thanks faint! unfortunately i didnt register so the site erased my data...and im not doing it again so google the album cover or something if youre that interested in my music taste (or lack thereof)

a few things...

i'm pretty big on hip-hop — some of my favorites are the wu-tang clan, a tribe called quest, lil ugly mane, darc mind and nujabes. more recently i've been getting into 'noise rap,' e.g. clipping., death grips (exmilitary is one of my favorite albums of this decade, while midcity is a fairly strong contender for my album of the year). oh and also pretty much anything that mf doom touches is good in my books. aesop rock can be enjoyable too. spaceghostpurrp isn't a good lyricist but he's a lot of fun and the instrumentals are almost always great. i also really like the stuff that's coming out of the black hippy collective; kendrick's obviously put out some great stuff in the past few years but i was pretty fond of control systems.

maybe 'indie rock' is a pretty generic term, but i really dig stuff like why?, built to spill, women, grooms, titus andronicus, pavement, the dismemberment plan, etc. also going through a noise rock/post-hardcore phase at the moment, from the more post-hardcore end of the spectrum (young widows, the jesus lizard) to stuff like boredoms, melt-banana, etc.

i halso ave an affinity toward music with really noisy and very repetitive beats and i think that might be why i'm more of a fan of early swans than later swans. sometimes when i'm feeling morose or vaguely angry i just listen to a few songs from filth and it's strangely cathartic for me.

a couple of miscellaneous favorites:

foetus - hole
have a nice life - deathconsciousness
flying lotus - cosmogramma
slowdive - souvlaki

I listen to a great variety of stuff and various genres, a lot of which I couldn't list because I haven't listened to their full albums.

I can't believe I'm doing this again. I made one before, but I eventually concluded making another would be less effort than digging it up again. I limited myself to one album per artist; obviously I'm a huge fan of the other Crystal Castles albums too, and picking between Show Your Bones/It's Blitz! and The Soft Bulletin/Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is really, really hard for me. Going through this list + my last.fm to check that I didn't miss anything, I realised I really gotta listen to some of this stuff more, lol. Oh, yeah, this site was really fuckin' buggy for me, but just functional enough.

I listen to a fair amount of edm as well but it's not really well represented in my albums list for various reasons, heh. And I mostly listen to it on yt. I really enjoy catchiness so I listen to a lot of upbeat pop (incl. Korean and Japanese), but it depends on my mood what I'll seek to listen to. I can appreciate good acoustic music but I definitely prefer synth-heavy music with high-pitched sounds and it makes up a good amount of my music library now.

This was so hard and I know that it's miles off perfect as is but oh well
a few of these are on there more due to sentimentality attached to them rather than greatness

also I've never got all the neutral milk hotel hype at all, I'm going to listen to them again now though

edit: nope... of the two songs on it which I liked enough to consider listening again to (the eponymous song and Holland, 1945), one was based on maybe the most unoriginal chord sequence ever and I didn't like the production of the other one. I don't like his voice much, it's all 'too american' if that makes sense (this makes me sound like a silly anti-American British snob but I can't think of a better way to say it... maybe what I mean is too folky?) and I don't get it :(

also why on earth is Oh Comely so long, it's probably the weakest song anyway and 8 minutes of it is ridiculous

for a while i thought the same thing. i didn't really get into neutral milk hotel till i gave them a legit shot. but to this day i can't get into radiohead. i find all their music bland and overrated as hell, and i've tried getting in them multiple times.

no no, i've heard them many times & understand why people like their sound, i just don't think it's revolutionairy or great. also thom yorke is a whiny bitch, and i would probably enjoy the band more if it weren't for that.

oh damn, that's a speed metal masterpiece? Know anything else like it?
nothing really comes to mind (although not for the want of trying) other than 'the privilege of power' (i.e. their next album) which is has grown on me a lot once I got past the ridiculous synth horns

Honorable Mentions:
King Crimson: In the Court of the Crimson King
Meshuggah: Koloss
Mutemath: Armistice
Gnarls Barkley: St. Elsewhere
Ozzy Osbourne: The Essential Ozzy Osbourne
Eminem: Curtain Call
The Beatles: Rubber Soul
Flyleaf: Memento Mori

Most of these actually just represent the bands that I like the most. I would've been comfortable posting any NIN or Mastodon album, I just felt like I should only do 1 per artist.

EDIT: I'd also like to say that everyone here has posted at least one album that I really like. That's pretty cool.

One Direction spam begins.

I honestly only listen to EDM, and for some reason I have something against pop music. I don't know why, just I absolutely despise it with all my being. Kill me.
