Pokemon Platinum > Pokemon Gold and Silver

Group Maintained by Patriot JOSHUA

I'd like to dedicate this group to Lord Liam. This is for you bro! Look how far we've come!

SPOILERS

You've just fought an epic battle against Byron's massive steel-type pokemon on a platform loosely suspended a hundred feet in the air. Somehow you manage to escape with not only your life, but the Mine Badge. Your buddy congratulates you on your victory before you set off, and the second you step out of the gym-

THUD!!!

Your rival is right in your face! Oh no, I just got finished battling Byron! Is he going to challenge me again so soon? No, instead you're dragged to the library, unknowingly passing a member of the Elite Four on your way. Professor Rowan briefs you on what's going down, and suddenly one of the lake fronts explodes!

From here on, it's serious ****ing business as Team Galactic puts their plan into full motion. Your Gym Challenge takes a back seat, as more important matters unfold. You're forced to rush to each of the lakes to protect the legendary pokemon who live there, but each time, you're forced to eat your failure, as the Galaxy Forces have already gotten away, and are just toying with you- But one lake remains... There's still hope! You can still stop Team Galactic! You rush towards Snowpoint, with only one thing on your mind, and do whatever it takes. The Snowpoint City gym doesn't even register as a landmark to you, it's just an obstacle stopping you from protecting the pokemon.

You finally arrive, only to see your best friend defeated before your very eyes. In a split second, all of his efforts up until this moment have been turned to dirt. You can only speculate at the immense sorrow he's hiding behind his laughing face. You lend him a hand, pull him to his feet, and hang on to your pokemon as you fly off to Veilstone in a final, desperate attempt to stop Team Galactic. When you arrive, you're blocked at the gate to the Galactic HQ. You've tried so hard... but you still cannot get inside... There's nothing you can do.

But Looker arrives just in time, with the key to the building's back door, and your combine your might one last time to end Cyrus's threat, once and for all. You sneak inside, trampling Galactic grunts with your pure rage. You force your way through dozens of foot soldiers, until finally, you meet up with Looker again, as he watches a crowd stares at an empty podium.

Then he walks out. Galactic Boss Cyrus. Your fury overwhelms you, and if Looker hadn't held you back, you'd probably have tried attacking him, and given yourself away at the mercy of enough grunts to defeat the Pokemon League Champion with ease. Then he delivers his speech, and something deep inside of you is affected. His words... His goal... Everything he stands for... It just clicks... Has everything you've been fighting against up until this point in actuality been the side of righteousness? Justice? You need to speak to Cyrus one-on-one, so you can figure out what these feelings mean. So you can find out who's really the good guy in all this. You track him down, and ask for answers-

"You must have heard my speech. Very well. All lies, of course."

You succumb to every emotion you've been holding in, and let everything go in a fierce rematch with this man- this devil who toys with the emotions and dreams of men like they're soulless, little dolls. You overcome him, but you can't muster excitement when he's so reserved about it. He mocks you, giving you a grand prize for your accomplishment, and invites you to free the pokemon you embarked on this crusade to rescue, as he departs for Mt. Coronet. You juggle your options. You could chase Cyrus right now, and stop him from fulfilling whatever it is his sick mind considers to be "justice," but you decide to finish what you came here for, and after tossing a weak Commander to the side, you do just that.

Now it's personal. No bars held. You're prepared to kill Cyrus for everything he's done to you. You Fly one more time to the entrace of the Mt. Coronet, and scale its dangerous heights to catch up with that sick bastard who's on his way up there now. Half-way there- You run into Looker, who has followed the same path as you. Having worked with you for so long, and having a mind only for his work, he's come to think of you as his pal, his only friend. He consoles in you his weaknesses, and entrusts to you his one dream: to see Cyrus- to see all of Team Galactic finished off for good. You continue forward, leaving your friend to remorse over his inability to help.

