To ensure the pattern works, the player MUST switch in Shandera right after using Befriend so that the turn it switches in on is when the befriended Pokémon is loafing around. If you switch after gaining traunt, the opponent would have switched in Shandera.

As soon as Aianto uses befriend, switch out. That, in my opinion, is probably the only effective way to counter such strategy.
