Doubles Rotom-H

Overview
########

Rotom-H's unique Electric / Fire typing and ability, Levitate, allow it to reliably check several major threats in Doubles such as Mega Charizard Y, Genesect, and Shaymin-S as well as BoltBeam coverage sweepers such as Thundurus and Mega Manectric. In addition, Rotom-H has a great support movepool, decent mixed bulk, decent Special Attack, and good STAB coverage, making it a reliable offensive supporter. However, its only Fire-type STAB move, Overheat, comes with a nasty Special Attack drop, making it difficult to use. In addition, Rotom-H is often overshadowed by Rotom-W which boasts the same stats and movepool, but has a much more reliable STAB attack in Hydro Pump and only one weakness to Grass as opposed to Rotom-H's common weaknesses to Rock and Water.

Offensive Support

name: Offensive Support
move 1: Overheat
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Will-O-Wisp / Thunder Wave
move 4: Protect
item: Sitrus Berry / Safety Goggles
evs: 200 HP / 88 SpA / 220 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves
========

Overheat is a powerful STAB move that allows Rotom-H to hit Shaymin-S and Genesect super effectively while doing good damage to neutral threats at the cost of -2 Special Attack. Thunderbolt lets it hit Mega Charizard Y and other Flying-types and is a more reliable STAB attack due to its lack of a Special Attack drop. The next moveslot depends on what the team needs; Will-O-Wisp lets Rotom-H cripple almost every physical attacker, and Thunder Wave provides easy speed control with the chance of free turns. Lastly, Protect keeps it alive by allowing it to stall out field conditions, scout for attacks, and ruin offensive strategies.

Set Details
========

The EV spread allows Rotom-H to outspeed Jolly Breloom and Bisharp while surviving a Stone Edge from an Adamant Landorus-T. A Modest nature and 88 Special Attack EVs grant it some decent firepower. However, the 88 Special Attack EVs can be moved into Special Defense and the nature can be changed to Calm in order to survive a Hydro Pump from a positive-natured 132 SpA Rotom-W, but there are more benefits for focusing on offenses, like the ability to always break Heatran's Substitute with Thunderbolt. Sitrus Berry adds much-needed longevity to Rotom-H, allowing it to support its team longer, but Safety Goggles can be used, making Rotom-H a perfect switchin to every sleep-inducing threat in the Doubles metagame.

Usage Tips
========

Rotom-H typically uses its typing, ability, and bulk to switch into threats that cannot hurt it, such as Doubles' many Flying-type Pokemon. Once switched in, it can proceed to cripple threats with status depending on which of the opposing Pokemon threatens its team the most. It can offer chip damage support with its STAB attacks, but Rotom-H's damage output is somewhat lacking, so it cannot be relied on for KOs unless it can hit super effectively; even then, despite being super effective, Thunderbolt will generally not KO bulky Water-types such as Milotic and Suicune, and they can react with powerful Water-type attacks. It is also important to note that although Rotom-H resists Mega Charizard Y's coverage, the combination of Heat Wave and Overheat will KO it in the sun. Lastly, keep in mind that Rotom-H can get worn down quickly, even with a Sitrus Berry, so try to limit the amounts of damage it takes.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that like Shaymin-S, Talonflame, or Mega Charizard Y swiftly taken out include Amoonguss, Breloom, Suicune, Mega Pinsir, and Mega Heracross, making them good partners. Almost every Pokemon in Doubles appreciates Rotom-H's Will-O-Wisp support, and in conjunction with Intimidate partners such as Landorus-T and Gyarados, physical attackers are hard-stopped. Pokemon that appreciate Thunder Wave support such as Genesect, Hydreigon, Mega Heracross, and Mega Kangaskhan make great teammates as well. Fighting-types such as Terrakion, Conkeldurr, and Scrafty take out the Rock-types that scare Rotom-H, and Pokemon such as Breloom, Mega Charizard Y, Amoonguss, Mega Venusaur, and Thundurus take out the Water-types that threaten it. In addition, Fairy-types such as Sylveon and Mega Gardevoir appreciate Rotom-H's ability to handle Steel-type Pokemon. Mamoswine, Mega Mawile, and Azumarill can handle the Dragon-types that wall Rotom-H's coverage moves. Lastly, Rotom-H enjoys Wide Guard support from Pokemon such as Hitmontop and Aegislash to protect it from Rock Slide, Muddy Water, and Mold Breaker Earthquake.