You exit the dark interior of the mountain, and come to a bizarre alter which you have never seen, despite crossing the mountain on the back of a pokemon dozens of times. It seems calm enough... but that bastard Cyrus is just up ahead. You storm forward, ready to unleash your full wrath- and two more high-ranking Galactic Agents stand between you and the crime boss. They send out their pokemon, but you come to terms with the facts- you cannot possibly win this on your own. You're ready to give up and submit to the world Team Galactic plans to create.

BOOM!

He's here! The yellow-haired devil came! Since you last saw him, your rival has also walked a path of confusion, and has come out with his signature grin still in tact. You admire his mature decision making, and start to reconsider your path of revenge. He sends out his starter, his first pokemon, though it's now in its final form of evolution. You do the same, and the two pokemon stand side by side for the first time, even though they've been the keystones of your battles with each other. These pokemon represent how far you've both come since starting your journey not so long ago. They were once small and cute kids, but are now fierce adults who fight for what they believe in. Your erupting bonds make quick work of the final obstacles between you and Cyrus.

Your rival gives you a final hand, and dispenses the Sacred Ash he worked so long and hard to save up for, to heal your pokemon before the final battle. You march towards Cyrus, each furious step burning a hole, as Cyrus summons forth the Time and Space pokemon on to the mountain. Each one resonates with god-like power that could shatter reality if it went out of control. Three shining lights decend from the sky, eager to do what they can to stop this cataclysm in the making.

Cyrus cocks his head, and unleashes a deadly cackle, as he reveals that the Lake Pokemon you freed from the Galactic HQ are powerless to stop both of the monsters that he has summoned! All hope is lost.

And then it happens.

That thing opens a hole, and crawls into the real world, tearing a hole in the fabric of reality in the process. It grabs Cyrus, dragging him into the shadows to die. You watch him vanish into the portal, and you're overcome with the same renegade feeling of success that you just witnessed Cyrus enjoy a few minutes ago, and you yourself relinquish a laugh that mirrors the old man's perfectly. You stop when you see the terrified look on the face on Cynthia, a strong woman whom you had never before witnessed fear in. She alerts you to the fact that you must follow Cyrus and the strange pokemon into the Distortion World. You have to save Cyrus. You grab her hand, and jump in.

After a sickening trip through the distorted purgatory, guided by your mentor and the Lake Spirits, haunted by Cyrus and the dark pokemon, you arrive at the lowest platform, where Cyrus stands, waiting for you. He's clearly lost, but he has not lost sight of his goal, and you're in the way.

"Nothing so vague and incomplete as spirit can remain."

It becomes clear why your last battle was so easy. As you suspected, he was just toying with you. His real team of Pokemon far outweigh his previous team. You defeated him easily back in Veilstone, but now he's mopping the floor with you- You don't stand a chance against him and his powerful team. You struggle, trying desperate maneuvers and putting every potion in your bag to good use. After a long battle on the losing end... somehow... You win. You defeat Cyrus once and for all.

Cyrus cracks, and is consumed by his anger. As he storms off, he calls to you, ordering you to defeat Giratina and finish the job for him, destroying this incomplete world. You recall Cyrus' speech back at the Galactic HQ, and stand up, approaching Giratina as the world distorts in your wake. Cynthia calls out to you, begging you not to do this, but you keep going, determined to face these feelings head-on, once and for all. Your battle with Giratina speaks to you, and the shadow pokemon clears the shadows from your heart. Using the Master Ball Cyrus gave you, you restrain yourself, saving Giratina's life, and welcoming it into the team.

Cyrus refuses to accept this, and storms off into the deep reaches of the Distortion Realm, as you and Cynthia escape. The portal closes behind you, leaving Cyrus eternally trapped inside the world which will never be complete.

Thus ends the epic climax to Platinum.

What happens in Gold and Silver? Good Question.

You get some badges, climb a mountain, battle Red. You win, and the credits roll. Big whoop. Platinum is, and will always be a far superior game.
