A Hailstorm a Day Keeps the Dragons Away

Status
Not open for further replies.
Alright, after examining the critiques of my previous two warstory attempts, hopefully this one will be the best one yet. It's a bit different; it's not weather wars, so my Hail has dominance- he does however have a very unique and aggressive team which contrasts nicely with my generally stall-ish team. His team actually is very well matched up against my own, which, combined with it's uniqueness, made this one a very interesting experience (at least for me). As usual, any thing you would like to see done the same or different, let me know in your comments :) Sorry that some of the percents are off

Usually, Team Preview is a pain, because they opponent usually ends up leading with whatever royally screws Abomasnow- and with seven weakness, that's not hard to find. Really it puts me at a disadvantage if I don't get it up immediately, because it can be very difficult to sneak Abomasnow in, what with it's weakness and general frailty. Gamefreak, you better give us a better Hail starter. And make Hail increase the Defense of Ice types (to make it truly Sandstorms counterpart). Anyway, lately I've been intentionally not leading with Abomasnow, so I can trap and kill (in most cases) their primary Abomasnow counter. It's generally fairly easy to tell what the opponent will lead with, except with opposing weather teams; in those cases, it's a toss-up between their own starter and their Abomasnow counter. Sun teams always go with Ninetales though. Oh wow. Somehow I managed to take a paragraph to say that Team Preview is an advantage here. It shows....

TEAM AMON AMARTH (in order of listing)

TEAM DR. KEVIN (in order of appearance)

This team is a bit harder to figure out than usual, because all of his Pokemon are capable of beating Abomasnow. Odds are, he won't risk Dragonite to a Scarfed Abomasnow's Blizzard. Alakazam he will want to save for a late-game sweep. Forretress will fall to an HP Fire, and while it may end up beating Abomasnow, that will mean he won't get his hazards. Gengar don't generally carry HP Fire, but they do have Focus Blast. However, odds are he will stick with either Breloom or Darmanitan. My bet is, he'll pick Darmanitan, because Breloom isn't likely to OHKO with Mach Punch, and will fall to Blizzard. Not sure how the speeds match up, but I think Breloom is faster (70 Speed over Aboma's 60), so he may go with that for the Spore. I'll lead with Chandelure, because it easily beats Breloom, though it can't handle Darmanitan. But then again, what really can handle Darmanitan? It's mother?

Heh. I really expected Darmanitan, why he didn't chose it is beyond me. May as well torch that sucker, what else is there? And yes, I know Shadow Tag Chandelure is cheap. I myself hate facing it. I chose it 'cos the synergy works so beautifully with Hail, immune to Fighting and resist to Fire? Yes please. Flash Fire isn't a bad option either, for immunity, but being able to trap the likes of Genesect, if they don't U-Turn is invaluable.

There we go. Dragonite really would've been a better choice, it could've gotten a free DD on this, but whatever. Darmanitan is pretty frail, but it's good HP and resist to Fire will let it beat Chandelure now. Earthquake or Stone Edge/Rock Slide will be coming, but he knows I have to switch, so it could be U-Turn. Well, if it's U-Turn, there is not much I can do, but the only Pokemon I have that can really take both Earthquake and Rock Slide is Swampert, who will pretty much force it out. So, in it goes.

Awesome. It's Life-Orbed. Even though this means only Swampert will be able to take it, it also means that Darmanitan will not last long at all. Between Life Orb, Flare Blitz recoil, Hail, and maybe even Stealth Rocks, this things days are numbered. It also means that Chandelure is guaranteed to otuspeed it, if I need to revenge it. It's curious that it took Life Orb recoil, I thought Sheer Force prevented Life Orb recoil, unless this has Zen Mode O.o

That is so annoying. Why does Rapid Spin even DO damage anyway? Pokemon are so bad dancers that it makes the opponent laugh to death? Speaking of which, what is up with this game and dancing? Dragon Dance, Swords Dance, Quiver Dance, seriously, WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT DANCING. Someone make a memo, Volcarona needs to audition for Dancing with the Stars. May be ugly as all get out but nothing can dance like that littler inferno moth. Torching the opposition is a nice touch too. If you can't beat 'em.... assassinate them.

Umm where was I again? OH RIGHT, Rapid Spin. Yeah Tentacruel won't be able to beat Gengar if it has Thunderbolt, and I can't afford to lose my spinner until his Forry is dead and rocks are gone.