Other Options
########

Electroweb can be used in conjunction with Will-O-Wisp so there are no conflicting status conditions; however, Thunder Wave is a much more reliable and permanent choice in a typical battle. Rotom-H can use a Choice Specs or Choice Scarf set to KO or outspeed a certain threat, but Overheat's Special Attack drop limits any Choice set's viability. Volt Switch is a good option for momentum gain, and Hidden Power Ice can be used to hit annoying Dragon-types. Other options include ChestoRest and Pain Split, which grant decent recovery. Charti Berry lets Rotom-H take a Stone Edge or Rock Slide from Pokemon including Tyranitar, Terrakion, and Landorus-T, even with passive damage, and respond with a Will-O-Wisp. Lastly, Rotom-H has the ability to set up dual screens to support its team.

Checks & Counters
########

**Offensive Typing Advantage**: Pokemon such as Terrakion and Choice Scarf Tyranitar can outspeed Rotom-H and KO with STAB Stone Edge, only having to worry about avoiding a status attack on the switch-in. Landorus-T commonly carries Stone Edge as well, but it needs some prior damage on Rotom-H to KO it. Water-types such as Rotom-W and Gastrodon can take any of its moves and respond with their super effective STAB attacks. Dragon-types such as Latios, Goodra, and Hydreigon also wall its coverage and can respond with a Draco Meteor, only having to worry about Thunder Wave. A quick method to dispose of Rotom-H is Mold Breaker Earthquake, which is commonly used by Choice Scarf Excadrill and Mega Gyarados; however they both have to avoid several of Rotom-H's attacks when they enter battle. Some powerful tanks, such as Mega Kangaskhan, Tyranitar, and Mega Heracross can potentially overpower Rotom-H even if burned.

**Opposing Weather**: Rain teams consisting of threats such as Politoed, Kingdra, Ludicolo, and Manaphy completely power through Rotom-H with their rain-boosted, super effective, Water-type STAB attacks. Rain also weakens Rotom-H's Overheat, preventing it from KOing many of the Grass-types that it is supposed to take out. Sandstorm teams also wear it down quickly and have many Rock-types to threaten it with their STAB attacks, though Safety Goggles helps by preventing Sandstorm damage.

**Utility Pokemon**: Taunt users such as Thundurus and Mew and Safeguard users such as Cresselia and Klefki can prevent Rotom-H from spreading status around the opposing team, making it much easier to deal with. Assault Vest Pokemon, such as Guts Conkeldurr (which doesn't have to worry about status), Ludicolo, and Snarl Raikou can easily shrug off its attacks and wear it down. Lastly, faster Substitute users that don't mind Thunderbolt, such as Landorus-T and Kyurem-B, can easily steal momentum from Rotom-H.

Overview
########
  • Unique typing (resists BoltBeam!) and Levitate allow it to cockblock common threats in Doubles such as Mega Charizard Y, Genesect, and SHAYMIN-SKY.
  • Great supportive movepool, decent mixed bulk, decent Special Attack, and good STAB coverage.
  • Overheat is its only Fire-type STAB and isn't spammable.
  • Often overshadowed by Rotom-W whose Grass-type weakness isn't as common as Rotom-H's Water- and Rock-type weaknesses (which leave it vulnerable to many more doubles threats) and has a much more reliable STAB in Hydro Pump.
Offensive Support
########
name: Offensive Support
move 1: Overheat
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Will-O-Wisp / Thunder Wave
move 4: Protect
item: Sitrus Berry
nature: Modest
evs: 200 HP / 88 SpA / 220 Spe

