I would also be in favor of moving the Sand Rush set above Assault Vest as it is really deadly even though it requires some support. AV is good, but not a fantastic set you sacrifice a lot power and speed and even though you can abuse your geat defensive typing better it makes it a lot easier to switch into.

Assault Vest Excadrill let's itcan take on strong Sspecial Aattackers (such as Kyurem-B), and more importantly, it allows it tocan Rapid Spin against foes that would ordinarily OHKO it. An example would be the matchup against Choice Scarf Rotom-W. Ordinarily, Excadrill would ordinarily have to make the decisiochoose between to switch, oring out and staying in to predict theon a potential Volt Switch. Assault Vest Excadrill can ignore that element altogether, aHowever, Rotom-W's Hydro Pump doesn't come close to OHKOing, and Assault Vest Excadrill, so it can use Rapid Spin regardless of what the opponent does.

Rotom-W is the quintessential Excadrill teammate, as it has an easy time switching into Excadrill's weaknesses, and can take on its checks and counters. Excadrill has very little in the way of other options. A Choice Band set can be used as a powerful attacker, thoughbut it's very abusableeasy to take advantage of due to its reliance on its Ground-type STAB, and is nowhere near as versatile as the Choice Scarf set. Hone Claws can be used to maximize Rock Slide's accuracy, but aside from that, it's outclassed by Swords Dance. Excadrill is one of the most reliable picks in the current metagame, and for good reason: it's arguably the best Rapid Spinner in the game. In addition to being a fantastic Rapid Spinner, Excadrill also brings its versatility to the table,(comma) and as such, it can be used on nearly any team. Excadrill is an absolute powerhouse in battle; it sports an impressive base 135 Attack backed by a solid STAB combo and potent abilities. Mold Breaker allows it to shut down would be counters such as Rotom-W, whereas Sand Rush turns it into a solid revenge killer/sweeper. Excadrill's only setbacks are its meager defenses and its weaknesses to common attacking types. (what about below average speed?) However, don't let these things dissuade you from using Excadrill in a defensive manner, as its poor defenses belie an excellent defensive typing that allows it to check some prominent Pokemon such as Thundurus. All in all, Excadrill is a top-notch Pokemon with a skill set that allows to perform a variety of roles.

However, don't make the mistake of playing recklessly; if your opponent has a strong Excadrill counter and you don't need to use Rapid Spin, it's best to keep Excadrill away from battle, even if it means wasting turns that sand is in play. This variant of Excadrill can be used as a revenge killer or late-game sweeper depending on the state of the match. Swords Dance Excadrill should look for a setup opportunity to break walls or cores. That said, until you find a clear opportunity to set up, it's best to just attack whenever possible, as Life Orb-boosted Earthquakes deal significant damage. Attacking on the switch to weaken checks is also encouraged. Rapid Spin Excadrill should be played as an offensive threat with the ability to spin away hazards when the opportunity presents itself. I don't think that's necessary. Air Balloon is used for its temporary advantage against Ground-type attackers. Beating them isn't nearly as important (since Swords Dance isn't very common), but being able to use Rapid Spin or Stealth Rock without fearing an OHKO is huge. (Hence why I said "extra turn")

Furthermore, it's one of the best offensive checks to Thundurus due to its immunity to Thunder Wave. That said, it's rather easy to take advantage of. A Choice-locked Earthquake or a weak coverage move can give your opponent an opportunity to set up or deal serious damage. With that in mind, you have to rely on prediction or its teammates to deal with Pokemon that counter Choice Scarf Excadrill.

Team Options
========

Good partners for the Choice Scarf set are the same as for the Rapid Spin set. Rotom-W is a staple Excadrill teammate for Excadrill, as it has an easy time switching into moves that Excadrill is weak to. It can also cover the Pokemon that can potentially switch in on and take advantage of Choice-locked Excadrill, such as (Ground-immune Pokemon such as Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Mandibuzz). Garchomp and Tyranitar can be used to lure and take out Excadrill's checks and counters. Pokemon that appreciate the removal of Stealth Rock make for acceptable partners, though it's worth noting that Choice Scarf Excadrill is considerably less effective at removing entry hazards.

The Speed gained from Sand Rush significantly improves Excadrill's offensive presence, improving its ability to revenge kill or possibly even sweep. Adamant Excadrill's Life Orb-boosted Earthquake hits hard; with a bit of prior damage, it is capable of taking down most Pokemon in a single strike. The effectiveness of Iron Head and Rock Slide as coverage moves is noticeably enhanced by the Life Orb boost. In particular, Excadrill is capable of 3HKOing Mandibuzz with Life Orb (which is relevant if Rock Slide flinches Mandibuzz). The last slot determines how this set is played. If Swords Dance is used, Excadrill gains the ability to break through sturdier Pokemon such as Mandibuzz and sweep entire teams outright. On the other hand, if Rapid Spin is used, it can provide the team with semi-consistent anti-entry hazard support in addition to functioning as a top-notch attacker/revenge killer.

