Never forget the obscure

Edit: bah! how can I make the hp line up with the pictures since this forum seems to hate multiple spaces

Hello there, I've been lurking these forums for a little while but my internet has only just stabilised enough to actually start playing a few days ago. Being pretty inexperienced, I picked up a team that looked really good over on the RMT forum (http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3449717) and after a day or so tweaked it around a bit to match my playing preferences. It has changed a little bit since I had this battle and I've peaked at rank #10 lately which shows just how good that guy is at team building.

In the actual battle i'm cutting out all the rain messages and shrinking the various leftovers/iron barbs etc, my comments will be in Red.

If anyone could come up with a better title name I'd be happy to switch it, I've always been awful with names

I look at his team, see a ditto in the lead position and then fail to actually check what the rest of his team is (this catches me unawares a few times, so I shall be writing as if I don't know the rest of his team.

Ditto scares me so I take the option where ditto can do the least harm to me and switch ferrothorn to my lead.

He makes the obvious play here and switches back to Espeon on the predicted status - from his point of view, a leech seed was very likely and could have disposed of Shedinja swiftly. Sadly, I'm running spikes and stealth rock on this so that's not an option.

Espeon for bouncing everything back in my face
Genesect for constantly threating everything but Shedinja

Slops:
Latios for doing absolutely nothing
Me for chickening out with Ferrothorn on the second to last turn, although a rain-boosted Hydro pump might have koed anyway

MVP:

Ferrothorn for scoring two koes and just being almost impossible to stop

You're terrible predicting skills kinda turned me off from the warstory. His moves were really obvious for the most part.

I like the perish song -> ferrothorn to set up sr. I don't know why you didn't power whip the starmie...

You should really write down teams before battles...

well it was a good read and you made a good effort with formatting so well done there. I am at a loss however as to why at Turn 12 (?) when it was Ferro vs Starmie, you switched out to Genocent. You knew that Starmie was a Rapid Spinner, you had Rain to decrease a rare HP Fire and Power Whip (I imagine) would have OHKOed letting you keep your hazards up.

Basically not going for the power whip was a massive misplay, not much else to that really, my only thought process at the time was keeping all damage off Ferrothorn.

Originally, this team was actually meant to just be a fun, non-competitive team full of gimmicks! It only became my main team because it became so surprisingly successful (as gloated constantly in my sig). Shedinja is one such gimmick, but my experience with this team has allowed me to pretty much master the Shed Pokémon.

When I battle, rather than going head-to-head with power, I play tricks and mind games with my opponent, quickly using numerous forms of trickery to break my opponent's momentum, as seen in this battle. Oftentimes I also use my opponent's moves against them, like with Espeon's Magic Bounce.

Part of the reason I play with such cunning is because I think it makes Pokémon more fun. >:D

Ok, as soon as I opened up the spoiler for your opponent's team, this had my attention.

The battle itself felt somewhat lacking, but I really enjoyed Shedinja mindgames.

And the Nasty Plot Conkeldurr thing made me crack up :D

Nasty Plot Conkeldurr would pwn. Lol.

I actually thought that although the commentary wasn't long, it was insightful and level-headed. Some of the Ferrothorn-related hax hurt though, but otherwise the battle had very little of that. Fewer misplays would have made this a really awesome first warstory!

I can completely relate to forgetting your opponent's team! Whether we like it or not, some of us are still playing without team preview.

Nasty Plot Conkeldurr isn't a joke, guys. It's serious business. Nasty Plot/Focus Blast/Grass Knot/Hidden Power Fire sweeps unprepared teams.

Imagine a Conkeldurr using Nasty Plot.

Imagine a gruff, rough, tough guy with 2 fucking concrete slabs in his arms and a clown nose actually thinking.

There you go, that's why its funny.

Also, Shedinja ftw. 7/10.

it's pokemon, not a 6 month siege of a medieval stronghold. that being said chappers played in a ridiculously predictable manner but the format redeems the warstory somewhat.

Nasty plot Conkeldurr had me in hysterics. So did your mention of leech seed. Somehow he knew you weren't running leech seed, but how? It's not like he found out on the first turn of the battle.

...wait a sec...

NP Conkeldurr, so funny... I'd have switched to Thundurus just after the Nasty Plot. Print Screen + Paint is a useful tool to get your opponent's team if you don't have paper and a pencil close to you.

Apart from that misplay when facing Zoroark, there are all these overpredictions by Shedinja. TBH, your opponent fully exploited its abilities.
Wonderful format and passable comments.

Format: 10/10
Battle: 5/10
Commentary: 6/10
Overall: 6/10

Uhh guys the format was decent (but it still sometimes got really confusing) but that doesn't excuse the actual warstory, which is, frankly, pretty bad. I mean, both players were just outright pussies and didn't dare to try anything different or outlandish. You say that Shedinja walled you to hell but what did it do? Every single time it just set up SD before switching out when it could've just scored free damage. And seriously, just.use.power.whip.already. Starmie and Espeon could've been non-factors early on in the game if you didn't repeatedly try and use SR.

And no, the NP Roobushin wasn't *funny*, it was a horrible play. Any competent person knows that 1. Roobushin doesn't learn NP and 2. Fighting types are perfect disguises for Zoroark (you even saw that there was a Zoroark in team preview). All this coupled with short and undescriptive commentary and the fact that you tell the opponent crucial facts that could help them score a win adds up to one mediocre warstory.

My team in itself is different and outlandish. It grabs a bunch of fun gimmicks and puts them together, and somehow it works!

Also, am I a pussy for playing with nerd-brains rather than power? I play with brains and cunning mainly because it's a lot more fun. Not only that, but my play style actually got me as high as the top 50 in the Dream World tier, and I've remained in the top 100 for a while now.

This was a really funny warstory! The battle was filled with mistakes and facepalm moments but I felt they were rather hilarious and enjoyable to read! Espeon walling your Ferro over and over... and Latios staying in on a Nasty Plot Conkeldurr (doh). This obviously wasn't meant to be a showcase of Pokemon genius and player skill. It's nice to see a not so serious Warstory once in a while and the this was a funny battle with an interesting team. It's a thumbs up from me!

I kinda wanted to stop when you revealed that your genesect does not have flame thrower and is scarfed. Never reveal anything about your team to your opponent. Good read, though
I also liked how you recorded a losing warstory. Havent seen one of those for a while
Also, how is your team a gimmick team? It seems pretty normal to me.

You really love your Ferrothorn don't you? You sacrificed half your team to keep him safe. -_-
Other then that, it's clear you put effort into this warstory, but the misplays and your predictability around MB Espeon turned me off. 6.5/10
NP Conk FTW xO

I never like including chat messages in a battle. It's almost always irrelevant. Except when you reveal your Pokemon's moves (which you shouldn't).

5/10. The amount of misplays made this warstory hard to read. Format is good though.

machop you are being extremely obnoxious in your flaunting of supposed 'cunning', 'nerd-brains' and the like. please, stop trying to make it out that you're a super-special player who lives off his wits and devilry whilst using his wiles to beat his opponents into submission. that being said the warstory was actually pretty damn terrible, i was too nice earlier.

This is so incredibly true, it's really off-putting how you think that you're the only one in Pokemon with decent prediction skills and that you're "only at 45 because you're using gimmicks" and like seriously just shush.

This. Too many people are hating just because this warstory isnt just like all the others yet remains just as enjoyable.