Moves
========
  • Overheat allows Rotom-H to counter Shaymin-S and does a good chunk of damage to neutral threats at the cost of -2.
  • Thunderbolt lets it donk Mega Charizard-Y (never KO's tho :c) and is a more reliable STAB option to spam.
  • Third slot depends on the team.
  • Will-O-Wisp lets it cripple physical attackers.
  • Thunder Wave slows down threats so Rotom-H's team can pick them off easier.
  • Protect keeps Rotom-H alive.
Set Details
========
  • 200 HP EVs allow Rotom-H to survive Adamant Landorus-T's Stone Edge.
  • 220 Speed Evs allow it to outspeed Jolly Breloom and Bisharp.
  • Sitrus Berry adds much needed longevity.
  • The 88 Special Attack EVs and a Modest Nature give it some oomph, but they could be moved to Special Defense and switched to a Calm nature to survive 132+ Washtom's Hydro Pump. However, the loss in attack power is noticable; Thunderbolt might not even break Heatran's sub :(
Usage Tips
========
  • Basically just use its typing to switch into stuff that cant touch it like Skymin, Zard Y (although Modest Heat Wave + Overheat KOs so watch out!), Genesect, Heatran etc and start supporting the team with WoW or T Wave.
  • Dont waste Overheat; Tbolt is more reliable for spamming.
  • While sitrus and its bulk are nice, it can get worn down quickly so be careful
Team Options
========
  • Stuff that likes Skymin/Talonflame/Mega Charizard Y dead: Amoonguss and Breloom(supports with Spore as well), Suicune, Mega Pinsir, Mega Heracross, EVERYTHING.
  • Pokemon that enjoy T Wave support include Genesect, Hydreigon, Mega Heracross, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Kangaskhan, EVERYTHING.
  • Pokemon that like Will-O-Wisp support: ALL OF THEM.
  • Fighting types like Terrakion, Hitmontop, Conkeldurr, and Scrafty take out the Rock-types that scare Heattom.
  • Breloom, Mega Charizard Y, Amoonguss, Mega Venusaur, Thundurus, etc. take out the Water types that it hates.
  • Fairy-type partners (Sylveon, Mega Gardevoir, Mega Mawile) also like Steel-types taken out.
  • Mamoswine, Mega Mawile, Azumarill etc can take out the Dragons that wall its coverage.
  • Wide Guard (Hitmontop or Aegislash) stops Rock Slide, Muddy Water, and Mold Breaker Earthquake.
  • With Intimidate support Physical attackers are gonna feel dead inside.
Other Options
########
  • Electroweb can be used in conjunction with Will-O-Wisp (either replacing Thunderbolt or Protect probably) so there is no conflicting status conditions, but Tbolt and Protect have much more utility.
  • Choice Specs or Scarf sets can surprise threats.
  • ChestoRest grants recovery and the ability to switch safely into Breloom/Amoonguss.
  • Volt Switch can be used for momentum gain.
  • HP Ice hits Dragons that are annoying.
  • Safety Goggles make it a great Amoonguss/Breloom switchin.
  • Pain Split for recovery.
  • Charti Berry so it can take hits from Landorus-T (even with some passive damage), Tyranitar, and Terrakion, and burn them.
  • Dual Screens
Checks & Counters
########
  • Terrakion and Scarf Tyranitar outspeed and KO with Stone Edge only having to worry about Thunder Wave. Landorus-T can also OHKO with Stone Edge with slight passive damage.
  • Dragon-types such as Latios and Hydreigon wall its coverage and only have to worry about Thunder Wave.
  • Rotom-W can take anything thrown and it and retailiate with its own STAB Hydro Pump. Other Water types (gyarados, keldeo, etc.) force it out with their STABs but don't want to switch into a Thunderbolt or TWave)
  • Faster Substitute users (Landorus-T, Kyurem-B, etc.) that dont mind Thunderbolt can stall out Overheat and steal momentum.
  • Gastrodon
  • Rain teams (Politoed, Ludicolo, Kingdra, Manaphy etc.) make its life hard.
  • Taunt/Safeguard stops Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave.
  • Stuff like Mega Kanga, Tyranitar, and Mega Heracross can overpower it even if burned.
  • Heatran can shrug off Thunderbolt, benefits from Overheat and WoW, and only has to worry about Thunder Wave.
  • Assault Vest Pokes like Guts Conk (cause lolz at status), Ludicolo, and Goodra can troll it. Snarl Raikou is also annoying.
  • Excadrill and Mega Gyarados wreck it with Mold Breaker Earthquake, but must switch in safely.

