Cubchoo's
abilitySnow Cloak—makes it a great Pokemon to use in a hail team. It has very high Attack and Special Attack stats, though its downfall is that it has low defensive stats. Cubchoo also has weaknesses to common priority attacks such as Bullet Punch and Mach Punch. Despite these flaws, Cubchoo can function as a powerful attacker, and should not be ignored when building a team.

[SET]
name: Hail Sweeper
move 1: Blizzard
move 2: Surf
move 3: Hidden Power Grass
move 4: Toxic
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Snow Cloak
nature: Timid
evs: 76 HP / 200 SpA / 196 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Cubchoo can also make an efficient Scarf user in hail. This set aims to hit as hard and fast as possible with a powerful, accurate STAB Blizzard. Surf KOes Fire-types who pose a big threat to Cubchoo. Hidden Power Grass hits the Water-types who resist Blizzard and Surf.
Toxic is a useful move to hav in its arsenal. It prevents Slowpoke from switching in for free. The disadvantage of Toxic is the fact that it gets locked into the same move and in-case a Steel-type switches in, then Cubchoo will be forced to switch out.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The EV spread enables Cubchoo to hit the 21 Speed needed for Choice Scarf users to outspeed all unboosted Pokemon in the tier, while maximizing its Special Attack
. Snow Cloak allows Cubchoo to dodge moves occasionally and thus last longer. Timid is a must in order to hit 21 Speed, due to Cubchoo's low base Speed. Snover is an essential teammate to Cubchoo since it can set up hail. Flash Fire support prevents Cubchoo from getting KO'ed and allows another Pokemon in your party to get a free boost. Cubchoo is also helped by Ghost-type support in the form of Gastly and Duskull, which check Fighting-type Pokemon.

[SET]

name: SubPunch
move 1: Encore / Yawn
move 2: Substitute / Protect
move 3: Focus Punch
move 4: Ice Punch
item: Oran Berry / Eviolite
ability: Snow Cloak
nature: Jolly
evs: 76 HP / 196 Atk / 196 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Cubchoo can run the good old SubPunch combination. Yawn is a useful move to have, as it has perfect accuracy and induces sleep, though the one-turn wait can be an issue at times. Encore is useful to lock the opponent into setup moves
, or any move for that matter. This is useful as it allows Cubchoo to set up Substitute and make it easier for Cubchoo to sweep. With STAB, it hits even Pokemon that are neutral to Ice-type attacks hard. Focus Punch allows Cubchoo to hit several Pokemon in the Little Cup metagame really hard, and thanks to Substitute, Cubchoo doesn't have to worry about getting attacked when it uses Focus Punch. Protect works well with Yawn, helping Cubchoo waste a turn and put the opponent to sleep safely.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

When hail is set up, the efficiency of this set becomes higher since some
Pokemon will miss their attacks, making Substitute last longer. This set hits 14 Speed, which lets it be outrun by numerous Pokemon, including all Scarf users. Protect is meant to be used with Yawn, while Encore is meant to be used with Substitute. Eviolite is useful in giving Cubchoo more bulk, which is useful because Cubchoo is pretty frail as it is. Oran Berry is used to gain HP when Cubchoo is using Substitute. Flash Fire support through Houndour is useful to Cubchoo since it prevents Cubchoo from getting walled by Fire-type Pokemon and with Flash Fire, and some prediction, Houndour can pick up a boost for itself.

[Other Options]

Cubchoo can successfully run several other sets, such as a RestTalk set. Cubchoo can run a special set with a Life Orb, but it has poor Speed. It can also run a defensive EV spread and a support set with decent success. Hone Claws is Cubchoo's only option if it wishes to raise its Attack. Avalanche is also a good option on Cubchoo.

[Checks and Counters]

Priority users such as Croagunk are the bane of Cubchoo's existence, KOing it with Bullet Punch and Vaccum Wave, respectively. Frillish and Tentacool resist both Ice Punch and Focus Punch, and thus can be good checks to the SubPunch set. Growlithe resists Ice-type attacks, and KOes Cubchoo with its STAB attacks, but needs to watch out for Surf. Steath Rock also poses problems for Cubchoo, as it will lose a quarter of its HP each time it switches in.

[Dream World]

Cubchoo receives an interesting Dream World ability in Rattled. It raises Cubchoo's Speed when it is hit by a Dark-, Ghost-, or Bug-type move. This can be very useful on offensive and support sets. Unless you are running a hail team, Rattledshould always replace Snow Cloak.