Set Details
========

While Adamant is the primary nature for its sheer power boost, Jolly can be used to ensure that Excadrill at least Speed ties with opposing Sand Rush Excadrill and outspeeds max Speed base 80s Speed Pokemon outside of sand. A bulkier spread can be used if you're only concerned with outspeeding walls without sand support, as Sand Rush Excadrill with even minimal little Speed investment virtually outspeeds virtually the entire metagame. (put virtually afterwards so it's more clear that it describes the entire metagame.)

Usage Tips
========

A Sand Stream user equipped with a Smooth Rock is practically a must, as five turns aren't enough for Excadrill to sweep. After setting up sandstorm, it's imperative to bring in Excadrill as early as possible to maximize the amount of time Sand Rush is active. However, don't make the mistake of playing recklessly; if your opponent has a strong Excadrill counter and you don't need to use Rapid Spin, it's best to keep Excadrill away from battle, even if it means wasting turns that sand is in play. This variant of Excadrill can be used as a revenge killer or late-game sweeper depending on the state of the match. Swords Dance Excadrill should look for a setup opportunity to break walls or cores. That said, until you find a clear opportunity to set up, it's best to just attack whenever possible, as Life Orb-boosted Earthquakes deal significant damage. Attacking on the switch to weaken checks is also encouraged. Rapid Spin Excadrill should be played as an offensive threat with the ability to spin away entry hazards when the opportunity presents itself. It's best to keep attacking for the most part unless your opponent has a Pokemon that completely counters Excadrill.

Team Options
========

Sand Stream users such as Tyranitar and Hippowdon that are equipped with Smooth Rock are strongly recommended as partners for Excadrill. Tyranitar and Hippowdon have the distinction of being durable, making it easier to bring back sand when it runs out. As always, Rotom-W is an excellent partner due to its fantastic defensive synergy with Excadrill and its ability to safely bring Excadrill into battle with Volt Switch. Landorus is a solid offensive partner, as it shares certain checks and counters with Excadrill, meaning that they can weaken each other's checks and counters.

After equipping an Assault Vest, Excadrill gains a massive boost to its Special Defense, granting it more opportunities to use Rapid Spin. Earthquake is still a fairly strong move despite the comparatively lower Attack investment, and it still has the ability to target Pokemon with Levitate. Iron Head and Rock Slide are Excadrill's coverage moves, and are its best options for dealing with most Ground-type resists. Shadow Claw can be used to deal more damage to bulky Ghost-types, but the lowered Attack investment and lack of a boosting item make it a subpar choice in general.

Set Details
========

The EV spread guarantees that Shadow Ball from standard Aegislash is a 4HKO at best. Most non-super effective special attacks will barely put a scratch on Excadrill. While the suggested spread tries to strike a balance between offense and defense, it can always be tweaked to suit your needs. For example, an EV spread of 252 Atk / 252 Spe can grant Excadrill more of an offensive presence, while a spread consisting of 252 HP / 252 SpD with a Careful nature can make Excadrill significantly sturdier bulkier on the special side.

Usage Tips
========

Assault Vest Excadrill can take on strong special attackers such as Kyurem-B, and more importantly, can Rapid Spin against foes that would ordinarily OHKO it. Against Choice Scarf Rotom-W, Excadrill would ordinarily have to choose between switching out and staying in on a potential Volt Switch. However, Rotom-W's Hydro Pump doesn't come close to OHKOing Assault Vest Excadrill, so it can use Rapid Spin regardless of what the opponent does.

Team Options
========

Rotom-W is the quintessential Excadrill teammate, as it has an easy time switching into Excadrill's weaknesses and can take on its checks and counters. Garchomp and Tyranitar can be used to lure and take out Excadrill's checks and counters. Pokemon that appreciate the removal of Stealth Rock make for great partners as well.


Other Options
########

Excadrill has very little in the way of other options. A Choice Band set can be used as a powerful attacker, but it's very easy to take advantage of due to its reliance on its Ground-type STAB, and is nowhere near as versatile as the Choice Scarf set. Hone Claws can be used to maximize Rock Slide's accuracy, but aside from that, it's outclassed by Swords Dance. Substitute can be used over a coverage move to ease prediction and block status moves.

Checks & Counters
########
**Physical Walls**: Excadrill generally has trouble breaking through physical walls. Pokemon such as Gourgeist and Hippowdon can typically switch in and force it out without much resistance, and the former can spinblock as well. They should be wary of Swords Dance Excadrill, however, which can break through Gourgeist and Hippowdon if it's running Shadow Claw and Air Balloon, respectively.

