Qwilfish is often overlooked due to its low stats; however, its typing, movepool, and ability (Intimidate) give it a specific niche in UU.

The set I have been using is:

Qwilfish (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Aqua Jet
- Poison Jab
- Thunder Wave

This set is pretty tailored to what my team needs. Obviously you can substitute Waterfall for Poison Jab or Taunt / Toxic Spikes / Destiny Bond for Thunder Wave. I'm really only using Poison Jab because my team has slight issues with Shaymin. Qwilfish's typing and Intimidate allow it to sponge hits from Arcanine, Victini, Heracross, and other Fighting and Fire-types. If these fire types are Choiced (as Victini and Heracross normally are) you can set up Spikes or paralyze a switch-in with Thunder Wave. After Intimidate, Choice Band Adamant Staraptor does 58.38% - 69.16% with Reckless Brave Bird. Qwilfish can sponge the hit and paralyze Staraptor or weaken it with Poison Jab/Waterfall + Aqua Jet. Due to the illegality of Pain Split alongside Intimidate, you will need to support Qwilfish with Wish. Luckily UU has a few great Wish passers. Qwilfish supports the team by absorbing Toxic Spikes.

A few other calculations:
Code:
Adamant Choice Band Arcanine Flare Blitz vs Qwilfish:
349 Atk vs 259 Def & 334 HP (120 Base Power): 87 - 102 (26.05% - 30.54%)
Adamant Choice Band Victini V-create vs Qwilfish:
327 Atk vs 259 Def & 334 HP (180 Base Power): 122 - 144 (36.53% - 43.11%)
Adamant Choice Band Heracross Close Combat vs Qwilfish:
393 Atk vs 259 Def & 334 HP (120 Base Power): 97 - 115 (29.04% - 34.43%)
Jolly Choice Scarf Heracross Close Combat vs Qwilfish:
232 Atk vs 259 Def & 334 HP (120 Base Power): 58 - 69 (17.37% - 20.66%)

According to Dougjustdoug's damage calculator, Adamant Choice Band Heracross' Close Combat at -1 Atk (factoring Intimidate) deals 28.4% - 33.5% to 334/259 Qwilfish.

Anyway I like this set

Qwilfish @ Focus Sash
Adamant nature
Trait : Intimidate
Ev : 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
-Waterfall / Poison Jab
-Aqua Jet
-Spikes
-Explosion / Destiny Bond

It can take out the ennemy lead, set up Spikes, and explode on the next pokémon (or destiny bond)

The calculations are correct. The calculator I used doesn't display the BP with STAB.

I peed myself when i saw that Qwilfish got Intimidate.... awesome.

Qwilfish @ Focus Sash
Jolly nature
Trait : Intimidate
Ev : 4 Atk / 252 HP / 252 Spe
-Waterfall
-Taunt
-Spikes
-Toxic Spikes

This is the lead set im running atm, basically it's double spikes + Taunt with Waterfall for when you get taunted. It works quite nicely if you lead with it on everything except for Azelf, except if its running Fire Blast instead of Psychic.

I did not see that quilfish got intimidate, that is really good for it. Water poison was always a cool typing, and with intimidate, quilfish just got a lot better at spiking up. Quilfish, froslass and roserade will probably compete for spiker on more offensive teams.

Is there any hope for Qulfish's rain dance/swords dance/swift swim set? The explosion nerf hits it hard, but it still has sexy poison STAB to take out grass and dragon types...

The biggest reason to use Qwilfish in Rain is still to absorb Toxic Spikes, as well as handily beat Chansey, since the majority run Toxic over Thunder Wave. Explosion nerf hit it hard though.

I tried using Qwilfish at the veeeeery beginning of OU, it didn't work. Sure it takes psycal hits, but it sure as hell can't take special ones.

I can't remember who, but somebody used this on the ladder against me with unimpressive (iirc at least) results.

YAY QWIlFISH!!
One of my favorite Pokemon.. especially back in 4th gen UU
However with Intimidate and it's typing, it really IS a solid counter and answer to most physical threats.
I find it surprising, it works well with a Cresselia/Chansey

Qwilfish(M) @Focus Sash
252 Atk/ 252 Spd / 4 Def
Adamant / Swift Swim
-Swords Dance
-Waterfall
-Poison Jab
-Explosion/Destiny Bond/Rain Dance

My Swift Swim Qwil for 4th gen
It can work as a lead with Rain Dance set-up, or main attacker for RD teams.
Sash is to take a hit and set up SD, if I fear a status I usually go into my status absorber and scout. Otherwise after a SD in the rain, Qwilfish is freakin' deadly.
-Options: Jolly, Life Orb, Flail, Aqua Jet
Jolly isn't that shabby, but I rather like to hit harder because with max Spd, Qwil is already pretty fast.
Life Orb might be good for power and stuff..
Flail is nicely coupled with Sash, and Aqua Jet is to block priority users.

I came up with a 5th gen defensive Qwilfish too.

Qwilfish @Focus Sash/Leftovers
200 HP/ 252 Def / 56 Atk (maybe some Spd)
Impish / Intimidate
-Spikes
-Waterfall
-Toxic Spikes/Taunt/Toxic
-Poison Jab/Destiny Bond

Yeah it is strange and stuff, but works out well with it's ability (I'd love to have Pain Split though :( )
Toxic catches opponents off guard and it's sometims better than T-Spikes (Hits Levitating or Flying Pokes), T-Wave can be optional..
Sash ensures at least a layer of entry hazards while Lefties increase my durability.
It is a great partner with Chansey though. (Wish Support + Special Wall)

I hope that ppl use Qwilfish more :DD
