Purgatory

The main point is most definitely to burn things, because if it was all about power you'd choose Flamethrower or the many other special reliable fire moves instead. In Purgatory you take Flamethrower and trade of a lot of accuracy for a massive jump in burn rate.

That massive jump in Burn rate is a lot smaller when you consider Accuracy. On average, Purgatory is a move that has 50 Base Power and Burns 50% of the time. Will-O-Wisp will Burn 75% of the time due to its Accuracy, which is much higher than Purgatory on average. The 50 Base Power doesn't have it worth using offensively either, so its only use above Will-O-Wisp would be that it isn't stopped by Taunt.

If all you want is to Burn stuff, use Will-O-Wisp. :0 If you want to cause damage, you use Fire Blast, which has higher BP anyway.

So Purgatory is still effectively useless since it can't do either of the above half the time, unfortunately.

Although it will make every No Guard Machamp run in fear. A 100 BP special attack that instantly burns and always hits? Yikes.

Maybe some condition will present itself that makes fire moves moves 100% accurate.

Like Rain for electric moves.

Then everyone could just use Fire Blast over Purgatory the exact way they use Thunder of Zap Cannon.

This move is useless.

I think of Purgatory like a Willowisp that can't be taunted and can break subs in exchange for 25% accuracy and a lot of PP (and learned by about 80% less pokemon, and the ones left don't have tanking capabilities [yay torkoal?]). Unfortunately, the loss in accuracy alone is not worth those benefits, or conflict with them.

In other words, +1 for useless move.

other than a really cool name, this move has little going for it. if it gets wider distribution in grey, it Might be more viable. but I kind of doubt it.

I enjoy the prospect of this on Heatmor, Typhlosion, Lampent, and Chandelure (Hex).
Am unsure of other moves with similar accuracy.

Notable moves of 50% accuracy?

Heatmor gets Claw Sharpen, and is reasonably tanky with gluttony and his base stats. So you could run something like hone claws / sucker punch / inferno on him though it's definitely NU tier at best.

Looks good on paper, but poor in practice because:
-It takes 3 Hone Claws boosts to get Inferno to perfect accuracy
-Heatmor will most likely die before it gets up to that point due to its low Speed and defenses.