Cubchoo is able to can run the good old SubPunch combination. Yawn is a useful move to have, as it has perfect accuracy and induces sleep, though the one-turn wait can be an issue at times. Sleep is always useful in Little Cup and as such Yawn is a good move. Encore is useful to lock the opponent into setup moves or any move for that matter of fact. This is useful as this can allow Cubchoo to set up Substitute and make it easier for Cubchoo to sweep. Ice Punch allows Cubchoo to hit Gligar. With STAB, it is useful in hits even Pokémon that are neutral to Ice-type attacks hard. Focus Punch allows you Cubchoo to hit several Pokémon in the Little Cup metagame really hard, and thanks to Substitute, Focus Punch can be used Cubchoo doesn't have to worry about getting attacked when it uses Focus Punch. Protect is a protective measure that prevents you from taking a hit after using Yawn Protect works well with Yawn, helping Cubchoo waste a turn and put the opponent to sleep safely.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

When hail is set up, the efficiency of this set becomes higher since some Pokémon will miss their attacks and the, making Substitute set-up lasts last longer. This set hits a 14 Speed, which is not too fast and can be a disadvantage when facing Choice Scarfed Pokémon or even Pokémon with a higher speed Scarf users and Pokemon with higher Speed. Protect is meant to be used with Yawn, while Encore is meant to be used with Substitute. Eviolite is useful in adding extra bulk to Cubchoo giving Cubchoo more bulk, which is useful because Cubchoo is pretty frail as it is. Oran Berry is used to gain HP when you are Cubchoo is using Substitute.

[SET COMMENTS]

By the use of 3-4 types in this set, it allows Cubchoo to get good coverage and is able to hit several types. Thanks to STAB Blizzard in Hail, you are able to hit several Pokémon, making serious dents in them Cubchoo can also make an efficient Scarf user in hail. This set aims to hit as hard and fast as possible with a powerful, accurate STAB Blizzard. Surf is useful as it can hit KOes several Fire-types who pose a big threat to Cubchoo threats and KO them. This is useful because Fire-types otherwise would be severe threats to it. Hidden Power Grass is useful in hitting Water-types who would otherwise be good checks to Cubchoo. Echoed Voice is a new move in Generation five, which plays the same role as Fury Cutter, but has 100% accuracy. Hidden Power Grass hits the Water-types who resist Blizzard and Surf. Echoed Voice, although very weak initially, increases in Base Power with every use and is accurate. It is useful on a Choice set, as where you are limited to one move and even one miss can cost you a lot Cubchoo is locked into one move and one miss can prove to be costly. Ice Beam is present to preserve PP on Blizzard Blizzard's PP, and give Cubchoo a reliable STAB option to fall back on in case the weather changes.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The selected EVs EV spread enables Cubchoo to hit the 21 Speed needed for Choice Scarf Pokémon users to outspeed everything all unboosted Pokemon in the tier, while maximizing your its Special Attack along the way. Snow Cloak is good as it gives Cubchoo a better chance to dodge moves and would allow Cubchoo to last longer in a game Snow Cloak allows Cubchoo to dodge moves occasionally and thus last longer. Timid is a must in order to hit the 21 Speed, due to Cubchoo's low Speed stats. Snover is an essential teammate to Cubchoo since it can set up hail.

[Other Options]

Cubchoo can successfully run several other sets, such as a Rest and Sleep Talk RestTalk set. It can also run a Special set, since it has relatively high Special Attack stats and has access to a large movepool. It can also somewhat run a support set. Cubchoo can run a special set with a Life Orb, but it has poor Speed. It can also run a defensive EV spread and a support set with decent success. Hone Claws is Cubchoo's only option if it wishes to raise its Attack. This could be very useful in several sets. Avalanche is also a good option on Cubchoo. Since Cubchoo has a low Speed stat, investing in HP and defenses could work.

[Checks and Counters]

Meditite is a good counter to Cubchoo, since it can Bullet Punch or Drain Punch along with Pure Power, it can easily KO Cubchoo. Croagunk is also a viable counter since it can come in and use Vacuum Wave and KO Cubchoo. Priority users such as Croagunk and Meditite are the bane of Cubchoo's existence, KOing it with Bullet Punch and Vaccum Wave, respectively. Frillish and Tentacool resist both Ice Punch and Focus Punch, and thus can be a good check to Cubchoo to the SubPunch set. Growlithe resists Ice Punch and hits Cubchoo with Fire-type moves and so can KO it, though it must beware of Cubchoo carrying Surf. Stealth Rock can take 1/4th of Cubchoo's HP. Dokkora is also a notable counter, since it has access to STAB, Priority and super effective attacks. Growlithe resists Ice-type attacks, and KOes Cubchoo with its STAB attacks, but needs to watch out for Surf. Steath Rock also poses problems for Cubchoo, as it will lose a quarter of its HP each time it switches in.

[Dream World]

Cubchoo receives an interesting Dream World ability called Rattled. It raises Cubchoo's Speed when it is hit by a Dark-, Ghost-, or Bug-type move. This can be very useful in on offensive and support sets. Unless you are running a hail team, this ability is very useful Rattled can always replace Snow Cloak. In a Hail team, Snow Cloak is obviously more useful than Rattled.

You should put Toxic in the last slot of the Choice Scarf set, as Ice Beam is a lesser option as its pretty easy to keep Hail on the field (thanks to the only other auto weather changer being Hippopotas), while anything is better than Echoed Voice. Toxic on the other hand, makes it so Slowpoke can't switch in for free, as HP Grass only does: 15 Atk vs 18 Def & 27 HP (70 Base Power): 10 - 12 (37.04% - 44.44%)

Make the SpA EVs on the Scarf set 200, since it uses HP Grass.

Choice Scarf set should probably be the first set listed seeing as it is arguably the most effective.
