But basically some guy decides to blow up a bomb in the middle of oslo probably as a deterent and then decides to go to a camp dressed as a police officer and starts shooting everyone. Reports say he lured them in and just started shooting. Some kids went towards him because they thought it was a drill or something. Some kids tried getting away by water but it was too cold and the guy was shooting people in the water anyway. This guy is atrocious. Norway needs to create the death penalty to deal some kind of justice here.

Do you know any people involved with this? Please, no political talk. Who gives a flying fuck what wing he was on.

From what I have heard it was some people that did managed to swim over, was about 600m to land. Some of them drown thought, and some got shot =(

What happened is completely crazy, I feel so sorry for those who didn't make it and/or lost their loved ones. Must've been a nightmare for the kids involved.

So there's folk saying Al-Qaeda was behind the attacks, while the perpetrator looks like a neo-nazi according to other folks.

Regardless of the situation, he's an ass and really needs getting hoist by his own petard for this stint.

‎"Tomorrow we will show the world that Norway's democracy grows stronger when it is challenged … and that the answer to violence is even more democracy, even more humanity, but never naïveté." - Prime Minister Stoltenberg.

Incredible words. I hope they follow through. Condolences to anyone impacted by the attacks. I can think of a country that could learn a lesson from Norway's response to this disgusting act of terrorism.

Everyone wants to play the blame game to feed the fear machine. It's a damn shame that this is what American media has come to. 80 people are dead, mostly children, and all these leeches can do is trick people into blaming stereotypes. I don't know if news outlets in other countries are this bad, I hope not for their sake.

Watching American news coverage of this reminds me of Orwell's Two-Minute Hate from 1984. Turn on one channel and all you hear is "he's a right-wing Christian fundamentalist anti-Islamist!", the next channel "he's a left-wing neo-Nazi!", the next channel "he's a member of al-Qaeda!". It's sickening. Everything about what the guy was thinking (i.e. thoughtcrime) and never anything about how tragic his actions were (double plus ungood)

Apprently he have been published a "book" on the internet a few hours before the attack. It contains a diary about how he planned the attack for the last 80 days or so. Its like 1500 pages long, thought from what I heard he haven't writed everything himself.

I heard he was planning it for years. 80 days is certainly too short to plan such an attack. From what I've heard he was very systematic, for instance pretending to be addicted to WoW to suggest a reason for his lack of social life.

I went to bed and they were estimating 10 deaths from the shootings, woke up and it was fucking 84. Children, younger than myself and God knows how much I'm looking forward to in the next 12 months. The relatively low death toll from the bomb is perhaps the only consolation given the images I've seen of the bomb's impact.

I heard about this today while visiting my relatives' friends.

guy is fucking crazy, kills lots of people. not much more I can say about it other than the fact that I hope the families of the about 200 (is it 92+85 or just 92?) people he killed can be at peace and allowed to mourn. the people he killed did not deserve to die, especially the kids at the camp.

j7r, of course they do that; the media has to get every drop of news out of this story before it becomes dead. more discussion means more viewers means more money. (on a side note, please do not turn this into a media thread)

anyway, it's sad what happens when insanity and idiocy come together.

You know what's sad? The Amy Winehouse thread (about the death of an addict) has 4x as many posts as the thread about an actual tragedy where >80 people died.

I sincerely hope peace returns to Norway

Yeah this is tragic, I only just read about this and man this is some of the most atrocious crimes i've seen committed by a single man. RIP to all who died, and I hope the man who did this is publicly brought to justice.

It is both terrible and unbelievable that a person can have the mental capacity to kill another human, let alone plan the systematic execution of so many people.

My thoughts are with Norway in the hope that they can recover from this atrocity and help those who were effected by this.

This is horrible.

I don't believe in death as a punishment , however, what this man has done is unacceptable and I really don't hope the death toll increases.

My heart goes out to all those who's loved ones are lost.

the thing that gets me the most is that this guy kills people that have nothing to do with his "cause". just inosent people that should not of died

Well, it was a Socialistic camp apparently, the "wrong wing" in his opinion.

Anyways, this doesn't justify what he did, nothing can. This guy should be tortured the rest of his life, should be kept alive as long as possible to suffer as long as possible. I might sound like a sadist or something, but he deserves it. I would do it myself (not saying I will, but there must be ppl out there who agree).

It should be published how this guy suffered as an example to people who think of killing.. My god, what a moron.

Ugh, makes me sick.
I generally avoid paying attention to terrorism, especially in other countries, but reading about this in the paper this morning made me feel physically ill.
Poor Norway.

Now going that far would be too much, its like the old saying if your friend jumped off a cliff, would you too?
Seriously this guy is a sadist moron, but that doesnt mean that people should do sadistic mornic things to him, hell he deserves it, but that doesnt mean people should tortue him for the rest of his life. In my opinion, if anyone would realy think of torturing him for the rest of his life, is just as sadistic in my opinion.
Yeah pretty much half of the people discussing this would agree with you, but if you were confronted with the task of torturing someone for the rest of their lives, would you do it?

do you actually think that fear of retribution is something he considered when going through with this?

This is a terrible atrocity. My heart goes out to the loved ones of the deceased and to the people of Norway as a whole. To experience the kind of rage that man must been going through as he massacred these people is something I hope I never understand.

It seriously bugs me that people on my Facebook have been posting more about the death of Amy Winehouse.

Your response to an atrocity is suggesting Norway should institute another atrocity?

I completely agree with j7r.

Norwegian Constitution said:
No one may be convicted except according to law, or be punished except after a court judgment. Interrogation by torture must not take place.
so by extent i'm guessing torture is banned as a criminal sentence as well, just a guess

most first world countries directly prohibit cruel and unusual punishment as a sentence anyway (eighth amendment et al) and quite frankly rotting in jail for the rest of your life is punishment enough

It's kind of weird they captured him alive.

Usually in these situations, they will force a gun fight with the police force or just suicide.
