  1. NU Stats - August 2013

Mandibuzz isn't just great because it beats some psychic types. If I had a problem with psychic types, I'd run Skuntank which is a catch all counter to almost every psychic type in the tier. Mandibuzz is most effective as a stall breaker and generally being an annoying prick that doesn't die...
  2. np: UU Stage 13 - Ghosts N Stuff

I think the only thing stopping Victini from banning is that it isn't too hard to check as some dangerous Pokemon outspeed it and it can even be trapped by the increasingly useful Weavile. In the discussion between Victini and Kingdra, I think that Victini is much more dangerous in that first...
  3. The UU Viability Ranking Thread

It's a simplistic answer, but the whole tier is just really unkind to pure water types. Raikou and Roserade are both top 10 Pokemon and Zapdos is just outside the top 10 at the moment. Every powerful fire type in the tier (the stuff that these bulky waters need to try and wall) have absurdly...
  4. np: UU Stage 13 - Ghosts N Stuff

This is a great point. Yes there are other spikers like Roserade and Qwilfish, but both of them aren't as useful on your standard offensive team as Froslass. Spikes Roserade is usually a bulky spread, while Qwilfish's niche is as a defensive Pokemon which doesn't complement a hyper offense team...
  5. np: UU Stage 13 - Ghosts N Stuff

Cursed body is a great, underrated ability. Even using your Froslass as death fodder can sometimes lead to situations that make your opponent in a shitty position. I pair it with a Pokemon that actually shares similar weaknesses (Chandelure is great as it is also a spinblocker and shares 3...
  6. Gen 5 The OU Viability Ranking thread

Choice Scarf Rachi has become pretty popular since Genesect's release and is very effective in this metagame because it outspeeds a lot of key threats. I have no idea how much you've used Jirachi, but all of the sets you've mentioned are effective and all can be excellent depending on what...
  7. Gen 5 The OU Viability Ranking thread

Jirachi's sheer versatility and ability to be put on any team makes it one of the best Pokemon in the tier. It works great as a special wall and has returned as one of the top CS users too and has a devastating Calm Mind set. I'd say it fits in S tier. I rarely make a team without Jirachi on.
  8. BW2 General Metagame Discussion Thread

Eh, it's no different to 4th gen when Skarmory used to run a bit of speed to outrun certain threats like CB Tyranitar (thus lowering it's defence by not fully investing). It's just adapting to whatever threats in the metagame and lowering Hippowdon's IV's by such a small margin is in no way...
  9. Rarely Used (RU) Tier

Choice Band users love reliable priority. That's why stuff like Scizor, Azumarill and Mamoswine work so well. Sucker Punch isn't really reliable. I'd probably avoid Sucker Punch for CB set. CB sets already require a bit of prediction without the burden of needing to predict an attack or a...
  10. Black & White Battle Subway Records

Hey guys, I've been trying out the Battle Subway a bit and I've been loving it so far. I've been having great success with CurseLax, which has single handedly won games for me so far. I just have a couple of questions: I've been trying to use DD Mence in the Battle Subway but have been...
  11. np: OU Suspect Testing Round 5 - Sandstorm (Excadrill/Thundurus Banned)

I ran Dual Screens + Memento Latios once instead of Uxie. I found the uninvested power of Dragon Pulse to still be useful, and it's a lot less likely that someone is going to bring in something that will set up on you. When people see Uxie, they might see potential set up bait, but that's less...
  12. np: UU Suspect Test Round 2 - Cold As Ice

That's because Celebi's typing and versatility suits OU a lot better. Plus no weak to SR helps. Victini is great but it wishes it could do some of the stuff Celebi can do (Baton Pass, sweep with CM/NP/SD, defensive with Recover+Natural Cure, run Choice Scarf without an SR weakness). Not saying...
  13. Smogon University PO Statistics — June 2011

Ferrothorn is as much an annoying prick under Rain in Ubers as it is in OU. Being a fantastic check to stuff like Zekrom and Kyogre definitely helps and there's a lot less scary fighting types used in ubers, from what little experience I have with it.
  14. np: OU Suspect Testing Round 5 - Sandstorm (Excadrill/Thundurus Banned)

From experience, Balloon + Magnet Rise Magnezone gets Rock Slide flinched 100% of the time.
  15. np: UU Suspect Test Round 2 - Cold As Ice

Roserade can beat most Raikou due to high Special Defence plus it can sleep powder and switch into something more threatening. Roserade is one of the better checks to Raikou as long as it doesn't have too many boosts and HP Ice. I'd quite like to try Raikou + Zoroark combo. Thanks to Grass...
