Don't know why people assume that Kyo and Grou will get a mega. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but there isn't the slightiest hint for that, right now. And besides, do you really want that? They're already ungodly powerful, especially Kyogre. I still can't fully accept that Mewtwo got even TWO megas.

Because the boxart picture doesn't look like regular Kyo and Grou.

Besides, if anyone remembers the Trademark List earlier on, when most other Pokemon on the list received Mega's...

Wait maybe we can now get Latios and Latias mega evolutions. Also gen 3 Pokemon might recieve mega upgrades, I have my hopes up for Mega Sceptile and Mega Breloom.

It would be very unusual for GF to stylize the hell out of the mascot legendaries (instead of just the background art) to the point that they show visible differences from their usual artwork. Also, I'm pretty sure Kyogre's markings around its mouth aren't depicted as blue anywhere else.

As for the overall design barely being changed, well, I would imagine keeping them recognizable to past players would be one possible explanation.

Edit: I would like to add that if you compare with their regular artwork, in addition to markings, both are sporting physical differences to their tails at the very least.

Mind blown. Ran the time battery out on my old Ruby cartridge. I had loads of fun playing the game, back when I hardly understood natures, EVs, and IVs. Now it's time to return and make things right.

Like someone else pointed out, the trend started with R/S/E/FR/LG in Hoenn/Kanto to D/P/PT in Sinnoh to B/W/B2/W2 in Unova and then X/Y in Kalos. Coming back to Hoenn brings everything full circle. And for those Pokemon that were transferred from Gen III to Gen VI, they're coming home!

With the Torchic distribution I think it's pretty safe to say we'll get mega's for the other starters. I'm really hoping for Grass/Dragon Mega Sceptile! And yeah mega Groudon/Kyogre seem likely to me. I'm thinking that the red/blue orbs that you use to awaken them turn out to be their mega stones.

Diving in BW was pretty cool so I can't wait to do it in this! Actually just picturing what everything looks like remade in 3D is getting me pumped. The rope bridges in Fortree, the entrance to Sootopolis, the Space Station, the ash falling in Route 13, the abandoned ship sititng on the side of the ocean (and actually being large compared to you lol), Meteor Falls, Pacifidlog Town! There's so much potential for beautiful scenery.

As a pretty keen Maison player I really hope they bring back the whole Battle Frontier!

Also wishing for walking pokemon behind you. I mean, Korrina can do it with her Lucario (and it looks badass), and we got it in HGSS so I dunno that's the only crumb of evidence that we might get it

EDIT: aaahhh can't believe I forgot about contests! I seriously loved them as a kid. If they do come back I'll be transferring my Banette over to get even more ribbons with it's ultimate contest moveset (seriously if you haven't tried curse, spite, faint attack, destiny bond Banette go and do it)

There was some discussion about this on irc and my 'indisputable photo evidence' above aside, there are a few reasons:

• Kyogre and Groudon's markings, particularly on their hands / fins greatly resemble Alpha / Omega
• Team Aqua and Magma's logos can fairly easily be morphed into something resembling Alpha / Omega

On a more serious note, Hoenn was the least favorite region for me actually, always felt the Battle Frontier was the only thing they did right along with the ubers as the bulk of the Pokemon stunk in terms of playability. But it'll still be fun to revisit, and they can hopefully do justice to secret bases this time with wifi available over local wireless that made it hard to use at best before.

Also this is gonna mess with vgc yet again in transitioning...and Drizzle Mega Swampert please.

I'm actually looking forward to surfing the seas this time 'round. I hope we can have a WindWaker-esque system where faraway islands are visible long before you get to them. The Elite Four castle perched on a cliff in the East. Mt. Chimney illuminating the sky at night. Lilycove's lighthouse. Grave lights burning at Mt. Pyre. Space launches (hopefully) from Mossdeep. The Abandoned Ship, as mentioned earlier.

Speaking of visuals, I hope they can do the rainforest leading up to the Weather Institute/Fortree City justice in these games. I actually didn't realize it was a rainforest before somebody pointed it out to me years after I got the game.

And bring on that overworld Sun, will ya? The seas around Dewford would be nice locations for sunny weather, for instance.

I predict that Kyogre and Groudon will take the backseat. Instead, Team Aqua will be after Mega Wailord, and Team Magma will be searching for the legendary Mega Arcanine.

Mega Camerupt and Mega Sharpedo will be more likely since they are team Aqua and Magma's signature Pokemon. SUPAH SAYAN SHARK I AM IN FOR IT!!