Overview
- I know you will but just to make sure, be specific when you write this up
- Stress the Rock / Water weakness a little bit more, even besides Rotom-W comparison, because those weaknesses makes it lose against a lot of common threats, like Landorus-T, Keldeo, Terrakion, etc (all of which Washtom can handle easily)

Moves
- I'd slash TBolt before Overheat tbh, TBolt is a lot more useful as a STAB attack
- Important to note that TBolt never even comes close to OHKOing Char Y
- I would even mention Electroweb here, because it's a great move (arguably better than TWave, but I'll let other QC members decide for that)

Usage Tips
- Good

Team Options
- Intimidate + its WoW cripples physical attackers so fast
- Wide Guard for Rock Slide and MB EQ

OO
- Screens

Checks and Counters
- AV Pokemon- Guts Conk, AV Ludicolo, Snarl Raikou (dgaf TWave too) Goodra
- Mold Breaker EQ- Excadrill can come on on any Electric-type move / Protect, MGyara just needs to avoid Tbolt + status

Nice work Lolk

Thanks Electrolyte!

I want to keep Overheat first because it focuses more on Rotom-H's niche over Rotom-W in beating threats such as Shaymin-Sky, Amoonguss, Genesect, and Scizor and I would get rid of Thunderbolt before it any day.

The QC team also decided earlier Electroweb is far worse than Thunder Wave because it doesn't last and it doesnt hax enough.

Very comprehensive, great job

Team options
-Stuff that likes Skymin/Talonflame/Mega Charizard Y dead: Amoonguss and Breloom(supports with Spore as well), Suicune, Mega Pinsir, Mega Heracross, EVERYTHING.
^if you're mentioning this, may as well list Pokemon that enjoy Steel-types like Aegislash, Mawile, Bisharp etc dead. For example, Syvleon, Mega Gardevoir, Togekiess
AC
-Wide Guard also stops Muddy Water and Surf

OO
-ChestoRest. Also helps it check Breloom and Amoonguss, which is why it deserves a mention

Checks and counters
-Gastrodon. Whilst uncommon, it hard walls Rotom-H and hits back with super-effective STAB
-when mentinoing Guts Conkeldurr, also add that it benefits from WoW and TWave
-add Ttar to list of Pokemon that overpowers Rotom-H even when burnt. I'd remove Mega Kang from this list, because in practice people use Rotom-H (and -W) to check Kang due to WoW or TWave, even letting it tank a Return in order to burn. Whilst the Rotom forms lose 1v1, it makes it much easier for teammates to handle Kan and this, in practice, works

Also fun fact
252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Heat Wave vs. 200 HP / 4 SpD Rotom-H in Sun: 105-123 (36 - 42.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Overheat vs. 200 HP / 4 SpD Rotom-H in Sun: 191-225 (65.6 - 77.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

1v1, Modest Zard Y with Overheat always 2HKOes Rotom-H barring a miss or crit Tbolt as it can avoid triggering Sitrus. Has happened to me in VGC before

**Utility Pokemon**: Taunt users such as Thundurus and Mew and Safeguard users such as Cresselia and Klefki can prevent Rotom-H from spreading status around the opposing team, making it much easier to take out. Assault Vest Pokemon can easily shrug off its attacks and take it out, such as Guts Conkeldurr (which doesn't have to worry about status), Ludicolo, and Snarl Raikou can easily shrug off its attacks and take it out. Lastly, faster Substitute users that don't mind Thunderbolt, such as Landorus-T and Kyurem-B, can easily steal momentum from Rotom-H.

Comments:

A few changes due to grammar no one but an english professor would mind, oh well. Grass and any of specifically.

Especially the calm sentence, you switch from the evs being moved to Rotom-W changing its nature, which was kinda weird.

Fused the item sentences since why not.no need for lastly

I felt almost any pokemon made the most sense and you needed something like it there.

Again more like just typing advantage. Also unless you mean specifically 6% or something, that damage could come from anywhere.