**Bulky Pokemon Immune To Ground-type Moves**: Excadrill struggles mightily against these Pokemon, as it's deprived of its primary STAB move. Landorus-T, Gliscor, Mandibuzz, and Skarmory can easily switch in and have their way with Excadrill, though the former two should be wary of Air Balloon, while Mandibuzz should be wary of a Swords Dance-boosted Rock Slide, especially if Stealth Rock is in play.

**Super Effective Moves**: Faster Pokemon with super effective moves can typically OHKO Excadrill, but most of them can't switch in directly. Special attackers should also be wary of Assault Vest Excadrill, as it's significantly harder to OHKO. Super effective priority moves (Such such as Aqua Jet and Mach Punch) can typically pick off a weakened Excadrill. Examples of Pokemon in this category include Azumarill, Garchomp, Greninja, Conkeldurr, Mega Charizard X, and Mega Charizard Y.

**Tanks That Resist Ground-type Moves**: These are Pokemon that can usually switch into Excadrill without much worry, but are slower than Excadrill and lack recovery. In other words, these Pokemon can only check Excadrill on a temporary basis, provided that they're healthy. Pokemon such as Chesnaught, Gyarados, Mega Heracross,(AC) and Breloom can typically switch into Excadrill's Earthquake, but should be wary of boosted coverage moves. Breloom has the distinction of carrying a super effective priority move.

Is Excadrill OU or Uber this Gen? I've skimmed through, and don't see any real mention of it anywhere. I mean, it looks like OU, but I'm not sure.

PK Gaming I know this is done but it's been a while and it probably ought to be updated...

- Move Scarf to the first set. Rather straightforward, it's been the most effective set in the meta for a while. An effective revenge killer and spinner when you need it, and immune to para is a great bonus, Scarf Exca is extremely good.

- Air Balloon should really be the only item on the Rapid Spin set. Leftovers is too passive, really, for Exca to get a lot out of it, as it isn't really taking a lot of hits and stays in for 1-3 turns at a time. Plus avoiding EQ is so useful, even allowing it to serve as a somewhat decent check to non-CC Mega Pinsir, and actually allow it to safely spin vs Lando-T if it has to, as well as basically have free rein vs EQ Toxic Hippowdon. It should definitely be emphasized that this is the set to use if you're looking for a reliable spinner that won't be losing momentum after a spin as Scarf would.

- Jolly is worth slashing in for Balloon. It lets you outrun Kyurem-B and most (Adamant) Mega Char X, as well as things like the occasional Modest Mega Char Y, which is useful. There's a definite loss in power, but having the extra Speed is nice.

I wouldn't say this is 100% true. I've seen people use plain, like, Mega TTar teams with Sand Rush Exca, just because it's so good. Even if you just have a few turns of sand, it's worth it to have that great Sand Rush boost on Exca. For that set you should definitely mention that it is brutal vs offensive teams that rely on lot on things like TWave Thundurus and LO Deo-S for their Speed control. I'm tempted to say it should be the second set but that's probably taking it too far -- it is very good atm though.

I think you could organize C&C a bit better. Bulky Ground-types (Hippowdon, Gliscor, Landorus-T), bulky Grass-types (phys def Mega Venu, Chesnaught), bulky Steel-types (Ferrothorn, Skarmory) should be the main focuses. When you're mentioning super effective attacks, Keldeo and Terrakion (especially Sash SR) are big things to mention.

Rapid Spin should be first on that list as it is the point of the set. Also Rock Slide would be better if you didn't have 3 attacks for SlideQuake as a way to hit Flying-type, levitating and pokemon on balloons. I personally prefer SD to SR, but that is personal preference, but for my order I will use my preference. This would mean that the order would go as follows with your set:

move 1: Rapid Spin (up 2 slots)
move 2: Earthquake (down 1 slot)
move 3: Rock Slide / Iron Head (down 1 slot, changed order)
move 4: Swords Dance / Stealth Rock / Iron Head (changed order, added Iron Head)

Other than the slight order issue, I prefer your set to the one up now. Ultimately though, it is up to QC to decide which is better.

Also, on a side note, I feel that AV has got a little outdated as Mega Charizard Y has become the most common pokemon - and for good reason - which is suddenly making its job as a special sponge that much harder. Furthermore...

In that top 18 most used pokemon list, 10 of those pokemon surefire beat AV Excadrill and 3 are situational counters to AV Excadrill.

This shows how it is beginning to reach a point where the AV set is becoming outdated. I would move it to OO and, until the day comes where it is not beaten by at least 1/2 of the top 20 most used pokemon in the tier (before including mega evolutions), I would leave it there, but keep the set saved somewhere so that it can be added to the analysis again if it once again becomes useful in OU.
