For those who don't know, UPL is a team tournament where the best players of multiple Ubers metagames duke it out.These are the 6 teams that will be in the tournament as well as the mangers and their official IRC channels:

To get onto a team, you first need to sign up in this thread by posting with the following format:

We ask for your name for organization reasons and for the auction (will come to that later). The metagames played are those that you have experience in and are willing to play (so what a manager can expect to put you in and see success). Inactivity is simply if you have any extensive period of time where you will be unavailable, (for example, gone on vacation for a week in early May) this is incredibly important for the managers to know so that they can do their best to make sure the team doesn't suffer from inactivity.

After signing up, the next step is to go advertise yourself to teams to increase the chance of getting bought in the auction. The best way to do this is to go onto their individual IRC channels and follow whatever process they have for tryouts.
In case it wasn't clear already, IRC activity is heavily encouraged for those wishing to participate in this tournament. If you've never used it before, don't worry, the mibbit links provided in this thread make accessing IRC incredibly easy. You can also check out this guide to IRC to be more comfortable with the system. IRC activity is important not only for sign-ups but also for spectating the auction and working with your team during the tournament itself. It is absolutely vital for UPL to be an enjoyable experience for you and your team.

Once the period of Sign-ups has been completed, there will be an auction in #UPL on a soon to be announced date. Each of the 6 teams will have 60K with which to buy players for 2 slots in XY, 2 in BW2, 2 in DPP, and 2 required subs for a total of 8 players minimum. Bids will start at 3K and the live auction will proceed in typical SPL fashion. (Don't worry if you don't understand what that is, they are details that only the managers really need to know and they already do) The required slots are subject to change depending on the turnout for sign-ups.
Before the auction and after sign-ups, managers may choose to buy themselves for the set price of 15K.

The actual tournament will start, likely, on the week after the live auction. There will be a 5 week long playoffs between the 6 teams and then a final, 6th week between the top two teams to decide the winner of the tournament.
At any point up until the last week of playoffs, teams may organize player trades amongst eachother. (that may also involve money) Any teams interested in conducting a trade will need to PM one of the hosts the trading conditions the two teams agreed upon so that it can be made official.
In addition to trades, there will be a mid-season auction after Week 2. This auction, contrary to the first, will not be live and will be conducted in a specific thread on the forums. This auction will be a week long. There will be also be a new sign-ups thread to accompany it, anybody interested in being bought in the mid-season auction will need to post in this new sign-up thread even if they posted in the first one.
Players may be sold back during this midseason auction for special sellback credits. Sellback credits are special in that they will not be able to be used in the mid-season auction until after a certain period of time (thus valuing credits saved from the first auction and trades). Teams will receive a set value of 3K for players sold back in this way. Any player may be soldback, regardless of activity.

UPL is going to be unique in that a portion of it will be held in the tournament subforums while the rest can be found in the Ubers subforums and plenty of links going back and forth between the two. Basically, all of the essential tournament information such as sign-ups and match-ups will be found in the tournament subforums. Information that isn't absolutely required to participate will be found in the Ubers subforums, such as statistics, auction results, general discussion, the midseason auction, etc.
There might be postbit rewards for the members of the winning teams. Details to be announced at a later date.