Goggles totally prevents ss damage

Overview
########
Rotom-H's unique Electric / Fire typing and ability, Levitate,(AC) allow it to reliably check several major threats in Doubles such as Mega Charizard Y, Genesect, and Shaymin-S,(RC) as well as sweepers with BoltBeam coverage sweepers such as Thundurus and Mega Manectric. In addition, Rotom-H has a great supporting movepool, decent mixed bulk, decent Special Attack, and good STAB coverage, making it a reliable offensive supporter. However, its only Fire-type STAB move, Overheat, comes with a nasty Special Attack drop, making it difficult to use. In addition, Rotom-H is often overshadowed by Rotom-W, which boasts the same stats and movepool,(RC) but has a much more reliable STAB attack in Hydro Pump and only one weakness to Grass,(RC) as opposed to Rotom-H's common weaknesses to Rock and Water.

Offensive Support

name: Offensive Support
move 1: Overheat
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Will-O-Wisp / Thunder Wave
move 4: Protect
item: Sitrus Berry / Safety Goggles
evs: 200 HP / 88 SpA / 220 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves
========
Overheat is a powerful STAB move that allows Rotom-H to hit Shaymin-S and Genesect super effectively while doing good damage to neutral threats at the cost of -2 Special Attack. Thunderbolt lets it hit Mega Charizard Y and other Flying-types and is a more reliable STAB attack due to its lack of a no Special Attack drop. The next moveslot depends on what the team needs; Will-O-Wisp lets Rotom-H cripple almost every physical attacker in Doubles, and Thunder Wave provides easy speed control with the chance of free turns. Lastly, Protect keeps it alive by allowing it to stall out field conditions, scout for attacks, and ruin offensive strategies.

Set Details
========
The EV spread allows Rotom-H to outspeed Jolly Breloom and Bisharp while surviving a Stone Edge from an Adamant Landorus-T. A Modest nature and 88 Special Attack EVs grant it some decent firepower. However, the 88 Special Attack EVs can be moved into Special Defense and the nature can be changed to Calm in order to survive a 132+ Hydro Pump from positive-natured 132 SpA Rotom-W, but there are more benefits for focusing on offenses, like the ability to always break Heatran's Substitute (<- don't miss that) with Thunderbolt. Sitrus Berry adds much-needed longevity to Rotom-H, allowing it to support its team longer, but Safety Goggles can be used, making Rotom-H a perfect switch-(-Hyph, no Space)in to every sleep-inducing threat in the Doubles metagame.

Usage Tips
========
It is also important to note that,(RC) although Rotom-H resists Mega Charizard Y's coverage, the combination of Heat Wave and Overheat will KO it in the sun. Lastly, keep in mind that Rotom-H can get worn down quickly, even with a Sitrus Berry, so try to limit the amounts of damage it takes.

Team Options
========
Pokemon that like any of Shaymin-S, Talonflame, and Mega Charizard Y swiftly taken out include Amoonguss, Breloom, Suicune, Mega Pinsir, and Mega Heracross, making them good partners.

########
Electroweb can be used in conjunction with Will-O-Wisp so there are no conflicting status conditions, allowing Rotom-H to provide both speed and attack control at once; putting Rotom-H in a larger supporting position; however, Thunder Wave is a much more reliable and permanent choice in a typical battle. Rotom-H can use a Choice Specs or Choice Scarf set to KO or outspeed a certain threat, but Overheat's Special Attack drop limits any Choice sets's viability. Volt Switch is a good option for momentum gain, and Hidden Power Ice can be used to hit annoying Dragon-types. Other options include ChestoRest, which grants reliable recovery or allows it to reliably switch into Amoonguss and Breloom, and Pain Split, a decent form of recovery.

########

**Offensive Typing Advantage**: Pokemon such as Terrakion and Choice Scarf Tyranitar can outspeed Rotom-H and KO it with STAB Stone Edge, only having to worry about avoiding a status attack on the switch-in.

**Opposing Weather**: Rain teams consisting of threats such as Politoed, Kingdra, Ludicolo, and Manaphy that threaten it with their rain-boostedpowered, super effective, Water-type STAB attacks completely power through Rotom-H.

**Utility Pokemon**: Taunt users such as Thundurus and Mew and Safeguard users such as Cresselia and Klefki can prevent Rotom-H from spreading status around the opposing team, making it much easier to take out deal with. Lastly, faster Substitute users that don't mind Thunderbolt, such as Landorus-T and Kyurem-B, can easily steal momentum from Rotom-H.
