Pokémon XY General Discussion

Okay, you guys work WAY too fast. It is NOT fun catching up on 50+ pages when you're a slow reader and some of you post essays, which makes me groan (looking at you Yveltal, no hard feelings though, it was insightful). So, while listening to the developer roundtable conference, and having watched the Nintendo direct (while checking in on Serebii), I have made notes on a pad that I wish to discuss here. While going through said 50+ pages, I have crossed out things that have already been discussed to avoid sounding redundant. Here's what it looks like:
-Music (touched on by Trainer Yusuf)
-New move called Bravebird?! WTF?!
-Importing Pokes not possible yet (talked about)
-They clearly avoided talking about Clefairy lol
-PSS=GTS+C-gear (talked about)
-They didn't expect IV/EV related questions (touched on by Trainer Yusuf)
-IV/EV more easily viewed (talked about)
-choose hairstyles (talked about)
-lol, they're surprised we noticed the 8-way movement (talked about, called it)
-Rollerskates=free movement? (touched on)
-ash-named reporter that likes Pokemon, everyone lols
-"streaming" music?
-more than 1 rival? (talked about)
-more than one place to ride your pokes (talked about)
-Sky Battle, yes or no C:
-"typed" treats
-"You've already met the first Fairy-type Pokémon...Sylveon!"
-Horde battles, all opposing Pokes attack one after another (talked about)
-What's so bad about Talonflame?
-GF doesn't want us solo-ing with a dragon in-game (touched on)
-Flabébé's flower (talked about)

To start off, when I was listening to the roundtable, and they demoed a live battle about 25 minutes going in, I shat bricks. It sounds amazing and I'm so looking forward to orchestrated music being able to be put directly into the game, since they aren't stopped by game limitations now.

The translator made a mistake, or Junichi did? They said, "...aaaand here's a new move.... called Brave Bird" seriously -_- that's almost as bad as the guy who thought Rhyhorn was a Rhydon.

Here's what I DON'T like about the compiled Q&A thing on ?pokebeach? I think, they didn't say the full question NOR the full answer. While asking about the Fairy type and how it "suddenly showed up" they ALSO asked if CleFAIRY was gonna be retconned into this type. The answer you guys have read was pretty much what they said. I'm not concerned about how they dodged the fairy introduction question, I'm MUCH more concerned that they dodged the Clefairy question.

They didn't expect IV/EV related questions, but are including something for them to be more easily viewed/adjusted. So, do they look at the competitive scene or not? I always thought they didn't. I'm rethinking it now.

They said that while using the rollerskates, it would simulate a "free-movement" feeling. So will the 8-way movement become smooth while using the skates or simply free-movement is the question on my mind now.

I laughed with the other reporters about "Ash", it was indeed funny.

I like how we have the option of accepting or declining a Sky Battle, maybe we this option against normal trainers? False hopes, I know.

The part on their website where they said "Sylveon really liked that treat!" bothers me, will there be 18 different treats? Each 1 for a type? That WAS a pink treat that Sylveon ate. Fairy treat?

This is on their site, "You've already met the first Fairy-type Pokémon...Sylveon!" soooo.... Xerneas/Yveltal aren't part Fairy?

Just want to touch on this a bit, since it seems people are still confused: In horde battles, the opposing Pokemon WILL attack one after another. The reporters laughed because Junichi was getting a beatdown by the underlevelled Houndour. MahouRedZ beat me to the explanation though.

I really like Talonflame as a name for it. I legitly cannot understand the hate for it. I counted 2 other users who share this opinion.

So GF doesn't want us to use dragons to break the game, yet they have level 8 Axews, logic.

It's symbiotic, but it still bothers me that the flower is bigger than the Pokemon itself, much more so. I'm okay with small stuff with the pokes like Marowak and Farfetch'd, but that's too much. I'm not even bothered that it's a Fairy type. Burmy does the whole "bigger than body" thing better imho.

SO, there are my thoughts. So I hate reading essays yet I wrote one myself, oh the irony.

Since the rumors from Pokébeach are pretty much confirmed by now (although we should not take them as facts yet) are we at least allowed to talk about them here?

And I've wondering about this for a while. The "damage sound clip" that plays when you're hit by an attack is different depending on if you resist the attack or not. We could analyze the trailers to see if this works the same way on X and Y and if that's the case we could apply this to the Fairy attacks from the trailer. Iirc according to the rumors Fairy type was not effective against Fire type and Flabébé attacks Litleo with Fairy Wind.

EDIT: Yeah, it does! And since the difference is little I'm not sure, but I think that Litleo resisted the attack!
That's pretty interesting. Because of this, I think we could take the rumored type chart as true (at least I will...)

Yeah, and we could also apply this to other attacks from the first trailer. Golurk received neutral damage from Chespin attack, for example, so it cannot be a Dark type attack.

I never really got the love for R/S remakes. Much of the reason for the 1st/2nd gen remakes was because you couldn't receive the Pokemon in that region anywhere else. Ruby and Sapphire are also pretty universally known to be the worst of the main series games too.

I hear posts like this all the time, it's funny that Pokemon fans will take anything as a hint for a new game.

I'm not sure if it's just me but I really hate the look of those 3 rival-ish characters.
Thank you I thought the 3rd gen was easily the worst. The worst map and the worst pokemon. The 4th gen was my third favourite so far. The vast majority of people that even like the 3rd gen are the genwunners too. 70% of genwunners say pokemon lost creativity after the 3rd gen.

Anyways I highly doubt there will be remakes because in case any of you people noticed but we have been getting all the 3rd gen legendaries these past few games. In HG/SS we got Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza. Then in B2/W2 we got the Regis. This kinda tells us they do not plan on a remake.

