  1. Battle Mechanics Research

When Klefki uses Crafty Shield, does it go before or after Fake Out? Tested in Le Nah with Espurr and Klefki, Crafty Shield goes before a faster Fake Out. Sounds useful.
  2. (VGC) Paradoxes, oh my! It's Trick Room!

Optimal would be 252 HP for sure, I am leaning toward having that spread with Quiet, but of course you can adjust it as you see fit. I haven't done calculations on things like Mega Mawile Iron Head (OHKO with max Defense) vs. it yet, so don't just slap that on without trying some calculations...
  3. (VGC) Paradoxes, oh my! It's Trick Room!

    128+ SpA Aromatisse Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Scrafty: 172-208 (100 - 120.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO 128+ SpA Aromatisse Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Hydreigon: 204-244 (102.5 - 122.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO 128+ SpA Aromatisse Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Garchomp: 108-128 (50.2 - 59.5%)...
  4. Instacheck Hotspot -- a fast Pokémon checker for XY

Is there work being done to make this an app for a phone? A lot of people don't have Wifi adapters in their computers but do in their phones, especially android phones that would be easier to program. I can set up a wifi hotspot with two phones I have but not one desktop computer.
  5. Nintendo VGC 2014 Official Rules

The official Nintendo VGC 2014 rules have been released by Nintendo. A direct link to the PDF is below: http://assets22.pokemon.com/assets/cms/pdf/op/tournaments/2014/Play_Pokemon_VG_Rules_and_Formats_2014.pdf The most important changes and additions to the rules this year are: Only Pokemon...
  6. Mega Tyranitar

The main reason why I wouldn't probably consider using Mega Tyranitar is due to the horrible weakness it has to Hitmontop, a very common double's partner. 252+ Atk Hitmontop Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mega Tyranitar: 372-444 (92.07 - 109.9%) -- 56.25% chance to OHKO That's just not a...
  7. Trick-or-Treat

If I were going to try and use Trick-or-Treat, I would try and use it offensively. Trick-or-Treat an opponent before a Ghost/Dark move hits and double your damage without the risks of Swagger, Screech or Sword's Dance. It can also be used on a team mate before you use Explosion to save them...
  8. Banette

Banette @ Banettite Trait: Frisk / Prankster (Mega-evolved) EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD (more or less, adjust for bonus points) Brave Nature - Shadow Sneak/Sucker Punch - Destiny Bond - Will-o-wisp/Thunder Wave/Disable/Trick Room - Protect/Substitute This is the set I plan to use as soon as I...
  9. Pokémon Banette

I think a set like this deserves an entire thread in the Doubles forum, but I bet it could hold it's own in singles just as well as a Sub-Disable Gengar could. The idea of being able to check for choice items with frisk before disabling threats is so, so strong, especially when you have...
  10. Battle Mechanics Research

I tested Disable and Encore. First turn, I disabled Leer on Pansear. Second turn, I encored Pansear. The Pansear that turn attempted to use Leer but it failed. No Struggle. Third turn, Pansear used Struggle. I am not exactly sure how it worked before, but that's how Disable + Encore work...
  11. Battle Mechanics Research

I just tested Retaliate. My Retaliate first turn did the expected double damage, and the second turn it did half that. So it functions how it did last gen.
  12. Data Updated Base Stats

In the case of Wigglytuff, Trick Room would have to be set up by another pokemon because it doesn't learn it. It also doesn't get Moonblast, which is practically required to secure KO's in doubles since Dazzling Gleam is reduced by 25%. Perhaps if it had both of those, it could be potentially...
  13. Pokémon Rotom-H

Rotom didn't get anything new this gen besides Fairy resist and neutral coverage against Steel. Doesn't this belong in the old mon mega thread? Otherwise every electric or fire type will clog the forum when there really wasn't anything significant changed to the actual pokemon being discussed.
  14. Ability Sand Veil + Snow Cloak - Balanced now?

    1. Nearly any pokemon can learn Double Team, and all pokemon can be passed evasion. How exactly doesn't it have a counter? Stat increases can always be Whirlwind/Roar/Haze'd away. 2 of those don't even miss anymore. 2. Accuracy in general is an inherent aspect of the game. Moves miss...
  15. Ability Sand Veil + Snow Cloak - Balanced now?

Critical hits are completely luck and are detrimental to the competitive environment. Why don't we remove those too? I realize Smogon as a community prefers to try and balance this 6v6 singles metagame to resemble some form of perfection, but the reality is that official tournaments are run...
