Your warstory makes me regret not playing DP UU (I only read about it). I used to play DP UU before the Suspect Test, so it was limited to stuff like Kabutops, Poliwrath, Steelix, Claydol, Ninetales, Leafeon, Clefable, Hitmontop, Rotom, etc. The variations in DP UU after Suspect Testing has shot up and makes this metagame very colorful and appealing.