One good second opinion deserves another, so here we go!(the bolded bits are what I find important, bear with me)

I'm sure that Game Freak has always been mildly aware of the competitive circuit. If they didn't hold official tournaments, then I would believe that they genuinely didn't care at all about competitive players, but they have to create a game based around the storyline first. It's part of the reason as to why so many of the Pokémon are the way they are, especially the ones found early on, from their typing to their abilities, stats, and movepool. One-time use items were certainly a step towards mixing up competition between players, as were dream abilities and ev-changing items & services. Being able to see how our Pokémon are growing more clearly than before will allow for useful Pokémon to be raised with more ease. I'll agree to the notion that it's a bit cop-outish, and raising tough competitive Pokémon doesn't mean as much when you're not putting your heart and soul into learning every hidden training niche that the game has, but it's certainly a step in the right direction.

Looking at the newest trailer, you can see how much more fun skating looks than walking or running. We can see how much more fluid it appears, so their big selling point is moving more beautifully in double time.

Much like with triple and rotation battles in-game, I think it only applies to certain trainers who are "specialists" in that type of battle setup

I noticed that the treats were colored similarly to pokeblocks and poffins. Maybe that Sylveon had a hankering for sweet(pink) food, and Pokémon still have an affinity for certain flavors of treats?

They might mean to say that Sylveon is the first Pure Fairy type listed in the Pokedex. We won't know for at least another month what Xerneas and Yveltal's typing is to see if one or both of them were the first officially revealed Fairy Pokémon

After finding the right affliction for Talonflame and saying it enough times, I've gotten used to it :3

Hey man, don't knock Flabébé's flower!

Also,
virtual console is on 3ds, too, though... he might be dodging the question again idk.
Shiruba, they said they didn't want to do that because trading your Pokemon would be an almost impossibility. Again, they didn't post the entire answer. I posted new things that we could discuss and yet...

Edit: Nevermind, thank you Yveltal

Chespin used Aerial Ace. It is same move that Talonflame used in one trailer. Check out this post.
hmmm.....what if they were both using Nightslash? I can't really see chespin's final evo being part flying (I know it doesn't really mean anything about final evos, but I can't help but think its a hint)...

Edit: Also, I couldn't hear the sounds signifying SE and resistant damage for the first trailer in which the move was used...

Dodrio and Doduo have wings, they're just small. Also, that is a good point, since that family line is meant for running and (according to Japan) Jumping really high.

Also, Gyrados and Carnivine says hi.
Carnivine levitates, no problem about that. Its weakness to flying would be a big problem though.

About Gyarados, even in regular battles it flies in mid air so it wouldn't be that outrageous.

Who said that just because Chespin learns Aerial Ace, he'll become part flying? He might not even learn it by level-up, it may only be taught through TM. The same argument about Chespin becoming Grass/Flying for knowing Aerial Ace can also be made for Chespin becoming a Grass/Rock, since we've been shown that he can learn Rollout via level up(unless you get Rollout as a TM really early on, and Chespin is able to learn it)
Not that a Grass/Flying Finalpin wouldn't be fun to have for the sake of sky battles, but it doesn't seem like it should be the immediate response.

What's the problem with it? We already have almost 100 berries and I though that would have something to do with them, either that or we'll be able to make muffins or blocks again (which I liked doing)

I was, like many people on this forum, thinking that the moves used were symbolic in the matter of their future types. Fennekin obviously used a psychic move and Froakie a fighting move (IIRC, circle throw....actually i don't remember). Chespin's move was debatable but Pokebeach's source (which has been correct in every matter so far) says that its gonna be grass/dark, so I'm saying that maybe it's Nightslash because of the parallelism and crap.

OR, it could not be Aerial Ace entirely, MAYBE Talonflame can use Night Slash *gasp*
Wait, did Haunter get the SE damage sound from the attack when used by TalonFlame?
First... I couldn't find any info that move is actually Aerial Ace! I'm sure I read somewhere that Talonflame can learn it, but because there is no proof that it is Aerial Ace, I really think that it could be NIGHT SLASH OMG. Also not sure if it made supper effective sound because Sylveons fairy move (cant remember name) made a Critical hit sound (I think.. but text said "It is super effective." -so maybe Critical Hit part just wasnt shown in text because trailer...) As for Fairy Wind I couldn't hear anything weird about sound other than the normal sound of Fairy Wind.

Edit: Froakie used Wake-Up Slap

In the new trailer, we see Flabébé hitting Litleo with Fairy Wind.

Annoyingly, they showed it in a battle without any kind of messages. We could've seen right there if Fire resists Fairy, but no… of course not.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to skating. Who thinks we could have a spiritual succesor to the Acro Bike? Think about it. Maybe we could use a triple axel to cross ledges…

I never really liked making those things, which is I guess where that dislike is coming from. Minor nitpick.

Froakie probably used Quick Attack actually, since we know it learns it by level-up.... or TM? lol

But we have the sound, right? someone determined it to be the "Not very effective" sound, so fire is resistant to fairy.....technically

Indeed. Also if they would have shown message of Talonflame vs Haunter or Chespin vs Golurk we would know if move is Super Effective against them. Anyway as I said I really think Chespin and Talonflame can learn Night Slash and it makes even more sense because they both used that move against Ghost types.

It should be pointed out that, currently, the only Pokemon that is capable of learning Aerial Ace by level up that is not a flying type is Heracross.

However, a great deal of Pokemon can learn it through TM. It's well distributed.