Ruh-roh. Well, may as well go ahead and spin them, so that Regice can come in and beat the overgrown lizard. That's right, Regice. Only a bulky Dragonite carries Thunder Wave, and that means it will have Roost as well. Yes, some Dragonite carry Fire Punch, but my gut is that it has Earthquake instead. Because it's bulky, it won't have as much invested in Attack, and if Regice can take a +2 Dragon Claw from an offensive Dragonite, it can take one from this. Blizzard will be powerful enough to kill it, now that Multiscale is broken by Rapid Spin (lol now the damage actually comes in handy). It may be strong enough even through Multiscale.

Regice may seem like a curious choice, but it's quite simple. The protect here will give Regice more health for when it faces Dragonite, and it will mean that Darmanitan is dead at the end of the next turn. However, Protect will most likely fail next turn, and Flare Blitz will just as likely KO Regice, and that cannot happen. This is why it sucks to have two Ice types against a Darmanitan. Regice's Encore ended!

Start of turn 45
[DR]Kevin called Alakazam back!
[DR]Kevin sent out Dragonite!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Dragonite!

Regice used Blizzard!
It's super effective!
The foe's Dragonite lost 51% of its health!
The foe's Dragonite fainted!

Hail continues to fall!
[DR]Kevin sent out Forretress!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Forretress!

Now this I don't get. Why did he switch? I can freely Blizzard now and there is no hope that either Dragonite or Forry can win. Does he seriously expect Alakazam to beat Regice one-on-one, without Encore? He might have had a shot here if he sent Forry in first, THEN Dragonite, which wouldn't take a Blizzard full in the face.

Start of turn 46
Regice used Thunderbolt!
The foe's Forretress lost 9% of its health!
The foe's Forretress fainted!

Hail continues to fall!
TIMDOR: got this
[DR]Kevin sent out Alakazam!

It's all over. Perhaps if Alakazam get Encoring, he coulda pulled it out (no, that's not what she said), but Alakazam has no hope.

Start of turn 47
The foe's Alakazam used Psychic!
Regice's substitute faded!

Regice used Blizzard!
TIMDOR: maybe
The foe's Alakazam lost 64% of its health!
The foe's Alakazam was frozen solid!

Hail continues to fall!

Really unnecessary, even if Focus Blast had hit, it wouldn't be strong enough to finish Regice off.

Start of turn 48
The foe's Alakazam is frozen solid!

Regice used Blizzard!
Team Amon Amarth: yeah I do
The foe's Alakazam lost 35% of its health!
The foe's Alakazam fainted!

Team Amon Amarth won the battle!
Team Amon Amarth: You chose to stand and fight, and died with dignity
Team Amon Amarth: gg

GG Dr. Kevin.

I'll wait until you finish to actually comment, but...

It's curious that it took Life Orb recoil, I thought Sheer Force prevented Life Orb recoil, unless this has Zen Mode O.o
Sheer Force only prevents Life Orb recoil for moves that it boosts. Earthquake doesn't have a secondary effect, so it's not Sheer Force-boosted, hence LO recoil.

But if he were to run Bulldoze over Earthquake he wouldnt be taking any recoil. Then with Sheer Force + Life Orb on 60 BP would equal 101 compared to 130 that Earthquake rises to with LO.

Its taken you a few tries but you've finally done it. This warstory is excellent in almost all regards. 9.6/10

Your easily in the top three, but I recommend for the future you try a non hail team. You have a bunch of hail warstories and your kind of running the idea dry.

This wasn't even that good. Over half the battle involved you stalling with Regice. Generally people don't want to see "Substitute, Protect, Protect, Protect, Protect, Substitute, Protect, Protect, etc" when they watch a Warstory. I just didn't enjoy this at all.

Eh, it wasn't "an idea", that's just how I play. I ALWAYS use Hail teams, even before I got the idea to do a warstory.

This is your thirth Warstory in 2 days.

Take a break, enjoy the metagame while playing on the ladder and most of all improve your skill at the game. There is absolutely no need to turn every goddamn battle you had into a Warstory nor is there anyone pressuring you to do so.

So please, refrain from making Warstories untill you've become considerably better at the game(obtaining voting requirements for example would be a good start) and experienced an interesting albeit thrilling battle which you believe, everyone should see.
