support

Problem is, KotW, offensive teams need the momentum in the beginning of the match. Ther wouldn't want to waste their time setting up six turns worth of entry hazards, that's what stall teams are for! And offensive teams won't want to use Toxic Spikes, as the only thing they stop is stall teams. Besides, heavy offense handles stall well. Most offensive teams will set up one entry hazard, either a) Stealth Rock or b) Spike stacking. And that' pretty obvious.

Agreeing with Keel, priority is godly in UU. Technitop is arguably the best priority abuser in UU. Sucker Punchers like Honchkrow, Aqua Jet Azu really are very dangerous, despite the low power of their moves.

I prefer Mix Offense with Heavy Offense. Omastar is definitely the lead for that job, getting down SR or Spikes down quite easily.

Offensive teams are probably the most common right now. What with all the new additions, and Umbreon is the only "defensive" pokemon that came.

Raikou, Alakazam, Gallade, and Rhyperior are all powerhouses and can easily fit on a team. Froslass gets the game started with Spikes and suiciding, and the numerous ammount of priority prevents you from being swept by other teams. Aqua Jet CB Azu and Sucker Punch Honch are probably the most common priority users used in Heavy Offense.

I think from looking on other teams and my own HO one there are two ways to play Hyper Offense in UU.

a) Using bulky (or fast) lead to throw spikes/stealth rock, few more frail attackers and one or two wall-breakers, which don't use stat-up moves like Mixed Blaziken or Honchkrow, based more on resistances then bulk. I think those type of teams appreciate to use pokemon, which don't concentrate only on one attacking spectrum (and mostly are mixed) and I still think that using pure special attacker isn't the best idea like in OU (now with Latias Special HO in OU is even harder), as they're easier to wall making your sweeping job harder. You don't want to Milotic being stopped by Venusaur, which switches in and cripples one of your team members with Sleep Powder, crippling your offensive power and for example cripples another switch with Stun Spore. I think Hyper Offense on special side in UU should stick with using ghost-types (Mismagius, SubCharge Rotom, Sweeping Drifblim, Haunter with Destiny Bond may also be interesting, as ghosts may set-up on many opponents and they don't mind that much some special walls unlike other types) or something that may use Explosion to take something with boom like Rock Polish Camerupt.
b) Making UU team a bit OU-Like with standard Dual Screens and abusing bulk, which those screens provides. I'm running this type of team and I'm satisfied. The main problem is that viable pokemon with both screens in UU are... Uxie and Alakazam, which Uxie is the only one with access to Stealth Rock (however, I think you may try to use Lunatone/Solrock as they're not that slow and Explosion is nice bonus to take something out). That type of team dislikes Taunt, however I can win matches even against opponent which abuse it. But it has one advantage - if you screw up, screen may help you tank some hits and stop from sweeping for example Raikou or Gallade. This kind of team also takes better priorities, which is good bonus as you don't want your sweep totally stopped because Rhyperior met Technitop and behind screen he can even set up on him.

When you guys talk about stopping priority, you have to realize that HO loves priority as well. And fast Pokemon.

Personally, I feel HO fails right now, simply because of its inability to take a hit, so it has to sac something, whereas a balanced or bulky offense team can just go to something else as you bring in a revenger, and hopefully force them to sac that as well.

It's a gutsy playstyle. Incidentally, could it run Pikachu then?
